ABSTRACT

[Objective]To construct the inspection model to provide reference for clinical inspection and other related diagnosis and treatment, based on Lingshu·Twenty-Five People of Yin and Yang.[Methods]This paper examined the model and fundamental theory of the Twenty-five Kinds of Yin-Yang People,as well as"five upper"main components of their color, physique, spirit, physiological constitution and pathological constitution characteristics, etc.,and analyzed the subtypes of the ritual, physique, color, and Qi and blood characteristics.[Results]It is thought that the philosophy is founded on Twenty-five People of Yin and Yang theory, which may judge the five elements of the human body and define the traits of the five elements, and this kind of classification method is a deep concern for the complexity of the human physiological and pathological physique, thus building a thorough and complete physiological and pathological physique identification standard system. Moreover,it has all the elements corresponding to the requirements of holistic diagnosis, such as appearance, color, physique and posture, which can be systematically recognized and applied as the theoretical precursor of clinical diagnosis.[Conclusion]If the method of looking at the body is connected to this strict structure system, the clinical looking at the body can be carried out more systematically and accurately, and even the whole clinical diagnosis and treatment activities, which is of great significance to further improve and develop the clinical diagnosis and treatment system of traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To sort out and summarize the theory of nourishing Yin of ZHU Danxi and ZHANG Jingyue, and discuss the similarities and differences of two doctors'understanding of Yin deficiency and the treatment method of nourishing Yin.[Methods]Through the research method of documentics, this paper carefully studies the contents related to"Yin deficiency"in the major works of ZHU Danxi and ZHANG Jingyue,as well as relevant literature reports and analyzes the similarities and differences of the theory of nourishing Yin,classification of Yin deficiency and the treatment method of nourishing Yin between them.[Results]ZHU Danxi's treatment of Yin deficiency syndrome was based on the theory of"an excess of Yang with deficiency of Yin""ministerial fire(Xianghuo)".He took the hyperactivity of ministerial fire as the main pathogenesis of Yin deficiency syndrome. In the treatment method,he paid attention to reducing fire, and made good use of the bitter and cold products such as Anemarrhenae Rhizoma(Zhimu)and Cortex Phellodendri(Huangbai),and paid equal attention to nourishing Yin and reducing fire.ZHANG Jingyue,on the basis of the theory that"Yin and Yang are one"and"true Yin was the foundation of Yang Qi",believed that the deficiency of true Yin can lead to Yin deficiency and Yang deficiency, and proposed that Yin deficiency had two aspects:water deficiency in Yin and fire deficiency in Yin.In the treatment method, nourishing true Yin by the sweet and warm medicines such as Radix Rehmanniae Preparata(Shudihuang)was emphasized, and Yin Yang mutual aid was advocated.[Conclusion]Whether it is the thought of nourishing Yin or the specific treatment and prescription,ZHANG Jingyue inherited and made a breakthrough on ZHU Danxi. He further improved the theory of nourishing Yin and the theory of warm-recuperation in traditional Chinese medicine, and created a series of prescriptions based on nourishing true Yin.It is of great significance to study the similarities and differences of their thought, theory, clinical symptoms and treatment for sorting out the development context of the treatment method of nourishing Yin.

ABSTRACT

The syndrome differentiation of Yin and Yang has the function of controlling the other six principles in the eight principles syndrome differentiation, which is a higher level or general induction of the disease. In the clinical process of traditional Chinese medicine, syndrome differentiation of Yin and Yang runs through the whole process of disease diagnosis and treatment. For Parkinson's disease, syndrome differentiation of Yin and Yang is particularly important. Different symptoms, the transformation of pathogenesis during the development of the disease and the treatment of traditional Chinese and western medicine all reflect the characteristics of Yin and Yang opposition restriction, mutual root and mutual use,and the transformation of ebb and flow. This article discusses the background, application and value of Yin-Yang syndrome differentiation from three aspects:the origin and application of yin-yang syndrome differentiation, the basis of Parkinson's disease syndrome differentiation, and the status and role of Yin-Yang syndrome differentiation in Parkinson's disease. It is of great significance to guide the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease with "Yin-Yang as the key point".

ABSTRACT

"Balance between yin and yang, the spirit is treated"means the best health state of the human body. The theory of yin and yang is the foundation of TCM theory, and the key to the treatment of chronic skin diseases is to regulate yin and yang. The key to the balance of yin and yang lies in the sufficiency of yang-qi.Sufficient yang-qi can guarantee the defense outside is solid and dense. The healthy-qi inside can avoid the invasion of pathogenesis. The invisible pathogenesis is difficult to transform into tangible pathogenesis. In the clinical syndromes,it has been found that the lack of yang-qi is one of the important reasons for the occurrence and development of skin diseases.By warming yang and dispersing pathogenic factors, dissolving muscles and dispelling wind, reconciling nutrient and defense, warming and dissipating cold, clearing heat and detoxifying, nourishing blood and moistening dryness, etc.,the deficiency yang can be warmed, the yang can be concealed, the balance between yin and yang can be achieved, and the diseases can be eliminated.

