ABSTRACT This study aimed to systematically review interventions to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV during breastfeeding. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis using specific criteria to identify randomized controlled trials that focused on pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV and their children from birth to 2 years of age. We extensively searched electronic databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Google Scholar up to October 24, 2023. After screening 3,110 titles and abstracts, we reviewed 306 full texts. Of these, we assessed the quality and risk of bias of fifty-five articles, ultimately identifying seven studies. Four of these studies, which focused on antiretroviral therapy (ART), were included in the meta-analysis. There was little heterogeneity in study methodology and pooled estimates. The postnatal HIV transmission rate was found to be 0.01 (95%CI: 0.00 - 0.02). Therefore, the risk of mother-to-child transmission among breastfeeding mothers with HIV was significantly lower in the intervention groups than in the placebo groups. Analysis of funnel plots and Egger's test (p = 0.589) showed no evidence of publication bias. In addition to the four articles, two studies compared different ART regimens and one study compared the administration of high-dose vitamin A to the mother or the child. The results suggest that the use of ART significantly reduces the risk of postnatal HIV transmission compared with placebo. However, the effectiveness of different ART regimens or other therapies, including high-dose vitamin A, is unclear.

Objective@#To investigate the prevalence of flat feet and associated factors in school aged children in Kunming City, to provide evidence supporting the prevention of flat feet.@*Methods@#From December 2021 to February 2022, 4 444 children aged 7-13 in five primary schools in Kunming were screened for flat feet with the optical foot assessment and recording device. The incidence of flatfoot was counted, and Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of flatoccurrence.@*Results@#The overall prevalence rate was 29.10%, of which 21.79% were mild, 52.43% were moderate, 25.78% were severe, 89.10 % were bipedal, and 10.90% were monopedal. The prevalence rates in the 7-year old and 13-year old groups were 36.91% and 10.43%, respectively, and the risk in the former was 5.00 times that in the latter( OR=5.00, 95%CI =3.22-7.52). The prevalence rates in rural and urban students were 38.53%, 22.46%, respectively, and the risk in the former was 2.17 times that in the latter( OR=2.17, 95%CI =1.90-2.47). The prevalence of flat feet in male and female students were 34.21%, 23.29%, respectively, and the risk in male students was 1.71 times higher than that in female students( OR=1.71, 95%CI =1.50-1.95). The incidence of flat feet correlated with BMI, and the risk of flat feet was higher in the group with overweight and obese groups than normal( OR=1.31, 1.10, P < 0.01). @*Conclusion@#The prevalence of flat feet in school age children aged 7-13 years decreased with age. The prevalence and risk of flat feet is lower in girls than boys, and the incidence and risk of flat feet are lower in urban than rural children. The incidence of flat feet in most children is moderate, and the risk increased with increasing BMI. For school aged children with flat feet, early prevention, detection and treatment are needed.

Objective@#To describe the sickness absenteeism among primary and secondary school students in Jiading District and to analyze its correlation with the incidence of infectious diseases and associated lead or lag times, so as,to provide a scientific basis for the health and education departments to take measures.@*Methods@#The regularity and symptom composition of school sickness absenteeism among primary and secondary school students in Jiading District from the 2010-2017 were described. The Joinpoint model was applied to analyze the changing trend of absenteeism. And the rate of school sickness absenteeism and incidences of 7 acute infectious diseases were compared through visual analysis. The time lagged correlation coefficients and Granger causality tests were applied to quantitatively analyze the correlation and lead/lag patterns.@*Results@#The average rate of school sickness absenteeism among primary and secondary school students in Jiading District, Shanghai was 0.27%. Since the 2012 academic year, the overall rate of sickness absenteeism has been on the rise. Fever was the most common symptom of absenteeism (47.49%). The trend of sickness absenteeism rate was mainly consistent with the incidence of influenza, and showed a one way Granger causality. The maximum time lagged correlation coefficient was obtained in the second semester of the 2017 academic year with a value of 0.43 (95% CI =0.25-0.58). The maximum time lagged correlation coefficient between the rate of sickness absenteeism with fever and other respiratory symptoms and the incidence of influenza was also obtained in the second semester of the 2017 academic year and the maximum correlation coefficient was 0.50(95% CI =0.33-0.65).@*Conclusion@#The sickness absenteeism rate in primary and secondary school students is correlated to influenza incidence, and it has potential application value in supplementing early warning of influenza activities in the community.

