RESUMO

Construction and demolition waste (C&DW) represents a pressing concern within the European Union, underscoring the urgent need for effective waste management strategies. The selection of these solutions constitutes a complex task, entailing the identification of efficient C&DW management strategies that balance appropriate practices, regulatory compliance, resource conservation, economic feasibility, and environmental considerations. LCA is widely utilized to assess environmental impact, yet the economic aspect has not been adequately incorporated into the LCA process in the field of C&DW management. The life cycle costing (LCC) methodology has been tailored to assess economic performance in conjunction with LCA. The selection of an appropriate multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method is vital for the C&DW system. This study proposes a novel framework for C&DW management by integrating LCA and LCC outcomes into MCDM, using AHP for weight determination, and applying TOPSIS to identify the favorable alternative. Four waste management alternatives were examined in the Lombardy region of Italy, namely (i) landfill; (ii) recycling for concrete production and road construction, incineration with energy recovery; (iii) recycling for road construction; (iv) recycling for concrete production and road construction. We determine that, with the implementation of various scenarios, the most suitable scenario emerges to be recycled for concrete production and road construction, with a score of 0.711/1; recycling for road construction with final score 0.291/1, ranks second; recycling for concrete production and road construction, incineration with energy recovery scores 0.002/1, ranks third; and landfill (scores: 0/1) is the worst choice, signifying it has the highest environmental impacts and the least economic benefits. Lastly, recommendations were formulated to enhance the environmental performance of the system.

Data is needed for making informed decisions regarding managing waste in the time of construction and demolition phases of buildings. However, data availability is very limited in most developing countries in the area of waste generation. The objective of this study is to employ an artificial intelligence (AI)-based approach to develop a reliable model for forecasting monthly construction and demolition waste (C&DW) generation in the case study of Tehran, Iran. We have trained different prediction models using various AI algorithms, including multilayer perceptron neural network, radial basis function neural network, support vector machines, and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). According to the findings, all employed AI algorithms demonstrated high prediction performance for C&DW forecasting models. The ANFIS model, with R2 = 0.96 and RMSE = 0.04209, was identified as the model that better represented the observed values of C&DW generation. The better efficiency of the ANFIS model could be due to its effective enhancement of neural networks to model subjective variables based on fuzzy logic capabilities. The developed prediction model can be employed as an efficient tool for policy and decision-making for C&DW management by predicting waste quantities in the future.

In the future, DW memory will replace conventional storage memories with high storage capacity and fast read/write speeds. The only failure in DW memory arises from DW thermal fluctuations at pinning sites. This work examines, through calculations, the parameters that might help control DW thermal stability at the pinning sites. It is proposed to design a new scheme using a stepped area of a certain depth (d) and length (λ). The study reveals that DW thermal stability is highly dependent on the geometry of the pinning area (d and λ), magnetic properties such as saturation magnetization (Ms) and magnetic anisotropy energy (Ku), and the dimensions of the nanowires. For certain values of d and λ, DWs remain stable at temperatures over 500 K, which is beneficial for memory applications. Higher DW thermal stability is also achieved by decreasing nanowire thickness to less than 10 nm, making DW memories stable below 800 K. Finally, our results help to construct DW memory nanodevices with nanodimensions less than a 40 nm width and less than a 10 nm thickness with high DW thermal stability.

INTRODUCTION: Rabbits are routinely used as a natural model of fetal growth restriction (FGR); however, no studies have confirmed that rabbits have FGR. This study aimed to characterize the fetoplacental unit (FPU) in healthy pregnant rabbits using diffusion-weighted MRI and stereology. A secondary objective of the study was to describe the associations among findings from diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI), fetal weight measurement and histological analysis of the placenta. METHODS: Pregnant rabbits underwent DW-MRI under general anesthesia on embryonic day 28 of pregnancy. MR imaging was performed at 3.0 T. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were calculated for the fetal brain, liver, and placenta. The placenta was analyzed by stereology (volume density of trophoblasts, the maternal blood space and fetal vessels). Each fetus and placenta were weighed. Two groups of fetuses were defined according to the position in the uterine horn (Cervix group versus Ovary group). RESULTS: We analyzed 20 FPUs from 5 pregnant rabbits. Fetuses and placentas were significantly lighter in the Cervix group than in the Ovary group (34.7 ± 3.7 g vs. 40.2 ± 5.4 g; p = 0.02). Volume density analysis revealed that the percentage of fetal vessels, the maternal blood space and trophoblasts was not significantly affected by the position of the fetus in the uterine horn. There was no difference in ADC values according to the position of the fetus in the uterine horn, and there was no correlation between ADC values and fetal weight. DISCUSSION: The findings of a multimodal evaluation of the placenta in a rabbit model of FGR suggested is not a natural model of fetal growth restriction.