ABSTRACT

Renying and Cunkou pulse diagnostic method is one of the important parts of the pulse diagnosis in Huangdi Neijing (Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor) and has been controversial since its proposal. This article takes WANG Shu-he's diagnostic operation as the evidence, and is in reference of the statement, "Cun region (the region ahead of Guan region of Cunkou) determines the human life, that on the left hand refers to Renying, while on the right hand is Qikou". The pulse conditions on the left and right hands represent yin and yang. If Renying pulse on the left is greater, the diseases are in yang meridians, while if Cunkou pulse on the right is bustling, the diseases are in yin meridians. By comparing the pulse condition and strength, as well as the pulse beating (rapid and urgent) between Guan region and region ahead of Guan on the same side, the conditions of three yang and three yin meridians are detected. In treatment, based on the records of Renying and Cunkou pulse diagnosis in Huangdi Neijing, the principles are proposed for reinforcing and reducing methods on hand and foot meridians of yin and yang. Five-shu points and yuan-source points are taken as the main acupoints in acupuncture treatment. During treatment, the changes in pulse conditions should be emphasized specifically and those at Renying and Cunkou regions are the criteria for judging qi arrival and qi regulation.

ABSTRACT

For centuries Ramayana has been the centre of contention for the critics with respect to dei?cation of Rama, epitome of virtue and defamation of Ravana, the king of the darkest kind. Joseph Campbell's de?nition of a Hero resides with a person's heroic quest to achieve something that is beyond himself through his encounter with a challenging enemy and his victorious return. Ravana, the antagonist, underwent a challenging quest and was unconquerable until he was faced with his one tragic ?aw – his lust for Sita. Upon looking through the lens of deconstruction, this abduction doesn't make Ravana the antagonist of the plot but actually a Tragic Hero of Aristotle. This Hamartia of Ravana was not implied by him but was imposed upon him by the circumstances which make him a fallen hero – the Lucifer of Genesis. This paper aims to apply Philip Zimbardo's Lucifer Effect theory to explore Campbell's ideology of heroism with reference to Ravana and also attempts to answer the question whether Ravana is the greatest villain or is he actually a situational victim, who is outshined as a villain by his tragic ?aw intensi?ed by circumstantial pressures

ABSTRACT

Tumor immunotherapy is one of the most significant scientific progresses. The idea of applying the traditional Chinese theory of "the balance of Yin and Yang" to treat cancer is in accordance with that of modern tumor immune strategy. Researches indicated that polysaccharide of Chinese medicine through regulation in immune responses could offer better paradigm for tumor immune treatment under the traditional Chinese theory. However, current studies related to tumor immunotherapy largely focus on the immunity enhancement while lack of the exploration of suppressive factors. Meanwhile, the complex analysis and detection on composition as well as structure definitely increase the difficulty in mechanism of oral absorption and function in vivo. To better exploit novel Chinese medicine of polysaccharide for tumor immune treatment, this article will provide some constructive thoughts on regulation of tumor immune responses based on up to date researches of structure-function relationship, absorbent process and molecular mechanisms responsible for tumor immune as well.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]For revealing the definition of the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver ,and its historical evolution. [Method]The definition of the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver and the mainstream view of Yin and Yang of before the Song Dynasty, Song Dynasty and modern is investigated in this paper. The definition of the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver of different periods, different ideological background and different mainstream view of Yin and Yang is clarified by historical investigation. [Result]Because of the influence of Confucius studies, there is not the definition of the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver based on the object of liver in the TCM theory of Han and Tang dynasties. The Yin of liver and the Yang of liver mainly refer to the yin qi and yang qi in the liver. Because of the influence of neo-confucianism, the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver based on the object of liver was established in the TCM theory of Song and Ming dynasties. The Yin of liver and the Yang of liver mainly refer to the body and function of liver. Under the background of modernization of TCM, the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver based on the object of liver was established in the basic theories of TCM. However, there is a controversy of the concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver, because of the effect of modern philosophy and science, ignoring the change of Chinese philosophy. [Conclusion]The clear concept of the Yin of liver and the Yang of liver of different periods, different ideological background and different mainstream views of Yin and Yang will reduce the influence of the fictional historical. Whether in ancient literature research, the liver like zang-fu theory of TCM theory, research, or the modern liver zang-fu theory of TCM, and establishing the theory of Chinese medicine has a positive meaning.

