ABSTRACT

Primary central nervous system T-cell lymphomas (PCNSTL) are rare, the clinical symptoms and radiographic imaging of which are unspecific, and the pathological morphology is antypical, leading to misdiagnosis and delays in treatment. A 45-year-old male patient with diplopia accompanied by numbness and dysarthria was reported in this paper, which was considered as "lymphoma or lymphoproliferative lesions" on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) while no typical tumor cells in brain biopsy. The clinical symptoms worsened one month later and the reexamined MRI showed that the scope of the lesion was enlarged and the enhancement was more obvious than before, which was still considered as lymphoma or lymphoproliferative lesion. The second biopsy was performed and still no typical tumor lymphocytes were seen. Finally, gene rearrangement was carried out and showed the β and γ chains both present positive mutations in T cell receptor (TCR) gene rearrangement. Combined with cell morphology, immunophenotype and TCR gene rearrangement results, the patient was finally diagnosed as PCNSTL. This article reviewed the clinical symptoms, imaging features, laboratory examinations, pathological characteristics, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of PCNSTL, so as to improve the understanding of this rare disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the impact of additional cycles of temozolomide on the survival of glio-blastoma(GBM)patients after 6 months of maintenance temozolomide(TMZ)following concurrent TMZ chemo-therapy and radiation therapy. Methods Data of 51 GBM patients from 2009 to 2015 were retrospectively studied and the therapeutic effect was assessed according to whether receiving long-term treatment with TMZ. Results Sev-enteen of fifty-one GBM patients received 8 or more cycles and prolonged treatment improved progression-free sur-vival(P=0.011)and overall survival(P=0.004). Conclusions Extended use of TMZ is safe to GBM patients , which may improve response OS and PFS compared to conventional regimen. Prospective studies in larger popula-tions are needed to better-define the population to whom it can be proposed and its optimal duration.

ABSTRACT

Objective To report and summarize the improvement of diagnosis and treatment of male pseudohermaphroditism. Methods Among the 21 cases (mean age of 13 years, range from 6 to 31 years),19 were socially female sex and 2 were male sex.Visual clinical examination indicated abnormal external genitalia, lumps on both sides of inguina or labia majora pudendi.Genetic examination showed that the sex chromosome karyotypes of all cases were 46,XY.Before operation diagnoses were established in 20 cases by blood biochemistry,B-ultrasound and CT examination with misdiagnosis in only 1 case. Results All the 21 cases received operation.Female features were retained in 19 cases and male features in 2.Of them 15 cases were followed up for 3 to 8 years.Of the 15 cases 14 were treated by hormone replacement (oral stilbestrol)with obvious improvement of secondary sexual character.Of the 14 cases 11 had normal prepuberal physical development. The appearances of the external genitalia were satisfactory. One patient who maintained male sex had obvious growth of breasts during puberty. Conclusions Early diagnosis and treatment are very important to the therapeutic effects and the life quality of the patients. It is suggested that operation of maintaining female sex can be preferred as treatment of choice for male pseudohermaphroditism.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of Nicked-Titanium Shape-Memory alloy net-like stent in the treatment of high risk patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia Methods 35 high risk patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were treated with Nicked-Titanium Shape-Memory alloy net-like stent from 1995 to 1998. The results were analyzed retrospectirely. Results 34 cases of the disease were treated successfully at the first session, 30 of whom could urinate immediately after treated. 4 patients had a normal urination in 3 days after operation, the total efficacy rate being 97.1% (34/35). Conclusions The present study shows that Nickel-Titanium Shape-Memory alloy net-like stent for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia is a safe, efficient and ideal method. The long term efficacy of the stent is in progress.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the etiologic factors of chronic prostatitis following sexually transmitted urethritis. Methods The pathogens have been detected in 86 patients with chronic prostatitis following sexually transmitted urethritis. Results 57 strains (66.3%) of bacteria were cultured in expressed prostatic secretions(EPS) from 86 patients,in which gonococcus was the majority of cultures, accounting for 38.4%. Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), ureaplasma urialyticum (UU) and gonococcus were also detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in expressed prostatic secretions,25.6%(22/86), 22.0%(19/86),and 43.0%(37/86) showed positive results respectively. Conclusions Gonococcus, chlamydia trachomatis and ureaplasma urialyticum were the main pathogens of chronic prostatitis. The results indicate that pathogen examination plays an important role in treatment of chronic prostatitis following sexually transmitted urethritis.
