ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the relationship between activated glia cells in distal segment of the spinal cord and widespread pain. Methods Fifty female rats were randomly divided into sham group, the chronic constriction injury of the infraorbital nerve(CCI-ION)group,CCI-ION+minocycline(Mino)group,CCI-ION+L-2-aminoadipic acid(LAA)group, and CCI-ION+normal saline(NS)group,n=10 for each group.CCI-ION model was established and Mino,LAA,and normal saline were delivered intrathecally to CCI-ION rats.Immunofluorescence staining was used to detect activated astrocytes and microglia in the medulla oblongata, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal cord segments. On the 7th,14th,21st,28th day,von Frey filaments were used to evaluate the mechanical withdrawal threshold of vibrissa pad,and electronic von Frey tactile pain meter was used to measure the mechanical withdrawal threshold of front paw, chest and hind paw.The radiant thermal stimulator was used to measure the thermal withdrawal threshold of hind paw. Results After intrathecal injection of Mino to inhibit microglia, the activated microglia in each spinal cord segment decreased. Moreover, inhibiting astrocytes by using LAA significantly reduced activated astrocytes in spinal dorsal horn from distal segments.Behavioral assay showed that after intrathecal injection of Mino and LAA,the mechanical allodynia of vibrissa pad in CCI-ION rats was relieved. However, there was no significant difference(P>0.05)in the thermal and mechanical withdrawal thresholds in the hind paw of CCI-ION rats after intrathecal injection of Mino, while intrathecal injection of LAA significantly increased the thermal and mechanical withdrawal thresholds in the hind paw, indicating the relief of widespread pain induced by CCI-ION.Conclusion The activated astrocytes in distal segments of the spinal cord mediated CCI-ION-induced widespread pain.

ABSTRACT

Background The novel coronavirus infection is widespread in the world, resulting in more pneumoconiosis patients complicated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Objective To understand the clinical characteristics and prognosis of hospitalized COVID-19 patients complicated with or without pneumoconiosis. Methods A total of 36 COVID-19 patients admitted to the Shandong Provincial Occupational Disease Hospital from 10 December to 31 December 2022 were selected, including 21 cases in the complication group (pneumoconiosis complicated with COVID-19) and 15 cases in the COVID-19 group without pneumoconiosis. Symptoms, signs, laboratory test results(e.g. routine blood test), imaging findings, treatment plans and prognosis of the two groups were observed and compared. Results Regarding symptoms and signs in the complication group and the COVID-19 group, the proportions of dyspnea (57.14% vs 0.00%), lung wheezing (28.57% vs 0.00%), wet rales (76.19% vs 33.30%), and fever (61.90% vs 93.33%) were significantly different (P<0.05). Compared with the COVID-19 group, the level of D-dimer in the complication group was significantly increased [2.340 (1.0, 6.5) mg·L−1 vs 0.250 (0.2, 0.4) mg·L−1] (P<0.01), the serum sodium level was decreased [(138.10±2.68) mmol·L−1 vs (140.47±2.27) mmol·L−1] (P<0.05). In terms of drug treatment and prognosis, there were statistically significant differences in the proportion of antiviral drugs (19.00% vs 80.00%), glucocorticoids (38.10% vs 80.00%), and anticoagulants (28.60% vs 0.00%) between the complication group and the COVID-19 group (P<0.05). Compared with the COVID-19 group, the cure rate of the complication group (90.50% vs 100.00%) showed no statistical difference. However, there were 2 deaths in the complication group. Conclusion Patients with pneumoconiosis complicated with COVID-19 have less fever and more dyspnea, wheezing, and wet rales. The increase of plasma D-dimer is a potential predictor in patients with pneumoconiosis complicated with COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Objectives:To observe the repair effect of AKE/GB30 mesh cage loaded with naringin in spinal bone defect model, and explore the mechanism of this biomaterial based on bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)signal pathway. Methods:A dental drill was used to make a 7mmx5mmx4mm spinal bone defect model between L5 and L6 vertebrae in 30 New Zealand male rabbits, and