Introduction/Background: Curcuma longa, a plant native to the Indian subcontinent has a variety of biological activities. Curcumin is the most abundant and biologically active compound with many therapeutic properties. Demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) - the two other bioactive components present in Curcuma longa, besides curcumin, are collectively termed curcuminoids. Apart from the well-known curcumin, BDMC also has been reported to possess promising biological and pharmacological effects, but very little scientific evidence on its safety assessment has been published.Objective: The present study was undertaken to determine the safety of pure BDMC from Curcuma longa extract in rodents which comprises of general toxicity (both four weeks and three months duration), reproductive/developmental toxicity and genotoxicity studies.Methods: The Good Laboratory Practice studies were carried out in accordance with the test guidelines established by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.Results: No treatment-related adverse findings were seen in general toxicity testing and a no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of 1000 mg/kg/day was established after four weeks (sub-acute) and three-months (sub-chronic) dosing. Evaluation of fertility, embryo-fetal, and post-natal reproductive and developmental parameters also showed no adverse findings with a NOAEL of 1000 mg/kg/day established. The results of genotoxicity as evaluated by in vitro reverse mutation assay, and in vivo micronucleus test in mice indicate that BDMC did not induce any genotoxic effects.Conclusion: Oral administration of BDMC is safe in rodents and non-mutagenic, with no adverse effects under experimental conditions.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs, NM-212) are well-known for their catalytic properties and antioxidant potential, and have many applications in various industries, drug delivery, and cosmetic formulations. CeO2 NPs exhibit strong antimicrobial activity and can be used to efficiently remove pathogens from different environments. However, knowledge of the toxicological evaluation of CeO2 NPs is too limited to support their safe use. In this study, CeO2 NPs were orally administered to Sprague Dawley rats for 13 weeks at the doses of 0, 10, 100, and 1000 mg/kg bw/day, followed by a four week recovery period. The hematology values for the absolute and relative reticulocyte counts in male rats treated with 1000 mg/kg bw/day CeO2 NPs were lower than those in control rats. The clinical chemistry values for sodium and chloride in the treated male rat groups (100 and 1000 mg/kg/day) and total protein and calcium in the treated female rat groups (100 mg/kg/day) were higher than those in the control groups. However, these changes were not consistent in both sexes, and no abnormalities were found in the corresponding pathological findings. The results showed no adverse effects on any of the parameters assessed. CeO2 NPs accumulated in the jejunum, colon, and stomach wall of rats administered 1000 mg/kg CeO2 NPs for 90 days. However, these changes were not abnormal in the corresponding histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. Therefore, 1000 mg/kg bw/day may be considered the "no observed adverse effect level" of CeO2 NPs (NM-212) in male and female SD rats under the present experimental conditions.

Serendipity berry plant (Dioscoreophyllum cumminsii (Stapf) Diels) is the source of a naturally sweet protein referred to as monellin. The safety of serendipity berry sweet protein (SBSP) containing single polypeptide monellin (MON) expressed in Komagataella phaffii (formerly Pichia pastoris) and produced via precision fermentation was examined comprehensively through assessments of in vitro and in silico protein digestion, in silico allergenicity, in vitro genotoxicity (reverse mutation and mammalian micronucleus assays), and 14-day and 90-day oral (dietary) toxicity studies in rats. There was no indication of allergenicity for SBSP in the in silico analyses. Results from both in vitro and in silico protein digestibility assessments indicated that SBSP is digested upon ingestion and would therefore be unlikely to pose a toxigenic or allergenic risk to consumers. SBSP was non-genotoxic in in vitro assays and showed no adverse effects in the 14-day or 90-day toxicity studies up to the highest dose tested. The 90-day toxicity study supports a NOAEL for SBSP of 1954 mg/kg bw/day, which corresponds to a NOAEL for MON of 408 mg/kg bw/day.

