ABSTRACT
The effect of intramuscular injection of a single dose of long acting bromocriptine microspsheres was compared to the effect of a single intra-muscular dose estradiol / testosterone as an inhibitor of lactation. The study included 54 patients [26 on bromocriptione -28 on high dose of estrogen]. Some patients of both groups experienced slight to moderate breast discomfort. Bromocriptine inhibited milk flow more than steroid [P=.005]. Neither group showed any side effects or significant biologic changes in coagulation profiles. There were no ECG alternations or blood pressure changes in both groups. Post-partum suppression of milk flow was more intense after bromo-criptine administration than after steroid [1]