Among other methods, UWB-based multi-anchor localization systems have been established for industrial indoor localization systems. However, multi-anchor systems have high costs and installation effort. By exploiting the multipath propagation of the UWB signal, the infrastructure and thus the costs of conventional systems can be reduced. Our UWB Single-Anchor Localization System (SALOS) successfully pursues this approach. The idea is to create a localization system with sophisticated signal modeling. Therefore, measured reference, like fingerprinting or training, is not required for position estimation. Although SALOS has already been implemented and tested successfully in an outdoor scenario with multipath propagation, it has not yet been evaluated in an indoor environment with challenging and hardly predictable multipath propagation. For this purpose, we have developed new algorithms for the existing hardware, mainly a three-dimensional statistical multipath propagation model for arbitrary spatial geometries. The signal propagation between the anchor and predefined candidate points for the tag position is modeled in path length and complex-valued receive amplitudes. For position estimation, these modeled signals are combined to multiple sets and compared to UWB measurements via a similarity metric. Finally, a majority decision of multiple position estimates is performed. For evaluation, we implement our localization system in a modular fashion and install the system in a building. For a fixed grid of 20 positions, the localization is evaluated in terms of position accuracy. The system results in correct position estimations for more than 73% of the measurements.

PURPOSE: Patients with colorectal peritoneal metastases (PM) treated with cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are at high risk of recurrent disease. Understanding where and why recurrences occur is the first step in finding solutions to reduce recurrence rates. Although diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI is not routinely used in the follow-up of CRC patients, it has a clear advantage over CT in detecting the location and spread of (recurrent) PM. This study aimed to identify common locations of recurrence in CRC patients after CRS-HIPEC with MRI. METHOD: This was a single-centre retrospective study of patients with recurrent PM after CRS-HIPEC performed between January 2016 and August 2020. Patients were eligible for inclusion if they had both an MRI preoperatively (MRI1) and at the time of recurrent disease (MRI2). Two abdominal radiologists reviewed in consensus and categorized recurrences according to their location on MRI2 and in correlation with previous disease location on prior imaging (MRI1) and the surgical report of the CRS-HIPEC. RESULTS: Thirty patients were included, with a median surgical PCI of 7 (range 3-21) at the time of primary CRS-HIPEC. In total, 68 recurrent metastases were detected on MRI2, of which 14 were extra-peritoneal. Of the remaining 54 PM, 42 (78%) occurred where the peritoneum was damaged due to earlier resections or other surgical procedures (e.g. inserted surgical abdominal drains). Most recurrent metastases were found in the mesentery, lower abdomen/pelvis and abdominal wall (87%). CONCLUSIONS: Most recurrent PMs appeared in the mesentery, lower abdomen/pelvis and abdominal wall, especially where the peritoneum was previously damaged.

A three-dimensional finite element model is used to investigate the vibrational properties of double-walled silicon carbide nano-cones with various dimensions. The dependence of the vibrational properties of double-walled silicon carbide nano-cones on their length, apex angles and boundary conditions are evaluated. Current model consists a combination of beam and spring elements that simulates the interatomic interactions of bonding and nonbonding. The Lennard-Jones potential is employed to model the interactions between two non-bonding atoms. The fundamental frequency and mode shape of the double-walled silicon carbide nano-cones are calculated.