L-Arg is a nonessential amino acid but has many physiological roles. Accordingly, L-Arg has been used in various fields, but there is only limited information available about its safety upon overdose. Generally, the no-observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) is used when setting the upper amount for chemical substances. Recently, systematic reviews have been used to assess the safety as well as the effectiveness and usefulness of them. Therefore, we conducted an assessment of the safety of the oral intake of L-Arg in healthy subjects using gastrointestinal symptoms as an index. We limited the study design to only double-blind randomized controlled trials and searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, EBSCOhost, and Ichushi-Web from inception until May 2021. Assessment of the quality of studies was conducted using the Cochrane Collaboration tool and Jadad score, and the random effects model was used for data analysis. Ultimately, 34 studies were selected for inclusion in this work. The dosage of L-Arg used in the studies ranged from 2000 to 30,000 mg/day (or/one-time dose), and the treatment duration was 1-84 days. The increased risk of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with L-Arg intake from 23 studies (647 participants in total) in which such symptoms were reported was 0.01 (95% confidence interval: - 0.02-0.04), which was not significant difference. NOAEL was estimated as 7531 mg/ one-time dose using a weighted change-point regression model (UMIN000046133).Registration and protocol: Umin.ac.jp as UMIN000046133.

Andrographis paniculata, commonly known as green chiretta, is a traditionally used plant in India, China, and Southeast Asian countries for its varied health benefits including immune health. The objective of the present study was to assess the safety of AP-Bio®, a standardized A. paniculata extract in Sprague Dawley rats by following the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) test guidelines of acute and 90-day repeated dose sub-chronic toxicity studies. AP-Bio® did not show any treatment-related clinical signs of toxicity or mortality during the 14-day observation period in animals tested in the single-dose acute oral toxicity study up to a dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight. In the 90-day repeated dose sub-chronic oral toxicity study, no treatment-related adverse clinical signs were observed in any of the treated groups (300, 600, and 900 mg/kg). All treated animals showed usual weight gain and comparable feed intake. The ophthalmoscope examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Also, no toxicologically significant changes were observed in urinalysis, hematology, and blood chemistry parameters. Absolute organ weights and relative organ weights of vital organs did not differ significantly compared to control. Gross and histopathological findings did not show any remarkable and treatment-related changes. Results of the safety evaluation showed the median lethal dose (LD50 ) of AP-Bio® was found to be more than 5000 mg/kg rat body weight and the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of AP-Bio® was found to be 900 mg/kg rat body weight.

Bartogenic acid (BA), an active pentacyclic triterpenoid, has been reported for anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-cancer, and anti-tumor activity. However, toxicity profiling of BA has not been reported till date. Hence, this study is designed to evaluate the single dose (12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg) and repeated dose (1.5, 6, and 24 mg/kg) intravenous toxicity of BA in BALB/c mice. Control group received vehicle. In single dose toxicity study, two mortalities were observed at 100 mg/kg of BA whereas lower doses were well tolerated. In repeated dose toxicity study, no mortality was observed. 1.5 mg/kg of BA was well tolerated in mice of both sexes. At 6 mg/kg of BA, female mice showed significant reduction in the body weight as compared to the control group however no significant change was observed in male mice. 24 mg/kg of BA showed significant reduction in the body weight in mice of both sexes. Further, these mice showed significant change in the relative organ weight. However, no toxicologically relevant changes were observed in hematology, biochemistry, and histopathology. Based on the findings, No-Observed-Adverse-Effect-Level (NOAEL) for BA were found to be<24 mg/kg for male mice and<6 mg/kg for female mice.

Withaferin-A (WA) is the principle component of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha). It has several biological activities including anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective, hepatoprotective and immune-modulatory properties. The acute and sub-acute toxicity of oral WA was investigated in mice. In the acute toxicity study, up to 2000 mg/kg of WA was well tolerated without any signs of toxicity or death. In the sub-acute toxicity study, mice were orally administered 10, 70 and 500 mg/kg of WA respectively, daily for 28 days. Upon physiological, serum chemistry, hematology and histopathogical examination, no features suggestive of drug-induced toxicity were observed at any dose levels, thereby confirming the No-Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) to be at least 500 mg/kg. Furthermore, the oral bioavailability of WA was evaluated using single intravenous and oral doses of 10 mg/kg and 70 mg/kg respectively using sparse sampling strategy. Bioanalysis was carried out using a validated LC-MS/MS method. The AUC of WA was found to be 3996.9 ± 557.6 ng/mL*h and 141.7 ± 16.8 ng/mL*h for the intravenous and oral routes of administration respectively. The oral bioavailability was determined to be 1.8%. To conclude, WA was found to be extremely safe even at high doses, with a low oral bioavailability.

