FLT3-ITD and NPM1 mutations are key to defining the genetic risk profile of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We aimed to assess the prognostic features of the FLT3-ITD and NPM1 mutations in old and/or unfit individuals with AML treated with non-intensive therapies in the era before azacitidine-venetoclax approbation. The results of various non-intensive regimens were also compared. We conducted a retrospective analysis that included patients treated with different non-intensive regimens, between 2007 and 2020 from PETHEMA AML registry. We compiled 707 patients with a median age of 74 years and median follow-up time of 37.7 months. FLT3-ITD patients (N = 98) showed a non-significant difference in overall survival (OS) compared to FLT3-ITD negative-patients (N = 608) (P = 0.17, median OS was 5 vs 7.3 months respectively). NPM1-mutated patients (N = 144) also showed a non-significant difference with NPM1 wild type (N = 519) patients (P = 0.25, median OS 7.2 vs 6.8 respectively). In the Cox regression analysis neither NPM1 nor FLT3-ITD nor age were significant prognostic variables for OS prediction. Abnormal karyotype and a high leukocyte count showed a statistically significant deleterious effect. Azacitidine also showed better survival compared to FLUGA (low dose cytarabine plus fludarabine). NPM1 and FLT3-ITD seem to lack prognostic value in older/unfit AML patients treated with non-intensive regimens other than azacitidine-venetoclax combination.

The purpose of this State-of-the-Art Review was to provide a strategic analysis, in terms of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis), of the current evidence regarding the management of uterine isthmocele (Cesarean scar defect). Strengths include the fact that isthmocele can be diagnosed on two-dimensional transvaginal ultrasound, and that surgical repair may restore natural fertility potential and prevent secondary infertility, as well as reduce the risk of miscarriage and other obstetric complications. However, there is a lack of high-quality evidence regarding the best diagnostic method and criteria, as well as the potential benefits of surgical repair with respect to fertility. There is a need for experienced surgeons skilled in the various isthmocele repair techniques. Isthmocele repair does not prevent the need for Cesarean delivery in subsequent pregnancies. There is increasing awareness regarding the accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound in diagnosing isthmocele. This may lead to surgical correction and prevention of obstetric and perinatal complications in subsequent pregnancies, including Cesarean scar pregnancy. Regarding threats, the existence of different surgical techniques means that there is a risk of selecting an inadequate approach if the type of isthmocele and the patient's characteristics are not considered. There is a risk of overtreatment when asymptomatic defects are repaired surgically. Finally, there is an absence of cost-effectiveness analyses to justify routine repair. Thus, while there are many data suggesting that isthmocele has an adverse effect on both natural fertility and the outcome of assisted reproduction techniques, high-quality evidence to support surgical isthmocele repair in all asymptomatic patients desiring future fertility are lacking. There is increasing agreement to recommend hysteroscopic repair of isthmocele as a first-line approach as long as the residual myometrial thickness is at least 2.5-3.0 mm. © 2023 The Authors. Orofacial clefts are one of the most common birth defects and the most common craniofacial malformation worldwide. The most common orofacial clefts (OFCs) are congenital cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL ± P) and isolated cleft palate (CP). The incidence of OFCs varies depending on region and ethnicity; however, it affects approximately 1 in 600 newborns worldwide. In most cases, CL ± P and CP are multifactorial congenital malformations, where both exogenous and genetic factors play an important role. The objective of this study was to describe the frequency of potential risk factors associated with the development of CL ± P and CP in Mexican population. Patients were referred for multisystemic treatment, from private and public institutions in different regions of the country (center, north, and south). Sociodemographic information, prenatal and parental history were obtained through direct interviews with the patients or the patients' mothers in the case of underaged patients. Referred patients were invited to participate in the study. No interventions were applied for this study. The relationship between these factors and the prevalence of CL ± P and CP was studied. A total of 554 patients were included, the majority with CLP (30% to 7%), statistically significant differences were found for folic acid ( P = 0.02) consumption. Familial aggregation did not reach statistical significance for first-degree family members ( P = 0.34) but was significant for second-degree family members ( P = 0.007). More risk factors associated with CL ± P and CP may still be unknown, prompting more epidemiological research and research in other little-studied areas, such as; specific genetic factors in Mexican population.

