RESUMO

Moiré superlattices formed by twisted stacking in van der Waals materials have emerged as a new platform for exploring the physics of strongly correlated materials and other emergent phenomena1-5. However, there remains a lack of research on the mechanical properties of twisted-layer van der Waals materials, owing to a lack of suitable strategies for making three-dimensional bulk materials. Here we report the successful synthesis of a polycrystalline boron nitride bulk ceramic with high room-temperature deformability and strength. This ceramic, synthesized from an onion-like boron nitride nanoprecursor with conventional spark plasma sintering and hot-pressing sintering, consists of interlocked laminated nanoplates in which parallel laminae are stacked with varying twist angles. The compressive strain of this bulk ceramic can reach 14% before fracture, about one order of magnitude higher compared with traditional ceramics (less than 1% in general), whereas the compressive strength is about six times that of ordinary hexagonal boron nitride layered ceramics. The exceptional mechanical properties are due to a combination of the elevated intrinsic deformability of the twisted layering in the nanoplates and the three-dimensional interlocked architecture that restricts deformation from propagating across individual nanoplates. The advent of this twisted-layer boron nitride bulk ceramic opens a gate to the fabrication of highly deformable bulk ceramics.

RESUMO

Africa carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden, accounting for 94% of malaria cases and deaths worldwide in 2019. It is also a politically unstable region and the most vulnerable continent to climate change in recent decades. Knowledge about the modifying impacts of violent conflict on climate-malaria relationships remains limited. Here, we quantify the associations between violent conflict, climate variability, and malaria risk in sub-Saharan Africa using health surveys from 128,326 individuals, historical climate data, and 17,429 recorded violent conflicts from 2006 to 2017. We observe that spatial spillovers of violent conflict (SSVCs) have spatially distant effects on malaria risk. Malaria risk induced by SSVCs within 50 to 100 km from the households gradually increases from 0.1% (not significant, P>0.05) to 6.5% (95% CI: 0 to 13.0%). SSVCs significantly promote malaria risk within the average 20.1 to 26.9 °C range. At the 12-mo mean temperature of 22.5 °C, conflict deaths have the largest impact on malaria risk, with an approximately 5.8% increase (95% CI: 1.0 to 11.0%). Additionally, a pronounced association between SSVCs and malaria risk exists in the regions with 9.2 wet days per month. The results reveal that SSVCs increase population exposure to harsh environments, amplifying the effect of warm temperature and persistent precipitation on malaria transmission. Violent conflict therefore poses a substantial barrier to mosquito control and malaria elimination efforts in sub-Saharan Africa. Our findings support effective targeting of treatment programs and vector control activities in conflict-affected regions with a high malaria risk.

