RESUMO
A hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent (HDES)-based optode was designed for the preconcentration and determination of the UO22+ ion in aqueous media using spectroscopic techniques [energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and solid-state absorption]. The optode was developed by incorporation of HDES (tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide and decanoic acid in an equimolar ratio), tri-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, and 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol into a cellulose triacetate matrix. Characterization studies were carried out using different techniques to understand the roles of HDES as a plasticizer, UO22+ extractant, and Br-PADAP immobilizer. Uptake studies revealed that the optimal pH was 3 and sorption followed the type II adsorption isotherm. Uranium in the U-sorbed optode can be directly analyzed over a large concentration range of 0.021 × 10-3-2.1 × 10-3 Mol L-1 using EDXRF. The optode film exhibited a linear dynamic range of 0.84 × 10-6-84 × 10-6 Mol L-1 for uranium, with a lowest limit of detection of 0.084 × 10-6 Mol L-1 by colorimetric analysis. This optode-based method was employed for seawater analysis for its UO22+ concentration without any matrix separation, and the concentration was found to be 1.30 ± 0.06 × 10-8 Mol L-1. The optode exhibited better selectivity for UO22+ in the presence of various cations including Sr2+ and Cs+ in an aqueous medium. Compared to other prevailing optical sensors, this optode performed better in terms of key factors like pH, equilibration time, reusability, and detection limit.
RESUMO
Monitoring soil quality index (SQI) and soil organic carbon (SOC) stock status of the Western Ghats (WG) forests in India is crucial for providing vital ecosystem services alongside sustainable forest management practices. However, comprehensive profile data on SQI and SOC stock across different forest types under WG forests are limited. The study evaluated SQI and SOC stock under three forest types, i.e. tropical wet evergreen (TWE), tropical semi-evergreen (TSE), and tropical moist deciduous (TMD) across WG in Karnataka. SQI was assessed using principal component analysis with two indexing approaches and scoring methodologies, with weightage indexing through nonlinear scoring functions (NLSF) showing superiority over other methodologies. TMD forests exhibited the highest SQI, followed by TWE and TSE, while the lowest was observed in Rippon Pet RF (0.36 surface, 0.28 control section), primarily due to limitations in organic carbon and clay content. SOC stock mirrored SQI trends (TMD > TWE > TSE), with the highest values in Kollegal RF (339.3 MG ha-1) and lowest in Rippon Pet RF (102.5 MG ha-1). Although SOC and SQI were established to be ideal indicators for dynamic ecosystem services (ESs), high OC content in surface soils of Poomale NF induces pedogenic acidification and Al toxicities, indicating potential forest soil degradation. Significant correlation with control section SQI and SOC (p < 0.05) emphasises monitoring subsurface soil status to identify soil degradation, sustainable forestry practices, and complex ESs in forest systems.

Serological assays used to estimate the prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) often rely on manufacturers' cutoffs established on the basis of severe cases. We conducted a household-based serosurvey of 4,677 individuals in Chennai, India, from January to May 2021. Samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to the spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins. We calculated seroprevalence, defining seropositivity using manufacturer cutoffs and using a mixture model based on measured IgG level. Using manufacturer cutoffs, there was a 5-fold difference in seroprevalence estimated by each assay. This difference was largely reconciled using the mixture model, with estimated anti-S and anti-N IgG seroprevalence of 64.9% (95% credible interval (CrI): 63.8, 66.0) and 51.5% (95% CrI: 50.2, 52.9), respectively. Age and socioeconomic factors showed inconsistent relationships with anti-S and anti-N IgG seropositivity using manufacturer cutoffs. In the mixture model, age was not associated with seropositivity, and improved household ventilation was associated with lower seropositivity odds. With global vaccine scale-up, the utility of the more stable anti-S IgG assay may be limited due to the inclusion of the S protein in several vaccines. Estimates of SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence using alternative targets must consider heterogeneity in seroresponse to ensure that seroprevalence is not underestimated and correlates are not misinterpreted.