Failure of second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (2GTKI) is a challenging situation in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Asciminib, recently approved by the US Federal Drug Administration, has demonstrated in clinical trials a good efficacy and safety profile after failure of 2GTKI. However, no study has specifically addressed response rates to asciminib in ponatinib pretreated patients (PPT). Here, we present data on responses to asciminib from 52 patients in clinical practice, 20 of them (38%) with prior ponatinib exposure. We analyzed retrospectively responses and toxicities under asciminib and compared results between PPT and non-PPT patients.After a median follow-up of 30 months, 34 patients (65%) switched to asciminib due to intolerance and 18 (35%) due to resistance to prior TKIs. Forty-six patients (88%) had received at least 3 prior TKIs. Regarding responses, complete cytogenetic response was achieved or maintained in 74% and 53% for non-PPT and PPT patients, respectively. Deeper responses such as major molecular response and molecular response 4.5 were achieved in 65% and 19% in non-PPT versus 32% and 11% in PPT, respectively. Two patients (4%) harbored the T315I mutation, both PPT.In terms of toxicities, non-PPT displayed 22% grade 3-4 TEAE versus 20% in PPT. Four patients (20% of PPT) suffered from cross-intolerance with asciminib as they did under ponatinib.Our data supports asciminib as a promising alternative in resistant and intolerant non-PPT patients, as well as in intolerant PPT patients; the resistant PPT subset remains as a challenging group in need of further therapeutic options.

BACKGROUND: Chronic Urticaria (CU) is a debilitating disease whose treatment is mainly symptomatic. UCREX study aimed to identify CU patients' profile, disease management and quality-of-life (QoL) in daily clinical practice in Spain. METHODS: Observational, 12-months prospective, multicenter study, included de novo or established CU patients attending to dermatology/allergy consultations in 39 Spanish hospitals. MAIN VARIABLES: Urticaria Activity Score (UAS), UAS over 7 days (UAS7). Secondary variables: CU-QoL Questionnaire (CU-Q2oL), EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D), Medical Outcomes Study Sleep (MOS-Sleep) scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). RESULTS: 361 patients included. Of them, 176 (48.8%) considered for the main objective analysis. Mean age (SD) of 46.6 (14.2) years and 71.8% women. The year prior to inclusion, most patients (57.1%) were treated with non-sedating H1-antihistamines (NS-H1AH). At baseline, mean (SD) 3.6 (6.8) visits were registered to primary care. Mean (SD) UAS7 at baseline was 14.3 (11.0) and CU-Q2oL 24.1 (17.0) which tended to improve by 8.6 (9.7) and 13.9 (15.0), respectively, at 12-months. MOS-Sleep and EQ-5D remained steady during the study, except pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression which went from 58.7% and 49.6% to 29.6% and 26.9%, respectively. At baseline, HADS showed a mean (SD) anxiety of 8.7 (4.5) and depression 5.1 (4.4), decreasing to 7.0 (4.3) and 4.7 (4.3), respectively, at 12-months. CONCLUSIONS: Although most CU patients are treated with NS-H1AH, disease activity is still important, negatively affecting patients' QoL, work activity and healthcare resources use. An appropriate disease management could be the basis for symptoms control, QoL improvement and resources optimization.

