RESUMEN
Introducción:
Todos los seres dependen de los procesos de intercambio de información con su medio para sobrevivir. En el ámbito médico, la comunicación es considerada un tipo de destreza o habilidad interpersonal "no técnica", esencial para establecer una adecuada relación médico-paciente, y que juega un papel fundamental en la seguridad del paciente.Objetivos:
Evaluar la percepción de seguridad del paciente quirúrgico respecto a la comunicación interpersonal con el personal médico. Determinar la importancia que tiene la comunicación-información del personal médico sobre la seguridad percibida por los pacientes. Material ymétodos:
Estudio descriptivo, transversal mediante utilización de encuestas a pacientes del Servicio de Cirugía General, durante un período comprendido de Junio/2015 hasta Diciembre/2015, de su percepción de seguridad en la comunicación con el personal médico durante la estancia hospitalaria.Resultados:
792 (90.93%) consideró que recibió toda la información en tiempo y forma. 741 (85.07%) refirió que la comunicación con el personal médico le resultó clara y comprensible siempre. 866 (99.42%) refirió haber recibido información del procedimiento quirúrgico a realizarle; y 843 (97.34%) han entendido. 789 (90.58%) sintieron que el consentimiento informado les fue claro y comprensible. 731 (83.92%) haber sentido seguridad de operarse.Conclusión:
La comunicación interpersonal es una habilidad no técnica, esencial, que debe formar parte en la educación del profesional médico. Su importancia radica en la relación médico-paciente y en la adecuada percepción de seguridad que se genera en este último; siendo uno de los componentes fundamentales de la calidad de atención en la actualidad.ABSTRACT

In the medical field, communication is considered a type of "non-technical" skill or interpersonal competence, essential to establish a proper doctor-patient relationship, and plays a key role in patient safety.Objectives:
Assess the safety perception of surgical patients regarding interpersonal communication with medical staff. Determine the importance of communication information from medical staff on security perceive d by patients. Materials andmethods:
Descriptive, cross-sectional study by use of surgical patients surveys, between June/2015 and December/2015, about their perception of security in communication with medical staff during their hospital stay.Results:
792 (90.93%) considered that they received all information in a timely manner. 741 (85.07%) reported that the communication with the medical staff found it clear and always comprehensive. 866 (99.42%) reported having received information from surgical procedure to be performed; and 843 (97.34%) understood. 789 (90.58%) felt that informed consent was clear and understandable to them. 731 (83.92%) have felt safety of surgery.Conclusion:
Interpersonal communication is a non-technical skill, essential, that should be part of medical staff's education. Its importance lies in the doctor-patient relationship and the proper perception of safety that is generated in the latter; being one of the fundamental components of quality of care.Key words