AKE/GB30 mesh cages were prepared. The biomechanical properties of AKE/GB30 mesh cages loaded with naringin were tested, and their in vitro drug release behavior was measured.New Zealand rabbits that were successfully modeled were randomly divided into three groups using a randomly digital table method, namely, blank group, autologous bone graft group, and bone graft biomaterial+naringin combined group.Except the blank group, autologous bone transplantation and AKE/GB30 mesh cage loaded with naringin were used for repair. At 6 weeks and 12 weeks after surgery,5 rabbits were taken from each group, and the bone repair status[including bone volume/tissue volume(BV/TV),bone trabecular thickness(Tb.Th)and bone trabecular number(Tb.N)]were detected by micro computed tomography(Micro CD.Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)was used to detect the expressions of bone morphogenetic protein 2(BMP2),VEGF,Runt related transcription factor 2(RUNX2),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),and osteocalcin(OCN)messenger ribonucleic acid(mRNA).Immunoblotting assay(WB)was used to detect the expressions of BMP2,VEGF,RUNX2,ALP,and OCN proteins in bone tissues.Results:AKE/GB30 mesh cages had been successfully manufactured, and its characteristic testing results met the requirements for repairing spinal bone defects. The AKE/GB30 mesh cage loaded with naringin had a maximum compressive strength of 28MPa and a maximum resistance pressure of 15N.At 6 weeks, its cumulative release rate reached(98.15±1.47)%.After 12 weeks, the BV/TV,Tb.Th,and Tb.N,as well as the mRNA and protein expressions of BMP2,VEGF,RUNX2,ALP,and OCN in bone tissues of each group were higher than those after 6 weeks(P<0.05).The above indicators in the autologous bone graft group and the bone graft biomaterial+naringin combined group were higher than those in the blank group(P<0.05),and there were no significant differences in the above indicators between the autologous bone graft group and the bone graft biomaterial+naringin combined group(P>0.05).Conclusions:The effect of AKE/GB30 cage loaded with naringin in repairing spinal bone defect models is equivalent to that of autologous bone graft, which is presumed to achieve by promoting the expressions of BMP2,VEGF,RUNX2,ALP,and OCN.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the distribution and characteristics of lymphatic vessels in normal and injured mouse spinal cord, and to determine if lymphatic vessels participate in the repair of spinal cord injury. Methods Thirty-nine adult male KM mice were divided randomly into a normal group(n=6)and an injured group(n=33).Mice in the injured group were further divided randomly into mice examined on postoperative days 1,3,5,7,and 14.Three mice in the injury group died after acupuncture injury, and the sample was subsequently supplemented randomly.Spinal cord damage was induced in the injured group by acupuncture, while mice in the normal group had no spinal cord damage. The distribution of lymphatic endothelial cells(LECs)in the spinal cord was detected by immunohistochemistry, and expression levels of the lymphatic endothelial cell markers prospero-related homobox-1(prox-1),lymphatic vessel endothelial cell hyaluronic acid receptor-1(lyve-1),and flat foot protein(podoplanin),and the vascular endothelial cell marker CD34 were observed in the spinal cords in normal and acupuncture-injured mice.Spinal cord samples were examined by immunofluorescence staining, and the source of new LECs was explored by observing the co-expression of lyve-1/prox-1,lyve-1/podoplanin,and CD34/prox-1.Results Lymphangioid structures were present in the spinal cord in normal mice and were distributed in segments, laterally between the white matter and gray matter.Nascent lymphangioid-like structures appeared in the spinal cord at the site of acupuncture injury, and prox-1,podoplanin,lyve-1,and CD34 were expressed simultaneously;however, these nascent lymphangioid-like structures disappeared after scarring during spinal cord injury. Conclusions Segmental, transversely distributed lymphangioid-like structures are present in the spinal cord in normal adult mice, and neonatal lymphangioid-like structures are involved in the reconstruction of spinal cord injury. These nascent LECs may originate from the surrounding existing lymphatic vessels or from vascular endothelial cells.