RESUMO

Rechargeable aprotic lithium (Li)-oxygen battery (LOB) is a potential next-generation energy storage technology because of its high theoretical specific energy. However, the role of redox mediator on the oxide electrochemistry remains unclear. This is partly due to the intrinsic complexity of the battery chemistry and the lack of in-depth studies of oxygen electrodes at the atomic level by reliable techniques. Herein, cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) is used to study how the redox mediator LiI affects the oxygen electrochemistry in LOBs. It is revealed that with or without LiI in the electrolyte, the discharge products are plate-like LiOH or toroidal Li2O2, respectively. The I2 assists the decomposition of LiOH via the formation of LiIO3 in the charge process. In addition, a LiI protective layer is formed on the Li anode surface by the shuttle of I3 -, which inhibits the parasitic Li/electrolyte reaction and improves the cycle performance of the LOBs. The LOBs returned to 2e- oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to produce Li2O2 after the LiI in the electrolyte is consumed. This work provides new insight on the role of redox mediator on the complex electrochemistry in LOBs which may aid the design LOBs for practical applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A/B (CDKN2A/B) homozygous deletion has been verified as an independent and critical biomarker of negative prognosis and short survival in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant astrocytoma. Therefore, noninvasive and accurate discrimination of CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status is essential for the clinical management of IDH-mutant astrocytoma patients. PURPOSE: To develop a noninvasive, robust preoperative model based on MR image features for discriminating CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status of IDH-mutant astrocytoma. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: Two hundred fifty-one patients: 107 patients with CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion and 144 patients without CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3.0 T/1.5 T: Contrast-enhanced T1-weighted spin-echo inversion recovery sequence (CE-T1WI) and T2-weighted fluid-attenuation spin-echo inversion recovery sequence (T2FLAIR). ASSESSMENT: A total of 1106 radiomics and 1000 deep learning features extracted from CE-T1WI and T2FLAIR were used to develop models to discriminate the CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status. Radiomics models, deep learning-based radiomics (DLR) models and the final integrated model combining radiomics features with deep learning features were developed and compared their preoperative discrimination performance. STATISTICAL TESTING: Pearson chi-square test and Mann Whitney U test were used for assessing the statistical differences in patients' clinical characteristics. The Delong test compared the statistical differences of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) of different models. The significance threshold is P < 0.05. RESULTS: The final combined model (training AUC = 0.966; validation AUC = 0.935; test group: AUC = 0.943) outperformed the optimal models based on only radiomics or DLR features (training: AUC = 0.916 and 0.952; validation: AUC = 0.886 and 0.912; test group: AUC = 0.862 and 0.902). DATA CONCLUSION: Whether based on a single sequence or a combination of two sequences, radiomics and DLR models have achieved promising performance in assessing CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status. However, the final model combining both deep learning and radiomics features from CE-T1WI and T2FLAIR outperformed the optimal radiomics or DLR model. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 4 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Severe aplastic anemia (SAA) is caused by immune-mediated destruction. Standard immunosuppressive therapy (IST) is effective but needs to be improved. METHODS: The data of patients with SAA and received IST were analyzed retrospectively to conducted this historical control study. RESULTS: A total of 115 SAA patients (60 males; median age of 5.77 years and median follow-up time of 45 months) were enrolled in this study. The complete response rates (CRR) of the eltrombopag group at 3 and 6 months were higher than the control group (30.3% vs.8.2% at 3 months; 50.0% vs. 10.2% at 6 months). The overall response rates (ORR) showed no differences. There were significant differences in the times from G-CSF, Red blood cell transfusion, and Platelet transfusion between the two groups. No difference in overall survival (OS), event-free survival (EFS), and relapse rate between two groups. There is no variable were associated with prognosis in both groups. CONCLUSION: Addition of eltrombopag to IST confers faster hematological response and higher early hematological response in pediatric SAA patients. IMPACT: Addition of eltrombopag to standard immunosuppressive therapy confers faster hematological response and higher early hematological response in pediatric severe aplastic anemia patients. Eltrombopag showed reliable safety but had no impact on long-term response and prognosis. This article is a historical controlled study consisting of 115 pediatric severe aplastic anemia patients and makes up for the lack of clinical data deficient on pediatric severe aplastic anemia with TPO-RA combined with IST.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To develop a high-accuracy MRI-based deep learning method for predicting cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A/B (CDKN2A/B) homozygous deletion status in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant astrocytoma. METHODS: Multiparametric brain MRI data and corresponding genomic information of 234 subjects (111 positives for CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion and 123 negatives for CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion) were obtained from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) respectively. Two independent multi-sequence networks (ResFN-Net and FN-Net) are built on the basis of ResNet and ConvNeXt network combined with attention mechanism to classify CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status using MR images including contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (CE-T1WI) and T2-weighted imaging (T2WI). The performance of the network is summarized by three-way cross-validation; ROC analysis is also performed. RESULTS: The average cross-validation accuracy (ACC) of ResFN-Net is 0.813. The average cross-validation area under curve (AUC) of ResFN-Net is 0.8804. The average cross-validation ACC and AUC of FN-Net is 0.9236 and 0.9704, respectively. Comparing all sequence combinations of the two networks (ResFN-Net and FN-Net), the sequence combination of CE-T1WI and T2WI performed the best, and the ACC and AUC were 0.8244, 0.8975 and 0.8971, 0.9574, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The FN-Net deep learning networks based on ConvNeXt network achieved promising performance for predicting CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status of IDH-mutant astrocytoma. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: A novel deep learning network (FN-Net) based on preoperative MRI was developed to predict the CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status. This network has the potential to be a practical tool for the noninvasive characterization of CDKN2A/B in glioma to support personalized classification and treatment planning. KEY POINTS: • CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status is an important marker for glioma grading and prognosis. • An MRI-based deep learning approach was developed to predict CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion status. • The predictive performance based on ConvNeXt network was better than that of ResNet network.

