ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH)diagnosed by Peguero-Lo-Presti index and recurrence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation(AF)after radiofrequency ablation. Methods A total of 652 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation who underwent radiofrequency ablation were selected.According to Peguero-Lo-Presti index, patients were divided into the LVH group(167 cases)and the normal left ventricle group(485 cases).Baseline data were collected, and regular follow-up was performed at 3,6 and 12 months after radiofrequency catheter ablation. The recurrence of AF was assessed.Kaplan-Meier survival curve was used to analyze the recurrence rate of AF in the two groups.Cox proportional hazard model was used to assess risk factors for recurrent atrial fibrillation. Results The median follow-up time was 20.5(15.0,26.0)months.A total of 155 patients(23.8%)developed recurrence of AF,including 95 patients in the LVH group and 60 patients in the LVN group. The recurrence rate without AF was significantly lower in the LVH group than that in the LVN group(64.1%vs.80.4%,Log-rank χ2=26.361,P<0.01).After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, cardiac dysfunction, left anteroposterior and posterior atrial diameter, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter, and left ventricular ejection fraction,LVH diagnosed by Peguero-Lo-Presti index was still a risk factor for recurrent AF[HR(95%CI):2.359(1.663-3.345),P<0.01].Conclusion In patients with paroxysmal AF,LVH diagnosed by Peguero-Lo-Presti index is a risk factor of AF recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation.

ABSTRACT

Objective Adsorption effect of dietary fibers from seaweeds on extrinsic estrogens was studied. Methods The methods included the tests in vivo and in vitro which simulated environments of stomach and small intestine of rat. Results The adsorption effect of four kinds of dietary fibers on estradiol in simulated environments of small intestine was better than that in simulated environments of stomach. The effect of Laminaria japonica was the best. And the rate of adsorption on estradiol was 108 g?g~ -1.It is 1.5,1.8, 3.1, and 3.0 times that of Sargassum, wheat blan,Gracilaria and Eucheuma, respectively. The rates of adsorption on estradiol of four kinds of dietary fibers from Gracilaria, Eucheuma, Sargassum and laminaria japonica was 11.1%,13.6%,27.5% and 38.7%, respectively. Adsorption rate of Sargassum and laminaria japonica was 1.9 and 1.3 times than that of wheat bran, respectiveiy which was 20.4%. While for Gracilaria and Eucheuma, adsorption rate was lower than that of wheat bran. Conclusion The dietary fibers from four seaweeds showed adsorption effect on extrinsic estrogens. The dietary fibers from brown seaweeds (Sargassum and laminaria japonica) had more adsorption effect than that of red seaweeds (Gracilaria and Eucheuma).

ABSTRACT

Objectives: To clarify the antiarrhythmia mechanism of matrine by observing its effects on intracellular calcium concentration in cultured myocardial cells of SD rats. Methods: Myocardial cells of newborn(sucking) rats were fed with culture medium supplemented with verapamil、 potassium chloride and different dose of matrine, respectively. By means of the image analysis system, intensity changes of intracellular calcium were determined with the fluorescent probe to estimate indirectly inward calcium influx under the influence of matrine. Results: It was found that high potassium caused an increase in fluorescent intensity of intracellular calcium which could be inhibited by matrine. Conclusion: It is suggested that matrine may be a kind of calcium antagonium producing its antiarrhythmic action.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The autoantibodies against ?_1-adrenergic receptor that was found in patients with malignant hypertension, primary hypertension and refractory hypertension has the agonist activity liked the NE, and may play a role in hypertension. In this paper, the effects of this antibody on vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation and its mechanism were to be studied. METHODS: The cultured rat VSMC proliferation induced by the antibodies against ?_1- adrenergic receptor that was purified by the immune affinity chromatography, was measured by the BrdU cell proliferation assay and cell cycle distribution. The expression of c-jun and c-fos were determined by RT-PCR and Western blotting. RESULTS: Compared to the normal IgG, the antibodies against ?_1-adrenergic receptor promoted the VSMC proliferation and increased the mRNA and protein expression of the c-jun significantly. The role was similar to the norepinephrine, and all was blocked by prazosin, while the mRNA and protein expression of c-fos were not affected by the antibodies. CONCLUSION: The antibodies against ?_1-adrenergic receptor promote the rat VSMC proliferation, and increase the expression of c-jun, which maybe play a role in the vascular remodeling in hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Objective:The nutritional value and edible safety were evaluated for fastfood Eucheuma. Methods:The nutritional composition and the contents of heavy metal element and microbiology index were tested, and the test of acute toxicity and mutation were performed to evaluate the nutritional value and edible safety. Results:The main components of fastfood Eucheuma were dietary fibre and mineral components, and the contents of protein and fat were very low. The gross content of dietary fibre was 88.6%. The contents of Zn and Ca were the highest among the mineral components. The index of heavy metal elements and microbes(cfu) were lower than that of the national standard. It was non-toxic and non-mutagenic. Conclusion:The fastfood Eucheuma is a functional food, and also a safe food of new resource.
