Drug supply system, and over all pattern and extent of drug usage in public health care system of state of Bahrain

ABSTRACT

During the last decade, there has been much concern about the expenditure incurred on pharmaceuticals in public health care system as usually it constitutes for onethird of total expenditure on material purchase of health care system. The present study analyses current status of drug supply system and drug usage pattern in public health care system, ministry of health, state of Bahrain. These analyses revealed some interesting facts such as overall increasing trend on drug expenditure, more use of newly introduced anti-bacterial,anti-ulcer agents, etc'inspite of the many activities already diverted to economize on drug expenditure, it is believed that formation of National Drug Supply System based on policies discussed in this study,can further help to economize on pharmaceutical supply and enhance the overall development process in public health care system of state of Bahrain
