ABSTRACT

A sex education and reproductive health services program was done. The aim was to assist adolescents in acquiring a broader perception of their sexuality, with an emphasis on the relationship between sexuality and other developmental areas. For two years, teachers of two schools in Santiago, implemented the program in their classes (n 1994=2511; n 1995=2238) with the students and their parents. CEMERA staffed counseling offices in both schools. The professionals provided support to school teachers in the program activities and also counseling services to students. Some students were referred to CEMERA's clinical reproductive health services. In the participating schools, three surveys of studentsa were conducted: a baseline survey, prior to the intervention, an interim survey at the end of the first year of intervention, and a final end line survey, at the end of the second year of the program's implementation. Three control schools (n 1994=1736; n 1995=1916), similar in composition to the experimental ones, were also included in the baseline and end line surveys
