INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and selenium (Se) on vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) nephropathy. METHODS: A total of 44 rabbits in 7 groups, namely group 1 (Control), group 2 (VUR + sterile urine), group 3 (VUR + sterile urine + NAC), group 4 (VUR + sterile urine + Se), group 5 (VUR + infected urine), group 6 (VUR + infected urine + NAC) and group 7 (VUR + infected urine + Se), were used. 99mTc Dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scan (DMSA), cystogram and urine culture were performed both at the beginning and end of the study. Left VUR was created surgically, and E. coli was inoculated in infected urine groups. NAC and Se were administered daily for 21 days. Malondialdehyde (MDA) measurement, inflammatory response scores (IRSs), and cicatrization response scores (CRSs) in renal tissues were evaluated. RESULTS: VUR did not reduce left renal uptake values in neither group 2 nor group 5. MDA levels of the left kidney were significantly higher in group 5 compared to group 1 (p = 0.001). There was no significant difference in MDA levels between group 5 and group 6, and between group 5 and group 7. Left kidney IRSs were found to be higher in all other groups except group 2 compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Left kidney CRSs were significantly higher in group 5 compared to group 2 (p = 0.026), group 6 (p < 0.001) and group 7 (p = 0.006). CONCLUSION: A decrease in renal functions was not observed in VUR, even if there was infection. When CRSs were evaluated, NAC and Se had protective effects in terms of scar formation in VUR nephropathy. TYPE OF STUDY: Experimental animal study. LEVELS OF EVIDENCE: N/A.

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is defined as the urine backflow from the urinary bladder to the pyelo-caliceal system. In contrast, intrarenal reflux (IRR) is the backflow of urine from the renal calyces into the tubulointerstitial space. VURs, particularly those associated with IRR can result in reflux nephropathy when accompanied by urinary tract infection (UTI). The prevalence of IRR in patients with diagnosed VUR is 1-11% when using voiding cystourethrography (VCUG), while 11.9-61% when applying the contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS). The presence of IRR diagnosed by VCUG often correlates with parenchymal scars, when diagnosed by a 99mTc dimercaptosuccinic acid scan (DMSA scan), mostly in kidneys with high-grade VURs, and when diagnosed by ceVUS, it correlates with the wide spectrum of parenchymal changes on DMSA scan. The study performed by both ceVUS and DMSA scans showed IRRs associated with non-dilated VURs in 21% of all detected VURs. A significant difference regarding the existence of parenchymal damage was disclosed between the IRR-associated and IRR-non-associated VURs. A higher portion of parenchymal changes existed in the IRR-associated VURs, regardless of the VUR grade. That means that kidneys with IRR-associated VURs represent the high-risk group of VURs, which must be considered in the future classification of VURs. When using ceVUS, 62% of places where IRR was found were still unaffected by parenchymal changes. That was the basis for our recommendation of preventive use of long-term antibiotic prophylaxis until the IRR disappearance, regardless of the VUR grade. We propose a new classification of VURs using the ceVUS method, in which each VUR grade is subdivided based on the presence of an IRR.

