BACKGROUND: Previous observational epidemiological studies have suggested that coffee consumption during pregnancy may affect fetal neurodevelopment. However, results are inconsistent and may represent correlational rather than causal relationships. The present study investigated whether maternal coffee consumption was observationally associated and causally related to offspring childhood neurodevelopmental difficulties (NDs) in the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study. METHODS: The observational relationships between maternal/paternal coffee consumption (before and during pregnancy) and offspring NDs were assessed using linear regression analyses (N = 58694 mother-child duos; N = 22 576 father-child duos). To investigate potential causal relationships, individual-level (N = 46 245 mother-child duos) and two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted using genetic variants previously associated with coffee consumption as instrumental variables. RESULTS: We observed positive associations between maternal coffee consumption and offspring difficulties with social-communication/behavioral flexibility, and inattention/hyperactive-impulsive behavior (multiple testing corrected p < 0.005). Paternal coffee consumption (negative control) was not observationally associated with the outcomes. After adjusting for potential confounders (smoking, alcohol, education and income), the maternal associations attenuated to the null. MR analyses suggested that increased maternal coffee consumption was causally associated with social-communication difficulties (individual-level: beta = 0.128, se = 0.043, p = 0.003; two-sample: beta = 0.348, se = 0.141, p = 0.010). However, individual-level MR analyses that modelled potential pleiotropic pathways found the effect diminished (beta = 0.088, se = 0.049, p = 0.071). Individual-level MR analyses yielded similar estimates (heterogeneity p = 0.619) for the causal effect of coffee consumption on social communication difficulties in maternal coffee consumers (beta = 0.153, se = 0.071, p = 0.032) and non-consumers (beta = 0.107, se = 0.134, p = 0.424). CONCLUSIONS: Together, our results provide little evidence for a causal effect of maternal coffee consumption on offspring NDs.

BACKGROUND/AIM: SARS-CoV-2 infection presents different severity levels that suggest the influence of genetic factors on the clinical outcome of the disease. In cases of severe COVID-19, the presence of elevated coagulation markers, increased platelet activation and aggregation and the risk of thrombotic complications are described. Given the participation of these cells in several serious viral infections and their negative role when associated with a prothrombotic response, it is important to understand the mechanistic role of SARS-CoV-2 in platelet physiology. This study evaluated the hyperexpression of platelet-activating factor receptor (PTAFR) and platelet factor 4 (PF4) in unvaccinated and hospitalized patients with COVID-19. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included 43 COVID-19 patients stratified according to WHO guidelines. Subsequently, the expression of the PTAFR and PF4 genes were evaluated using the real-time quantitative PCR and their possible correlation with the severity of the disease and clinical variables including hospitalization, outcome, sex, age and laboratory parameters (platelet count, INR and D-dimer). RESULTS: The analysis demonstrated a significant (p<0.05) hyperexpression of these genes COVID-19 patients (n=43) compared to healthy controls. Expression of these genes in patients was not statistically significant (p>0.05) different between patients stratified according to clinical variables. CONCLUSION: The expression of PTAFR and PF4 suggests an important molecular pathway in the pathophysiology of the disease and may be valuable platelet biomarkers to indicate increased risk in patients with COVID-19 who require hospital care, contributing to personalized intervention strategies and improving their clinical management.

Background/Objectives: During pregnancy, physiological changes in maternal circulating glucose levels and its metabolism are essential to meet maternal and fetal energy demands. Major changes in glucose metabolism occur throughout pregnancy and consist of higher insulin resistance and a compensatory increase in insulin secretion to maintain glucose homeostasis. For some women, this change is insufficient to maintain normoglycemia, leading to gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a condition characterized by maternal glucose intolerance and hyperglycaemia first diagnosed during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. GDM is diagnosed in approximately 14.0% of pregnancies globally, and it is often associated with short- and long-term adverse health outcomes in both mothers and offspring. Although recent studies have highlighted the role of genetic determinants in the development of GDM, research in this area is still lacking, hindering the development of prevention and treatment strategies. Methods: In this paper, we review recent advances in the understanding of genetic determinants of GDM and glycaemic traits during pregnancy. Results/Conclusions: Our review highlights the need for further collaborative efforts as well as larger and more diverse genotyped pregnancy cohorts to deepen our understanding of the genetic aetiology of GDM, address research gaps, and further improve diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Background/Aim: Although the reciprocal translocation t(9;22)(q34;q11) is a hallmark of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), it is also present in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Depending on the gene's breakpoint, it is possible to obtain three isoforms, among which p190 stands out for the poor prognosis it induces whenever it appears. Due to the genomic instability induced by BCR::ABL1, it is proposed to expand the applicability of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase-1 (PARP1) and its inhibitors in hematological neoplasms. Materials and Methods: We measured the expression levels of PARP1 by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) using TaqMan®, correlating its expression with BCR::ABL1 p190+, to evaluate its influence in the clinic of adult patients. Results: We found that PARP1 is expressed differently in ALL, AML and CML and that p190 transcripts do not follow a linear pattern in these populations. We also found that PARP1 expression is not correlated with age, white blood cell and the amount of p190 transcripts. Conclusion: Despite the lack of statistical correlation between the variables analyzed, the role of PARP1 in BCR::ABL1 leukemia cannot be ruled out, given the instability profile promoted by this translocation. Finally, further studies involving a larger sample of patients are needed, as well as investigations into other molecular pathways that may impact on the pathogenesis of different BCR::ABL1 leukemic subtypes.