ABSTRACT

The key pathogenesis of coronary heart disease (CHD) is spleen deficiency and phlegm stasis, and dysfunctional high-density lipoprotein (dys-HDL) may be the biological basis for the occurrence of CHD due to spleen deficiency and phlegm stasis. Considering the biological properties and effects of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), it is believed that the structure and components of HDL are abnormal in the state of spleen deficiency which led to dys-HDL; and dys-HDL contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques through two major pathways, namely, mediating the dysfunction of endothelial cells and mediating the foaminess of macrophages and smooth muscle cells, thus triggering the development of CHD. It is also believed that dys-HDL is a microcosmic manifestation and a pathological product of spleen deficiency, and spleen deficiency makes foundation for the production of dys-HDL; dys-HDL is also an important biological basis for the phlegm-stasis interactions in CHD. The method of fortifying spleen, resolving phlegm, and dispelling stasis, is proposed as an important principle in the treatment of CHD by traditional Chinese medicine, which can achieve the therapeutic purpose by affecting the changes in the structure and components of dys-HDL, thus revealing the scientific connotation of this method, and providing ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of CHD by traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To describe the current situation of leisure time physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep duration of children and adolescents aged 6-14 in Beijing, and provide a reference basis for guiding school age children to carry out reasonable physical activities and formulating effective intervention measures.@*Methods@#A multistage stratified cluster random sampling method was used to investigate the nutritional and health status of 3 460 students in the first, third, fifth and seventh grades. Through the questionnaire surveys, the basic information of children and families and the activity information of children physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep were collected and statistically analyzed.@*Results@#The results showed that the median time of children daily leisure time physical activity (LTPA) was 20.0 (8.6, 38.6) min, children in suburb areas (18.6 min) and seventh grade (14.3 min) had shorter LTPA time( Z/H =5.12,119.11, P <0.01). The average daily sleep duration of children was (8.71 ± 0.76) h, the proportion of school age children with insufficient sleep reached 54.7%. With an increase in grades, the incidence of insufficient sleep increased significantly ( χ 2=407.13, P <0.01). The median daily sedentary time of children was 195.7(145.0, 255.7 ) min, and 84.5% of children engaged in more than two hours of sedentary behavior every day. Urban (202.9 min) and obese children (210.4 min) had longer sedentary behavior time, and with the increase in grade, the daily sedentary behavior time of children gradually increased ( Z/H =5.04,14.83,637.98, P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#Children and adolescents aged 6-14 years in Beijing have less LTPA time, too much sedentary time, and insufficient sleep duration. Grade is an important factor affecting physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep duration of children, and body shape may be related to their sedentary behavior and sleep time.It is suggested that targeted policies should be adopted for children of different grades to increase their physical activity and reduce their sedentary behavior to promote their healthy development.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the cardiovascular health status of adults in China by using the "Life's Essential 8" score, and provide reference for the development and improvement of cardiovascular disease prevention and control policies and measures. Methods: Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance was conducted in 298 counties/districts in 2015 in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) across China, multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling was used to select 45 households in each village or neighborhood, and 20 households were further selected to conduct dietary surveys. In this study, a total of 70 093 adults aged ≥20 years who completed the dietary survey and had complete information were included, their cardiovascular health status were assessed by using the "Life's Essential 8" score, a cardiovascular health scoring standard released by the American Heart Association in 2022. All results were adjusted using complex design-based sampling weights to achieve a better estimate of the population. Results: In 2015, the overall cardiovascular health score of Chinese adults aged ≥20 years was 73.3±12.6, the score was significantly higher in women (77.9±11.6) than in men (68.7±11.8), and higher in urban area (74.5±12.8) than in rural area (71.9±12.2), the differences were significant (P<0.001). It was estimated that about 0.25% (95%CI: 0.16%-0.33%) of adults in China had cardiovascular health score of 100, and 33.0% (95%CI: 31.6%-34.3%), 63.2% (95%CI: 62.1%-64.3%), and 3.9% (95%CI: 3.5%-4.2%) of adults had high, moderate and low cardiovascular health scores, respectively. The proportion of those with high cardiovascular health scores was relatively low in men, those with low education level, those with low income, those living in rural areas, and those living in southwest China (P<0.001). Of the eight factors, diet had the lowest mean score (46.0, 95%CI: 44.7-47.3), followed by blood pressure (59.4, 95%CI: 58.2-60.6) and tobacco exposure (61.4, 95%CI: 60.6-62.2). Conclusions: The cardiovascular health status of two-thirds of adult population in China needs to be improved. Diet, tobacco exposure, and blood pressure are the factors affecting the cardiovascular health of Chinese population, to which close attention needs to be paid, and men, rural residents, and those with lower socioeconomic status are key groups in cardiovascular health promotion.