Steady-calcium formula (SCF), a functional food mixture with potential of joint care, contains five major ingredients. However, the uncertain cross-reactivity among these included ingredients cannot be excluded. Hence, it is important to ensure the safety of this mixture. In this study, the safety of SCF was evaluated through in vitro genotoxicity assessment and 28-day oral toxicity study in rats. The bacterial reverse mutation test and mammalian chromosome aberration test displayed that SCF did not induce mutagenicity and clastogenicity. The 28-day repeated dose assessment of SCF in rats revealed no mortality and adverse effects in clinical signs, body weight, urinalysis, hematology, organ weight, and histopathology at all treated groups. Although some significant changes were observed in food intake and parameters of serum biochemistry at the highest dose in males, they were not dose-related and considered to be within normal range. These findings indicate that SCF does not possess genotoxic potential and no obvious evidence of subacute toxicity. These results demonstrate for the first time that the genotoxicity and subacute toxicity for SCF are negative under our experimental conditions and the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) of SCF may be defined as at least 5470 mg/kg/day.

In Southeast Asia, the rhizome of Etlingera pavieana is commonly consumed and parts of the rhizomes have been used as a medicine for the treatment of several disorders. Its pharmacological effects have previously been reported. However, its potential toxicity has not been described. This study aimed to evaluate in vivo toxicity of E. pavieana rhizome extract (EPE) in Sprague Dawley rats. Acute toxicity testing of EPE at a single dose of 2,000 mg/kg produced no toxic effects in female rats after 14 days of treatment. Subchronic toxicity testing showed that all doses of EPE (500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg/kg/day) produced no sign of toxicity during 90 days of treatment. All biochemical and hematological values were within normal ranges. There were no significant histopathological differences in the internal organs among the tested groups. Therefore, the no-observed-adverse-effect level of EPE was 2,000 mg/kg/day in both male and female rats, thereby confirming the safety of EPE for use in traditional medicines.

The Scientific Committee (SC) reconfirms that the benchmark dose (BMD) approach is a scientifically more advanced method compared to the no-observed-adverse-effect-level (NOAEL) approach for deriving a Reference Point (RP). The major change compared to the previous Guidance (EFSA SC, 2017) concerns the Section 2.5, in which a change from the frequentist to the Bayesian paradigm is recommended. In the former, uncertainty about the unknown parameters is measured by confidence and significance levels, interpreted and calibrated under hypothetical repetition, while probability distributions are attached to the unknown parameters in the Bayesian approach, and the notion of probability is extended to reflect uncertainty of knowledge. In addition, the Bayesian approach can mimic a learning process and reflects the accumulation of knowledge over time. Model averaging is again recommended as the preferred method for estimating the BMD and calculating its credible interval. The set of default models to be used for BMD analysis has been reviewed and amended so that there is now a single set of models for quantal and continuous data. The flow chart guiding the reader step-by-step when performing a BMD analysis has also been updated, and a chapter comparing the frequentist to the Bayesian paradigm inserted. Also, when using Bayesian BMD modelling, the lower bound (BMDL) is to be considered as potential RP, and the upper bound (BMDU) is needed for establishing the BMDU/BMDL ratio reflecting the uncertainty in the BMD estimate. This updated guidance does not call for a general re-evaluation of previous assessments where the NOAEL approach or the BMD approach as described in the 2009 or 2017 Guidance was used, in particular when the exposure is clearly lower (e.g. more than one order of magnitude) than the health-based guidance value. Finally, the SC firmly reiterates to reconsider test guidelines given the wide application of the BMD approach.