BACKGROUND: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) represents a frequent manifestation of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Apolipoprotein E (APOE) is a protein that interacts with the angiotensin-converting enzyme receptor, essential for viral entry into the cell. Previous publications have suggested a possible role of APOE in COVID-19 severity. As far as we know, no publications found significant associations between this disease's severity, OD, and APOE polymorphisms (E2, E3, and E4). OBJECTIVE: To analyze the epidemiology of OD and its relationship with APOE polymorphisms in a cohort of Long-COVID patients. METHODS: We conducted a prospective cohort study with patients followed in a post-COVID neurological outpatient clinic, with OD being defined as a subjective reduction of olfactory function after infection, and persistent OD being defined when the complaint lasted more than 3 months after the COVID-19 infection resolution. This cross-sectional study is part of a large research with previously reported data focusing on the cognitive performance of our sample. RESULTS: The final sample comprised 221 patients, among whom 186 collected blood samples for APOE genotyping. The persistent OD group was younger and had a lower hospitalization rate during the acute phase of the disease (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the APOE variant E4 allele frequency was lower in this group (p = 0.035). This study evaluated OD in an outpatient population with COVID-19. In the current literature on this disease, anosmia is associated with better clinical outcomes and the E4 allele is associated with worse outcomes. CONCLUSION: Our study provides new information to these correlations, suggesting APOE E4 as a protective factor for OD.
ANTECEDENTES: A disfunção olfatória (DO) é uma manifestação frequente da doença do coronavírus 2019 (COVID-19). A apolipoproteína E (APOE) é uma proteína que interage com o receptor da enzima conversora de angiotensina, essencial para a entrada viral na célula. Publicações anteriores sugeriram um possível papel da APOE na gravidade da COVID-19. Até onde sabemos, nenhuma publicação encontrou associações significativas entre a gravidade dessa doença, DO e polimorfismos da APOE (E2, E3 e E4). OBJETIVO: Analisar a epidemiologia da DO e sua relação com os polimorfismos do gene APOE em uma coorte de pacientes com COVID longa. MéTODOS: Um estudo de coorte prospectiva com pacientes acompanhados em ambulatório neurológico pós-COVID, com DO sendo definida como uma redução subjetiva da função olfativa após a infecção e a DO persistente sendo definida quando a queixa durou mais de 3 meses após a resolução da infecção por COVID-19. Este estudo transversal é parte de uma pesquisa maior com dados anteriormente relatados, focando na performance cognitiva dos pacientes. RESULTADOS: Foram selecionados 221 pacientes para esse estudo, dos quais 186 haviam coletado amostras de sangue para genotipagem APOE. O grupo DO persistente foi mais jovem e apresentou menor taxa de internação na fase aguda da doença (p < 0,001). Além disso, a frequência do alelo E4 da APOE foi menor nesse grupo (p = 0,035). Este estudo avaliou a DO em uma população com COVID longa. Na literatura atual sobre essa doença, a anosmia está associada a melhores desfechos clínicos e o alelo E4 está associado a piores desfechos. CONCLUSãO: Nosso estudo acrescenta novas informações a essas correlações, sugerindo a APOE E4 como um fator de proteção para DO.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm marked by abnormal clonal expansion of hematopoietic progenitor cells, displaying karyotypic aberrations and genetic mutations as prognostic indicators. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European LeukemiaNet guidelines categorize BCR::ABL1 p190+ AML as high risk. This study explored the identification of the increased incidence of BCR::ABL1 p190+ in our AML population. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study included 96 AML patients stratified according to WHO guidelines. Subsequently, patients were screened for genetic abnormalities, such as BCR::ABL1 p 190+, PML::RARA, RUNX1::RUNX1T1, and CBFB::MYH11 by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis. RESULTS: Among 96 AML patients, 36 displayed BCR::ABL1 p190+, overcoming the expected global incidence. Age variations (19 to 78 years) showed no significant laboratory differences between BCR::ABL1 p190+ and non-BCR::ABL p190+ cases. The overall survival analysis revealed no statistically significant differences among the patients (p=0.786). CONCLUSION: The analyzed population presented a higher frequency of BCR::ABL1 p190+ detection in adult AML patients when compared to what is described in the worldwide literature. Therefore, more studies are needed to establish the reason why this incidence is higher and what the best treatment approach should be in these cases.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The relevance of cytogenetic markers as prognostic risk factors has been demonstrated in a vast number of studies, with many prognostication tools utilizing these factors to determine treatment approaches. Patients aged above 60 years represent an important subgroup of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients, especially because they usually exhibit a poorer cytogenetic landscape and are less suitable for intensive treatments. The importance of evaluating prognostic parameters in AML, especially in low-income countries, prompted an investigation into CD38 expression and its effects. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Medical records of AML patients aged above 60 years from three hospitals in Brazil's northwest region were analyzed. A total of 67 patients were evaluated in terms of overall survival and factors predicting worse outcomes. The risk stratification was performed based on the European LeukemiaNet 2022 guidelines. The analysis of immunophenotyping markers was conducted using multi-parametric flow cytometry. RESULTS: The overall survival of CD38-positive AML patients was higher than that of patients with CD38-negative AML, with survival rates of 15.6 months versus 4 months, respectively (p-value=0.026). The impact of CD38 positivity was relevant also in multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression, demonstrating a positive effect on overall survival, with a hazard ratio of 0.33 (95%CI=0.13-0.79; p-value=0.014). CONCLUSION: Expression of CD38 in patients with AML was associated with better overall survival and serves as a relevant predictor of improved outcome in patients aged above 60 years.