Over 380 host plant species have been known to develop leaf spots as a result of the fungus Alternaria alternata. It is an aspiring pathogen that affects a variety of hosts and causes rots, blights, and leaf spots on different plant sections. In this investigation, the lipopeptides from the B. subtilis strains T3, T4, T5, and T6 were evaluated for their antifungal activities. In the genomic DNA, iturin, surfactin, and fengycin genes were found recovered from B. subtilis bacterium by PCR amplification. From different B. subtilis strains, antifungal Lipopeptides were extracted, identified by HPLC, and quantified with values for T3 (24 g/ml), T4 (32 g/ml), T5 (28 g/ml), and T6 (18 g/ml). To test the antifungal activity, the isolated lipopeptides from the B. subtilis T3, T4, T5, and T6 strains were applied to Alternaria alternata at a concentration of 10 g/ml. Lipopeptides were found to suppress Alternaria alternata at rates of T3 (75.14%), T4 (75.93%), T5 (80.40%), and T6 (85.88%). The T6 strain outperformed the other three by having the highest antifungal activity against Alternaria alternata (85.88%).

Compounds containing an SF bond have garnered intense interest in the chemical and biological literature. In particular, sulfonyl fluorides (RSO2F) are commonly used as covalent protein inhibitors and biological probes. The introduction of the fluorine atom into drugs often leads to significantly promoted medicinal properties, which revolutionized the development of pharmaceuticals and gained attention because of the beneficial properties of these small and highly electro-negative halogens. The sulfonyl fluoride functional group has also been widely adopted throughout the field of chemical biology due to its unique balance between reactivity and stability under physiological conditions. This comprehensive review highlights the recent developments of sulfonyl fluorides based compounds in a massive range of therapeutic applications. We believe this review article will be helpful to inspire new ideas for structural design and developments of less toxic and potent Sulfur based drugs against the numerous death-causing diseases.

Vulvar lichen sclerosus et atrophicus is an inflammatory disease which can affect the pediatric age group, although rarely. Its prevalence is underestimated. It may have genital or extragenital manifestations. If left untreated, it may progress to complications which hamper the quality of life. The treatment of choice is topical clobetasol propionate. Here, we present a case of prepubertal vulvar LS, which was refractory to topical clobetasol but responded to topical tacrolimus application.
RESUMO
We report a precise measurement of the parity-violating (PV) asymmetry A_{PV} in the elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from ^{48}Ca. We measure A_{PV}=2668±106(stat)±40(syst) parts per billion, leading to an extraction of the neutral weak form factor F_{W}(q=0.8733 fm^{-1})=0.1304±0.0052(stat)±0.0020(syst) and the charge minus the weak form factor F_{ch}-F_{W}=0.0277±0.0055. The resulting neutron skin thickness R_{n}-R_{p}=0.121±0.026(exp)±0.024(model) fm is relatively thin yet consistent with many model calculations. The combined CREX and PREX results will have implications for future energy density functional calculations and on the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter.
RESUMO
We report a precision measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A_{PV} in the elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from ^{208}Pb. We measure A_{PV}=550±16(stat)±8(syst) parts per billion, leading to an extraction of the neutral weak form factor F_{W}(Q^{2}=0.00616 GeV^{2})=0.368±0.013. Combined with our previous measurement, the extracted neutron skin thickness is R_{n}-R_{p}=0.283±0.071 fm. The result also yields the first significant direct measurement of the interior weak density of ^{208}Pb: ρ_{W}^{0}=-0.0796±0.0036(exp)±0.0013(theo) fm^{-3} leading to the interior baryon density ρ_{b}^{0}=0.1480±0.0036(exp)±0.0013(theo) fm^{-3}. The measurement accurately constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter near saturation density, with implications for the size and composition of neutron stars.

We report a case of intussusception presenting as bilious vomiting in a term neonate. Intussusception should be considered as a differential diagnosis even in the neonatal period. Ultrasound scan may help in early diagnosis. This condition needs to be operated early as delayed treatment may lead to bowel necrosis.
RESUMO
Descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCFA) is commonly used pedicle for ante- rolateral thigh (ALT) flap. Oblique branch of LCFA is an alternative pedicle that can be used in micro- vascular surgery. According to review of literature and to the best of our knowledge we could not find the use of oblique branch of LCFA as a pedicle of the ALT flap in regional soft tissue reconstruction. Here we presented a case of a 55-year-old man sustaining soft tissue injury and wound over the left trochanteric and gluteal region following a road traffic accident, who was treated by the use of extended ALT pedicle flap with oblique branch of LCFA as the pedicle for reconstruction of soft tissue defect in trochanteric and gluteal regions with successful outcome.