RESUMO

Herein, SnO2QDs (<10 nm) with small size instead of conventional nanoparticles was employed to modify ZnFe2O4to synthesize porous and heterogeneous SnO2/ZnFe2O4(ZFSQ) composites for gas sensing. By an immersion process combined with calcination treatment, the resultant porous ZFSQ composites with different contents of SnO2QDs were obtained, and their sensing properties were investigated. Compared with bare ZnFe2O4and SnO2QDs, porous ZFSQ composites based-sensors showed much improved sensor response to acetone. For contrast, the sensor performance of ZFSQ composites was also compared with that of ZnFe2O4sphere modified by SnO2nanoparticles with different size. The porous ZFSQ composite with 5 wt% SnO2QDs (ZFSQ-5) showed a better acetone sensing response than that of other ZFSQ composites, and it exhibited a high response value of 110-100 ppm of acetone and a low detection limit of 0.3 ppm at 240 °C. In addition to the rich heterojunctions and porous structure, the size effect of SnO2QDs was other indispensable reasons for the improved sensor performance. Finally, the ZFSQ-5 composite sensor was attempted to be applied for acetone sensing in exhaled breath, suggesting its great potential in monitoring acetone.

RESUMO

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has received considerable attention as a potential risk factor for depressive symptoms. The systematic review was conducted to confirm the dose‒response connection between OSA severity and depression risk. A systematic literature search of English and Chinese articles published in PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and SinoMed databases from their inception to 28 August 2023 was conducted. An evaluation using the Newcastle‒Ottawa Scale was performed. A meta-analysis was used to evaluate the impact of OSA severity. A random-effects dose‒response model was conducted to evaluate the linear and nonlinear dose‒response connections. We evaluated publication bias by funnel plots, and symmetry by Egger's test. We identified 18 cross-sectional researches. 3143 participants which were involved in the dose‒response meta-analysis. Contrasted with mild OSA, individuals with severe OSA had a higher adjusted risk of depression (rate ratio: 1.34, 95% confidence interval = 1.05-1.70), with substantial heterogeneity (I2 = 70.9%, Pheterogeneity<0.001). There is a significant linear connection between OSA severity and depression risk. The depression risk increased by 0.4% for every 1 event per hour increase in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI). The protocol for this unfunded research was drafted and registered at PROSPERO (ID CRD42023474097).

RESUMO

Understanding liver tissue mechanics, particularly in the context of liver pathologies like fibrosis, cirrhosis, and carcinoma, holds pivotal significance for assessing disease severity and prognosis. Although the static mechanical properties of livers have been gradually studied, the intricacies of their dynamic mechanics remain enigmatic. Here, we characterize the dynamic creep responses of healthy, fibrotic, and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)-treated fibrotic lives. Strikingly, we unearth a ubiquitous two-stage power-law rheology of livers across different time scales with the exponents and their distribution profiles highly correlated to liver status. Moreover, our self-similar hierarchical theory effectively captures the delicate changes in the dynamical mechanics of livers. Notably, the viscoelastic multiscale mechanical indexes (i.e., power-law exponents and elastic stiffnesses of different hierarchies) and their distribution characteristics prominently vary with liver fibrosis and MSCs therapy. This study unveils the viscoelastic characteristics of livers and underscores the potential of proposed mechanical criteria for assessing disease evolution and prognosis.

RESUMO

The urgent demand for atomically thin, superlubricating, and super wear-resistant materials in micro/nanoelectromechanical systems has stimulated the research of friction-reducing and antiwear materials. However, the fabrication of subnanometer-thick films with superlubricating and super wear-resistant properties under ambient conditions remains a huge challenge. Herein, high-quality monolayer (ML) NbSe2 (∼0.8 nm) with ultralow friction and super wear resistance in an atmospheric environment was successfully grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for the first time. Moreover, compared with few-layered (FL) NbSe2, ML NbSe2 has a lower friction coefficient and better wear resistance. On the basis of density function theory (DFT) calculations, the adhesion and the degree of charge transfer between ML NbSe2 and the substrate is larger than that of the topmost layer to the underlying layers of NbSe2 with two or more layers, which can be used to explain that the ML NbSe2 favors ultralow friction and super wear resistance.