The selection of proper reference genes is critical for accurate gene expression analysis in all fields of biological and medical research, mainly because there are many distinctions between different tissues and specimens. Given this variability, even in known classic reference genes, demands of a comprehensive analysis platform is needed to identify the most suitable genes for each study. For this purpose, we present an analysis tool for assisting in decision-making in the analysis of reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) data. EndoGeneAnalyzer, an open-source web tool for reference gene analysis in RT-qPCR studies, was used to compare the groups/conditions under investigation. This interactive application offers an easy-to-use interface that allows efficient exploration of datasets. Through statistical and stability analyses, EndoGeneAnalyzer assists in the select of the most appropriate reference gene or set of genes for each condition. It also allows researchers to identify and remove unwanted outliers. Moreover, EndoGeneAnalyzer provides a graphical interface to compare the evaluated groups, providing a visually informative differential analysis.

Reference genes are used as internal reaction controls for gene expression analysis, and for this reason, they are considered reliable and must meet several important criteria. In view of the absence of studies regarding the best reference gene for the analysis of acute leukemia patients, a panel of genes commonly used as endogenous controls was selected from the literature for stability analysis: Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), Abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene human homolog 1 (ABL), Hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl-transferase 1 (HPRT1), Ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P0 (RPLP0), ß-actin (ACTB) and TATA box binding protein (TBP). The stability of candidate reference genes was analyzed according to three statistical methods of assessment, namely, NormFinder, GeNorm and R software (version 4.0.3). From this study's analysis, it was possible to identify that the endogenous set composed of ACTB, ABL, TBP and RPLP0 demonstrated good performances and stable expressions between the analyzed groups. In addition to that, the GAPDH and HPRT genes could not be classified as good reference genes, considering that they presented a high standard deviation and great variability between groups, indicating low stability. Given these findings, this study suggests the main endogenous gene set for use as a control/reference for the gene expression in peripheral blood and bone marrow samples from patients with acute leukemias is composed of the ACTB, ABL, TBP and RPLP0 genes. Researchers may choose two to three of these housekeeping genes to perform data normalization.

