ABSTRACT
With the advent of antibiotics therapy it was thought that tuberculosis was eradicated. After 1980's tuberculosis reemerged and a lot of people became infected, mainly HIV persons. Nowadays tuberculosis is seen as a public health problem in Brazil, with 118 new cases per year. The active phase of tuberculosis is the infectious phase, so the dentist should have knowledge of the disease in order to be able to identify contaminated patients and differentiate their disease phase. Just knowing the disease, the dentist will conduct correctly the treatment and educate their work team.
