Dimensões alteritárias da Ebola no Brasil: um estudo na revista Veja / Alterity dimensions of Ebola in Brazil: a study in the Veja Magazine

RESUMO

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar, numa perspectiva psicossocial, como a imprensa aborda e constrói a noção do risco, sobre o Ebola. Propomos discutir como as formas de falar dessa epidemia podem estar atreladas às dimensões alteritárias. A amostra foi composta por cinco matérias encontradas no acervo eletrônico da revista semanal Veja, no período compreendido entre março de 2014 e fevereiro de 2015, tendo sido utilizado o descritor "ebola". Utilizamos como método a análise de conteúdo com foco no eixo semântico (sentidos) e sintático (forma). Os resultados apontam 4 eixos de construção de sentidos a metáfora da companhia militar para demonstrar o combate do homem contra um vírus potencialmente destrutivo; a alteridade radical, colocando o outro africano como "estranho e "poluente"; o distanciamento, em que o vírus Ebola é colocado como problema inerentemente africana e por último a ideia da infra-humanização, colocando as qualidades do africano como sub-humanas. ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze, from a psychosocial perspective, how the press builds and deals with the concept of risk of the Ebola outbreak. We propose to discuss how the ways of speaking about this epidemic can be linked to the dimensions of alterity. The sample consisted of five articles found in the electronic collection of the weekly magazine Veja, in the period between March 2014 and February 2015, using the descriptor "Ebola". As method of data analysis it was used the content analysis, focusing the semantic axis (direction) and the syntactic axis (shape). The analysis reveals four categories the metaphor of the military company to demonstrate man's struggle against a potentially destructive virus; radical alterity, placing the African as "strange" and "pollutant"; the place occupied by the Ebola, which is far away from the west and as a looming problem of Africa; and finally the idea of infra-humanization, putting the african qualities as subhuman.