Leukemias are hematological neoplasms characterized by dysregulations in several cellular signaling pathways, prominently including the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. Since this pathway is associated with several important cellular mechanisms, such as proliferation, metabolism, survival, and cell death, its hyperactivation significantly contributes to the development of leukemias. In addition, it is a crucial prognostic factor, often correlated with therapeutic resistance. Changes in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway are identified in more than 50% of cases of acute leukemia, especially in myeloid lineages. Furthermore, these changes are highly frequent in cases of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, especially those with a B cell phenotype, due to the correlation between the hyperactivation of B cell receptors and the abnormal activation of PI3Kδ. Thus, the search for new therapies that inhibit the activity of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway has become the objective of several clinical studies that aim to replace conventional oncological treatments that have high rates of toxicities and low specificity with target-specific therapies offering improved patient quality of life. In this review we describe the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal transduction pathway and its implications in leukemogenesis. Furthermore, we provide an overview of clinical trials that employed PI3K/AKT/mTOR inhibitors either as monotherapy or in combination with other cytotoxic agents for treating patients with various types of leukemias. The varying degrees of treatment efficacy are also reported.

Cancer is indisputably one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Snake venoms are a potential source of bioactive compounds, complex mixtures constituted mainly of proteins and peptides with several pharmacological possibilities, including the potential to inhibit tumoral cell growth. In the present study, it was evaluated the antitumor effect of crude venom of Bothrops erythromelas (BeV), Bothrops jararaca (from Southern and Southeastern- BjsV and BjsdV, respectively) and Bothrops alternatus (BaV) in in vitro Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cancer cell line model. After 24 h of cell exposure to 10 and 50 µg/mL, BjsV, BjsdV, and BaV exerted a decrease in cell viability in both concentrations. BeV was not cytotoxic and, therefore wasn't chosen for further mechanism of action investigation. Furthermore, morphological alterations show modification typical of apoptosis. Also, was observes a significant cell cycle arrest in the S phase by BjsdV and BaV treatment. Flow cytometry evidenced the involvement of changes in the cell membrane permeability and the mitochondrial function by BjsV and BjsdV, corroborating with the triggering of the apoptotic pathway by the venom administration. BjsV, BjsdV, and BaV also led to extensive DNA damage and were shown to modulate the gene expression of transcripts related to the cell cycle progression and suppress the expression of the BCR-ABL1 oncogene. Altogether, these findings suggest that the venoms trigger the apoptosis pathway due to mitochondrial damage and cell cycle arrest, with modulation of intracellular pathways important for CML progression. Thus, indicating the pharmacological potential of these venoms in the development of new antitumoral compounds.

Liquid biopsy is increasingly vital in monitoring neoadjuvant breast cancer treatment. This study collected plasma samples at three time points from participants in the Neoadjuvant Carboplatin in Triple Negative Breast Cancer (NACATRINE), analyzing miRNA expression with NanoString's nCounter® Human v3 miRNA assay. In the carboplatin arm, four ct-miRNAs exhibited dynamic changes linked to pathologic complete response, with a combined area under the curve of 0.811. Similarly, the non-carboplatin arm featured four ct-miRNAs with an area under the curve of 0.843. These findings underscore the potential of ct-miRNAs as personalized tools in breast cancer treatment, assisting in predicting treatment response and assessing the risk of relapse. Integrating ct-miRNA analysis into clinical practice can optimize decisions and enhance patient outcomes.

This exploratory analysis of the Neoadjuvant Carboplatin in Triple Negative Breast Cancer (NACATRINE) study aimed to identify the biomarkers of pathological complete response (pCR) in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) within the context of a clinical trial. The NACATRINE trial is a phase II, single-center, randomized, open-label clinical trial that investigated the addition of carboplatin to sequential anthracycline- and taxane-based NAC for TNBC. We evaluated the gene expression in untreated samples to investigate its association with pCR, overall survival (OS), and disease-free survival (DFS). RNA was extracted from the tissue biopsy, and the nCounter Breast Cancer panel was used to analyze gene expression. Of the 66 patients included in the gene expression profiling analysis, 24 (36.4%) achieved pCR and 42 (63.6%) had residual disease. In unsupervised hierarchical clustering analyses, differentially expressed genes between patients with and without pCR were identified irrespective of the treatment (24 genes), carboplatin (37 genes), and non-carboplatin (27 genes) arms. In receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, 10 genes in the carboplatin arm (area under the ROC curve [AUC], 0.936) and three genes in the non-carboplatin arm (AUC, 0.939) were considered to be potential pCR-associated biomarkers. We identified genes that were associated with improvements in OS and DFS in addition to being related to pCR. We successfully identified gene expression signatures associated with pCR in pretreatment samples of patients with TNBC treated with NAC. Further investigation of these biomarkers is warranted.