ABSTRACT

Childhood obesity is a global public health problem, which can not only endangers children's health, but also might be an important cause of chronic diseases in adulthood. In recent years, with the in-depth development of precision medicine research, more and more research evidences have shown that there are interactions between environmental factors, such as early intrauterine environment, children's diet, physical activity and children's gene factor on the incidence of childhood obesity, which can result in or inhibit the incidence and development of childhood obesity. This paper summarizes the progress in research in this field to reveal the effects and potential mechanisms of genetic factors and environmental factors on the incidence of childhood obesity in order to provide reference for the precise prevention and control of childhood obesity under different genetic backgrounds.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Reports on the prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) among Chinese patients with psoriasis are very limited. This study, conducted by rheumatologists, estimated the prevalence of PsA in a large number of Chinese patients with psoriasis.@*METHODS@#Consecutive patients with a confirmed diagnosis of psoriasis attending nine dermatology clinics in five hospitals were recruited. All psoriasis patients were asked to complete a questionnaire comprising 16 questions to identify possible cases of PsA. All patients with one or more positive answers to the questionnaire were evaluated by two experienced rheumatologists.@*RESULTS@#A total of 2434 psoriasis patients, including 1561 males and 873 females, were enrolled. Both the questionnaire and rheumatologists' examinations were completed in the dermatology clinics. The results identified 252 patients with PsA, comprising 168 males and 84 females. The overall prevalence of PsA among psoriasis patients was 10.4% (95% confidence interval [95% CI], 9.1%-11.7%). By sex, the prevalence was 10.8% (95% CI, 9.2%-12.5%) for males and 9.6% (95% CI, 7.7%-11.9%) for females and there was no significant sex difference in the prevalence of PsA (P = 0.38). Of the 252 PsA patients, 125 (49.6%, 95% CI, 41.3%-59.1%) were newly diagnosed by rheumatologists. Consequently, the prevalence of undiagnosed PsA among psoriasis patients was 5.2% (95% CI, 4.4%-6.2%).@*CONCLUSION@#The prevalence of PsA in the Chinese population with psoriasis is about 10.4%, which is almost double that of previous reports in the Chinese population, but lower than that in Caucasians.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, and treatment of one patient with primary adrenal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (PANKTCL), and to strengthen the understanding of this rare type of lymphoma.@*METHODS@#The clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment process, and prognosis of the patient admitted in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed.@*RESULTS@#Combined with pathology, imaging, bone marrow examination, etc, the patient was diagnosed with PANKTCL (CA stage, stage II; PINK-E score 3, high-risk group). Six cycles of "P-GemOx+VP-16" regimen(gemcitabine 1 g/m2 d1 + oxaliplatin 100 mg/m2 d 1 + etoposide 60 mg/m2 d 2-4 + polyethylene glycol conjugated asparaginase 3 750 IU d 5) was performed, and complete response was assessed in 4 cycles. Maintenance therapy with sintilimab was administered after the completion of chemotherapy. Eight months after the complete response, the patient experienced disease recurrence and underwent a total of four courses of chemotherapy, during which hemophagocytic syndrome occurred. The patient died of disease progression 1 month later.@*CONCLUSION@#PANKTCL is rare, relapses easily, and has a worse prognosis. The choice of the "P-GemOx+VP-16" regimen combined with sintilimab help to improve the survival prognosis of patient with non-upper aerodigestive tract natural killer /T-cell lymphoma.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the changes in bacterial flora in fecal samples, at the tumor loci and in adjacent mucosa in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC).@*METHODS@#We collected fecal samples from 13 patients with CRC and 20 healthy individuals and tumor and adjacent mucosa samples from 6 CRC patients. The differences in bacterial composition between the fecal and mucosa samples were analyzed with 16S rDNA sequencing and bioinformatics methods. We also detected the total number of bacteria in the feces using flow cytometry, isolated and identified the microorganisms in the fecal and mucosa samples using common bacterial culture media. We further tested the effects of 7 isolated bacterial strains on apoptosis of 3 CRC cell lines using lactate dehydrogenase detection kit.@*RESULTS@#The bacterial α-diversity in the feces of healthy individuals and in adjacent mucosa of CRC patients was significantly higher than that in the feces and tumor mucosa in CRC patients (P < 0.05). Lactobacillaceae is a specific bacteria in the feces, while Escherichia, Enterococcus, and Fusobacterium are specific bacteria in tumor mucosa of CRC patients as compared with healthy individuals. Cell experiment with3 CRC cell lines showed that Bacteroides fragilis isolated from the tumor mucosa of CRC patients produced significant inhibitory effects on cell proliferation (P < 0.0001), while the isolated strain Fusobacterium nucleatum obviously promoted the proliferation of the cell lines (P < 0.001).@*CONCLUSION@#The bacterial flora in the feces, tumor mucosa and adjacent mucosa of CRC patients is significantly different from that in the feces of healthy individuals, and the fecal flora of CRC patients can not represent the specific flora of the tumor mucosa. Inhibition of F. nucleatum colonization in the tumor mucosa and promoting B. fragilis colonization may prove beneficial for CRC treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the development of auditory speech perception and spatial hearing abilities within one year after cochlear implantation in preschool prelingual deaf children and the relationship between the two abilities. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed 31 preschool children with an average age of (2.3±1.2) years. All cases were assessed at pre-implant, 6 months and 12 months post-implant using the Infant-toddler Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (IT-MAIS), the Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (MAIS) and the Mandarin Early Speech Perception test (MESP) to evaluate their listening and speech perception abilities, and using the Speech,Spatial, and Other Qualities of Hearing Scale for Parents (SSQ-P) questionnaires to evaluate their speech perception and spatial hearing abilities. SPSS 23.0 was used for the statistical analysis. Results: All children performed better at 6 months and 12 months post-implant with IT-MAIS/MAIS, MESP than pre-implant, and the scoring rate continued to improve, with a significant difference (P<0.01). For the SSQ-P (Speech) and SSQ-P (Spatial) scores, the mean scores of pre-implant were (0.9±0.2) points and (0.8±0.3) points, those of 6 months post-implant were (4.6±0.2) and (2.6±0.3), and 12 months post-implant were (6.2±0.2) and (6.3±0.3), the scores of the two groups were significantly different at pre-implant, 6 months and 12 months post-implant (P<0.01). The growth rate of SSQ-P (Spatial) from pre-implant to 12 months post-implant was 675.3%, and the growth rate from 6 months post-implant to 12 months post-implant was 140.6%, the growth rate showed an significant increase compared with IT-MAIS/MAIS, MESP and SSQ-P (Speech).SSQ-P (Speech) and SSQ-P (Spatial) scores were moderate correlation at 12 months post-implant(r=0.465, P=0.008). Conclusions: Within one year after cochlear implantation, listening, speech perception and spatial hearing abilities of preschool prelingual deaf children could show a comprehensive, continuous and significant progress as the implantation time increasing. The growth rate of spatial hearing is greater than that of speech perception at 12 months post-implant, and the spatial hearing could still show rapid development characteristics after 6 months post-implant.

