RESUMO

Partitioning the pores of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is an attractive strategy for introducing microporosity and achieving new functionality, but it is technically challenging to achieve. Herein, we report a simple strategy for partitioning the micropores/mesopores of multivariate COFs. Our approach relies on the predesign and synthesis of multicomponent COFs through imine condensation reactions with aldehyde groups anchored in the COF pores, followed by inserting additional symmetric building blocks (with C2 or C3 symmetries) as pore partition agents. This approach allowed tetragonal or hexagonal pores to be partitioned into two or three smaller micropores, respectively. The synthesized library of pore-partitioned COFs was then applied for the capture of iodine pollutants (i.e., I2 and CH3I). This rich inventory allowed deep exploration of the relationships between the COF adsorbent composition, pore architecture, and adsorption capacity for I2 and CH3I capture under wide-ranging conditions. Notably, one of our developed pore-partitioned COFs (COF 3-2P) exhibited greatly enhanced dynamic I2 and CH3I adsorption performances compared to its parent COF (COF 3) in breakthrough tests, setting a new benchmark for COF-based adsorbents. Results present an effective design strategy toward functional COFs with tunable pore environments, functions, and properties.

RESUMO

Utilizing photocatalytic method to produce hydrogen by splitting water is an efficient strategy to solve the hotspot issues of energy crisis and environmental pollution. Herein, we systematically investigate the corresponding properties of the reported Cu-bearing ternary compound monolayer CuP2Se by using the first-principle calculations. The monolayer CuP2Se has quite small cleavage energy of 0.51 J/m2, indicating it can be easily produced by the mechanical exfoliation method experimentally. In addition, it is an indirect bandgap semiconductor material which has a moderate value of 1.91 eV. The conduction band minimum (CBM) and valence band maximum (VBM) can perfectly straddle the redox potentials of water when a biaxial strain of -4% to 4% is applied, unveiling the high photocatalytic thermodynamic stability of monolayer CuP2Se in response to the effect of solvent tension. Remarkably, the monolayer CuP2Se also demonstrates significant sunlight capturing ability in the visible region. The outstanding electronic and optical properties suggest that the monolayer CuP2Se is undoubtedly a viable material for photocatalytic water splitting.

RESUMO

Intracellular lipid systems play essential roles in various physiological functions and cell growth processes. However, our understanding of the intricate interactions within this system, especially between mitochondria and lipid droplets, is limited, particularly in the context of cancer cells' altered lipid metabolism. To address this, our study introduces an N-B-O BODIPY-hexylcarbazole derivative, named Cz-Boranil, that sets a new benchmark in visualizing these critical interactions. Cz-Boranil's unique capability lies in its ability to display distinct intracellular distribution patterns in both normal and cancer cells, offering nuanced cell type-specific differentiation. More impressively, this probe tracks the coordinated interactions of lipid droplets and mitochondria during the critical processes of ferroptosis and apoptosis. We believe that the innovative capabilities of Cz-Boranil will revolutionize our understanding of intracellular lipid interactions and prove pivotal in identifying and studying cancerous cells.

RESUMO

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a new kind of crystalline porous materials composed of organic molecules connected by covalent bonds, processes the characteristics of low density, large specific surface area, adjustable pore size and structure, and easy to functionalize, which have been widely used in the field of membrane separation technology. Recently, there are more and more researches focusing on the preparation methods, separation application, and mechanism of COF membranes, which need to be further summarized and compared. In this review, we primarily summarized several conventional preparation methods, such as two-phase interfacial polymerization, in-situ growth on substrate, unidirectional diffusion method, layer-by-layer assembly method, mixed matrix membranes, and so on. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are briefly summarized. The application potential of COF membrane in liquid separation are introduced from four aspects: dyeing wastewater treatment, heavy metal removal, seawater desalination and oil-water separation. Then, the mechanisms including pore structure, hydrophilic/hydrophobic, electrostatic repulsion/attraction and Donnan effect are introduced. For the efficient removal of different kind of pollutions, researchers can select different ligands to construct membranes with specific pore size, hydrophily, salt or organic rejection ability and functional group. The ideas for the design and preparation of COF membranes are introduced. Finally, the future direction and challenges of the next generation of COF membranes in the field of separation are prospected.