5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (5NQ) or juglone is a bioactive molecule found in walnuts and has shown therapeutic effects in various disease models. Limited information is available regarding the toxicity of 5NQ, thereby limiting the clinical development of this drug. In the present study, oral acute (50, 300 and 2000 mg/kg) and sub-acute toxicity (5, 15 and 50 mg/kg) was assessed in mice to evaluate the safety of 5NQ. The acute toxicity study identified 118 mg/kg as the point-of-departure dose (POD) for single oral administration of 5NQ using benchmark dose modeling (BMD). Repeated administration of 5NQ at doses of 15 and 50 mg/kg/day caused reduction in food consumption and body weight of mice along with alterations in liver and renal function. Histopathological assessment revealed significant damage to hepatic and renal tissues at all doses in the acute toxicity study, and at higher doses of 15 and 50 mg/kg in the sub-acute toxicity study. We observed dose dependent mortality in sub-acute toxicity study and the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) was established as < 5 mg/kg/day. Modeling the survival response in sub-acute toxicity study identified 1.74 mg/kg/day as the POD for repeated administration of 5NQ. Serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were most sensitive to 5NQ administration with a lower limit of BMD interval (BMDL) of 1.1 × 10-3 mg/kg/day. The benchmark doses reported in the study can be further used to determine a reference dose of 5NQ for human risk assessment.

The risk-characterization of chemicals requires the determination of repeated-dose toxicity (RDT). This depends on two main outcomes: the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) and the lowest-observed-adverse-effect level (LOAEL). These endpoints are fundamental requirements in several regulatory frameworks, such as the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and the European Regulation of 1223/2009 on cosmetics. The RDT results for the safety evaluation of chemicals are undeniably important; however, the in vivo tests are time-consuming and very expensive. The in silico models can provide useful input to investigate sub-chronic RDT. Considering the complexity of these endpoints, involving variable experimental designs, this non-testing approach is challenging and attractive. Here, we built eight in silico models for the NOAEL and LOAEL predictions, focusing on systemic and organ-specific toxicity, looking into the effects on the liver, kidney and brain. Starting with the NOAEL and LOAEL data for oral sub-chronic toxicity in rats, retrieved from public databases, we developed and validated eight quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models based on the optimal descriptors calculated by the Monte Carlo method, using the CORAL software. The results obtained with these models represent a good achievement, to exploit them in a safety assessment, considering the importance of organ-related toxicity.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the adverse effects of Rasaraj Rasa tablets after repeated oral administration for 180 days in Wistar rats. Methods: Wistar rats were divided into five groups, of which three were treated with 54, 162, and 270 mg/kg body weight of Rasaraj Rasa, respectively, which correspond to one, three, and five times the proposed human therapeutic dose, for 180 days consecutively. The fifth group (satellite) also received 270 mg/kg body weight of Rasaraj Rasa for 180 days. Body weight and food intake were measured weekly. At the end of the study, all rats were sacrificed, and their blood, serum, and organs were collected and examined using hematology, serum biochemistry, gross pathology, and histopathology tests. In contrast, the satellite group was kept for 4 weeks after treatment. Results: No significant treatment-related toxicological findings were observed in the clinical features, body weight, laboratory findings, and pathological findings of the high-dose treated groups, when compared to those of the control group. Conclusion: The no-observed-adverse-effect-level for Rasaraj Rasa in Wistar rats is set at 270 mg/kg body weight.