1. S007-867 is a novel antiplatelet agent that shows promising in vitro and in vivo efficacy. For further development and better pharmacological elucidation, we characterized pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of S007-867 in a mouse model. 2. A sensitive, selective and robust LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated in the mouse plasma and tissue for quantification of S007-867. The chromatographic separation was performed on Waters Symmetry Shield C18 column (150 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) using methanol and ammonium acetate buffer. 3. S007-867 was rapidly absorbed and distributed to various tissues. Following single oral administration of S007-867 in the mouse, the concentration was in the order of C intestine > C liver > C kidney > C heart > C spleen > C lungs > C brain. Tissue to plasma area under the plasma curve ratio suggested that the maximum amount of drug was found in the intestine and liver. Half life of S007-867 was found longer in the heart (8.08 h), spleen (â¼ 7.94 h) and kidney (â¼ 15.41 h) as compared with other tissues. 4. The preclinical pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution data obtained using this LC-MS/MS method are expected to assist the future clinical investigations of S007-867 as a promising antiplatelet agent.

Surface sediment samples were collected from Chitrapuzha (Cochin) estuarine system to identify the natural and anthropogenic origin of organic matter. The distribution and sources of organic matter were assessed with the help of fatty acid and alkane biomarkers. Fatty acids ranging from C12 to C28 were identified and C16:0 was the most abundant fatty acid, which contributed between 23.5 % and 52.4 % to total fatty acids. The low levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids indicate the effective bacterial recycling of algal fatty acids during the whole settling and depositing process. Aliphatic hydrocarbons ranging from C12 to C33 were identified and the total concentration ranged from 7876 to 43,357 ng g(-1). The presence of unresolved complex mixtures and lower pristane to phytane ratios indicates the petroleum contamination in the study area.

BACKGROUND: Out-of-pocket medical expenses are a crucial metric for assessing how well the healthcare system is working toward obtaining universal health coverage in any country. In India, out-of-pocket expenses for health are relatively high compared to other developed countries due to a lack of alternative finance arrangements. The disparity in out-of-pocket medical expenses largely depends upon the public health expenditure, government policies, and level of health insurance coverage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study used a logit regression model to examine the association of the status of health insurance with socio and demographic variables using National Sample Survey 2018 data. The objective of the study is to analyze the impact of demographic variables on the status of health insurance in India. RESULTS: This research found that education and occupation have a significant impact on the status of health insurance, among other demographic factors. CONCLUSION: These findings underscore the importance of targeted policies and interventions aimed at improving access to health insurance among specific demographic groups. Addressing disparities in health insurance coverage based on educational and occupational factors is essential for achieving equitable healthcare access and improved health outcomes in the country. Increasing awareness of health insurance reduces out-of-pocket medical expenses and subsequently brings down economic poverty.
RESUMO
Introduction. The clinical implications of serum anti-PLA2R with glomerular PLA2R deposits in primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is scarcely reported. Hence the study was designed to demonstrate the prevalence of serum anti-PLA2R levels and PLA2R staining in glomeruli in PMN and the clinical implications of the two parameters. Objectives. Investigate the prevalence of anti PLA2R positivity in PMN. Ascertain correlation between serum anti-PLA2R levels and glomerular staining for PLA2R with clinical and lab parameters in PMN. Patients and Methods. Fifty PMN patients during the period from October 2017 to December 2018 were included. Labs were done and eGFR was calculated as per MDRD 6. Anti-PLA2R titres were done in all patients. Titres more than 20 RU/ml were considered positive. Glomerular staining for PLA2R was graded on fresh frozen tissue by immunofluorescence technique. Results. Anti-PLA2R antibody positivity and glomerular PLA2R deposition was observed in 42% (21/50) and 86% (43/50) patients respectively. 79.3% (23/29) had positive glomerular PLA2R deposition with negative serum anti PLA2R. Positive correlation were observed between serum PLA2R antibody and serum creatinine (p = 0.0001) and urine protein-creatinine ratio levels with tissue PLA2R staining grades (p = 0.04). Negative association was found between serum albumin (p = 0.026) and tissue PLA2R staining grades. Conclusion. Serum anti-PLA2R wasn't a sensitive marker of primary membranous nephropathy in our study group emphasising the need to consider a compendium of serological markers for diagnosis of primary membranous nephropathy and to rely more on glomerular deposition of PLA2R as a better clinical indicator for PMN.