RESUMO

With the rapid development of nuclear technology and peaceful utilization of nuclear energy, plentiful U(VI) not only is required to be extracted from solutions for a sustainable nuclear fuel supply but also is inevitably released into the surrounding environment to result in pollution and threaten human health. Thereby, realizing selective extraction of U(VI) from aqueous solutions is crucial for U(VI) pollution control and a sustainable nuclear industry. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained multidisciplinary attention due to their excellent properties including large specific surface areas, tunable pore structures, easy functionalization, etc. This Review comprehensively summarizes the research progress of MOFs and MOF-based materials on U(VI) removal from aqueous solutions by sorption, photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, membrane separation, etc. The efficient high extraction ability is dependent on the intrinsic properties of MOFs and the techniques used. The removal properties of MOF-based materials as adsorbents, photocatalysts, and electrocatalysts for U(VI) are discussed. Information about the interaction mechanisms between U(VI) and MOF-based materials are analyzed in-depth, including experiments, theoretical calculations, and advanced spectroscopy analysis. The removal properties for U(VI) of various MOF-based materials are assessed through different techniques. Finally, a summary and perspective on the direction and challenges of MOF-based materials and various pollutant removal technologies are proposed to provide some significant information on designing and fabricating MOF-based materials for environmental pollution management.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Seeking positive and comprehensive rehabilitation methods after stroke is an urgent problem to be solved, which is very important to improve the dysfunction of stroke. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of motor imagery-based brain-computer interface training (MI-BCI) on upper limb function and attention in stroke patients with hemiplegia. METHODS: Sixty stroke patients with impairment of upper extremity function and decreased attention were randomly assigned to the control group (CR group) or the experimental group (BCI group) in a 1:1 ratio. Patients in the CR group received conventional rehabilitation. Patients in the BCI group received 20 min of MI-BCI training five times a week for 3 weeks (15 sessions) in addition to conventional rehabilitation. The primary outcome measures were the changes in Fugl-Meyer Motor Function Assessment of Upper Extremities (FMA-UE) and Attention Network Test (ANT) from baseline to 3 weeks. RESULTS: About 93% of the patients completed the allocated training. Compared with the CR group, among those in the BCI group, FMA-UE was increased by 8.0 points (95%CI, 5.0 to 10.0; P < 0.001). Alert network response time (32.4ms; 95%CI, 58.4 to 85.6; P < 0.001), orienting network response (5.6ms; 95%CI, 29.8 to 55.8; P = 0.010), and corrects number (8.0; 95%CI, 17.0 to 28.0; P < 0.001) also increased in the BCI group compared with the CR group. Additionally, the executive control network response time (- 105.9ms; 95%CI, - 68.3 to - 23.6; P = 0.002), the total average response time (- 244.8ms; 95%CI, - 155.8 to - 66.2; P = 0.002), and total time (- 122.0ms; 95%CI, - 80.0 to - 35.0; P = 0.001) were reduced in the BCI group compared with the CR group. CONCLUSION: MI-BCI combined with conventional rehabilitation training could better enhance upper limb motor function and attention in stroke patients. This training method may be feasible and suitable for individuals with stroke. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry with Portal Number ChiCTR2100050430(27/08/2021).