RESUMO

Li and Na metals with high energy density are promising in application in rechargeable batteries but suffer from degradation in the ambient atmosphere. The phenomenon that in terms of kinetics, Li is stable but Na is unstable in dry air has not been fully understood. Here, we use in situ environmental transmission electron microscopy combined with theoretical simulations and reveal that the different stabilities in dry air for Li and Na are reflected by the formation of compact Li2O layers on Li metal, while porous and rough Na2O/Na2O2 layers on Na metal are a consequence of the different thermodynamic and kinetics in O2. It is shown that a preformed carbonate layer can change the kinetics of Na toward an anticorrosive behavior. Our study provides a deeper understanding of the often-overlooked chemical reactions with environmental gases and enhances the electrochemical performance of Li and Na by controlling interfacial stability.

RESUMO

Defect-rich carbon materials are considered as one of the most promising anodes for potassium-ion batteries due to their enormous adsorption sites of K+ , while the realization of both rate capability and cycling stability is still greatly limited by unstable electrochemical kinetics and inevitable structure degradation. Herein, an Fe3+ -induced hydrothermal-pyrolysis strategy is reported to construct well-tailored hybrid carbon nanotubes network architecture (PP-CNT), in which the short-range graphitic nanodomains are in-situ localized in the pea pod shape hypocrystalline carbon. The N,O codoped hypocrystalline carbon region contributes to abundant defect sites for potassium ion storage, ensuring high reversible capacity. Meanwhile, the short-range graphitic nanodomains with expanded interlayer spacing facilitate stable K+ migration and fast electron transfer. Furthermore, the finite element analysis confirms the volume expansion caused by K+ intercalation can be availably buffered due to the multidirection stress release effect of the unique porous pea pod shape, endowing carbon nanotubes with superior structural integrity. Consequently, the PP-CNT anode exhibits superior potassium-storage performance, including high reversible capacity, exceptional rate capability, and ultralong cycling stability. This work opens a new avenue for the fabrication of advanced carbon materials for achieving durable and fast potassium storage.

RESUMO

Droplet-based triboelectric nanogenerators (D-TENGs) have recently gained much attention due to their great potential in harvesting energy. However, the output performance of conventional single-electrode droplet-based TENGs is limited owing to low induced electrification efficiency. The asymmetric distribution of electric fields on both sides of the electrode edge enhances the electrostatic induction process and improves the output performance of D-TENG. Herein, an induced electrification-enhanced droplet-based triboelectric nanogenerator (IED-TENG) is developed to effectively enhance the output performance by simultaneously optimizing the electrode structure and the dynamics of the water droplet. One droplet falling from a height of 30 cm results in a -70 V output voltage and -6 µA short-circuit current, which is 70 times and 20 times the full-inductive-electrode mode, respectively. The working principle and the relationship between electric signal and droplet dynamics are analyzed in detail. Moreover, the peak output voltage can reach -110 V, and the peak current can get -140 µA by using the power generation of multiple water droplets. The present protocol provides an easy and reproducibility strategy in energy harvesting and sensing areas.

RESUMO

Constructing all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) cathodes with efficient charge transport and mechanical flexibility is challenging but critical for the practical applications of ASSLSBs. Herein, a multiscale structural engineering of sulfur/carbon composites is reported, where ultrasmall sulfur nanocrystals are homogeneously anchored on the two sides of graphene layers with strong SC bonds (denoted as S@EG) in chunky expanded graphite particles via vapor deposition method. After mixing with Li9.54 Si1.74 P1.44 S11.7 Cl0.3 (LSPSCL) solid electrolytes (SEs), the fabricated S@EG-LSPSCL cathode with interconnected "Bacon and cheese sandwich" feature can simultaneously enhance electrochemical reactivity, charge transport, and chemomechanical stability due to the synergistic atomic, nanoscopic and microscopic structural engineering. The assembled InLi/LSPSCL/S@EG-LSPSCL ASSLSBs demonstrate ultralong cycling stability over 2400 cycles with 100% capacity retention at 1 C, and a record-high areal capacity of 14.0 mAh cm-2 at a record-breaking sulfur loading of 8.9 mg cm-2 at room temperature as well as high capacities with capacity retentions of ≈100% after 600 cycles at 0 and 60 °C. Multiscale structural engineered sulfur/carbon cathode has great potential to enable high-performance ASSLSBs for energy storage applications.

