Uso y selección de las partes aéreas del algarrobo Prosopis pallida (Fabaceae) por reptiles, aves y mamíferos en Sechura (Piura - Perú) / Use and selection of the aerial parts of the carob tree Prosopis pallida (Fabaceae) by reptiles, birds and mammals in Sechura (Piura Peru)

RESUMEN

Prosopis pallida forma parte de los algarrobales del desierto de Sechura en el noroeste peruano. Brinda múltiples beneficios como recurso para la fauna silvestre. Siguiendo el concepto de selección de recursos, se plantea como objetivo determinar el uso y selección de las partes aéreas de P. pallida por parte de reptiles, aves y mamíferos, en el algarrobal aledaño a la laguna Ñapique (Sechura, Perú). Los datos se tomaron en seis transectos seleccionados convenientemente y se calculó la disponibilidad del árbol después de dividirlo en tres componentes, copa superior, copa inferior y tronco con ramas, a los que se añadió la sombra bajo la copa como cuarto componente por estar relacionado directamente con el árbol. Se adaptó el diseño Tipo I de Manly (la disponibilidad y uso se estiman para todos los individuos de la especie dentro del área de estudio) y se usó el Cociente de Selección de Manly para determinar la selección de los componentes del árbol por parte de la fauna. Los reptiles seleccionaron la sombra bajo la copa. Las aves y mamíferos seleccionaron el tronco y ramas. El uso y selección de los diferentes componentes de P. pallida revelan la vital importancia que tiene para la sobrevivencia de la fauna silvestre en el desierto de Sechura.

ABSTRACT

Prosopis pallida is one component of the carob trees of the Sechura desert in northwestern Peru. It offers multiple benefits as a resource for wildlife. Following the concept of resource selection, the objective is to determine the use and selection of the aerial parts of the P. pallida by reptiles, birds and mammals, in the carob trees next to the lagoon Ñapique (Sechura, Peru). The data were taken in six conveniently selected transects and the availability of the tree was calculated after dividing it into three components, top cup, bottom cup and trunk with branches. To these components, the shade under the cup was added as the fourth component to be directly related with the tree. The Type I Design of Manly was adapted (availability and use are estimated for all individuals of the species within the study area) and the Manly Selection Ratio was used to determine the selection of tree components by wildlife. The reptiles selected the shade under the cup. Birds and mammals selected the trunk and branches. The use and selection of the different components of the P. pallida reveal the vital importance it has for the survival of wildlife in the Sechura Desert.