RESUMO

Efficient and sustainable methods for 99TcO4- removal from acidic nuclear waste streams, contaminated water, and highly alkaline tank wastes are highly sought after. Herein, we demonstrate that ionic covalent organic polymers (iCOPs) possessing imidazolium-N+ nanotraps allow the selective adsorption of 99TcO4- under wide-ranging pH conditions. In particular, we show that the binding affinity of the cationic nanotraps toward 99TcO4- can be modulated by tuning the local environment around the nanotraps through a halogenation strategy, thereby enabling universal pH 99TcO4- removal. A parent iCOP-1 possessing imidazolium-N+ nanotraps showed fast kinetics (reaching adsorption equilibrium in 1 min), a high adsorption capacity (up to 1434.1 ± 24.6 mg/g), and exceptional selectivity for 99TcO4- and ReO4- (nonradioactive analogue of 99TcO4-) removal in contaminated water. By introducing F groups near the imidazolium-N+ nanotrap sites (iCOP-2), a ReO4- removal efficiency over 58% was achieved in 60 min in 3 M HNO3 solution. Further, introduction of larger Br groups near the imidazolium-N+ binding sites (iCOP-3) imparted a pronounced steric effect, resulting in exceptional adsorption performance for 99TcO4- under super alkaline conditions and from low-activity waste streams at US legacy Hanford nuclear sites. The halogenation strategy reported herein guides the task-specific design of functional adsorbents for 99TcO4- removal and other applications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Antimicrobial susceptibility tests (ASTs) are pivotal tools for detecting and combating infections caused by multidrug-resistant rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) but are time-consuming and labor-intensive. DESIGN: We used a Mycobacterium abscessus-based RGM model to develop a rapid (24-h) AST from the beginning of the strain culture, the Clinical Antimicrobials Susceptibility Test Ramanometry for RGM (CAST-R-RGM). The ASTs obtained for 21 clarithromycin (CLA)-treated and 18 linezolid (LZD)-treated RGM isolates. RESULTS: CAST-R-RGM employs D2O-probed Raman microspectroscopy to monitor RGM metabolic activity, while also revealing bacterial antimicrobial drug resistance mechanisms. The results of clarithromycin (CLA)-treated and linezolid (LZD)-treated RGM isolates exhibited 90% and 83% categorical agreement, respectively, with conventional AST results of the same isolates. Furthermore, comparisons of time- and concentration-dependent Raman results between CLA- and LZD-treated RGM strains revealed distinct metabolic profiles after 48-h and 72-h drug treatments, despite similar profiles obtained for both drugs after 24-h treatments. CONCLUSIONS: Ultimately, the rapid, accurate, and low-cost CAST-R-RGM assay offers advantages over conventional culture-based ASTs that warrant its use as a tool for improving patient treatment outcomes and revealing bacterial drug resistance mechanisms.

RESUMO

Hypergraph is the model of relations lying in clusters of objects. Identifying vital nodes is a fundamental problem in the analysis of the hypergraph. To reflect the multilayer feature of the hypergraph, in this paper, we deconstruct the hypergraph into a simplicial complex and analyze the homological dual relations of boundary and coboundary between simplices. For clarity, these two relations are summarized into a bidirectional graph, called the simplicial diagram, which provides a global framework for the exploration of the hypergraph. To determine the node importance in the hypergraph, we propose a parameter-free eigenvector centrality for weighted hypergraphs in terms of a simplicial complex, named Simplicial DualRank centrality. For each simplex, we define two indices of importance, the inner centrality and the outer centrality. Inner centrality transmits according to the relation of coboundary, which converts to outer centrality at the hyperlinks; in duality, outer centrality transmits according to the relation of boundary, which converts to inner centrality at the nodes. Therefore, a circuit of centrality is constructed on the simplicial diagram, the steady state of which defines the Simplicial DualRank centrality of all the simplices in the hypergraph. Moreover, we apply the Simplicial DualRank centrality to weighted complex networks, which results in a variant of the classical eigenvector centrality. Finally, experimental results in a science collaboration dataset show that the Simplicial DualRank can identify Nobel laureates from the prize-winning papers in Physics, top scientists should select collaborators more carefully to maintain their research quality, and scholars tend to find relatively effective collaborations in their future research.