BACKGROUND: Vesico-ureteral reflux (VUR) is a common associated urological anomaly in anorectal malformation (ARM)-patients. High-grade VUR requires antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent urinary tract infections (UTI's), renal scarring and -failure. The exact prevalence of high-grade VUR in ARM patients is unknown. Hence, the aim of this study was determining the incidence of high-grade VUR in ARM-patients, and its associated risk factors. METHODS: A multicenter retrospective cohort study was performed using the ARM-Net registry, including data from 34 centers. Patient characteristics, screening for and presence of renal anomalies and VUR, sacral and spinal anomalies, and sacral ratio were registered. Phenotypes of ARM were grouped according to their complexity in complex and less complex. Multivariable analyses were performed to detect independent risk factors for high-grade (grade III-V) VUR. RESULTS: This study included 2502 patients (50 % female). Renal screening was performed in 2250 patients (90 %), of whom 648 (29 %) had a renal anomaly documented. VUR-screening was performed in 789 patients (32 %), establishing high-grade VUR in 150 (19 %). In patients with a normal renal screening, high-grade VUR was still present in 10 % of patients. Independent risk factors for presence of high-grade VUR were a complex ARM (OR 2.6, 95 %CI 1.6-4.3), and any renal anomaly (OR 3.3, 95 %CI 2.1-5.3). CONCLUSIONS: Although renal screening is performed in the vast majority of patients, only 32 % underwent VUR-screening. Complex ARM and any renal anomaly were independent risk factors for high-grade VUR. Remarkably, 10 % had high-grade VUR despite normal renal screening. Therefore, VUR-screening seems indicated in all ARM patients regardless of renal screening results, to prevent sequelae such as UTI's, renal scarring and ultimately renal failure. INTRODUCTION: The radiographic grading of voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) images is often used to determine the clinical course and appropriate treatment in patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). However, image-based evaluation of VUR remains highly subjective, so we developed a supervised machine learning model to automatically and objectively grade VCUG data. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 113 VCUG images were gathered from public sources to compile the dataset for this study. For each image, VUR severity was graded by four pediatric radiologists and three pediatric urologists (low severity scored 1-3; high severity 4-5). Ground truth for each image was assigned based on the grade diagnosed by a majority of the expert assessors. Nine features were extracted from each VCUG image, then six machine learning models were trained, validated, and tested using 'leave-one-out' cross-validation. All features were compared and contrasted, with the highest-ranked then being used to train the final models. RESULTS: F1-score is a metric that is often used to indicate performance accuracy of machine learning models. When using the highest-ranked VCUG image features, F1-scores for the support vector machine (SVM) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) classifiers were 90.27 % and 91.14 %, respectively, indicating a high level of accuracy. When using all features combined, F1 scores were 89.37 % for SVM and 90.27 % for MLP. DISCUSSION: These findings indicate that a distorted pattern of renal calyces is an accurate predictor of high-grade VUR. Machine learning protocols can be enhanced in future to improve objective grading of VUR.

Background: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been recently postulated as an inflammatory biomarker for the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). The aim of this study is to determine the role of NLR as a predictor of evolution of primary VUR in patients with associated acute pyelonephritis (APN). Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study was performed in patients with APN episodes with associated primary VUR diagnosed between 2013-2020. Patients were divided into two groups according to VUR evolution after APN: group A [spontaneous resolution (SR)] and group B [VUR complications development (CD) during follow-up: new APN or renal function worsening]. Demographic, prenatal, laboratory, microbiological and radiological data were analysed. Sensitivity and specificity for CD of VUR was determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: A total of 1,146 episodes of APN were analysed of which 273 patients with APN and associated primary VUR were finally included (median age of 11 months at APN diagnosis). SR of VUR occurred in 169 patients (SR group), while CD were observed in the remaining 104 patients (CD group). No differences in demographic, prenatal, microbiological and radiological features were observed. CD patients had significantly higher levels of leukocytes, neutrophils, NLR, C-reactive protein and creatinine. NLR was the parameter with the highest area under the curve (AUC =0.966) for predicting the development of VUR complications (cut-off point =3.41) with a maximum sensitivity of 92.7% and specificity of 91.1% (P<0.001). Conclusions: NLR may be considered as a simple and cost-effective predictor of clinical outcome of VUR, which may correlate with the increased risk of developing complications of primary VUR after an episode of APN. Therefore, it should be included in the management algorithm for these patients, although future prospective studies are still required to confirm these results.