Detection of t(9;22), and consequent BCR::ABL1 fusion, is still a marker of worse prognosis for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with resistance to tyrosine-kinase inhibitor therapy being a major obstacle in the clinical practice for this subset of patients. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of targeting poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) in a model of BCR::ABL1 p190+ ALL, the most common isoform to afflict ALL patients, and demonstrated the use of experimental PARP inhibitor (PARPi), AZD2461, as a therapeutic option with cytotoxic capabilities similar to that of imatinib, the current gold standard in medical care. We characterized cytostatic profiles, induced cell death, and biomarker expression modulation utilizing cell models, also providing a comprehensive genome-wide analysis through an aCGH of the model used, and further validated PARP1 differential expression in samples of ALL p190+ patients from local healthcare institutions, as well as in larger cohorts of online and readily available datasets. Overall, we demonstrate the effectiveness of PARPi in the treatment of BCR::ABL1 p190+ ALL cell models and that PARP1 is differentially expressed in patient samples. We hope our findings help expand the characterization of molecular profiles in ALL settings and guide future investigations into novel biomarker detection and pharmacological choices in clinical practice.

APOE ε4 polymorphism has been recently described as a possible association with cognitive deficits in COVID-19 patients. This research aimed to establish the correlation between COVID-19 and cognitive impairment, and the APOE gene polymorphism among outpatients. We performed a cross-sectional study with confirmed COVID-19 patients and neurological symptoms that persisted for more than three months from onset. APOE genotypes were determined. The final number of patients included in this study was 219, of which 186 blood samples were collected for APOE genotyping, evaluated 4.5 months after COVID-19. Among the participants, 143 patients (65.3%) reported memory impairment symptoms as their primary concern. However, this complaint was objectively verified through screening tests (Addenbrooke Cognitive Examination-Revised and Mini-Mental State Examination) in only 36 patients (16.4%). The group experiencing cognitive decline exhibited a higher prevalence of the APOE ε4 allele than the normal group (30.8% vs. 16.4%, respectively, p = 0.038). Furthermore, the APOE ε4 allele and anxiety symptoms remained significant after multivariate analysis. This study assessed an outpatient population where cognitive changes were the primary complaint, even in mild cases. Moreover, the ε4 allele, sleep disorders, and anxiety symptoms were more frequent in the cognitive decline group.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematologic malignancy that occurs due to alterations such as genetic mutations, chromosomal translocations, or changes in molecular levels. These alterations can accumulate in stem cells and hematopoietic progenitors, leading to the development of AML, which has a prevalence of 80% of acute leukemias in the adult population. Recurrent cytogenetic abnormalities, in addition to mediating leukemogenesis onset, participate in its evolution and can be used as established diagnostic and prognostic markers. Most of these mutations confer resistance to the traditionally used treatments and, therefore, the aberrant protein products are also considered therapeutic targets. The surface antigens of a cell are characterized through immunophenotyping, which has the ability to identify and differentiate the degrees of maturation and the lineage of the target cell, whether benign or malignant. With this, we seek to establish a relationship according to the molecular aberrations and immunophenotypic alterations that cells with AML present.

BACKGROUND: Coffee consumption has been associated with several adverse pregnancy outcomes, although data from randomized-controlled trials are lacking. We investigate whether there is a causal relationship between coffee consumption and miscarriage, stillbirth, birthweight, gestational age and pre-term birth using Mendelian randomization (MR). METHODS: A two-sample MR study was performed using summary results data from a genome-wide association meta-analysis of coffee consumption (N = 91â462) from the Coffee and Caffeine Genetics Consortium. Outcomes included self-reported miscarriage (N = 49â996 cases and 174â109 controls from a large meta-analysis); the number of stillbirths [N = 60â453 from UK Biobank (UKBB)]; gestational age and pre-term birth (N = 43â568 from the 23andMe, Inc cohort) and birthweight (N = 297â356 reporting own birthweight and N = 210â248 reporting offspring's birthweight from UKBB and the Early Growth Genetics Consortium). Additionally, a one-sample genetic risk score (GRS) analysis of coffee consumption in UKBB women (N up to 194â196) and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (N up to 6845 mothers and 4510 children) and its relationship with offspring outcomes was performed. RESULTS: Both the two-sample MR and one-sample GRS analyses showed no change in risk of sporadic miscarriages, stillbirths, pre-term birth or effect on gestational age connected to coffee consumption. Although both analyses showed an association between increased coffee consumption and higher birthweight, the magnitude of the effect was inconsistent. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that coffee consumption during pregnancy might not itself contribute to adverse outcomes such as stillbirth, sporadic miscarriages and pre-term birth or lower gestational age or birthweight of the offspring.