RESUMO

A new SEK15-derived polyketide compound, strepolyketide D (1), was isolated from salt-lake-derived Streptomyces sp. DBC5, together with two known analogues (2-3). Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis of IR, MS, 1 D and 2 D NMR. Compound 2 elicited moderate antioxidation with IC50 value of 39.26 µg/ml. The results of the study revealed that salt-lake actinomycetes of Lake Dabancheng appear to have immense potential as a source of polyketide compounds.

RESUMO

Optimizing the electronic structure of covalent organic framework (COF) photocatalysts is essential for maximizing photocatalytic activity. Herein, we report an isoreticular family of multivariate COFs containing chromenoquinoline rings in the COF structure and electron-donating or withdrawing groups in the pores. Intramolecular donor-acceptor (D-A) interactions in the COFs allowed tuning of local charge distributions and charge carrier separation under visible light irradiation, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic performance. By optimizing the optoelectronic properties of the COFs, a photocatalytic uranium extraction efficiency of 8.02 mg/g/day was achieved using a nitro-functionalized multicomponent COF in natural seawater, exceeding the performance of all COFs reported to date. Results demonstrate an effective design strategy towards high-activity COF photocatalysts with intramolecular D-A structures not easily accessible using traditional synthetic approaches.

RESUMO

Evidence on the relationship between periodic limb movements during sleep (PLMS) and cerebral small vessel disease is lacking. This study aimed to assess the association between the PLMS index and the neuroimaging features of cerebral small vessel disease on magnetic resonance imaging. Consecutive patients diagnosed with cerebral small vessel disease were enrolled. Data on the clinical characteristics, polysomnography, and brain magnetic resonance imaging were collected. The Accubrain software was used to calculate automatically the volume of white matter hyperintensities, the number of lacunar infarctions, and cerebral microbleeds. The severity of white matter hyperintensities, enlarged basal ganglia perivascular spaces, and the total cerebral small vessel disease scores were also rated visually using semiquantitative scales. The severity of PLMS was measured using the PLMS index, and the patients were divided into two groups using an established cut-off value of ≥15 per hour. Logistic regression was used to examine the association between PLMS and the neuroimaging features of cerebral small vessel disease. In total, 37 patients were included in the final analyses. The mean age was 66.49 ± 11.31 years, and 73.0% were males. The mean PLMS index was 19.30 ± 10.18. In univariate analyses, it was found that patients with cerebral small vessel disease with a PLMS index ≥15 had increased enlarged basal ganglia perivascular spaces (OR 6.136, 95%CI 1.101-34.214) and increased total cerebral small vessel disease scores (OR 6.0, 95%CI 1.253-28.742). Only the association between the PLMS index and the total cerebral small vessel disease burden score remained statistically significant after adjusting for age, sex, and the presence of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. In conclusion, an elevated PLMS index is likely to be associated with a greater cerebral small vessel disease burden. PLMS might be a novel potential marker of cerebral small vessel disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Several studies suggested that depression was associated with poor prognosis following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in coronary heart disease (CHD), whereas other studies showed that there were no associations between depression and poor outcomes. OBJECTIVES: Considering these problems, this meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between depression and clinical outcomes after PCI. METHODS: Articles published before July 2021 were analyzed from the databases: PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Medline, and Google Scholar. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed to generate a pooled effect size and 95% CI with a random or fixed effects model. Q test and I2 were used to assess heterogeneities between studies. RESULTS: The meta-analysis indicated that depression was associated with a higher risk of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after PCI with a random effects model (HR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.33-2.68, I2 = 57.0%, p = 0.023). The study indicated that depression was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality after PCI with a fixed effects model (HR = 1.71, 95% CI: 1.43-2.05, I2 = 0.0%, p = 0.756). The study indicated no significant association between depression and risk of repeat revascularization after PCI with a random effects model (HR = 2.10, 95% CI: 0.96-4.58, I2 = 68.9%, p = 0.022). CONCLUSION: Results indicated that depression is associated with adverse clinical outcomes in CHD patients' post-PCI. Appropriate mental health check and psychological treatment may be necessary for the prognosis of CHD patients who receive PCI.