Expansin and extensin are proteins involved in resistance to various abiotic stresses by processes of cell wall modification and in the formation and elongation of the hairy root. They are located in several organs of the plant included root epidermis. Turbinicarpus lophophoroides is a cactus model to studies these genes in adventitious and transformed roots. In this study, we identified and characterized the expansin7, expansin18 and extensin10 genes in T. lophophoroides. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that the expansin sequences contained the motifs: HTFYG, HFD, YRR, VPC and YW; and certain conserved cysteine (C) residues. Regarding extensin10, the sequence contains the conserved SPPPP (SP4), YYS and YV motifs. The expression analysis in adventitious and transformed roots under osmotic stress (300 mM mannitol), heat (37 °C) and cold (4 °C); shows a higher expression of TlExpA18 in both roots, a decrease in TlExpA7 in transformed roots and a null expression in TlExt10 in both roots. In addition, a morphological comparison of the maturation/differentiation zone, meristem and cap between adventitious and transformed roots by SEM was performed, finding differences in the quantity and length of the hairy roots and the shape of the root cap. Overall, the study concluded that TlExpA18 and TlExpA7 belong to expansin family and TlExt10 belong to extensin family. The expression characteristics of TlExpA18, TlExpA7 and TlExt10 will facilitate the investigation of its function in stress response and other physiological processes in T. lophophoroides.

AIMS: The study was aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity and efficacy of chestnut and quebracho wood extracts against Salmonella by in vitro assays and in vivo trials. METHODS AND RESULTS: The extracts showed inhibitory activity against Salmonella determined by the minimum inhibitory concentration method as well as on the adhesion and invasion of S. Gallinarum (SG) and S. Enteritidis (SE) in Caco-2 cells. Also, transmission electron microscopy revealed that extract-treated Salmonella showed disruption of cell walls and membranes, damage of the cytoplasm and tannin-protein aggregations. In addition, efficacy of the extracts to control SG and SE was evaluated in experimental infection trials in laying hens and broilers respectively. SE excretion was significantly reduced on days 5 (P < 0·01) and 12 (P < 0·025) only in the quebracho group. In the fowl typhoid infection model, hens that received the chestnut extract showed a significantly reduced mortality (P < 0·05). CONCLUSIONS: Our results evidence that these alternative natural products may be a useful tool to control Salmonella in poultry. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Salmonella is a zoonotic pathogen usually associated with poultry production. This study provides information about the mechanism of antibacterial effects of chestnut and quebracho wood extracts to control Salmonella in poultry.

OBJECTIVE: To determine if general anaesthesia influences the intravenous (IV) pharmacokinetics (PK) of acetaminophen in dogs. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, crossover, randomized experimental study. ANIMALS: A group of nine healthy Beagle dogs. METHODS: Acetaminophen PK were determined in conscious and anaesthetized dogs on two separate occasions. Blood samples were collected before, and at 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 minutes and 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 hours after 20 mg kg-1 IV acetaminophen administration. Haematocrit, total proteins, albumin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, urea and creatinine were determined at baseline and 24 hours after acetaminophen. The anaesthetized group underwent general anaesthesia (90 minutes) for dental cleaning. After the administration of dexmedetomidine (3 µg kg-1) intramuscularly, anaesthesia was induced with propofol (2-3 mg kg-1) IV, followed by acetaminophen administration. Anaesthesia was maintained with isoflurane in 50% oxygen (Fe'Iso 1.3-1.5%). Dogs were mechanically ventilated. Plasma concentrations were analysed with high-performance liquid chromatography. PK analysis was undertaken using compartmental modelling. A Wilcoxon test was used to compare PK data between groups, and clinical laboratory values between groups, and before versus 24 hours after acetaminophen administration. Data are presented as median and range (p < 0.05). RESULTS: A two-compartmental model best described time-concentration profiles of acetaminophen. No significant differences were found for volume of distribution values 1.41 (0.94-3.65) and 1.72 (0.89-2.60) L kg-1, clearance values 1.52 (0.71-2.30) and 1.60 (0.91-1.78) L kg-1 hour-1 or terminal elimination half-life values 2.45 (1.45-8.71) and 3.57 (1.96-6.35) hours between conscious and anaesthetized dogs, respectively. Clinical laboratory variables were within normal range. No adverse effects were recorded. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: IV acetaminophen PK in healthy Beagle dogs were unaffected by general anaesthesia under the study conditions. Further studies are necessary to evaluate the PK in different clinical contexts.