Este ensaio teórico-reflexivo tem como objetivo discutir sobre as contribuições dos estudos da criminologia e sua crítica para as diversas formas de aprisionamento feminino, e mais atualmente para o encarceramento em massa no sistema prisional, além de abrir espaço para o debate sobre as diferentes perspectivas feministas e as relações com os estudos criminológicos, sobretudo com os posicionamentos da chamada criminologia crítica. Reconhecem-se importantes avanços e conquistas feministas no debate sobre a estruturação masculinizada do direito penal e do seu fazer jurídico, mas também a manutenção de diversas formas de violência de gênero que configuram um sistema penal antropocêntrico, seletivo, racista e discriminatório. Indica-se a urgência de estudos interseccionais que considerem as particularidades e reinvindicações das mulheres no cárcere e suas formas de militância, sobretudo diante de população carcerária feminina composta majoritariamente por mulheres negras, pobres e periféricas. Faz-se visível a necessidade de uma análise dos fatores que atravessam o encarceramento feminino por uma ótica feminista plural, adequada às realidades que se estudam e atenta às múltiplas perspectivas que podem existir dentro do feminismo.(AU)
This theoretical-reflexive essay aims to discuss the contributions of criminological studies and their critique of the various forms of imprisonment of women, and more recently of mass incarceration in the prison system, in addition to opening space for the debate on the different feminist perspectives and their relations with criminological studies, especially with the positions of the so-called critical criminology. Important feminist advances and conquests are recognized in the debate about the masculinized structure of penal law and its legal practice, but also the maintenance of diverse forms of gender violence that configure an anthropocentric, selective, racist, and discriminatory penal system. It indicates the urgency of intersectional studies that consider the particularities and claims of women in prison and their forms of militancy, especially in the face of the female prison population composed mostly of black, poor, and peripheral women. The need for an analysis of the factors that cross women's imprisonment from a plural feminist perspective, adequate to the realities under study and attentive to the multiple perspectives that may exist within feminism, becomes visible.(AU)
Este ensayo teórico-reflexivo pretende discutir las aportaciones de los estudios criminológicos y su crítica a las distintas formas de encarcelamiento femenino, y más recientemente de encarcelamiento masivo en el sistema penitenciario, además de generar debate sobre las distintas perspectivas feministas y sus relaciones con los estudios criminológicos, especialmente con las posiciones de la Criminología Crítica. Se reconocen importantes avances y logros feministas en el debate sobre la estructuración masculinizada del derecho penal y su práctica jurídica, además del mantenimiento de diversas formas de violencia de género que configuran un sistema penal antropocéntrico, selectivo, racista y discriminatorio. Se necesitan estudios interseccionales que consideren las particularidades y reivindicaciones de las mujeres en prisión y sus formas de militancia, principalmente ante la población penitenciaria femenina compuesta mayoritariamente por mujeres negras, pobres y periféricas. Se hace evidente la necesidad de analizar los factores que inciden en el encarcelamiento femenino desde una perspectiva feminista plural, adecuada a las realidades que se estudian y atenta a las múltiples perspectivas que pueden existir dentro del feminismo.(AU)

The WD repeat containing antisense to TP53 (WRAP53) gene codifies an antisense transcript for tumor protein p53 (TP53), stabilization (WRAP53α), and a functional protein (WRAP53ß, WDR79, or TCAB1). The WRAP53ß protein functions as a scaffolding protein that is important for telomerase localization, telomere assembly, Cajal body integrity, and DNA double-strand break repair. WRAP53ß is one of many proteins known for containing WD40 domains, which are responsible for mediating a variety of cell interactions. Currently, WRAP53 overexpression is considered a biomarker for a diverse subset of cancer types, and in this study, we describe what is known about WRAP53ß's multiple interactions in cell protein trafficking, Cajal body formation, and DNA double-strand break repair and its current perspectives as a biomarker for cancer.