We report on parity-violating asymmetries in the nucleon resonance region measured using inclusive inelastic scattering of 5-6 GeV longitudinally polarized electrons off an unpolarized deuterium target. These results are the first parity-violating asymmetry data in the resonance region beyond the Δ(1232). They provide a verification of quark-hadron duality-the equivalence of the quark- and hadron-based pictures of the nucleon-at the (10-15)% level in this electroweak observable, which is dominated by contributions from the nucleon electroweak γZ interference structure functions. In addition, the results provide constraints on nucleon resonance models relevant for calculating background corrections to elastic parity-violating electron scattering measurements.
RESUMO
A divergent asymmetric synthesis of the titled iminosugars has been formulated starting from a chiral homoallyl alcohol as the versatile intermediate. The homoallyl alcohol was prepared by a highly diastereoselective Barbier reaction on a d-glucose-derived aldehyde. The protection of its hydroxyl function followed by reductive ozonolysis of the olefin and a subsequent one-pot three-step protocol involving a Staudinger reaction, reductive amination, and benzyloxy carbonyl protection yielded an important bicyclic furanopiperidine derivative. This was converted to the target compounds by following standard reactions. Among the synthesized compounds, 4-epi-fagomine (2b) was the best ß-galactosidase inhibitor, and it also prevented LPS-mediated activation of Raw 264.7 macrophage cells. Its congener, 3,4-dihydroxypipecolic acid (4b) also showed similar trends in its cytokine- and enzyme-inhibitory properties at a low concentration (10 µM) but was proinflammatory at higher concentrations. The bicyclic compound dihydroxyindolizidine (21) reduced the proinflammatory cytokine (IL-1ß and TNF-α) levels in the LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells without showing any enzyme-inhibition activity.

A general and efficient route towards the synthesis of three derivatives of structurally and functionally important amino acid, lysine is reported. Chemoselective reduction of aldehydic functionality in C-3-azido conjugated aldehyde 4, under Luche condition, is the key step in the synthetic sequence. The lysine derivative, (2S,3R)-2,6-diazido-3-hydroxy-hex-4-ene-oic acid 9 could be used to prepare switch peptide using Staudinger reaction, while the unprotected (2S,3R)-2,6-diamino-3-hydroxy-hexanoic acid hydrochloride 10 is a proven reaction intermediate towards the synthesis of natural product (-)-Balanol.

BACKGROUND: Schima wallichii is a highly valuable tree of tropical forest in north-east Himalaya region that grows naturally in a wide range of altitudes between 750 and 2400 m asl with varying environments. Flowering phenology of tropical tree species at population level is generally ignored and therefore a detailed knowledge of flowering and fruiting patterns of important multipurpose tree species is critical to the successful management of forest genetic resources. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted at two different altitudes (i.e., 750 m and 900 m asl) in the tropical semideciduous forest of north-east Himalaya. The floral phenology including flowering synchrony in the populations, anthesis, anther dehiscence, stigma receptivity, pollinators visitation frequency, and mating system including index of self-incompatibility were worked out in Schima wallichii according to the ear-marked standard methods given by various scientists for each parameter. RESULTS: The flowering period in Schima wallichii varied from 33 to 42 days with mean synchrony of 0.54 to 0.68 between the populations. The stigma was receptive up to 2.5 days only and showed slightly protandrous type of dichogamy. Average pollen production ranged between 6.90 × 10(7) pollen per tree in 2007 and 15.49 × 10(8) pollen per tree in 2011. A three-year masting cycle was noticed in this species. The frequency of visitation of honey bees was fairly high (5.2 ± 1.12 visits/flower/hour) as compared to other pollinators. The hand pollination revealed maximum fruit (74.2 ± 5.72%) and seed (70.8 ± 7.46%) settings. CONCLUSIONS: The variation in flowering phenology and pollen yield individually and annually along with temporal separation in anther dehiscence and pollinator's visitation cause pollen limited reproduction, which ultimately influences the reproductive success in Schima wallichii.
