ABSTRACT

There have been many stud-ies that show the benefi cial eff ects of its consumption and the use ofits components in different presentations. In the international literature there are no reports of clinical cases of the dermatologic area treated with formulations on the basis of berries. The following review will present evidences supporting that berries components and its actions can exert potencially healthy effects.

ABSTRACT

Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin that usually appears as a solitary, violaceous, dome-shaped nodule or indurated plaque in a sun exposed area of elderly patients. Histopathologic diagnosis may be difficult because of histologic and immunohistochemical similarities with metastatic small cell lung carcinomas, lymphomas, and other cutaneous neoplasms. Distinction from poorly differentiated oat cell primary tumors or metastasis requires immunohistochemical analysis. Cytokeratin 20 is a sensitive and specific marker for Merkel cell carcinoma and is helpful in distinguishing this tumor among other malignant and benign neoplasms. We report two cases with this diagnosis seen at our department and a brief report of the literature.

ABSTRACT

Mites that affect animals (acariasis) can occasionally be transmitted to humans by incidental contact producing pruritus and dermatitis. Animals such as dogs, cats, mice, birds and reptiles, harbour several mite species. Hemophage mites and those that feed on lymph have the potential of transmitting important zoonotic agents (cuales??). The presence of lesions of unclear origin and a history of contact with pets or wild animals should alert towards the possibility of acariasis. Diagnosis is based on direct visualization of the mite, analysis of its morphology and obtaining information on the animal host. Awareness of these acarosis and the responsible care of pets and animals are the most relevant preventive measures.

ABSTRACT

Superficial angiomyxoma are rare benign tumors with variable clinical presentations. They are located preferably in the trunk, limbs, and head and neck region. Histological diagnosis is relatively simple because there are specific features for this lesion. Superficial angiomyxomas may be a marker of cardiac myxomas and simultaneously be associated with Carney’s complex, so it is always important to consider this as a differential diagnosis. Treatment is surgical excision, with high probability of local recurrence, so post surgical follow-up is extremely important. We present the case of a male patient, 60 years old, with a preauricular superficial angiomyxoma with neither clinical nor radiological evidence of Carney’s complex components.

ABSTRACT

Trichoepithelioma is a benign neoformation differentiated from the hair follicle, clinical manifestations can be solitary, multiple or desmoplastic lesions. Histologically, it is not easy to differentiate from basal cell carcinoma. We report the case of a 28-year-old woman, and short review.

ABSTRACT

We report the clinical case of a 12 year-old healthy pediatric patient with a history of allergic contact dermatitis to nickel. He presented a papular symmetrical scarlatiniform rash after a gunshot impact partially withdrawn that began mainly in folds, which generalized to the rest of the body. We performed high-resolution ultrasonography in the impact area showing multiple small particles around a fibrous scar. The skin biopsy was consistent with systemic contact dermatitis, and immunofluorescence resulted negative. He was treated with prednisone for 5days and anti-TNF antihistamines with good results. Nickel contact dermatitis is common in clinical practice, but systemic contact dermatitis is less frequent and even less because of a foreign body, although it has already been described. The Baboon syndrome is a aculopapularitchy rash that begins in folds and then generalizes, one of its etiologies is nickel, it should be a type IV hypersensitivity that resolves spontaneously without scars.