PURPOSE: To evaluate UDR reliability, sensitivity, specificity and to identify the best treatment basing on UDR among single or double endoscopic injections and ureteral reimplantation. METHODS: Data of patients affected by primary VUR and treated by endoscopic injection over a 10 years period were retrospectively analyzed. Two radiologist attributed reflux grade and UDR on voiding cystourethrogram twice and blinded. Follow-up focused on resolution after 1 or 2 endoscopic injections. Relation between UDR, reflux grade and outcomes were analyzed. RESULTS: Patient enrolled were 198. Low grade VUR was present in 24.8%, grade 3 in 41.6%, grade 4-5 in 33.6%. Resolution after one injection was obtained in 88 patients; among 110 not resolved 104 cases had a second injection. Success after 2 injections was reported in 138 cases. UDR showed a higher reliability compared with reflux grade both in intra than inter-reader measurement (ICC > 90%). Success after 1 or 2 injections was reported for UDR < 0.33 and UDR < 0.47 respectively. CONCLUSION: UDR shows to be a more reliable measurement that allows for an objective estimation of VUR severity and prognosis. It represents a quantitative parameter that might be useful to identify patients who may benefit endoscopic or surgical treatment, avoiding unnecessary under or over-treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Renal abscesses are rare in pediatric populations. We aimed to highlight the differences in the computed tomography (CT) imaging characteristics of renal abscesses in patients with and without vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirteen children with renal abscesses were included and categorized into those with and without VUR. Blood and urine culture results were recorded as positive or negative. Imaging characteristics were recorded: with/without subcapsular fluid collection, with/without upper/lower pole involvement, and with single/multiple lesions in kidneys. Fisher's exact test was used for intergroup comparisons of the rate of positive pathogens and imaging characteristics. RESULTS: Nine patients had VUR (45.9%). Blood and urine culture were positive in two (15.4%) and seven cases (53.8%), respectively. There was no significant difference in the rate of pathogen-positive blood and urine cultures (blood culture positive/negative status with VUR vs. that without VUR = 2/7 vs. 0/4, p > 0.999, urine culture positive/negative status with VUR vs. that without VUR = 4/5 vs. 3/1, p = 0.559). The two groups differed significantly regarding subcapsular fluid collection presence (with/without subcapsular fluid collection with VUR vs. that without VUR = 9/0 vs 1/3, p = 0.014). There was no significant difference in upper/lower pole involvement (with/without involving upper/lower pole with VUR vs. that without VUR = 8/1 vs 2/2, p = 0.203). Patients with VUR were non-significantly more likely to have multiple lesions compared to those without VUR. CONCLUSIONS: VUR was associated with subcapsular fluid collection and possibly with multiple lesions, indicating the need for prompt detection of and specific treatment for VUR in cases with these findings.

INTRODUCTION: There are various treatment options for symptomatic bladder diverticulum, including robotic-assisted laparoscopic bladder diverticulectomy, open and endoscopic techniques. But, to date, the optimal surgical technique remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To present the preliminary long-term follow-up results of a novel technique of dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer (Deflux) plus autologous blood injection for correction of hutch diverticulum in patients with concomitant vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). PATIENT AND METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed four patients who had hutch diverticulum with concomitant VUR and had undergone submucosal Deflux following autologous blood injection. Patients with neurogenic bladder, posterior urethral valve, or voiding dysfunction were excluded from the study. Success was defined as the resolution of the diverticulum, hydronephrosis, and hydroureter on ultrasonography at a 3-month follow-up and long-term symptom-free period. RESULTS: Four patients with hutch diverticula were included. The median age at the time of surgery was 6.1 (range 3-8) years. Three of them had unilateral VUR, and one had bilateral VUR. During the procedure, a mean of 0.625 ml Deflux plus a mean of 1.25 ml autologous blood were injected submucosally for correction of VUR. Additionally, a mean of 1.62 ml Deflux plus a mean of 1.75 ml autologous blood were injected submucosally to occlude the diverticulum. The median follow-up was 4.6 (range 4-8) years. This method had excellent success in all patients in the current study with no postoperative complications such as febrile urinary tract infection, or diverticulum, hydroureter, or hydronephrosis in follow-up ultrasounds. CONCLUSIONS: Submucosal injection of Deflux plus autologous blood injection can be a successful endoscopic intervention for treatments of hutch diverticulum in patients with concomitant VUR. Deflux injection can be a simple and cost-effective technique.

Positional instillation of contrast (PIC) cystography is effective for detecting occult vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), which can not be revealed by standard voiding cystourethrography (VCUG). We experienced two cases of young female patients; one had repeated urinary tract infection with a negative VUR on standard VCUG, and the other had findings suggestive of reflux hydronephrosis and intolerance of standard VCUG. They underwent PIC cystography, and occult VUR was detected in both cases. Both were successfully treated with simultaneous endoscopic injection therapy with dextranomer/hyaluronic acid. PIC cystography is useful for detecting occult VUR in children with negative VUR findings on standard VCUG or who are unable to tolerate standard VCUG.