Children account for the largest proportion of the victims of allergic disease, Children s allergies start from scratch, ranging from mild to severe, from less to more, from single to multiple systems and systemic performance, so the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases in children is of great importance, which can not only prevent high risk allergic conditions from developing into allergic diseases, but also further block the process of allergy. At present, there is no consensus on the management system of allergic children in kindergartens and primary schools. The "Consensus on Allergy Management and Prevention in Kindergartens and Primary Schools", which includes the organizational structure, system construction and management of allergic children, provides evidence informed recommendations for the long term comprehensive management of allergic children in kindergartens and primary schools, and provides a basis for the establishment of the prevention system for allergic children.

Objective@#To understand the status of vitamin D deficiency and high blood pressure in primary and middle school students aged 7 to 17 years old in Chongqing, and to explore the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and high blood pressure in children and adolescents.@*Methods@#From 2016 to 2017, a total of 1 360 primary and middle school students, aged 7 to 17 years old, were selected from three rural and three urban sites in Chongqing using multistage stratified random sampling. This study carried out a questionnaire survey, and participants underwent a physical examination which included blood pressure and serum vitamin D assessments.@*Results@#The deficiency and insufficiency rates of vitamin D were 9.71%, and 62.57%, respectively. The high blood pressure rate was 25.88%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, economic status, waist circumference, BMI classification, and family history of hypertension, the risk of hypertension was 1.42 times that of the normal group (P<0.05), and the risk of high systolic blood pressure was 1.59 times that of the normal group (P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#The deficiency and insufficiency rate of vitamin D among children and adolescents aged 7 to 17 years old in Chongqing was high, and the phenomenon of high blood pressure was prominent. Students with vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency were more likely to have high blood pressure.

AIM:To investigate the effect of β-elemene on reversing hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)-induced resistance to gefitinib in PC-9 cells, and to explore its possible mechanisms.METHODS: The gefitinib-resistant PC-9 cells induced by HGF were treated with β-elemene or/and gefitinib.The cell activity was measured by MTT assay.The effect of β-elemene on the invasion ability in HGF-induced resistance to gefitinib in PC-9 cells was detected by Transwell migration assay.The protein levels of p-Met, c-Met, p-AKT and AKT in PC-9 cells of each group were determined by Western blot.RESULTS:The results of MTT assay showed that the cell activity of PC-9 cells was significantly inhibited by β-elemene(P<0.05).IC50of β-elemene for PC-9 cells was 169.31 mg/L.IC50of gefitinib for PC-9 cells was 0.30 μmol/L.Exogenously adding recombinant HGF induced significantly resistance to gefitinib in PC -9 cells.Moreover, SU11274(an inhibitor of c-Met)significantly decreased the viability of the cells exposed to HGF and gefitinib(P <0.05).Combined treatment with β-elemene and gefitinib in the presence of HGF(50 μg/L)significantly decreased the viability of PC-9 cells as compared with the PC-9 cells treated with gefitinib alone in the presence of HGF(P<0.05),so did the result of the cell migration.The protein levels of p-Met and p-AKT were significantly up-regulated by HGF,while the protein levels of p-Met and p-AKT were markedly down-regulated in the cells treated with β-elemene and gefitinib com-pared with gefitinib alone in the presence of HGF.CONCLUSION: β-elemene reverses HGF-induced resistance to ge-fitinib in lung cancer PC-9 cells,likely due to the inhibition of HGF-induced activation of c-Met and its down streams sig-naling pathways(P<0.01).