The flapping wings of insects undergo large deformations caused by aerodynamic forces, resulting in cambering. Insect-mimetic micro wings for flapping-wing nano air vehicles mimic these characteristic deformations. In this study, a 2.5-dimensional insect-mimetic micro wing model for flapping-wing nano air vehicles is proposed to realize this type of wing. The proposed model includes a wing membrane, a leading edge, a center vein, and a root vein, all of which are modeled as shell elements. The proposed wing is a 2.5-dimensional structure and can thus be fabricated using polymer micromachining. We conducted a design window search to demonstrate the capabilities of the wing. The design windows, which are areas of desirable design solutions in the design parameter space, are iteratively searched using nonlinear finite-element analysis under quasi-steady aerodynamic modeling. Here, thickness is selected as a design parameter. The properties of real insects, polymer materials, and fabrication conditions are used to determine the other parameters. A fabricable design solution that generates sufficient camber is found from the design windows.

In order to establish a green, low-carbon circular development economic system, imperative goals include achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. This research delves into the resource utilization of city-scale demolition waste (C&DW), aligning with environmental protection needs and sustainable development principles. The paper introduces a unique closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) model tailored for C&DW and employs a distinctive mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model for optimization. Guangzhou serves as a case study for thorough analysis, verification, and practical application of the proposed model, especially under diverse scenarios of carbon price (CP) and carbon trading (CT) policies. The key conclusions drawn from this study include the following: (1) The cost of carbon emissions is intricately influenced by both carbon emissions and carbon price, with the latter effectively regulating the carbon emissions during C&DW recycling. (2) The implementation of a CT policy, with a fixed carbon price, contributes to a further reduction in the cost of C&DW recycling treatment. (3) Under equivalent conditions, the CT policy demonstrates the potential to decrease costs and enhance the economic benefits within the building environmental protection product market. The research outcomes not only contribute to the advancement of management theory in the C&DW recycling supply chain (SC) but also provide a robust theoretical foundation for governmental initiatives aimed at introducing effective C&DW recycling management policies.

OBJECTIVE: An assessment of the effective diameter of a patient's body using electron densities of tissues inside the scan area (Deffρe) was proposed to overcome challenges associated with the estimation of water-equivalent diameter (Dw), which is used for size-specific dose estimate (SSDE). The aims of this study were to (1) investigate the Deffρe method in two different forms using a wide range of patient sizes and scanning protocols, and (2) compare between four methods used to estimate the patient size for SSDE. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Under IRB approval, a total of 350 patients of varying sizes have been collected retrospectively from the Hospital. The Dw values were assessed over six different CT body protocols: (1) chest with contrast media, (2) chest High-Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) without contrast media, (3) abdomen-pelvis with contrast media, (4) abdomen-pelvis without contrast media, (5) chest-abdomen-pelvis with contrast media, and (6) pelvis without contrast media. A MATLAB-based code was developed in-house to assess the size of each patient using the conventional effective diameter method (Deff), Deffρe by correcting either both the lateral (LAT) and anterior-posterior (AP) dimensions (Deff,LAT+APρe) or LAT only (Deff,LATρe), and Dw at the mid-CT slice of the patient images. RESULTS: The results of Deff,LAT+APρe and Deff,LATρe provided a better estimation for the chest protocols with the averages of absolute percentage difference (PD) values in the range of 3 - 7 % for all patient sizes as compared to the Dw method, whereas the averages of PD values for the Deff method were 9 - 15 %. However, Deff gave a better estimation for Dw values for the other body protocols, with differences of 2 - 4 %, which were lower than those obtained with the Deff,LAT+APρe and Deff,LATρe methods. For the chest protocols, statistically significant differences were found between Deff and the other methods, but there were no significant differences between all the methods for the other scanning protocols. The results show that the correction of both dimensions, LAT and AP, did not improve the accuracy of the Deffρe method, and, for most protocols, Deff,LAT+APρe gave larger range differences compared to those based on correction of the LAT dimension only. CONCLUSION: If the Dw cannot be assessed, the Deff,LATρe method may only be considered for the chest protocols as an alternative approach. The Deff method may also be used for all regions taking into account the application of a correction factor for the chest protocols to avoid a significant under or overestimation of the patient dose.