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is associated with urinary tract infections (UTI) and renal scars. The kidney damage is correlated with the grade of reflux and the number of UTI, but other factors may also play a role. Uromodulin (UMOD) is a protein produced by kidney tubular cells, forming a matrix in the lumen. We evaluated whether the common variant rs4293393 in the UMOD gene was associated with febrile UTI (FUTI) and/or scars in a group of children with VUR. A total of 31 patients with primary VUR were enrolled. Renal scars were detected in 16 children; no scar was detected in 15 children. Genotype rs4293393 TC (TC) was present in 8 patients, 7 (88%) had scars; genotype rs4293393 TT (TT) was found in 23 patients, and 9 (39%) had scars. Among children with scars, those with TC compared with those with TT were younger (mean age 77 vs. 101 months), their reflux grade was comparable (3.7 vs. 3.9), and the number of FUTI was lower (2.9 vs. 3.7 per patient). Children with VUR carrying UMOD genotype rs4293393 TC seem more prone to developing renal scars, independent of FUTI.

BACKGROUND: There is limited quality of evidence regarding the accuracy of contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS) for diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) compared to fluoroscopic voiding cystourethrography (VCUG), and minimal data on the use of the ultrasound contrast agent Optison™ for this purpose. OBJECTIVE: To compare the accuracy of ceVUS using Optison™ to VCUG, and to assess inter-rater agreement regarding presence and grading of VUR. STUDY DESIGN: In this retrospective investigation, all sequential ceVUS with Optison™ and VCUG studies performed in children between 2014 and 2017 were reviewed. Two raters independently graded all ceVUS studies using a 5-point scale. CeVUS sensitivity and specificity were estimated separately for each rater using the VCUG report as the ground truth for presence and degree of VUR. Logistic and ordinary linear regression models assessed rater-report agreement and inter-rater agreement for each kidney, Optison™ dose, and referral diagnosis. RESULTS: 97 children (51 females) with 101 paired studies were included. Sensitivity and specificity of ceVUS for VUR detection were identical for both raters: right kidney 75%/90.9%; left kidney 85.7%/78.9% (Figure). There was no statistically significant difference in disagreement between raters and the VCUG report for the right or left kidney. Inter-rater agreement on ceVUS grading was 90% and 88% for right and left kidneys, respectively. There was a significant negative association between fetal hydronephrosis vs urinary tract infection and disagreement between Rater 2 and the VCUG report for the left kidney. There were no other significant associations with respect to either kidney, Optison™ dose, or referral diagnosis. DISCUSSION: Our study showed that detection of VUR with ceVUS and Optison™ is comparable to fluoroscopic VCUG. Based on the VCUG reports, the incidence of VUR in our patient population was substantially lower than in the meta-analysis of Chua et al. and in the study of Kim et al. The explanation for the large discrepancy in VUR incidence may reflect differences in the patient populations, and in our reporting of VUR with respect to kidney number rather than to pelviureteral units. Study limitations include its retrospective nature and potential bias in terms of patient selection. Since VUR is an intermittent phenomenon, sequential rather than simultaneous performance of the ceVUS and fluoroscopic studies might have influenced VUR detection. CONCLUSION: A blinded comparison of ceVUS performed with Optison™ to fluoroscopic VCUG showed moderate-good sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of VUR.