OBJECTIVE: To meta-analytically compare combined transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and surgical resection (SR) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within the Milan criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for studies comparing these two therapies that were published between January 2006 and August 2017. Overall survival rate (OS), recurrence-free survival rate (RFS), major complications and the average length of hospital stay were compared between these two therapies. Meta-analytic pooled odds ratio (OR) was calculated using TACE plus RFA as the base category. RESULTS: Seven case-control studies and one randomized trial were identified. Meta-analytic results revealed that, compared with SR, TACE plus RFA had significantly higher 1-year OS (OR for survival = 0.50, p = 0.009) and lower major complications (OR = 1.88, p = 0.02) after therapy. Three studies reported on the length of hospital stay. The average length ± standard deviation reported in individual studies for SR and TACE plus RFA groups was 19.8 ± 8.4 days and 7.4 ± 2.2 days, respectively; 18.7 ± 4.9 days and 11.5 ± 6.9 days, respectively; and 16.6 ± 6.7 days and 8.5 ± 4.1 days, respectively (p < 0.0001 for all studies). Three or 5-year OS and 1-, 3-, or 5-year RFS did not significantly differ between the two therapies. CONCLUSION: Combined TACE plus RFA may be an alternative to SR for the treatment of patients with HCC within Milan the criteria. Non-randomized design in most of the original studies was a limitation.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular repair with covered stent in treating ruptured carotid artery pseudoaneurysms.Methods The clinical data of 15 patients with ruptured carotid artery pseudoaneurysm,who were admitted to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital of Zhongshan University during the period from July 2009 to July 2015 to receive emergency rescue with endovascular covered stent implantation,were retrospectively analyzed.Of the 15 patients,the rupture of common carotid artery pseudoaneurysm caused by direct trauma was seen in one and caused by cervical operation was observed in one,the rupture of internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm caused by cervical operation was found in 3,and the rupture of internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm due to radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma was seen in 10.Results Successful rescue with endovascular repair using covered stent implantation was obtained in all 15 patients.No immediate procedure-related complications or death occurred.The mean follow-up time was 11 months.During the follow-up period,no re-bleeding or cerebral ischemic complications occurred.Conclusion For the treatment of ruptured carotid artery pseudoaneurysms,endovascular repair with covered stent is minimally invasive,safe and effective with less complications;and along with the occlusion of carotid artery rupture,the blood supply of the head and neck returns to normal.However,further clinical researches with larger samples are needed before its long-term efficacy can be completely clarified.

Background: Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a neglected systemic mycosis caused by a dimorphic fungus of the Paracoccidioides genus. The standard diagnosis is based on isolation of the fungi in culture, and by microscopic visualization of characteristic multiple budding yeast cells in biological samples. However, in some situations, access to the site of injury prevents the collection of biological material. A variety of immuno-serological techniques has proven useful for allowing inferring diagnosis with a certain degree of certainty, thus optimizing time. The aim of this study was to standardize and validate the Dot-ELISA (DE) assay, comparing it with the serological standard, double immunodiffusion (DI). Methods: In order to standardize the DE assay, 143 serum samples were used. Out of those, 23 were from apparently healthy patients, 77 were from patients with confirmed PCM and 43 were from patients with other lung infections (tuberculosis, aspergillosis and histoplasmosis). To validate the DE technique, 300 serum samples from patients with PCM clinical suspicion (probable and possible cases) were employed, and these results were compared with those of DI. Results: The DE assay showed sensitivity of 91%, specificity of 95.4%, positive predictive value of 96%, negative predictive value of 98.2%, accuracy of 93%, and great precision (k = 0.93). In addition, the nitrocellulose membranes have proved to be viable for using at least 90 days after P. brasiliensis B-339 antigen sensitization. Conclusion: Dot-ELISA method was found to be an extremely promising tool as serologic screening technique, because of its high sensitivity. Furthermore, Dot-ELISA shows the prospect of being transferred to laboratories of mycoserology including those with fewer resources or even to be used directly in the field. It has an excellent shelf life membranes coated with antigen can be used for testing without changes in the pattern of reactivity among laboratories and presents reliable values of sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, accuracy and a high correlation with the serological standard methodology. Based on the present findings, it possible to state that this technique constitutes a remarkable option to be used in routine diagnosis for public health centers.(AU)

