A influência da terapia manual nas cervicalgias crônicas por osteoartrose / The influence of manual therapy for chronic cervical osteoarthritis

RESUMO

A cervicalgia é uma queixa comum na população em geral sendo relatado em diversos trabalhos atuais, tornando-se mais frequente à medida que há progressão da idade. A osteoartrose é uma das causas da cervicalgia, ocasionada por processo degenerativo. A pesquisa em questão tem por objetivo verificar a eficácia do protocolo de tratamento de técnicas da Terapia Manual em pacientes portadores de cervicalgia crônica por processo de osteoartrose cervical, atendidos no setor de fisioterapia da academia GYM Sports Center nos períodos de Março a Julho de 2008. Para realização desta pesquisa foram avaliados e tratados 10 pacientes, de ambos os sexos, na faixa etária de 50 a 68 anos, com média de idade 53 anos submetidos a 10 sessões. Todos os participantes desta pesquisa foram avaliados de forma geral, para confirmação do diagnóstico médico e foram feitas avaliações diárias efetuadas no pré e pós protocolo, por meio da goniometria e da Escala Visual Analógica (EVA), com os fins de avaliar a amplitude de movimento e o nível de dor referida. Com os resultados desta pesquisa, foi possível verificar que o protocolo de terapia manual na cervicalgia crônica mostrou-se eficaz em relação ao nível de dor e amplitude de movimento após o protocolo utilizado.

ABSTRACT

The neck pain is a common complaint in the general population being reported in several papers today, becoming more frequent as there is progression of age. Osteoarthritis is one of the causes of the neck pain, and the most cause is a degenerative process. The research in question is designed to verify the effectiveness of the protocol processing techniques of manual therapy in patients with chronic neck pain by process of cervical osteoarthritis. The patients had been threated at Santa Edwiges Clinic School APAE/CEST, during the period between March and July of 2008. To conduct this research, 10 patients of both sexes were evaluated and treated, aged from 50 to 68 years, with an average age of 53.0 years submitted to 10 sections. All participants of this study were evaluated in general, to confi rm the diagnosis and medical assessments were made daily performed in the pre and post protocol, through goniometry and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) with the purpose of assessing the range of motion and the level of referred pain. With the results of this research, it was possible to verify that the protocol of manual therapy in chronic neck pain was effective in relation to the level of pain and range of motion before and after the protocol.
