ABSTRACT

This article had as objective the evaluation of the flexibility of spinal movements in individuals with fibromyalgia who were attended as outpatients in the city of Juiz de Fora / MG. An comparative analytical cross-sectional study was carried out, whose convenience sample consisted of 20 female subjects with a mean age of 51.50 ± 10.52 years and a rheumatologic diagnosis of fibromyalgia, excluding individuals with associated comorbidities. All volunteer individuals were in follow-up at the Rheumatology Outpatient Clinic of Hospital and Maternity Terezinha de Jesus (HMTJ) located in the city of Juiz de Fora / MG. Data were collected between February and June 2018. As a result, it was verified that individuals with fibromyalgia presented significant loss of range of motion in the cervical and thoracolumbar spine compared to individuals without fibromyalgia. Regarding the Schöber index, it was observed that women with fibromyalgia had a result of 12.28 ± 1.48 cm, indicating a great loss of the lumbosacral spine flexibility compared to women without fibromyalgia that resulted in 14,17 ± 1,90 cm. It was concluded that differences in spinal flexibility between individuals with fibromyalgia and control subjects were statistically significant, with the need for further studies of individuals with fibromyalgia followed up as outpatients.