Abstract Background: The gamma-type phospholipase A2 inhibitor (LI) is a natural protein commonly found in snake serum, which can neutralize pathophysiological effects of snake venom phospholipases A2. Therefore, this protein is a potential candidate to the development of a novel antivenom. To the best of our knowledge, there is no antibody currently available for PLI identification and characterization. Methods: Bioinformatics prediction of epitope using DNAStar software was performed based on the sequence of Sinonatrix annularis PLI (SaPLI). The best epitope 151CPVLRLSNRTHEANRNDLIKVA172 was chosen and synthesized, and then conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin and bovine serum albumin for use as an immunogen and plate-coating antigen, respectively. Results: Eighteen IgG anti-PLI mAb hybridoma cell strains were obtained, and all the mAbs had positive interaction with recombinant His6-PLI and natural SaPLI. Moreover, the mAb from 10E9 strain was also successfully used for the immunodetection of other snake serum PLIs. cDNA sequence alignment of those PLIs from different snake species showed that their epitope segments were highly homologous. Conclusions: The successful preparation of anti-PLImAb is significant for further investigation on the relationship between the structure and function of PLIs, as well as the interaction between PLIs and PLA2s.

Methods:Seventy five male rats were divided randomly into five groups:sham, vehicle, BMSCs transplantation group, combination group, 15 rats in each group. Every week after the SCI onset, all animals were evaluated for behavior outcome by Basso-Beattle-Bresnahan (BBB) score and inclined plane test. Axon recovery was examined with focal spinal cord tissue by electron microscope at 6 weeks after the SCI onset. HE staining and BrdU staining were performed to examine the BMSCs and lesion post injury. Somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) testing was performed to detect the recovery of neural conduction. Results:Results from the behavior tests from combination group were significant higher than rats which received only transplantation or HBO treatment. Results from histopathology showed favorable recovery from combination group than other treatment groups. The number of BrdU+ in combination group were measureable more than transplantation group (P<0.05). The greatest decrease in TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IFN-αdetermined by Elisa assay in combination group were evident too. Conclusions:BMSCs transplantation can promote the functional recovery of rat hind limbs after SCI, and its combination with HBO has a synergistic effect.

Background & objectives: Biapenem is a newly developed carbapenem to treat moderate and severe bacterial infections. This multicenter, randomized, parallel-controlled clinical trial was conducted to compare the clinical efficacy, bacterial eradication rates and safety of biapenem and meropenem in the treatment of bacterial lower respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs) at nine centres in China. Methods: Patients diagnosed with bacterial lower respiratory tract infections or UTIs were randomly assigned to receive either biapenem (300 mg every 12 h) or meropenem (500 mg every 8 h) by intravenous infusion for 7 to 14 days according to their disease severity. The overall clinical efficacy, bacterial eradication rates and drug-related adverse reactions of biapenem and meropenem were analyzed. Results: A total of 272 enrolled cases were included in the intent-to-treat (ITT) analysis and safety analysis. There were no differences in demographics and baseline medical characteristics between biapenem group and meropenem group. The overall clinical efficacies of biapenem and meropenem were not significantly different, 94.70 per cent (125/132) vs. 93.94 per cent (124/132). The overall bacterial eradication rates of biapenem and meropenem showed no significant difference, 96.39 per cent (80/83) vs. 93.75 per cent (75/80). Drug-related adverse reactions were comparable in biapenem and meropenem groups with the incidence of 11.76 per cent (16/136) and 15.44 per cent (21/136), respectively. The most common symptoms of biapenem-related adverse reactions were rash (2.2%) and gastrointestinal distress (1.5%). Interpretation & conclusions: Biapenem was non-inferior to meropenem and was well-tolerated in the treatment of moderate and severe lower respiratory tract infections and UTIs.