RESUMO

B cell expansion with NF-κB and T cell anergy (BENTA) is a disease genetically linked with heterozygous gain-of-function (GOF) mutations in the CARD11 gene with an autosomal dominant expression. Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by systemic inflammation and hypercytokinaemia. Some BENTA patients share similar clinical manifestations as HLH in various aspects, including fever and splenomegaly. In this study, we reported a 15-month-old boy diagnosed as BENTA meeting with diagnostic criteria of HLH. The complications were resolved by antibiotics for controlling severe infection, together with the reduced format of dexamethasone and etoposide for subsiding HLH activities. While the patient was not subjected to disease recurrence and maintained free of infection, a persistent lymphocytosis derived mainly from the expansion of polyclonal B cells was ascertained. Flow cytometry analysis indicated that the subdued degranulation of NK cells prior to treatment had been restored as the HLH-related complications waned. With largely reduced number and ratios in CD4 and CD8 T cells, their proliferation and Vß diversity remained in normal ranges. In vitro stimulation experiment revealed a functional abbreviation of T cells as the percentage of IFNγ-releasing CD3+CD4+ T cells augmented while the percentage reduced in CD3+CD4- T cells. Whole exome sequencing revealed a de novo G123D missense mutation in the CARD11 gene. This new case of BENTA showcased a scenario of predominant HLH activities accompanied by a severe infection normally associated with BENTA. In addition, a brief treatment quenching HLH complication in cooperation with antibiotics for infection control was not able to solve the underlined T cell abnormality as well as B cell expansion caused by CARD11 mutation. A haematopoietic stem cell transplantation or gene therapy is still a pursuit to remedy this inborn error of immunity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To develop a clinical radiomics-integrated model based on 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography ([18F]FDG PET) and multi-modal MRI for predicting alpha thalassemia/mental retardation X-linked (ATRX) mutation status of IDH-mutant lower-grade gliomas (LGGs). METHODS: One hundred and two patients (47 ATRX mutant-type, 55 ATRX wild-type) diagnosed with IDH-mutant LGGs (CNS WHO grades 1 and 2) were retrospectively enrolled. A total of 5540 radiomics features were extracted from structural MR (sMR) images (contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging, CE-T1WI; T2-weighted imaging, and T2WI), functional MR (fMR) images (apparent diffusion coefficient, ADC; cerebral blood volume, CBV), and metabolic PET images ([18F]FDG PET). The random forest algorithm was used to establish a clinical radiomics-integrated model, integrating the optimal multi-modal radiomics model with three clinical parameters. The predictive effectiveness of the models was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: The optimal multi-modal model incorporated sMR (CE-T1WI), fMR (ADC), and metabolic ([18F]FDG) images ([18F]FDG PET+ADC+ CE-T1WI) with the area under curves (AUCs) in the training and test groups of 0.971 and 0.962, respectively. The clinical radiomics-integrated model, incorporating [18F]FDG PET+ADC+CE-T1WI, three clinical parameters (KPS, SFSD, and ATGR), showed the best predictive effectiveness in the training and test groups (0.987 and 0.975, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The clinical radiomics-integrated model with metabolic, structural, and functional information based on [18F]FDG PET and multi-modal MRI achieved promising performance for predicting the ATRX mutation status of IDH-mutant LGGs. KEY POINTS: • The clinical radiomics-integrated model based on [18F]FDG PET and multi-modal MRI achieved promising performance for predicting ATRX mutation status in LGGs. • The study investigated the value of multicenter clinical radiomics-integrated model based on [18F]FDG PET and multi-modal MRI in LGGs regarding ATRX mutation status prediction. • The integrated model provided structural, functional, and metabolic information simultaneously and demonstrated with satisfactory calibration and discrimination in the training and test groups (0.987 and 0.975, respectively).