Benzyl salicylate (BS) is a natural ingredient of essential oils and a widely used fragrance chemical. A number of in vitro screening studies have evaluated the estrogenic potential of BS with ambiguous results. Lack of dose-response information for the positive control 17ß-estradiol (E2) in most studies makes an assessment of the relative potency and efficacy challenging. Notwithstanding this difficulty, BS has been added as the only fragrance ingredient to the list of the first 14 substances to be screened as potential endocrine disruptors by the European Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (SCCS) and it is included in the Community rolling action plan (CoRAP) of the European REACH regulation to be assessed for the same property. Here we review all literature evidence and present new data to quantify the in vitro potency and efficacy of BS vs. E2 with full dose response analysis in both an estrogen response element (ERE) depending reporter gene assay and in the MCF7 cell proliferation (E-screen) assay. In both assays, very similar results for BS were found. BS is a partial agonist exhibiting 35-47 % maximal efficacy and it is active only close to the cytotoxic concentration. The extrapolated concentration to achieve 50 % efficacy is 21'000'000 higher as compared to E2 in the reporter gene assay. A ca. 36'000'000 higher concentration of BS as compared to E2 is required to reach equivalent partial cell proliferation stimulation in the MCF7 proliferation assay. This potency is significantly below the agonistic activity of known chemicals which cause estrogenic effects in in vivo assays. Importantly, in this study the weak agonistic activity is for the first time directly related to the activity of E2 in a full quantitative comparison in human cell lines which may help ongoing evaluations of BS by regulatory bodies.

Bromochlorophene (BCP) has shown good properties in sterilization and antibacterial activity and is widely used as a household chemical. We evaluated the genotoxicity, single and repeated-dose 28-day oral toxicity, and dermal application of a BCP suspension in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. For the single-dose toxicity study, a dose of 25-1,000 mg per kg of bodyweight (mg/kg b.w.) of BCP was given once orally to SD rats. Mortality and clinical signs were observed and recorded for the first 30 min after treatment, at 4 h post-administration, and then at least once daily for 14 days after administration. For the repeated-dose 28-day toxicity study, the high dose was set at 1,000 mg/kg b.w. and the middle, middle-low, and low dose were set to 500, 250, and 125 mg/kg, respectively. Hematology and biochemistry parameters were examined. Gross pathologic and histopathologic examinations were performed on selected tissues from all animals. A bacterial reverse mutation assay, in vitro chromosomal aberration assay, and in vivo micronucleus assay were performed to assess genotoxicity-dermal application exposure assessment of BCP in rats. A high oral approximate lethal dose (ALD) of 1,000 mg/kg was observed in the single-dose toxicity test. During the repeated-dose 28-day time period, most animal deaths after administration occurred during the first 3 weeks. The 1,000 mg/kg b.w. oral dose caused the death of six male rats (6/7) and four female rats (4/7). At 500 mg/kg b.w., the female rats showed mortality (1/7). For the biochemistry assays, cholesterol was increased significantly compared to vehicle in both sexes in the 250 and 500 mg/kg groups. Histopathological changes with treatment-related findings were observed in the pancreas in female rats treated with a high dose of BCP compared with the vehicle group. BCP showed no genotoxic effect. These data suggested that the ALD of BCP, estimated as a non-genotoxic substance, was over 1,000 mg/kg b.w. in the single-dose toxicity study, and the NOAEL of BCP was considered to be 250 mg/kg b.w. for male and female rats after repeated oral administration for 28 days under the present study conditions.

The COSMOS Database (DB) was originally established to provide reliable data for cosmetics-related chemicals within the COSMOS Project funded as part of the SEURAT-1 Research Initiative. The database has subsequently been maintained and developed further into COSMOS Next Generation (NG), a combination of database and in silico tools, essential components of a knowledge base. COSMOS DB provided a cosmetics inventory as well as other regulatory inventories, accompanied by assessment results and in vitro and in vivo toxicity data. In addition to data content curation, much effort was dedicated to data governance - data authorisation, characterisation of quality, documentation of meta information, and control of data use. Through this effort, COSMOS DB was able to merge and fuse data of various types from different sources. Building on the previous effort, the COSMOS Minimum Inclusion (MINIS) criteria for a toxicity database were further expanded to quantify the reliability of studies. COSMOS NG features multiple fingerprints for analysing structure similarity, and new tools to calculate molecular properties and screen chemicals with endpoint-related public profilers, such as DNA and protein binders, liver alerts and genotoxic alerts. The publicly available COSMOS NG enables users to compile information and execute analyses such as category formation and read-across. This paper provides a step-by-step guided workflow for a simple read-across case, starting from a target structure and culminating in an estimation of a NOAEL confidence interval. In this experimental work, sodium carboxymethyl beta-glucan (CMBG), a chemically altered beta-glucan, is evaluated for mutagenicity and sub-acute oral toxicity. Specifically, the tested material was CM-Glucan Nu, a food grade powder ≥90% CMBG derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. A bacterial reverse mutation test was performed and resulted in no mutagenicity. A 28-day, repeated-dose, oral (gavage) toxicity test on rats was performed at dose levels of 0, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg bw/day. No mortality, target organs or other treatment related effects were observed. The no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) was 2000 mg/kg bw/day, the highest dose tested, for both male and female Han:WIST rats.

