ABSTRACT

Objective:In the context of strengthening joint research and development projects between hospitals and innovative enterprises (referred to as hospital-enterprise joint R&D), we studied the role of focused and systematic integrated management strategies in facilitating the implementation of joint R&D projects between hospitals and enterprises, and to continuously improve project management capabilities. Methods:This study analyzed the basic data of a grade A tertiary hospital in Beijing before and after the systematic optimization of the hospital-enterprise joint R&D project management strategy, including the differences in project quantity, quality, funding level, collaborators, type, and duration to analyze the significance of optimizing management strategy to improve project management capabilities. Results:Compared with the period before the optimization of management strategy, the number of joint R&D projects and the total amount of R&D funding by medical enterprises increased year by year, and the proportion of high-investment and high-level projects was getting higher and higher. At the same time, the subject of cooperation showed a diversified development trend, and the core position of hospitals in the R&D process became increasingly obvious. The proportion of investigator-initiated innovation research exceeded 69% in all 3 years. Management efficiency improved significantly, the proportion of project approval within two weeks. Conclusions:The development of all-around process management measures and integrated promotion and implementation of hospital-enterprise joint R&D are effective in guaranteeing the efficiency and quality of projects. However, the amount and results of high-quality innovative projects are still relatively small and disorganized, and the process of project management also has shortcomings. There is still a long way for researchers to further explore and improve the support platform and guarantee mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

Objective:This paper aims to promote the standardization of ethics review of horizontal scientific research projects and improve the ethics review quality by analyzing the current ethics review practice in a certain tertiary hospital, identifying common problems during the review process, illustrating relevant causes and proposing corresponding solutions. Methods:Through introducing the current situation of ethics review of horizontal scientific research projects in a tertiary level hospital, the differences between the main points of ethics review of horizontal scientific research projects and government-funded scientific research projects were analyzed, so as to sort out the common problems and possible causes in the process of ethics review of horizontal scientific research projects, and then explore the possible corresponding solutions. Results:Based on the characteristics of horizontal research projects, ethics review should focus on their scientific and social values, potential conflicts of interest, protection of subjects′ rights and interests, and whole-process management and quality assurance. At present, there are still many problems, such as a large number of projects, but not many projects with high research value, inadequate project process management, and ineffective implementation of ethics review opinions. Conclusions:The hospital should further improve the management system of horizontal scientific research project approval, bring in more comprehensive review regarding to both scientific and ethics review, engage more experts at the outset of project funding decision-making, set up ethics specialists, strengthen the process management of horizontal scientific research projects, strengthen ethical publicity and education, and improve the ethical awareness of researchers to fully protect the rights and interests of subjects and promote the high-quality development of clinical research.

ABSTRACT

Only a small number of people may develop severe alcoholic liver disease after continuous or excessive drinking, which is different from the harm caused by smoking, and some people may even develop alcoholic liver disease associated with inflammation, liver cirrhosis, or primary liver cancer. There are complex risk factors for liver injury in these people; besides ethnic and genetic factors, drinking volume, and drinking duration, more important factors are involved in the pathophysiological changes of the liver, such as the type and quality of alcohol, drinking pattern, socioeconomic status, and government public policy, which may be the determining factors for the development of alcoholic liver disease. On the basis of literature review, this article proposes the concept that "liquor does not equal to alcohol" , which has important guiding significance for healthy drinking and the prevention of alcoholic liver disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the relative value of individual positions in the functional departments of a general hospital in Beijing, for reference of improving the salary allocation system and fine management of human resources. Methods The expert consultation method and International Position Evaluation system were used to quantitatively assess the tasks, work difficulty, size of responsibility and the qualifications required for every. Results A total of 38 experts contributed to this research which studied 140 positions including all functional departments of this hospital. The department having the most positions is the finance department(17)and the least is the Youth League committee(1).The position scoring the highest(805)was the director of medical affairs department;that scoring the lowest(263)was the food and beverage service positions of the diet and nutrition department. There was an evident turning point at score 547.Conclusions Functional departments′ position setting of this hospital proves reasonable, and the assessment scoring can reflect the value of the position in related dimensions. The result can be used as reference indexes for the hospital to perfect its human resource management system and improve the remuneration precision.

ABSTRACT

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered the manifestation of metabolic syndrome (MS) in the liver. Besides glucose and lipid metabolic disorders, the level of serum uric acid (SUA) is also associated with the progression of NAFLD. This article reviews the research achievements in the association between SUA and NAFLD and points out that SUA can independently predict the risks of MS, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease in both healthy people and patients. Its mechanism may be that SUA increases the expression of reactive oxygen species (ROS)/thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) through inducing ROS, and then it activates the NLR pyrin domain containing 3 inflammasome and induces the secretion of interleukin. Both basic and clinical research show that the drugs reducing SUA can inhibit the TXNIP pathway, reduce the blood glucose level, and alleviate liver ROS, inflammation, steatosis, and fibrosis. This article suggests that SUA may be a promising therapeutic method for NAFLD and needs further basic and clinical research.