Seventy point four percent (19/27) of the patients had a course within six-month, only 11% was over 12 months (3/27). Symptoms mostly showed as nasal obstruction (88.9%; 24/27), runny nose (81.5%; 22/27), nasal stinks (16/19) and postnasal drip (10/10). Sixty-three percent (17/27) of the OS patients had a dental history. Nasal endoscopic examination revealed a swelling of the ostiomeatal complex (77.8%; 21/27), medial wall interhal displacement of maxillary sinus (55.6%; 15/27), white emulsion-like purulent secretion in the middle meatus (70.4%; 19/27) and nasal polyps (59.3%; 16/27). Etiology of OS included implant-related problems (14.8%; 4/27) and periodontal disease (85.2%; 23/27). Conclusions: OS is usually unilateral sinusitis with a short history. Its clinical features show nasal stinks, white emulsion-like purulent secretion in the middle meatus and imaging findings of unilateral maxillary sinusitis with tooth-related lesions.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand the level and risk factor of lead exposure among children in one city of Jiangsu.@*Methods@#In northern Jiangsu Province, 373 children from 2 primary schools were enrolled and were tested for blood lead and heavy metal exposure. Lead exposure was tested in household dust of 46 children. A multivariate Logistic regression was used for lead exposure risk analysis. Spatial distribution of lead contamination in household dust was conducted and compared with the location of industrial enterprises.@*Results@#The geometric mean of blood lead in 373 children was 25.80 mg/L,the blood lead of 3 children (0.8%) was more than 100 mg/L. Pencil biting ( OR=4.26, 95%CI=1.61-10.68, P <0.05) and lead contamination in surrounding environment ( OR=2.93, 95%CI=1.24-7.34, P =0.02) was positively related to high blood lead level in children. The geometric mean household dust lead concentrations in 46 children was 302.27 μg/mg, and household with high dust lead levels were mainly located around manufacturing enterprises.@*Conclusion@#Environmental factors correlate with blood lead level in children. Efficient strategies and public health policies are urgently needed to control and prevent environmental lead pollution. Families and schools should actively carry out health education to engourage children good hygiene habits, and effectively reduce lead exposure.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the mid-term clinical efficacy and imaging changes of Waveflex semi-rigid internal fixation system combined with posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) in the treatment of double segmental lumbar degenerative diseases. Methods:The data of 51 patients with lumbar degenerative diseases who underwent surgery from September 2014 to September 2015 were retrospectively analyzed, including 29 males and 22 females, aged 65.5±5.6 years (range 58-73 years). Preoperative intervertebral space degeneration grade by University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and Pfirrmann intervertebral disc degeneration grade were recorded. 23 cases of primary responsible segments were treated with decompression, fixation and fusion, and adjacent secondary responsible or degenerative segments were treated with Waveflex semi-rigid internal fixation (combined group); 28 cases of double segments were treated with decompression, fixation and fusion (fusion group). Disc height index (DHI) and intervertebral foramina height (IFH) of the semi-rigid fixation segments, DHI and IFH of the upper adjacent intervertebral space, and horizontal displacement of the upper adjacent vertebral body (HD) were measured on lateral X-ray films of lumbar spine; In the fusion group, DHI and IFH adjacent to the upper vertebral space and HD adjacent to the upper vertebral body were measured. The efficacy was evaluated by short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and Oswestry disability index (ODI).Results:51 cases were followed up for 5.4±0.3 years (range 5.2-6.3 years). The low back and leg pain and function in the combined group and fusion group were significantly improved compared with those before operation. SF-MPQ and ODI at 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were significantly different from those before operation ( P<0.05). In the combined group, the DHI of semi-rigid internal fixation segments before operation and 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were 37.8%±7.6%, 37.9%±7.4%, 36.5%±6.9% and 36.0%±7.1% respectively ( P>0.05); The IFH of semi-rigid internal fixation segments before operation and 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were 21.5±2.8, 21.4±2.8, 20.4±2.7, 19.4±2.4 