2-isopropyl-N,2,3-trimethylbutyramide (WS-23) is a well-known artificial synthesis cooling agent widely used in foods, medicines, and tobaccos. As a commonly cooling agent in e-cigarette liquids, WS-23 has led to concerns about the inhalation toxicity with the prosperous of e-cigarettes in recent years. Thus, the aim of this study is to assess the acute and subacute inhalation toxicity of WS-23 in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) guidelines. In the acute toxicity study, there was no mortality and behavioral signs of toxicity at the limit test dose level (340.0 mg/m3 ) in the exposure period and the following 14-day observation period. In the subacute inhalation toxicity study, there was no significant difference observed in the body weights, feed consumption, and relative organ weights. Haematological, serum biochemical, urine, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis revealed the non-adverse effects after 28-day repeated WS-23 inhalation (342.85 mg/m3 ), accompanied by slight changes in few parameters which returned to normal during the 28-day recovery period. The histopathologic examination also did not show any differences in vital organs. In conclusion, the maximum tolerated dose for WS-23 acute inhalation is not less than 340.0 mg/m3 , and the No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) of WS-23 subacute inhalation was determined to be over 342.85 mg/m3 .

A novel 6-phytase (Phytase TSP, trade name OptiPhos® PLUS) with improved thermostability has been developed for use in animal feed. The safety of the new phytase was evaluated by testing for genotoxicity and subchronic toxicity. In in vitro and in vivo genotoxicity assays Phytase TSP concentrate was not mutagenic and did not induce biologically or statistically significant increases in the frequency of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes. In a subchronic toxicity study, male and female rats administered 100, 500 or 1000 mg/kg body weight/day of Phytase TSP concentrate via oral gavage for 90 days had no mortalities, and no treatment-related effects on body weight, food consumption, clinical observations or ophthalmology. Furthermore, there were no changes in haematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, gross pathology, organ weights or histopathology that could be attributed to the test article. Several endpoints exhibited statistically significant effects, but none was dose-related or considered to be of toxicological relevance. Based on these results, Phytase TSP concentrate (OptiPhos® PLUS) was not genotoxic and the No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) for male and female rats was 1000 mg/kg body weight/day.

Greek fermentation and distillation industries produce traditional spirit beverages, such as tsipouro and tsikoudia, consumed both in bottles and bulk quantities by the general population or tourists. The same spirits are also produced by individuals at home since previous centuries, as a part of the local culture but mainly due to the Greek agricultural sector unique characteristics (small cultivation areas with great number of farmers). In this study, the concentrations of carcinogenic compounds: ethanol and acetaldehyde; and noncarcinogenic: higher alcohols (1-propanol, isobutanol, and isoamyl alcohol), esters (ethyl acetate), and methanol were measured to estimate the potential cancer risk and daily intake of these compounds. The margin of exposure (MOE) of carcinogenic compounds was found to be less than 500 (mean value), well below the toxic threshold of 10,000, above which there is not public concern, as suggested by the European Food Safety Authority. Additionally, through risk assessment of noncarcinogenic compounds, we identified two specific compounds in-bulk spirits (produced by individuals), namely ethyl acetate and isobutanol, with health risk index (HRI) greater than 1 (indicating a possibility to induce side effects by consumption of high amounts). Our results indicate that bottled spirits, which are produced in a controlled environment (alcohol industries), showed higher human safety level in terms of both carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic risk assessment studies, comparing to bulk beverages produced by individuals (with out strict regulations).
