ABSTRACT

Medicated jelly formulations are patient friendly dosage form for pediatric, geriatric and dysphagic patients. These formulations offer rapid dissolution and absorption of drugs through oral mucosa therefore show the early onset of action. The objective of the study was to develop and evaluate oral jelly formulations of vitamin C. Slurry method was adopted using glucose 103gm, sugar 67gm, gelatin 10gm and sorbitol 6.56gm. Preformulation studies were performed including the organoleptic profile, pH, and solubility of both drugs. The medicated jelly of Vitamin C was prepared and evaluated for physical characteristics, weight variation, syneresis, pH, taste and palatability, drug content, release rate characteristics and stability studies. All the jellies were found to have patient welcoming taste and were palatable. All formulations showed more than 50% drug release within 15 minutes, while 93% drug was released in 30 minutes. The results of release kinetics showed that the formulation followed the zero order release kinetics. Thus the drug was released at constant rate independent of the drug concentration involved in the process. All the medicated jellies were found to remain stable stored for 60 days at different temperatures. The present study revealed that medicated jellies of vitamin C could be employed orally in an effective form as an alternative solid oral dosage form for special population such as pediatrics, geriatrics and patients with dysphagia

ABSTRACT

Head and Neck [HN] cancer is the most frequently identified cancer across the globe and is considered as 8-10 % of all cancers in Southeast Asia. The social and cultural habits are the main cause of the remarkable increase in HN cancer in Pakistan. HN cancers are more prevalent in men as compared to women. The HN cancer in Pakistan is mainly attributed to discrete demographic profile, risk elements, eating patterns and family history. The foremost factors of risk are linked with cigarette smoking, alcoholic drinks and tobacco chewing like paan, gutka, etc. The actual burden of HN cancer in Pakistan is 18.74% of all new cancer cases recorded during 2004 -2014. The data is collected from HN cancer patients who are diagnosed from September 2011 till May 2012 in the Institute of Nuclear medicine and Oncology, Lahore Pakistan. In order to diagnose risk factors of HN cancer, the Logistic Regression [LR] and Linear Discriminant Analysis [LDA] are used as analytical tools. The findings of using these both tools concluded that gender, age, occupation, socioeconomic status, family history, chewing habits, smoking habit, worked in the chemical or dust place, alcohol use are main causes for HN cancer. ABSTRACT

Sesame [Sesamum indicum L.] varieties [white and black] were analysed for their proximate composition, amino acid content and nutritive value. Crude protein in these varieties ranged from 20.6 to 24.5% while crude fat varied from 52.2 to 54.2%. Amino acid composition of both varieties were somewhat similar. Sesame white variety showed and NPU, T. D. and B. V., value of 54, 87 and 62 as compared to value of 51, 83 and 61 for sesame black variety