BACKGROUND: Recovery from a foot ulcer is compromised in a diabetic status, due to the impaired tissue microenvironment that consists of altered inflammation, angiogenesis and fibrosis. Phenotypic alterations in both macrophages and fibroblasts have been detected in the diabetic wound. Recently, a fibroblast subpopulation that expresses high matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP1), MMP3, MMP11 and Chitinase-3-Like Protein 1 (CHI3L1) was associated with a successful diabetic wound healing. However, it is not known whether these healing-associated fibroblasts are regulated by macrophages. METHODS AND RESULTS: We used bioinformatic tools to analyze selected public databases on normal and diabetic skin from patients, and identified genes significantly altered in diabetes. In a mouse model for diabetic wound healing, we detected not only a loss of the spatiotemporal changes in interleukin 1ß (IL1ß), IL6, IL10 and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) in wound macrophages, but also a compromised expression of MMP1, MMP3, MMP11, CHI3L1 and VEGF-A in healing-associated wound fibroblasts in a diabetic status. Co-culture with diabetic macrophages significantly reduced the expression of MMP1, MMP3, MMP11, CHI3L1 and VEGF-A in fibroblasts from non-diabetic wound. Co-culture with non-diabetic macrophages or diabetic macrophages supplied with IL6 significantly increased the expression of MMP1, MMP3, MMP11, CHI3L1 and VEGF-A in fibroblasts from diabetic wound. Moreover, macrophage-specific expression of IL6 significantly improved wound healing and angiogenesis in diabetic mice. CONCLUSIONS: Macrophages may induce the activation of wound-healing-associated fibroblasts, while the defective macrophages in diabetes may be corrected with IL6 treatment as a promising therapy for diabetic foot disease.

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to provide a pathological perspective on the management of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) by correlating the prechemotherapy transurethral resection of bladder tumor findings and postchemotherapy radiologic evaluation with final radical cystectomy (RC) findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 79 MIBC patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and RC. Pelvic diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) and pathologic reports were retrieved from our institutional database. All pathology slides were reviewed based on diagnostic criteria with high interobserver reproducibility. RESULTS: Pathologic complete response (pCR) was confirmed in 32 patients (40.5%). The concordance and discordance between MRI and RC findings occurred in 68.3% and 31.7% of cases, respectively. The 21.5% of cases that were clinical CR (cCR) on MRI actually achieved pCR on RC specimens and 46.8% of cases that were non-cCR on MRI were actually non-pCR on RC specimens. In 19.0% of cases, RC findings were pCR, but MRI demonstrated residual tumor and the opposite was 12.7%. The greatest discrepancy between the 2 methods (75%, 3/4) was for the plasmacytoid subtype. Plasmacytoid histology was the most common histological subtype identified in RC specimens after NAC, followed by micropapillary and squamous histologies. CONCLUSIONS: We found that all cases with plasmacytoid and micropapillary subtypes, and squamous differentiation did not show pCR. In particular, the largest discrepancy between MRI findings and RC pathology after NAC was seen in the plasmacytoid subtype. An accurate pathologic diagnosis based on strict criteria to identify histological subtypes of MIBC is necessary for proper treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of nonecho planar (non-EPI) diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect residual cholesteatoma in children. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. SETTING: Tertiary comprehensive hospital. METHODS: Children operated on for a first-stage cholesteatoma procedure from 2010 to 2019 were included. MRIs were performed with non-EPI DW sequences. Initial reports were collected, indicating the presence or absence of hyperintensity suggestive of cholesteatoma. Three hundred twenty-three MRIs were correlated with the subsequent surgery (66%) or year-later MRI (21%), or were considered accurate if performed 5 years or more after the last surgery (13%). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of each imaging procedure for the detection of cholesteatoma were calculated. RESULTS: Two hundred twenty-four children with mean age of 9 ± 4 years old presented with cholesteatoma. MRIs were performed 27 ± 24 months after surgery. Residual cholesteatoma was diagnosed in 35%. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of MRI were 62%, 86%, 74%, and 78%, respectively. Accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity increased significantly over time (multivariate analysis). The mean delay after last surgery was of 30 ± 2.0 months for accurate MRI (true positive or negative) versus 17 ± 2.0 months for nonaccurate (false positive or negative) MRIs (p < .001). CONCLUSION: However, long the delay after the last surgery, the sensitivity of non-EPI diffusion sequence MRI in children has limitations for the detection of residual cholesteatoma. Surveillance for residual cholesteatoma should incorporate findings at primary surgery, surgeon experience, a low threshold for second-look procedures, and routine imaging.