Contrasting data refer to therapies for vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), such as surgical treatments and continuous antibiotic prophylaxis (CAP). This study evaluated the effectiveness of these approaches in children with VUR, analyzing the recurrence of febrile urinary tract infections (UTIs) and the resolution of VUR after the treatment. A total of 350 pediatric patients underwent contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS) to diagnose a VUR, whereas renal scintigraphy evaluated potential scars. After 12 months from the treatment, the VUR, the relapse of febrile UTIs, and reflux-related nephropathy were analyzed. Twenty-seven children had recurrent febrile UTIs after surgical therapy, with a greater rate of relapses observed in III and V VUR grades. Thirteen patients who underwent surgery had scars, independently of VUR grades and gender, with evidence of chronic renal failure at the end of the follow-up period. A total of 140 subjects were treated with CAP, and 30% of them continued to suffer from febrile UTIs. Ninety-five patients with VUR underwent ceVUS after 12 months, with persistent reflux in fifty-two patients. All of them had severe VUR, correlating with the age at diagnosis and gender. CAP therapy prevented scarring better than surgery, especially in children with III and V grades of VUR. A late onset of VUR or VUR involving neonatal patients is rarely a reversible process. This study identified predictors of success or failure of surgical or CAP therapies, evaluating the relapse of UTIs or persistent reflux after the treatment and giving prognostic information in children with VUR.

Mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders (MRCD) constitute a highly heterogeneous group both with regard to clinical manifestations and underlying genetic/biochemical defects. Management of urological complications such as vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) has not been discussed in cases with MRCD. We report a pediatric case of MRCD with recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI) due to primary and secondary VUR.A 6-month-old boy with multiple malformations and a history of aspiration pneumonia was referred to our department for febrile UTI (fUTI). Voiding cystourethrography showed high-grade left VUR and a normal bladder. As a spontaneous resolution of VUR was not observed, he underwent left ureteral reimplantation concomitant with left orchidopexy at the age of 1 year and 7 months. Although he had fUTI immediately after surgery, no recurrence of the UTI occurred after discharge. At the age of 3 years, he had septic shock and cardiac arrest caused by aspiration pneumonia, as well as, encephalopathy following cardiopulmonary resuscitation. At this event, the diagnosis of MRCD was achieved by liver biopsy. Since the age of 4 years, he has had repeated fUTI. VCUG confirmed the bladder deformity and right VUR. He underwent vesico-cutaneostomy at the age of 6 years. The postoperative course was uneventful. No recurrence of UTI was observed at the one-year follow-up.

Purpose: This study aims to compare the outcomes of extravesical (EVUR) and intravesical (IVUR) ureteric reimplantation for primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) via systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Literature review from Medline, Embase, and Cochrane since inception to March 2022 was performed. Meta-analysis was conducted on eligible randomized controlled trials (RCT) and observational cohort studies (OCS) comparing outcomes between EVUR and IVUR. Results: Twelve studies were included, comprising 577 patients (778 ureters) operated by EVUR and 395 patients (635 ureters) by IVUR. Pre-operative VUR grade, postoperative VUR persistence and hydronephrosis was not statistically significant. EVUR had shorter operative time [mean differences (MD) -22.91 min; 95% confidence interval (CI), -44.53 to -1.30, P = 0.04] and hospital stay (MD -2.09 days; 95% CI, -2.82 to -1.36, P < 0.00001) compared to IVUR. Bilateral EVUR had higher risk of postoperative acute urinary retention (ARU) (8.1%) compared to bilateral IVUR (1.7%) (OR = 4.40; 95% CI, 1.33-14.58, P = 0.02). No patient undergoing unilateral EVUR or IVUR experienced ARU. Conclusion: Both EVUR and IVUR are equally effective in correcting primary VUR. Operative time and hospital stay are shorter after EVUR compared to IVUR. However, bilateral EVUR is associated with higher risk of postoperative ARU.

RESUMO

Caudal regression syndrome (CRS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by arrest of caudal spinal growth and associated with wide spectrum multisystemic anomalies. Herein, we presented a case of a newborn baby who did not pass meconium due to imperforated anus and was referred to the pediatric surgeon for urgent diverting loop colostomy. The conventional X-ray, abdominal ultrasound and abdominal pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (1.5 T) at 2-month-old age revealed right kidney agenesis, sacrococcygeal agenesis, vertebral bodies dysraphism and the spinal cord ends at D12-L1 with anterior and posterior bands of the terminating filaments. The diagnosis of CRS was confirmed. Through this case report, we hope to draw attention to this rare syndrome and the wide range of associated anomalies, also to consider this syndrome on the top of differential diagnosis list once the newborn has anorectal malformation mainly imperforated anus.

Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disease involving multiorgan systems that varies in clinical manifestations. Female genital abnormalities in patients with CdLS are rarely reported, and current guidelines for CdLS contain little information related to female genital abnormalities. We report a case of classic CdLS with an NIPBL gene pathogenic variant in a 4.5-year-old girl who experienced recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) with vesical tenesmus. Urogenital physical and imaging examinations revealed external vaginal orifice obstruction and bilateral vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Vaginal diaphragm-like tissue resection and vaginal orifice plasty were performed on this patient. The symptoms of urination disorders and recurrent UTIs, as well as VUR grading, improved after relieving the vaginal obstruction during the operation. For female CdLS patients, especially those with VUR, it is necessary to check for genital abnormalities and perform timely treatment, which is of great significance in improving urination disorder symptoms, reducing resistance during voiding, decreasing the occurrence of secondary VUR, and controlling recurrent UTIs.

BACKGROUND: Urinary screening for 3-year-olds cannot adequately detect congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT). METHODS: Urinary screening for 3-year-olds was investigated over 30 years. Dipsticks for proteinuria, hematuria, glycosuria, leukocyturia, and nitrite at first screening, and dipsticks, urinary sediments, and renal ultrasonography at second screening were performed. Screening results were evaluated. RESULTS: The positive rates of proteinuria, hematuria, leukocyturia, and nitrite relative to 218,831 children at the first screening were 1.0%, 4.6%, 2.3%, and 0.88%, respectively. Thirty-seven glomerular disease, 122 CAKUT, and 5 urological disease cases were found. We detected 6 stage 3-4 chronic kidney disease (CKD) and 3 end-stage kidney disease cases, including 3 CAKUT, comprising 2 bilateral renal hypoplasia and 1 vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), and 6 glomerular diseases, comprising 4 focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and 2 Alport syndrome. The positive rates relative to 218,831 children and CKD detection rates for each tentative diagnosis of mild hematuria, severe hematuria, proteinuria and hematuria, proteinuria, and suspected urinary tract infection were 1.4% and 0.67%, 0.11% and 3.7%, 0.01% and 28.6%, 0.02% and 45.0%, and 0.08% and 9.7%, respectively. Among 14 VUR cases with significant bacteriuria, 13 were found by leukocyturia, 12 had grade ≥ IV VUR, and 10 had severe renal scars. CONCLUSIONS: Nine stage 3-5 CKD cases comprising 3 CAKUT and 6 glomerular disease were found by urinary screening of 3-year-olds among 218,831 children. The combination of urine dipsticks including leukocyturia at the first screening and ultrasonography at the second screening appeared useful.

Duplex collecting systems are common congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract but are infrequently reported in adult populations. This abnormality can present with hydroureteronephrosis secondary to urinary tract obstruction or concomitant vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), and urinary incontinence. Options for surgical management include common-sheath ureteral reimplantation, uretero-ureterostomy, pyelostomy, and heminephroureterectomy. We report the case of a 39-year-old female with a duplex kidney who presented with severe hydroureteronephrosis following a sacrocolpopexy.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze the mid-short-term risk factors for chronic renal failure (CRF) in children with posterior urethral valve (PUV) after valve ablation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective study of 143 patients with PUV who underwent operation was performed. Patients were divided into CRF group (n = 39) and non-CRF group (n = 104). Clinical data of both groups such as the first resection age, last resection age, number of operations, the maximal detrusor pressure (Pdetmax), and vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: The first resection age, last resection age, and the Pdetmax of patients in the CRF group were higher than those of patients in the non-CRF group (P < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that the indicators related to chronic renal failure were last resection age (ß = 1.034, P < 0.05) and Pdetmax (ß = 1.068, P < 0.05). The cut-off value of last resection age was 35.5 months, Pdetmax was 41.65 cmH2O. There was positive correlation of final blood creatinine with last resection age and Pdetmax. CONCLUSION: The last resection age and Pdetmax are the risk factors of chronic renal failure in children with PUV. A Pdetmax of lower than 41.65 cmH2O indicates a good prognosis of renal function in patients with PUV.
