Enfermedad, cuerpo y corporeidad: una mirada antropológica / Disease, body and corporeity: an anthropological perspective

RESUMEN

El propósito de este trabajo es presentar una reflexión sobre la percepción de la enfermedad a partir del cuerpo y su relación con el mundo. Se presenta una somera revisión de algunas nociones de cuerpo y corporeidad que en distintos momentos de la historia han permitido concebir el cuerpo enfermo, y el cuerpo y el orden simbólico. La aproximación a la distinción entre cuerpo y corporeidad involucra una mirada antropológica. Se resalta el carácter polisémico del cuerpo, que participa, por una parte, en la relación entre naturaleza-cultura y, por otra, en la relación íntima entre mente-cuerpo. Así, la noción de corporeidad involucra la conciencia de nuestro cuerpo, no solo de la experiencia de lo que sentimos a través de él sino del conjunto de significaciones que a partir de él otorgamos al mundo.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to present a reflection on the perception of disease, taking the body and its relation to the world as a crucial point of departure. We develop some key notions of body and corporeity that throughout history involve different symbolic conceptions of the diseased body from an anthropological perspective. We highlight the polysemic nature of bodily performance that involves nature and culture as well as the mind-body dual condition. Thus, the notion of embodiment involves our body consciousness, not just the experience of what we feel through it, but the set of meanings from it that we give the world.