Controlling the physicochemical properties of nanoparticles in fluids directly impacts on their liquid phase processing and applications in nanofluidics, thermal engineering, biomedicine and printed electronics. In this work, the temperature dependent viscosity of various aqueous nanofluids containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or graphene oxide (GO), i.e. 1D and 2D nanoparticles with extreme aspect ratios, is analyzed by empirical and predictive physical models. The focus is to understand how the nanoparticle shape, concentration, motion degrees and surface chemistry affect the viscosity of diluted dispersions. To this end, experimental results from capillary viscosimeters are first examined in terms of the energy of viscous flow and the maximum packing fraction applying the Maron-Pierce model. Next, a comparison of the experimental data with predictive physical models is carried out in terms of nanoparticle characteristics that affect the viscosity of the fluid, mostly their aspect ratio. The analysis of intrinsic viscosity data leads to a general understanding of motion modes for carbon nanoparticles, including those with extreme aspect ratios, in a flowing liquid. The resulting universal curve might be extended to the prediction of the viscosity for any kind of 1D and 2D nanoparticles in dilute suspensions.

The degradation of a model pollutant, tartrazine, very used in food industry and usually present in WWTPs effluents and surface waters, was investigated by nine activated homogeneous catalytic processes, namely, Fe3+/H2O2, Fe2+/H2O2, UV/H2O2, UV/S2O82-, UV/Fe2+/H2O2, UV/Fe3+/H2O2, UV, VIS/Fe3+/H2O2, and VIS/Fe3+/H2O2/C2O42-. In order to compare the mineralization and oxidation ability of each process, the removal of dye, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) were analyzed, as well as the overall kinetic rate constant. Also, the different oxidation path-ways (direct photolysis and/or oxidation by free radicals) were estimated for each system. After the comparison, the Fenton process, which had the highest mineralization values, was tested in luminous and dark phases using designed experiments, and the influences of all operating variables were studied by RSM.

Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) is a sensitive marker of blood glucose in patients with diabetes. However, levels can vary considerably, even amongst individuals with similar mean blood glucose concentrations. Other glycated proteins, such as fructosamine, can also act as blood sugar markers, but estimating HbA1c and fructosamine via independent models may lead to errors of interpretation regarding disease severity. From a clinical standpoint, it would be of great interest to know the factors that affect the mean concentration of both HbA1c and fructosamine, which influence the variability in the concentrations of these glycated markers and cause HbA1c/fructosamine discordance. Flexible models are required to illustrate the behaviour of these variables as well as the association between them. This work reviews existing models that might serve in this regard. Flexible copula regression models using splines were used to provide a better understanding of the behaviour of both glycated proteins and the relationship between them under the possible influence of different covariates. This work shows the usefulness of this type of models in practise and provides a basis for their clinical interpretation by means of an understandable case study. Ultimately, to better understand the effects of each continuous covariate, they are represented at the true scale of the response variables.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Neurofilament light chain is a cytoskeletal protein of neurons. Its levels are increasingly recognized as measures of neuroaxonal damage. The aim of this study was to explore serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) levels in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and healthy controls during pregnancy and puerperium. METHODS: This was a prospective, longitudinal, single-center study. sNfL concentration was assessed using a highly sensitive single-molecule array during pregnancy and in puerperium, in a cohort of 39 pregnant patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis (P-MS). Twenty-one healthy pregnant women (HPW) served as a control group. Eight P-MS suffered relapses during pregnancy (P-MS-R) in the first or second trimesters. RESULTS: No differences in pregnancy and delivery data were observed between P-MS and HPW. P-MS showed higher sNfL values than HPW in the first trimester, independently of the presence (P = 0.002) or not (P = 0.02) of relapses during pregnancy. However, in the third trimester, only P-MS-R showed higher sNfL values than HPW (P = 0.001). These differences extended to the puerperium, where P-MS-R showed higher sNfL values than those with no relapses during gestation (P = 0.02). CONCLUSION: These data strongly suggest that sNfL levels reflect MS activity during pregnancy. Additionally, the absence of relapses during pregnancy may have a beneficial effect on neurodegeneration during puerperium.