This study was purpose to establish the transgenic mouse models of the truncated platelet integrin β3 by retrovirus-infected hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) transplantation and to provide the basis for further study of the role of integrin β3 cytoplasmic domain in platelet bi-directional signaling pathways. Wild-type β3, β3-Δ759 (R(760) GT(762) truncated β3) and β3-Δ754 (T(755) NITYRGT(762) truncated β3) cDNAs were subcloned into MSCV MigR1 retroviral vector bearing a GFP gene and packaged into infective retrovirus with BOSC23 cell strain. The bone marrow HSCs of the β3 deficient mice were infected by the retroviruses, and transplanted into lethally-irradiated wild type C57BL/6 mice. GFP positive rate and surface β3 expression of the recipients' platelets at 6 to 8 weeks after transplantation were detected by flow cytometry to evaluate the transgenic efficiency. The results showed that four kinds of transgenic mouse models including vector, wild-type β3, β3-Δ759 and β3-Δ754 were established successfully. GFP positive rates of transgenic mouse platelets ranged from 18% to 66% and the β3 expression of transgenic mouse reached heterozygote (β3(+/-) level of mouse). It is concluded that establishment of transgenic mouse models mediated by retrovirus-infected HSCs transplantation is a feasible, fast, and high throughput transgenic approach and laid a solid foundation for further research on the role of integrin β3 cytoplasmic domain for bi-directional signaling of platelets in vivo, and for the gene therapy of platelet disorders.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the clinical value of Lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive alpha-fetoprotein detected by microspincolum method for judgment of treatment response in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing transcatheter arterial chemoembolization.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty eight patients with HCC undergoing TACE follow-up in hospital were recruited. AFP and AFP-L3 were measured in all the patients before and after TACE, and correlations were analyzed between AFP-L3% and response to treatment.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Among the twenty eight patients with HCC undergoing TACE, 8 out 11 case in AFP-L3% descent group had well treatment response, 5 out 17 case in AFP-L3% elevated group had well treatment response(Chi2 = 4. 858, P < 0. 05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The detection of AFP-L3 by microspincolum method is useful to judgment of treatment response in patients with HCC undergoing TACE.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study immunohistochemical expression of GADD153 and assess its usefulness as markers in the differential diagnoses in follicular tumors of the thyroid.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Immunohistochemical staining was performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue of 34 cases of follicular thyroid adenomas (FTA), 46 cases of follicular thyroid carcinomas (FTC), 29 cases of follicular variant papillary carcinomas (FVPC).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) GADD153 was expressed in cell nucleus with positive or strong positive expression in FTC, and no or weak expression in FTA and FVPC. The positive expressions of GADD153 were present in 38 of 46(82.6%) in FTC, 11 of 34(32.4%) in FTA and three of 29(10.3%) in FVPC, the positive expression rate in FTC was obviously higher than that in FTA and in FVPC, the differences were statistically significant (χ² = 20.80 and 37.48; P < 0.01). (2) CK19, Galectin-3 (Gal-3) and HBME-1 were all expressed in the cytoplasm, the positive expressions of CK19, Gal-3 and HBME-1 were present in 54.3% (25/46), 67.4% (31/46) and 58.7% (27/46) in FTC; 50.0% (17/34), 29.4% (10/34) and 32.4% (11/34) in FTA; 100% (29/29), 93.1% (27/29) and 89.7% (26/29) in FVPC, the differences were statistically significant as well (χ² = 21.20 and 8.22; P < 0.01). (3) According to the expressions of CK19, Gal-3, HBME-1 and GADD153, we divided the results into low expression group (0 or 1+) and high expression group (2+ or 3+), the sensitivity and the specificity were calculated. in FTA, the sensitivity were 26.5%, 8.8%, 2.9% and 11.8%; the specificity were 50.7%, 52.0%, 54.7% and 58.7%. in FTC, the sensitivity were 19.6%, 26.1%, 23.9% and 65.2%; the specificity were 41.3%, 57.1%, 62.0% and 92.1%. in FVPC, the sensitivity were 96.6%, 82.8%, 79.3% and 3.4%; the specificity were 77.5%, 81.3%, 85.0% and 57.5%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The sensitivity and the specificity of GADD153 expression are well for diagnosing FTC, and CK19, Gal-3, HBME-1 are well for FVPC. The four markers when used in combination, are better to identify the follicular tumors of the thyroid.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the expression levels of ANXA1 and ANXA2 and elucidate their clinicopathological significance in adenocarcinoma, peritumoral tissues, adenomatous polyp and chronic cholecystitis of gallbladder.