The purpose of this study was to describe the processes of reproduction and incubation of the eggs during the first sexual maturation of B. orbignyanus, at EPDA - Volta Grande. Males and females that was born in December 1992 were induced to spawn through hypophysation, with identical treatments. Ovulation of 96% was obtained 4-5 hours after the last dose. A total of 99,000 post-larvae, which were fed with 700,000 post-larvae of "tambaqui" (Colossoma macropomum), were produced during the incubation process.O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever os processos de reprodução e de incubação de ovos na primeira maturação sexual de Brycon orbignyanus, na Estação de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Ambiental de Volta Grande (EPDA), MG. Utilizaram-se 52 reprodutores nascidos na EPDA - Volta Grande em dezembro de 1992. Exemplares de ambos os sexos foram induzidos à reprodução por extrato bruto de hipófise, usando-se para todos o mesmo tratamento. Obtiveram-se 96% de ovulação, quatro a cinco horas após a última dose de hormônio. Produziram-se 99.000 pós-larvas, oferecendo como alimento, durante a incubação, 700 mil pós-larvas de tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum).
