ABSTRACT

Objective: To discuss the effects of acupuncture plus Tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage) in intervening the mental development, motor function, cerebral hemodynamics, and muscle tone in kids with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 87 kids with spastic CP. They were divided into a control group and an observation group based on their original treatment plan. Kids in the control group received symptomatic treatment, motor development therapy, and Tuina treatment. The observation group was additionally given acupuncture treatment. One month was taken as a treatment course. After six courses, the efficacy, change in muscle tone, mental development, gross motor function, fine motor function, and the systolic velocity (Vs), mean velocity (Vm), and pulsatility index (PI) of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA), middle cerebral artery (MCA), and posterior cerebral artery (PCA) were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the muscle tone score dropped in both groups (P<0.05) and was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). The observation group achieved more significant efficacy than the control group (P<0.05). After the intervention, the mental development index (MDI), psychomotor development index (PDI), gross motor function measure (GMFM) score, and fine motor function measure (FMFM) score all increased in both groups (P<0.05) and were notably higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the Vs and Vm of the ACA, MCA, and PCA were markedly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05), and the observation group was significantly lower than the control group comparing the PI of the ACA, MCA, and PCA (P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on the symptomatic treatment and motor development therapy, Tuina and acupuncture treatment can effectively treat spastic CP children, manifesting as reducing muscle tone, boosting mental development, and improving motor function and cerebral hemodynamics.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the expression of endoplasmic reticulum lipid raft-associated protein 2 (ERLIN2) in glioblastoma tissues, and to analyze its correlation with the clinicopathological features and prognosis of patients with glioblastoma. Methods:The TCGA database was used to analyze the expression level of ERLIN2 mRNA in glioblastoma. KM-plotter was used to analyze the correlation between ERLIN2 expression and prognosis in patients with glioblastoma. The expression level of ERLIN2 protein in 78 cases of glioblastoma tissue was determined by immunohistochemical staining, and then the tissue samples were divided into high expression and low expression groups according to the ERLIN2 expression level. The clinical and pathological data of patients were collected, including age, gender, tumor laterality, recurrence, isocitrate dehydrogenase(IDH) mutation, and the correlation between ERLIN2 protein and clinicopathological characteristics was further analyzed. Results:The mRNA of ERLIN2 was significantly overexpressed in glioblastoma, and the overall survival rate of patients with high ERLIN2 expression was low, suggesting a poor prognosis. The results of immunohistochemistry and clinicopathological analysis showed that ERLIN2 protein was significantly overexpressed in glioblastoma, and its expression level was significantly related to tumor recurrence.Conclusions:ERLIN2 protein is significantly overexpressed in glioblastoma tissues, and its expression level is related to the clinicopathological characteristics and poor prognosis, suggesting that ERLIN2 can be used as a potential prognostic factor for glioblastoma.

ABSTRACT

The intubation of conventional transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probes into patients causes serious esophagus irritation, and thus the use of TEE probes in pediatric practice is limited. In this study,we aimed at the development of a special probe which could be inserted through the nasopharyngeal cavity into the esophagus to obtain the same high-quality echocardiography images as those obtained by conventional TEE and improve patients' experience.During the examination, the patients felt relaxed for a longer time and cooperated with the sonographers in the process of cardiac catheterization conducted in the surgery room or the intensive care unit (ICU),resulting in improved accuracy of the diagnosis and timely administration of appropriate treatment. Two years ago,Prof.Xin-fang WANG put theories into practice by inserting the probe through the nasal cavity and pharynx into the esophagus of volunteers to successfully detect the heart and great vessels at the retrocardiac space.Later,Prof.Ming-xing XIE performed the transnasal TEE examination in 12 atrial septal defect (ASD) patients and proved the safety and reliability of this method, which could become a new way for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

ABSTRACT

Purpose We investigated the characteristics and management of patients with intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube. Materials and Methods Between July 2007 and July 2013, 4148 patients with urolithiasis underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in our hospital. Intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube occurred in two of these patients. Another patient with intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube, who underwent PCNL in another hospital, was transferred to our hospital. The data of the three patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results The incidence of intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube following PCNL was 0.5% (2/4148) at our hospital. A solitary kidney was present in one of the three patients. The tip of tube was located into the inferior vena cava (IVC) in two patients and into the renal vein in one patient. All three patients were successfully managed with strict bed rest, intravenous antibiotics and one-step (one patient) or two-step (two patients) tube withdrawal under close monitoring. None of the patients underwent antithrombotic therapy. The original operations were performed successfully under close observation in two patients and changed to another operation in one patient. All patients were discharged uneventfully. Conclusions The incidence of intravenous misplacement of a nephrostomy tube following PCNL is 0.5% at our hospital. Intravenous nephrostomy tube misplacement is an uncommon complication of PCNL. A solitary kidney may render patients susceptible to this complication. Most patients may be managed conservatively with strict bed rest, intravenous antibiotics and one-step or two-step tube withdrawal under close monitoring. .

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the therapeutic action of earth enteral nutrition after jejunum interposition in patients with carcinoma of gastric cardia. Methods: Sixty-two patients after jejunum interposition were divided into early enteral nutrition group(n=33) and parenteral alimentation group(n=29).The clinical observation index and nutrition index were compared between the two groups. Results: The enteral nutrition group had more advantages than the parenteral alimentation group in the aspects of clinical observation index postoperative complication and nutrition index. Conclusion: Early enteral nutrition could improve gastrointestinal function and nutritional state and decrease the incidence rate of postoperative complication.