Spinal meningiomas (SMs) are a prevalent subtype of central nervous system tumors, with the majority adhering to the dura mater. In this case, we present the case of a 72-year-old female who initially reported numbness in her legs and the gradual onset of gait disturbances. Over a three-week period, these symptoms progressively worsened until she experienced a sudden onset of weakness and neurological deficits, leading to the diagnosis of acute cord syndrome (ACS). Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an anomaly within the extramedullary space, precisely located at the T8-T9 level. This anomaly exhibited peripheral gadolinium enhancement and demonstrated a dural tail sign, indicating the presence of an abnormal mass. Furthermore, a dorsal spine CT scan confirmed these findings by revealing a hyperdense lesion localized within the T8-T9 region. The lesion was situated posterior to the spinal cord, and conspicuous alterations in the coloration of the dura mater at the corresponding level were evident. A complete surgical resection was performed successfully, and the patient's surgical intervention proceeded without complications. Following the surgery, we observed significant improvements in both sensory and motor functions compared to the patient's preoperative state.

Identifying the regional differences and drivers for carbon reduction of construction and demolition waste (C&DW) recycling is essential to combat climate change. This study aims to calculate the carbon reduction potential for C&DW recycling from 2006 to 2021 in China and investigates the spatial differences and driving factors of carbon reduction potential for C&DW waste by combining the Theil index, Gini coefficient, and geographic detector methods. The carbon reduction potential for C&DW recycling in China was "high in the east and low in the west" overall level, with an average annual growth rate of 6.27%. The overall differences in carbon reduction potential for C&DW recycling are decreasing, mainly due to intraregional differences and inter-provincial differences in Northeast China. The population size, urbanization rate, and technological effect are the key factors influencing carbon reduction potential for C&DW recycling. There are two types of interactions between influencing factor pairs: nonlinear enhancement and two-factor enhancement. This study's results can guide policymakers to devise relevant, regionally specific policies.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic pain after spinal surgery (CPSS), formerly known as failed back surgery syndrome, encompasses a variety of highly incapacitating chronic pain syndromes emerging after spinal surgery. The intractability of CPSS makes objective parameters that could aid classification and treatment essential. In this study, we investigated the use of cerebral diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. METHODS: Cerebral 3T diffusion-weighted (DW-) MRI data from adult CPSS patients were assessed and compared with those of healthy controls matched by age and gender. Only imaging data without relevant artefacts or significant pathologies were included. Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps were calculated from the b0 and b1000 values using nonlinear regression. After skull stripping and affine registration of all imaging data, ADC values for fifteen anatomical regions were calculated and analyzed with independent samples T-tests. RESULTS: A total of 32 subjects were included (sixteen CPSS patients and sixteen controls). The mean ADC value of the spinothalamic tract was found to be significantly higher in CPSS patients compared with in healthy controls (p = 0.013). The other anatomical regions did not show statistically different ADC values between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that patients suffering from CPSS are subject to microstructural changes, predominantly within the cerebral spinothalamic tract. Additional research could possibly lead to imaging biomarkers derived from ADC values in CPSS patients.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the diagnostic power of apparent diffusion coefficient/coefficient of variance (ADCcV) as well as ADC parameters formed based on magnetic resonance images (MRI) in the distinction of molecular breast cancer subtypes. METHODS: The study involved 205 patients who had breast cancer at stages 1-3. Estrogen receptor (EsR), progesterone receptor (PrR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (Her2), and proliferation index (Ki-67) were histologically analyzed in the tumor. The correlations between the immunohistochemistry and intrinsic subtypes were analyzed using ADC and ADCcV. RESULTS: The maximum whole tumor (WTu) ADC (p=0.004), minimum WTu ADC (p<0.001), and mean WTu ADC (p<0.001) values were significantly smaller in the EsR-positive tumors than those in the EsR-negative tumors. Compared to the PrR-negative tumors, the PrR-positive tumors showed significantly smaller maximum, minimum, and mean WTu ADC values (p=0.005, p=0.001, and p<0.001, respectively). In the comparisons of the molecular subtypes in terms of ADCcV, the p-values indicated statistically significant differences between the luminal A (lumA) group and the triple negative (TN) group, between the luminal B (lumB) group and the TN group, and between the Her2-enriched and TN groups (p<0.001, p=0.011, and p=0.004, respectively). Considering the luminal and non-luminal groups, while a significant difference was observed between the groups considering their minimum, maximum, and mean WTu ADC values, their ADCcV values were similar (p<0.001, p=0.004, and p<0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Using ADCcV in addition to ADC parameters increased the diagnostic power of diffusion weighted-MRI (DW-MRI) in the distinction of molecular subtypes of breast cancer.

Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites and was responsible for over 247 million infections and 619,000 deaths in 2021. Radiation-attenuated sporozoite (RAS) vaccines can completely prevent blood stage infection by inducing protective liver-resident memory CD8+ T cells. Such T cells can be induced by 'prime-and-trap' vaccination, which here combines DNA priming against the P. yoelii circumsporozoite protein (CSP) with a subsequent intravenous (IV) dose of liver-homing RAS to "trap" the activated and expanding T cells in the liver. Prime-and-trap confers durable protection in mice, and efforts are underway to translate this vaccine strategy to the clinic. However, it is unclear whether the RAS trapping dose must be strictly administered by the IV route. Here we show that intradermal (ID) RAS administration can be as effective as IV administration if RAS are co-administrated with the glycolipid adjuvant 7DW8-5 in an ultra-low inoculation volume. In mice, the co-administration of RAS and 7DW8-5 in ultra-low ID volumes (2.5 µL) was completely protective and dose sparing compared to standard volumes (10-50 µL) and induced protective levels of CSP-specific CD8+ T cells in the liver. Our finding that adjuvants and ultra-low volumes are required for ID RAS efficacy may explain why prior reports about higher volumes of unadjuvanted ID RAS proved less effective. The ID route may offer significant translational advantages over the IV route and could improve sporozoite vaccine development.

Background and Purpose: Physiological changes in tumour occur much earlier than morphological changes. They can potentially be used as biomarkers for therapeutic response prediction. This study aimed to investigate the optimal time for early therapeutic response prediction with multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) receiving concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT). Material and Methods: Twenty-seven NPC patients were divided into the responder (N = 23) and the poor-responder (N = 4) groups by their primary tumour post-treatment shrinkages. Single-voxel proton MR spectroscopy (1H-MRS), diffusion-weighted (DW) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI were scanned at baseline, weekly during CCRT and post-CCRT. The median choline peak in 1H-MRS, the median apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in DW-MRI, the median influx rate constant (Ktrans), reflux rate constant (Kep), volume of extravascular-extracellular space per unit volume (Ve), and initial area under the time-intensity curve for the first 60 s (iAUC60) in DCE-MRI were compared between the two groups with the Mann-Whitney tests for any significant difference at different time points. Results: In DW-MRI, the percentage increase in ADC from baseline to week-1 for the responders (median = 11.39%, IQR = 18.13%) was higher than the poor-responders (median = 4.91%, IQR = 7.86%) (p = 0.027). In DCE-MRI, the iAUC60 on week-2 was found significantly higher in the poor-responders (median = 0.398, IQR = 0.051) than the responders (median = 0.192, IQR = 0.111) (p = 0.012). No significant difference was found in median choline peaks in 1H-MRS at all time points. Conclusion: Early perfusion and diffusion changes occurred in primary tumours of NPC patients treated with CCRT. The DW-MRI on week-1 and the DCE-MRI on week-2 were the optimal time points for early therapeutic response prediction.
