ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out on 10 parent chickens flocks collected from different provinces. The examined cases were classified into 47 commercial layers and 198 broiler parents to study the gross and microscopical lesions of different tumors induced by avian leukosis subgroup-J [ALV-J] in broiler breeders and layers flocks. Serological tests were conducted on 245 serum samples to detect the antibodies of ALV-J. Polymerase chain reaction PCR was carried out on tissue samples to confirm the presence of DNA of ALV subgroup J. Myeloid leukosis was recorded in four broiler flocks induced by the novel sub group-J of ALV. Pathological findings of infected parent chickens flocks revealed multiple neoplastic nodules in different organs including liver, kidney, gonads, intestine, skeletal muscle and bone. Histologically, the main constituent of tumor lesions was mature and immature myelocytes. Nephroblastoma was considered as the first recorded cases in Egyptian broiler parent flocks affected with ALV subgroup J. The results of this work concluded that the histopathological examination plays a crucial and decisive role in diagnosing different types of neoplasm caused by avian leukosis virus subgroup-J. The application of PCR test verified the presence of DNA of ALV-J that induced the tumors of myeloid leukosis

ABSTRACT

Thermal behaviour of tetracycline hydrochloride, oxytetracycline dihydrate, Co [II] and Ni [II] complexes of tetracycline and Zn [II] complexes of some cephalosporin antibiotics, namely cephalexin, cephapirin, cefuroxime, and ceftazidime was studied using thermogravimetric analysis [TG]. The TG curves exhibit several thermal events indicating that the thermal decomposition of these compounds are not simple. The kinetic parameters for steps appropriate for kinetic analysis were evaluated making use of the Coats-Redfern equation. During the thermal decomposition of tetracycline hydrochloride anhydro tetracycline was proposed to be formed as an intermediate due to the elimination of water

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of social skills training versus a problem solving approach on symptoms and social adjustment among schizophrenic outpatients. The sample consisted of 30 schizophrenic patients, 15 subjects were randomly recruited to be subjected to the social skills training and the other 15 patients were assigned to a problem solving group. Three tools were used; sociodemographic medical data sheet, positive and negative syndrome scale [PANSS] and social adjustment scale II [SAS II]. The findings of this study provided a strong evidence that both social skills and problem solving training were helpful. The patients showed an improvement on virtually PANSS measure of symptomatology and social adjustment

ABSTRACT

The ultrastructure of the epithelial lining of the small intestine of Tilapia nilotica was studied using transmission electron microscopy. The surface epithelium comprised 4 cell types: absorptive, goblet, clear and enteroendocrine cells. The absorptive enterocytes represented the predominant cell type. They were cylindrical in shape and their luminal plasmalemmae were thrown into symmetrical parallel microvilli from which microfilamentous bundles extended to the underlying terminal web zone. The latter, showed organelle-paucity and it contained pinocytotic vesicles emanating from the intermicrovillar spaces. The supranuclear cytoplasm, subjacent to the terminal web, was rich in mitochondria, ribosomes, profiles of endoplasmic reticulum and vesicular elements. The nucleus occupied the middle or the lower third of the cell and it exhibited a highly euchromatic character. The infranuclear cytoplasm was particularly rich in mitochondria and some electron-dense microbodies. The goblet cells were insinuated amongst the absorptive ones but their luminal surfaces were devoid of microvilli. Abundance of membrane-bounded granules of different electron-density and peripheral profiles of rough endoplasmic reticula were characterising such cells. The clear cells were always situated near the basal membrane but not reaching the luminal surface. The intravesicular fat droplets were a consistent feature in such organelle-deficient cells, the endocrine cells were cylindrical in shape, with their bases resting on the basal lamina and apeces reaching the lumen. Their cytoplasm was packed with spherical granules of different electron-density