RESUMO

This research was done to find out how liraglutide affected the growth and movement of two human thyroid cancer cell lines overexpressing GLP-1 receptor (migration of medullary thyroid cancer TT/GLP-1R and papillary thyroid carcinoma TCP-1/GLP-1R). Flow cytometer and cAMP assays were used to identify the expression and activation of GLP-1R in two stable cell lines. Counting Kit-8 for Cells was applied to examine the proliferative ability of cells in two stable cell lines after treatment with different concentrations of liraglutide at indicated time points. To track the capacity for cell migration, the Transwell test was utilized. We found that liralutide-activated GLP-1R could significantly reduce the growth and metastasis of two kinds of thyroid tumor cells, and the inhibitory effect was dose- and time- dependent. The phosphorylatios of Akt, S6K1, and 70SK declined after receiving liraglutide therapy In our previous studies, we found that the GLP-1 receptor agonist Liraglutide inhibited the proliferation and migration of thyroid cancer cells through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. This finding provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of diabetes mellitus complicated with medullary thyroid cancer, and is relatively safe.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Spontaneous isolated celiac artery dissection (SICAD) without associated aortic dissection is a rare disease. Complications are ischemia, aneurysm formation, and rupture. Different treatment options have been reported for managing SICAD, including conservative management, endovascular intervention, and open surgery. Despite the increased recognition of this disease, there are no consensus guidelines on management of this condition. To improve the knowledge and treatment of this disease, a case of SICAD was reported. METHODS AND RESULTS: We describe the case of a 57-year-old woman with SICAD whose symptoms improved after endovascular treatment when conservative treatment failed and systematically analyze the management strategy for patients with SICAD. CONCLUSIONS: SICAD is a rare disease and has no universally agreed upon guidelines for treatment. Most patients can be first treated conservatively for dissection with strict blood pressure control, antithrombotic therapy, and intensive surveillance. For SICAD patients with aneurysms located in the celiac trunk, stent grafts can be used in such patients without affecting the branch blood supply.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a common inflammatory disease in otolaryngology, mainly manifested as nasal congestion, nasal discharge, facial pain/pressure, and smell disorder. CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), an important phenotype of CRS, has a high recurrence rate even after receiving corticosteroids and/or functional endoscopic sinus surgery. In recent years, clinicians have focused on the application of biological agents in CRSwNP. However, it has not reached a consensus on the timing and selection of biologics for the treatment of CRS so far. SUMMARY: We reviewed the previous studies of biologics in CRS and summarized the indications, contraindications, efficacy assessment, prognosis, and adverse effects of biologics. Also, we evaluated the treatment response and adverse reactions of dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab in the management of CRS and made recommendations. KEY MESSAGES: Dupilumab, omalizumab, and mepolizumab have been approved for the treatment of CRSwNP by the US Food and Drug Administration. Type 2 and eosinophilic inflammation, need for systemic steroids or contraindication to systemic steroids, significantly impaired quality of life, anosmia, and comorbid asthma are required for the use of biologics. Based on current evidence, dupilumab has the prominent advantage in improving quality of life and reducing the risk of comorbid asthma in CRSwNP among the approved monoclonal antibodies. Most patients tolerate biological agents well in general with few major or severe adverse effects. Biologics have provided more options for severe uncontrolled CRSwNP patients or patients who refuse to have surgery. In the future, more novel biologics will be assessed in high-quality clinical trials and applied clinically.

RESUMO

Laser-induced graphene (LIG) suffers from serious decay in long-term biosensing, which greatly restricts its practical applications. Herein, we report a new strategy to engineer the LIG surface with Au clusters and chitosan sequentially to form a C-Au-LIG electrode with a superhydrophilic and highly conductive 3D graphene surface, which demonstrates superior performance and negligible decay in both long-term storage and practical usage in vitro and in vivo environments. Moreover, the C-Au-LIG electrode can be used for detecting uric acid (UA) and pH simultaneously from a single differential pulse voltammetry curve with low-detection limitation, high accuracy, and negligible interference with other sweat biomarkers. The integrated C-Au-LIG wearable biosensor was employed to continuously monitor the UA content in human sweat, which can well reflect the daily intake of purines for at least 10 days. Therefore, the C-Au-LIG electrode demonstrates significant application potential and provides inspiration for surface engineering of other biosensor materials and electrodes.