ABSTRACT

Objective]To summarize and clarify the view on Yin and Yang of Zheng Qin-An ,in order to deepen the study on fire-spirit school. [Method]Read the related works of Chen Xiu-Yuan, Liu Yuan, Zheng Qin ’An, Lu ZhuZhi, etc, as wel as related research papers of modern researchers. Then we summarize the view on Yin and Yang of Zheng Qin-An, as wel as it ’s resources and evolution. [Result] Zheng Qin-An advocated the balance of Yin and Yang, didn’t admire Yang and despise Yin. He also had no preference on Yang aided medicine. Zheng Qin-An ’s view on Yin and Yang mainly was affected by Liu Yuan, and significantly different from Chen Xiu-Yuan. Lu Zhu-Zhi inherited the academic point of view of Zheng Qin-An and made some significant changes. After that, fire-spirit school only emphasized the importance of Yang Qi. Developed to the extreme, some fire-spirit school scholars held that al patients were Yang deficiency and al prescriptions should aid Yang Qi. These views had deviated significantly from its founding fathers. [Conclusion]Zheng Qin-An advocated the balance of Yin and Yang, but his successor ’s only emphasis on the importance of Yang Qi, was contrary to the original intention of Zheng Qin-An.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to observe the clinical effect of acupuncture together with warm acupuncture on fe-male type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome. A total of 92 female T2DM patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome were divided into two groups, which were priority of yin deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang (group 1) and priority of yang deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang (group 2). There were 46 cases in each group. The treatment of acupuncture together with warm acupuncture was given for three month. The observation was made on the fasting plasma glucose (FPG), fasting leptin (FLP), fasting insulin (FINS), insulin sensitivity index (ISI), insulin resistance index (Homa-IR), insulin secre-tion index (Homa-β), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high den-sity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), body mass, body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage (F%) before and af-ter treatment. The results showed that the total effective rate of group 1 was 69.57%, while the total effective rate of group 2 was 84.78%. There was no significant statistical difference between two groups. Compared with pretreatment, there were significant decrease on FLP, FPG, FINS, Homa-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C, body mass, BMI, and F% of both groups after treatment (P < 0.01). There was obvious increase on ISI, Homa-β, and HDL-C (P < 0.01). After treat-ment, the FPG, Homa-β and BMI of group 2 were better than group 1 (P< 0.05). After treatment, the level of LDC-C and HDC-L of both groups reached normal level. And the FPG of group 2 also reached normal level. It was con-cluded that acupuncture together with warm acupuncture can significantly adjust the level of fat-pancreatic islet shaft of T2DM patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome, reduce the leptin resistance and insulin resistance, enhance the sensibility of insulin and the function of pancreatic β cell, and correct the endocrine disorder, gly-cometabolism disorder and lipometabolism disorder. Acupuncture together with warm acupuncture did much better in lowering blood sugar and improving the function of pancreatic β cells of T2DM patients whose priority of yang defi-ciency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang than those whose priority of yin deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang.

ABSTRACT

With that general outlook, the relationship between Y in and Y ang is left and right relationship. Con-scious spirit and primordial spirit are a couple of important concepts in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Firstly, Conscious spirit is the function of the highest part of brain while primordial spirit is the function of the lower-level part of the brain. The function of highest part of brain is represented by the frontal lobe and cerebral cortex. In conclusion, from the development and evolution point of view, conscious spirit is corresponded with post-natal aspects while primordial spirit is corresponded with prenatal aspects. Secondly, conscious spirit is Y ang while primordial spirit is Y in . Motion is Y ang while stillness is Y in . Daytime is Y ang while nighttime is Y in .Conscious spirit is mainly appeared in reaction and daytime. Primordial spirit is mainly appeared in the rest and nighttime. Hot is Y ang while cold is Y in. Primordial spirit is mainly appeared in the sleep and rest when the en-ergy metabolism degrades. Therefore, from the viewpoint of conscious spirit and primordial spirit, the relationship between Y in and Y ang is up and down relationship.

ABSTRACT

The Book of Changes is known as a famous ancient book in China. In the chapter on Copula of this masterpiece the relations among the changes of heaven and earth, movement and stillness, and Qian and Qun have been revealed through adopting "YiXing" and "LiYi", two varieties of schools of Yi (Change). This paper sets out to compare the depiction of Yin and Yang, movement and stillness recorded in the book of the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine with the notions mentioned above. It is also our attempt to discover the same intrinsic principle existed in both Chinese ancient philosophy and Chinese ancient medicine.

ABSTRACT

Since the children were born, their yin-yang balance in their body began.Children’s yin-yang balance is the yang taken a dominant role in yin-yang balance."Shaoyang for the pivot" is the core of "Shaoyang doctrine"theory. It is very proper to explain the children’s yin-yang balance with the state of continuous transporting and changing by the theory of "Shaoyang for the pivot".Along with "mutual promotion of growth between yin and yang",new yin yang balance continuously replace the old one, constructing children’s basic physical characteristic of "full of vigor and vitality, rapid development;viscera is delicate and organs function is not perfect".Meanwhile it is very proper to explain the pathological characteristics "easy incidence, rapid changing;viscera qi clean and full of spiritualism, easy rehabilitation".So "Shaoyang doctrine" can cover "pure yang doctrine" and "immature yin and yang theory".