RESUMO

Fungicides containing active ingredients of boscalid and pyraclostrobin have been widely applied in watermelon disease control. To provide data for avoiding health hazards caused by fungicides, we investigated its terminal residues and evaluated the dietary risk. In this work, watermelon samples were collected from field sites in six provinces and analyzed with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The average recoveries of boscalid and pyraclostrobin in the watermelon matrix were 97-108% and 93-103%, respectively, with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ≤ 9.1%. The limits of quantifications (LOQs) were 0.01 and 0.005 mg/kg for boscalid and pyraclostrobin. Twenty-one days after applying the test pesticide with 270 g a.i./ha, the terminal residues of boscalid and pyraclostrobin were all below 0.05 mg/kg and below the maximum residue limits (MRLs) recommended by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). According to the national estimated daily intake (NEDI), the risk quotients (RQs) of boscalid and pyraclostrobin were 48.4% and 62.6%, respectively. That indicated the pesticide evaluated in watermelon exhibited a low dietary risk to consumers. All data provide a reference for the MRL establishment of boscalid in watermelon for China.

RESUMO

In this study, a method, based on an ultraperformance liquid chromatography coupled with high-field quadrupole orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-HF-HRMS) platform, was established for the trace determination of three major avenanthramides (AVNs). The MS conditions for determining the AVNs were optimized, and the cracking methods of avenanthramides were analyzed. The linear range of the results and the correlation coefficient were 1−2000 µg/L and >0.996, respectively. Further, the established method was employed for the determination of the AVN contents of oats at different germination times, and the results indicated that the AVN contents of Zaohua and Bayou oats increased 19.26 and 6.09 times, respectively, after germination. The total AVN content of both oat varieties reached a maximum on the fifth day of germination (153.51 ± 4.08 and 126.30 ± 3.33 µg/g for the Zaohua and Bayou oats, respectively). Furthermore, this study investigated the antiallergic and antioxidant activities of the germinated oats via hyaluronidase inhibition and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)-scavenging assays. The antiallergic and DPPH-scavenging abilities of the ungerminated forms of both oat varieties were weaker. However, on the fifth day of germination, the inhibition rate of anthranilamide hyaluronidase reached 72.7% and 67.3% for the Zaohua and Bayou oat varieties, respectively. The antiallergic abilities of the oats increased significantly on the fifth day of germination in terms of their antiallergic capacities and DPPH clearance (82.67% and 77.64% for the Zaohua and Bayou oats, respectively), and the two indicators exhibited similar trends. These findings demonstrated that AVNs exhibit good antisensitivity and antioxidation properties, and the antisensitivity effect correlated positively with the AVN content.

RESUMO

We explored the effect of baicalein on the ferroptosis of melanocytes in vitiligo. Melanocytes were treated with single RSL3 or combined RSL3 with FAC for 24 h and the effect of baicalein on RSL3 toxicity was further evaluated. Cell viability was examined by CCK8 assay. The mitochondrial membrane potential and the level of iron ion were measured by assay kit. Intracellular and lipid ROS production was detected by flow cytometry. The results indicated that RSL3 induced cell death, mitochondrial dysfunction, ROS production, and iron ion accumulation in melanocytes, which was aggravated by the addition of FAC. The damage induced by RSL3 was significantly relieved by baicalein treatment. Besides, baicalein up-regulated GPX4 and reduced TFR1 level in melanocytes treated with RSL3+FAC. Baicalein protected melanocytes against ferroptosis through up-regulating GPX4. Ferroptosis might be pervasive in the occurrence and development of vitiligo, and could be proposed as the potential therapeutic target.