Bacteria living in biofilms exhibit altered growth phenotypes, while the biofilm provides benefits, the foremost of which is a certain protection against both immune system and killing effect by antimicrobials. Laser-activated irrigation (LAI) and passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) have been proposed as alternative methods for cleaning and disinfecting the root canal, as an adjuvant to conventional chemo-mechanical preparation in order to improve debridement and disinfection. Nevertheless, the potential antibacterial effect of LAI using 0.5% of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) has received little attention. Glass Pasteur pipettes were used to mimic single-tooth root canal and to build Enterococcus faecalis biofilm. Several irrigants and treatments were assayed for 60 s including (I) Saline, (II) NaOCl 0.5%, (III) NaOCl 5%, (IV) Er,Cr:YSGG, (V) Saline + LAI, (VI) NaOCl 0.5% + LAI, (VII) Saline + PUI, and (VIII) NaOCl 0.5% + PUI. Bacterial reduction was measured by counting the colony-forming units (CFUs). Additionally, AFM visualization and measurement of nano-roughness parameters were used to evaluate LAI effect on bacteria. NaOCl 5% unpowered and NaOCl 0.5% + LAI were capable of eliminating all bacteria, whereas non-activated saline solution and NaOCl 0.5% failed to eliminate E. faecalis. Lower efficiencies were achieved by PUI. Surface analysis by AFM revealed apparent alterations in NaOCl + LAI-treated cells. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser-activated irrigation (LAI) increased the bactericidal efficiency of 0.5% NaOCl against E. faecalis biofilm.

Intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the gold standard treatment in acute relapses of multiple sclerosis. Knowing the response to IVMP in advance could facilitate earlier selection of patients for subsequent courses of therapy. However, molecular mechanisms and changes in gene expression induced by methylprednisolone remain unknown. The aim of the study was to identify in vivo differentially expressed genes in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients after 3-6 days of treatment with IVMP. For this purpose, whole-genome transcription profiling of CD4+ T lymphocytes was performed before and after treatment with IVMP in 8 relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients during relapse using Human GE 4x44K v2 microarrays. Differentially expressed genes were identified using a paired t test on GeneSpring v13.0 software. A P-value <0.001 and a twofold change were considered significant. Microarray data were confirmed using real-time PCR. Microarray revealed changes in gene expression: four genes were downregulated (B3GNT3, ZNF683, IFNG and TNF) and seven upregulated (DEFA4, CTSG, DEFA8P, AZU1, MPO, ELANE and PRTN3). Pathway analysis revealed the transforming growth factor-ß signaling pathway to be affected. Comparison with previously published data on in vitro methylprednisolone-regulated genes showed that SMAD7, TNF and CHI3L1 were also downregulated in vivo in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients. In summary, we performed the first in vivo transcriptome analysis in CD4+ T lymphocytes before and after the treatment with IVMP in patients with multiple sclerosis. Identification of differentially expressed genes in patients receiving IVMP could improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of IVMP and highlight potential biomarkers of the response to IVMP.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although the causes of multiple sclerosis (MS) remain partially unknown, environmental and genetic factors are thought to play a role in its aetiopathogenesis. Hypovitaminosis D, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infections have been described as possible MS triggers. Our aim was to analyse the possible link between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and viruses in patients with MS. METHODS: We included 482 patients with MS in a 2-year study. Serum samples were collected to analyse 25(OH)D levels and, according to sample availability, antibody titres against EBV and HHV-6 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. DNA was extracted from blood in order to analyse EBV and HHV-6 viral load by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and to genotype MS-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs3135388, rs2248359 and rs12368653) when possible. RESULTS: The 25(OH)D levels were significantly higher in the first semester of the year than in the second. Carriers of the risk allele rs2248359-C showed lower 25(OH)D levels than non-carriers. For EBV, viral load was significantly higher when 25(OH)D levels were low, demonstrating an inverse correlation between 25(OH)D levels and EBV load. CONCLUSIONS: The 25(OH)D levels could be involved in the regulation of EBV replication/reactivation in patients with MS.