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>EnVision(TM) immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of ANXA1 and ANXA2 in paraffin-embedded tissue sections from resected specimens of adenocarcinoma (n = 108), peritumoral tissue (n = 46), adenomatous polyp (n = 15) and chronic cholecystitis (n = 35).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The positive rates and scores of ANXA1 and ANXA2 were significantly higher in adenocarcinoma (59.3%, 56.5%; 3.2 ± 0.9, 3.4 ± 0.8) than those in peritumoral tissues (34.8%, 1.1 ± 0.8, P < 0.01; 30.4%, 1.0 ± 0.8, P < 0.01), adenomatous polyp (26.7%, 0.9 ± 0.7, P < 0.05 or P < 0.01; 26.7%, 0.9 ± 0.8, P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) and chronic cholecystitis (17.1%, 0.7 ± 0.9, P < 0.01; 20.0%, 0.8 ± 0.8, P < 0.01). The benign lesions with positive ANXA1 and/or ANXA2 expression showed mild to severe atypical hyperplasia of the gallbladder epithelium. The positive rates of ANXA1 and/or ANXA2 were significantly lower in the well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, in a maximal diameter of < 2 cm, with no metastasis to lymph nodes and no invasion to surrounding tissues than those in the moderately or poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma, in a maximal diameter of ≥ 2 cm, with metastasis to lymph nodes and invasion in surrounding tissues (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). A high consistence was found between the expression levels of ANXA1 and ANXA2 (χ(2) = 67.84, P < 0.01), and a close positive correlation between the scores of ANXA1 and ANXA2 (r = 0.78, P < 0.01) in gallbladder adenocarcinoma. Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that ANXA1 or ANXA2 was not an independent prognostic predictor in gallbladder adenocarcinoma.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The expression levels of ANXA1 and/or ANXA2 may be important biological markers in the carcinogenesis, progression and biological behaviors of gallbladder adenocarcinoma.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Essential hypertension (EH) was a complex disease resulted from the interaction of cumulative effect of multiple genetic and environment factors. The relationship between the genetic polymorphisms in the transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1), the blood levels and EH have been investigated, but the conclusions were different. Therefore, we investigate the relationship between the tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (tSNPs) (rs1800469, rs2241716, rs11466345, rs2241715, rs4803455) in TGF-beta1 gene, blood levels and EH in the Han nationality population in Xinjiang, to clarity the pattern of linkage disequilibrium (LD) and the feature of the structure of haplotype.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Based on the case-control study,we selected 732 (365 EH patients,367 controls) Han Chinese population from the Boertonggu countryside of Shawan region in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China by random cluster sampling. After questionnaire and physical examination, we collected blood samples, and the blood levels of TGF-beta1 were quantified using sandwich ELISA. The polymorphisms of TGF-beta1 gene in the study groups were detected with SNaPshot system. The case-control study in a large group was carried out separately for each of the tSNP and followed up by haplotypes analyses to determine the relation between tSNPs of TGF-beta1 gene and EH in the Han population.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) The frequencies of alleles A, G of rs11466345 of TGF-beta1 gene in EH group and control group were as follows: 69.7%, 30.3%, 74.4%, 25.6%, respectively. It was demonstrated that the G allele of the rs11466345 polymorphism occurred at a significantly higher frequency in EH patients than in healthy controls (30.3% vs. 25.6%, P < 0.05). The rs11466345G-allele carriers had a significantly increased risk of EH compared to rs11466345A-allele carrier (OR = 1.261; P < 0.05). The frequencies of genotypes and alleles of the other tSNPs of TGF-beta1 gene had no difference between EH patients and controls (P > 0.05). (2)Except the site of rs11466345, the other tSNPs were in strong LD, and no statistical differences were observed in haplotypes distribution in the followup study between case-control groups (P > 0.05). (3) There were no difference of TGF-beta1 levels between the different genotypes and alleles in tSNPs of TGF-beta1 gene (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>(1) These results suggested that TGF-beta1 gene rs11466345 G allele was likely to be a genetic susceptibility factor for EH in the Xinjiang Han population, the other tSNPs perhaps had no association with EH of in the study groups. (2) Except rs11466345, the other tSNPs were in strong LD, and the haplotypes reconstructed by tSNPs might not be associated with EH in the Han nationality populations. (3) There was no association between the tSNP of TGF-beta1 gene and TGF-beta1 blood levels in the Xinjiang Han nationality population.</p>