RESUMO

The fungicides epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin have been widely used to control wheat fusarium head blight. This study was designed to investigate the dissipation behaviors in different climate regions and provide data for the modification of maximum residue limits of the two fungicides. Wheat samples were collected from field sites in twelve different regions, China and analyzed with an HPLC-MS/MS method for simultaneous detection of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in wheat. The average recoveries of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in wheat matrix were 87-112% and 85-102%, respectively, with the relative standard deviations ≤8.1%. The limits of quantification of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in grain and straw were both 0.01 mg/kg. The dissipations of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin followed first-order kinetics, with the half-lives of 10.3 days and 7.6 days, respectively. The terminal residues of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin in grain were below 0.034 and 0.028 mg/kg, separately, both lower than the maximum residue limits recommended by China. Based on Chinese dietary pattern and terminal residue distributions, the risk quotients of epoxiconazole and pyraclostrobin were 13.9% and 65.9%, respectively, revealing the evaluated wheat exhibited an acceptably low dietary risk to consumers.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: There is a primary muscular affection in spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA). Myoglobin (Myo) is mainly distributed in the myocardium and skeletal muscle. The purpose of the study was to explore the significance of serum Myo detection in the diagnosis and clinical evaluation of SBMA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, serum creatine kinase (CK), Myo, and Troponin T (cTNT) levels were assessed in 80 patients with SBMA and were compared with those of 60 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). All measurement data were analyzed using the t-test and enumeration data using the χ2-test. RESULTS: The rate of abnormal Myo levels in the SBMA group was 100%, however, none of the patients with ALS had an abnormal Myo level. There was no overlap between the two groups. The Myo levels in patients with SBMA were correlated with the course of the disease. Further, their CK level was significantly elevated compared with that in patients with ALS, however, there was an overlap between the two groups. The serum cTNT level in patients with SBMA was not significantly different from that in patients with ALS. CONCLUSION: Myo, as a simple, inexpensive, and readily available biochemical indicator, is likely to be used for the differentiation between SBMA and ALS, and used as a new biomarker for the clinical evaluation of SBMA.

The chemical fungicide fludioxonil is widely used to control post-harvest fungal disease in cherries. This study was implemented to investigate the dissipation behaviours and residues of fludioxonil on cherries. A reliable and efficient analytical method was established. Cherry samples from four product areas were analyzed by QuEChERS and HPLC-MS/MS methods with acceptable linearity (R2 > 0.99), accuracy (recoveries of 81-94%), and precision (relative standard deviation of 2.5-11.9%). The limits of quantification (LOQs) and limits of detection (LODs) of cherries were 0.01 mg/kg and 0.005 mg/kg. The dissipation of fludioxonil on cherries followed first order kinetics with half-lives of 33.7-44.7 days. The terminal residues of fludioxonil were all lower than 5.00 mg/kg, which is the MRL recommended by the European Commission. According to Chinese dietary patterns and terminal residue distributions, the risk quotient (RQs) of fludioxonil was 0.61%, revealing that the evaluated cherries exhibited an acceptably low dietary risk to consumers.

RESUMO

Coumarin is widely used in personal care products and pharmaceutical industry, which leads to the release of this compound into environment as an emerging contaminant. Here, a promising strain USTB-Z for biodegrading coumarin was successfully isolated from botanical soil and characterized as a potential novel Pseudomonas sp. based on 16S rDNA sequence analysis and orthologous average nucleotide identity tool. Initial coumarin up to 800 mg/L could be completely removed by USTB-Z within 48 h at the optimal culture conditions of pH 7.3 and 30 °C, which indicates that USTB-Z has a strong capacity in coumarin biodegradation. The biodegradation products of coumarin were further investigated using HPLC and Q-TOF LC/MS, and melilotic acid and 2,3-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid were identified. The draft genome of strain USTB-Z was sequenced by Illumina NovaSeq, and 21 CDSs for NAD (P)-dependent oxidoreductase, 43 CDSs for hydrolase, 1 CDS for FAD-depend monooxygenase, 1 CDS for 3-hydroxycinnamic acid hydroxylase, 21 CDSs for dioxygenase, and 5 CDSs for fumarylacetoacetate (FAA) hydrolase were annotated and correlated to coumarin biodegradation. The present study provides a theoretical basis and microbial resource for further research on the coumarin biodegradation.