The aim of the present study was to describe the genetic diversity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tuberculosis) strains circulating in the region of Northern Greece. A total of thirty-seven M. tuberculosis clinical isolates were analysed by the spoligotyping method. According to the results, six clusters comprising seventeen strains were detected, and the remaining twenty strains showed unique patterns. The M.tuberculosis families according to SITVITWEB were distributed as follows: Haarlem (H) (27.0%); T (24.3%); Beijing (13.5%); Latin-America and Mediterranean (LAM) (5.4%) and S (2.7%). The remaining isolates (27%) did not match any isolates within the database and they were characterized as orphans. Regarding GenoType MTBDRplus results, two strains (5.4%) were Multi-Drug-Resistant, four strains (10.8%), were isoniazid monoresistant, while the remaining thirty-one strains (83.8%) were susceptible. In conclusion, in the region of Macedonia-Thrace (Northern Greece), there was high phylogenetic diversity among M. tuberculosis isolates. Molecular tools used and data presented can have regional and national impact on tuberculosis control.

A fundamental understanding of the Ostwald ripening effect (ORE) during the mechanochemical synthesis of PbTe nanostructures is presented. The ripening process involves the coarsening of larger particles from those of smaller size; this phenomenon was systematically evaluated at different stages of milling by microscopy analyses (AFM, TEM, STEM and HRTEM). At the early stage of milling, smaller particles and quantum dots are eventually dissolved to lower the total energy assciated with their surfaces. The ripening process - during milling - involves short-range mass transfer among particles. HRTEM analyses allowed us to identify that coarsening occurs by thermo-mechanically activated cooperative mechanisms. The detachment of the atoms from smaller particles to form bigger ones plays a major role in the particle coarsening. It was found that the coarsening process was not limited to crystalline nanostructures; so grain boundaries, edge dislocations and boundaries among crystalline and amorphous phases also play an important role to determine how species migration contributes to generate coarse particles. Those serve as sites for inducing coarsening in an equivalent way as surfaces do. Secondary ion mass spectrometry and elemental chemical mapping (EDX-STEM) revealed that both the purity and the chemical homogeneity of the PbTe nanostructures are prominent features of this material. Additionally, a direct band gap enhancement (780 nm) compared to bulk PbTe (3859 nm) was detected. It occurred due to the quantum confinement effect, lattice imperfections and even surface properties of the nanostructures. It is important to point out that the whole optical behaviour of the PbTe nanostructures was dependent upon the embedded nanoparticles and quantum dots in the clusters and coarse particles ranging from 15 nm to 35 nm.

An electrodeposition process for void-free bottom-up filling of sub-millimeter scale through silicon vias (TSVs) with Cu is detailed. The 600 µm deep and nominally 125 µm diameter metallized vias were filled with Cu in less than 7 hours under potentiostatic control. The electrolyte is comprised of 1.25 mol/L CuSO4 -0.25 mol/L CH3SO3H with polyether and halide additions that selectively suppress metal deposition on the free surface and side walls. A brief qualitative discussion of the procedures used to identify and optimize the bottom-up void-free feature filling is presented.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania mexicana is associated with an important inflammatory response. We here analysed the kinetics of Th17 cells and neutrophils in ear lobe lesions caused by Leishmania mexicana throughout 90 days of disease progression in susceptible BALB/c and semi-resistant C57BL/6 mice infected with 1 × 105 Leishmania mexicana promastigotes. Cells in the lesions were extracted and quantified by flow cytometry, whereas their distribution in the tissues in relation to the parasites was analysed by immunohistochemistry. Our results show that in BALB/c mice, both Th17 cells and neutrophils increase concomitantly and to significantly higher levels on day 90 post-infection, as compared to C57BL/6 mice. Our results provide novel evidence on the cells causing chronic inflammation throughout Leishmania mexicana infections, resulting as a consequence of neutrophil recruitment together with Th17 cell differentiation and recruitment, both of which remain in the infection site throughout the late phase of the infection. We conclude that the more enhanced levels of Th17 cells and neutrophils during chronic inflammatory lesions in BALB/c mice participate in their enhanced susceptibility towards a progressive disease evolution, whereas the more controlled response of these cells in C57BL/6 mice possibly relates to the more resistant profile of this mouse strain.