mm respectively ( P<0.05); The DHI of the upper segment adjacent to semi-rigid internal fixation before operation and 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were 37.1%±9.3%, 36.8%±9.1%, 35.2%±9.1%, 33.9%±8.8% respectively ( P>0.05); The IFH of the upper segment adjacent to semi-rigid internal fixation before operation and 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were 21.9±3.0, 21.4±3.0, 20.4±2.9, 19.5±2.7 mm, respectively ( P<0.05). The HD of upper vertebral body adjacent to semi-rigid internal fixation before operation and 3 months, 1 year, 5 years after operation were 2.2±0.7, 2.3±0.5, 2.5±0.5, 2.8±0.5 mm respectively ( P<0.05). At the last follow-up, one case of semi-rigid titanium rod fracture, one case of screw loosening at semi-rigid internal fixation segment, three cases with unsatisfied numbness relief, and 2 cases of facet joint spontaneous fusion at semi-rigid fixation segment occurred in the combined group. Conclusion:Waveflex semi-rigid internal fixation can protect the degenerative lumbar intervertebral disc, and delay the degeneration of semi-rigid internal fixation segment and adjacent upper segment after interbody fusion, but long-term follow-up and study are needed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the relationship between effect of induction chemotherapy and prognosis in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients.@*METHODS@#The clinical data of 146 adult AML patients treated in Affiliated Hospital of Chifeng University from March 2015 to March 2018 were enrolled and retrospectively analyzed. Day 14 bone marrow biopsy (D14BM) cellularity and blast proportion, daily peripheral blood blast (PBB) clearance rate, time to PBB clearance and etc. were primarily observed after induction chemotherapy. All the patients were divided into Non-relapse survival group, Relapse survival group, Non-relapse death group and Relapse death group according to survival and recurrence situation during 2-year follow-up. The survival of the patients was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier. Univariate analysis of prognostic factors were performed by ordinal Logistic regression, and ROC curve was used to assess the prediction efficiency of those factors for the 2-year overall survival (OS) and relapse of the patients.@*RESULTS@#A total of 138 patients were included since 8 cases failed to be assessed clinically. Their 2-year OS rate was 65.94%. Age of the patients in Non-relapse survival group was lower than that in Relapse death group. The D14BM cellularities in Non-relapse survival group and Relapse survival group were lower than those in Relapse death group (P10%, while it was higher in patients with daily PBB clearance rate >20% than those with clearance rate≤20% (P0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Bone marrow biopsy results and PBB clearance rate are related to prognosis in AML patients, which can offer certain predictive value in assessing 2-year OS of patients.

ABSTRACT

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) has been reported to be related to Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Porphyromonas gingivalis peptidylarginine deiminase (PPAD), a virulence factor released by P. gingivalis, is known to induce inflammatory responses. To explore the pathological relationships between PPAD and UC, we used homologous recombination technology to construct a P. gingivalis strain in which the PPAD gene was deleted (Δppad) and a Δppad strain in which the PPAD gene was restored (comΔppad). C57BL/6 mice were orally gavaged with saline, P. gingivalis, Δppad, or comΔppad twice a week for the entire 40 days (days 0-40), and then, UC was induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) solution for 10 days (days 31-40). P. gingivalis and comΔppad exacerbated DDS-induced colitis, which was determined by assessing the parameters of colon length, disease activity index, and histological activity index, but Δppad failed to exacerbate DDS-induced colitis. Flow cytometry and ELISA revealed that compared with Δppad, P. gingivalis, and comΔppad increased T helper 17 (Th17) cell numbers and interleukin (IL)-17 production but decreased regulatory T cells (Tregs) numbers and IL-10 production in the spleens of mice with UC. We also cocultured P. gingivalis, Δppad, or comΔppad with T lymphocytes in vitro and found that P. gingivalis and comΔppad significantly increased Th17 cell numbers and decreased Treg cell numbers. Immunofluorescence staining of colon tissue paraffin sections also confirmed these results. The results suggested that P. gingivalis exacerbated the severity of UC in part via PPAD.
