ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to determine the developmental pattern of swing speed in youth baseball players between 6 and 14 years old. A total of 1213 baseball players performed toss batting. Swing speed was measured with a specialized accelerometer. In addition, 618 of the 1213 players were measured for total fat free mass by using Inbody770. In study1, Regression analysis was performed on the relationship between chronological age or height and swing speed, and the extreme values were calculated. Then, an allometric equation based on height was also used to estimate the relative growth of swing speed and total fat free mass and to compare the difference of relative growth patterns between swing speed and total fat free mass in study2. Swing speed was strongly related to both chronological age and height, with cubic regression for the relationship with chronological age and linear for the relationship with height. The regression equation obtained for chronological age was solved and found that developmental rate was maximal at approximately 10.25 years old. Allometric analysis showed that the developmental pattern of swing speed differed from that of fat free mass, with a temporary decline in developmental rate from 153.6 cm to 160.9 cm. Based on the results of this study, further research in youth baseball players would be expected to identify the factors causing sluggish development of swing speed as well as to develop an exercise program for improving batting ability.

ABSTRACT

Availing of the phenomenological method, this study aims to describe the experience of "hitting bottom" among recovering alcoholics. In-depth interviews were conducted with five men and three women who belong to the Alcoholic Anonymous community. These individuals were selected through a maximum variation sampling procedure. The results demonstrate that, due to the accumulation of critical events, in "hitting bottom" an alcoholic becomes aware of his/her existential ruin, is questioned for his/her life, feels a desire to change course, desists from the road toward self-destruction, seeks help, experiences feelings of hope and liberation, and begins a process of rebirth and transformation that leads him/her to stop drinking and therefore to a healthier life. Such an experience involves enormous suffering, precedes the process of recovery from alcoholism whereto it seems to be necessary.

ABSTRACT

Background: Recovery of maternal milk source is an urgent matter of many mothers in the breast feeding duration. Spinal hitting method of Nguyen Tham Tan has been applied on a lot of women lacked milk after giving birth but until now, there has not any resrearch on the method. Objectives: 1. To assess lactation effect resulting from spinal hitting method. 2. To evaluated effects of the method on milk quality and the concentration of prolactine in blood. Subjects and methods: 33 mothers who are lack milk after giving birth have been hit at points on their spine as follows: CS, C6, D2, L2-L3. These patients were treated during 15 days with one time a day, hitting duration of every time - 15 minutes. The study used open clinical method in comparison with the obtaining effects between pre and post reproducing. Results: Amount of breast milk per minute increases from 1.52ml \xb10.37ml (before treatment) to 2.20\xb10.42ml (after treatment). Number of children's feeding decreases and the concentrations of protein, lipid and glucose as well as vital elements in milk increase after treatment. The concentration of prolactine in blood increases from 2755.16m\xb5/ml (before treatment) to 3763.16m\xb5/ml (after treatment). Conclusion: Spinal hitting method has the effects of lactation, increase in prolactine concentration in bloods and positive effects on milk quality. \r\n", u'\r\n', u'\r\n', u'
