Estrategia educativa como instrumento preventivo de urgencias en pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis parcial removible metálica / Educational strategy as preventive instrument of urgencies in rehabilitated patients with metallic removable partial prosthesis

RESUMEN

Fundamento es común que los pacientes que usan prótesis parciales removibles metálicas acudan al servicio de urgencias de prótesis por presentar dolores dentales, caries, retenedores fracturados, entre otros problemas. Objetivo: aplicar una estrategia educativa dirigida a la prevención de urgencias estomatológicas en pacientes rehabilitados con prótesis parcial removible metálica. Método: se realizó un estudio de intervención educativa en el Policlínico de Atención al Combatiente del Ministerio del Interior de Camagüey en el período comprendido de enero a diciembre de 2008. El universo quedó constituido por cincuenta y dos pacientes que fueron rehabilitados con prótesis parcial removible metálica, del que se tomó una muestra equiprobabilística de cuarenta pacientes. Se emplearon controles de placa dentobacteriana y de higiene de la prótesis diagnósticos unidos a un formulario. Se aplicó una estrategia de intervención y se compararon los resultados obtenidos. Resultados: después de la estrategia el 90 por ciento de los pacientes presentaban una buena higiene bucal, el 87 por ciento buena higiene de sus prótesis y el 92 por ciento tenía buen nivel de información. Conclusiones: la mayoría de los examinados mejoraron el nivel de información en cuanto a uso, higiene y cuidado de las prótesis, y la higiene bucal y protésica después de aplicada la estrategia; las urgencias estomatológicas no abundaron; todos aprendieron algo nuevo de prevención en salud a través de los encuentros.

ABSTRACT

Background: it is common that patients that use metallic removable partial prosthesis go to the emergency service of prosthesis to present dental pains, caries, fractured retainers, among other problems. Objective: to apply an educational strategy directed to the prevention of stomatological urgencies in rehabilitated patients with metallic removable partial prosthesis. Method: an educational intervention study in the polyclinic Atención al Combatiente of the Department of the Interior of Camagüey from January to December 2008. The universe was constituted by fifty-two patients that were rehabilitated with metallic removable partial prosthesis, of which an equiprobabilistic sample of forty patients was taken. Controls of dentobacterial plaque were used and hygiene of the diagnostic prosthesis incorporated to a form. An intervention strategy was applied and the obtained results were compared. Results: after the strategy the 90 percent of patients presented a good oral hygiene, the 87 percent good hygiene of their prosthesis and the 92 percent had a good level of information. Conclusions: most of those examined improved the level of information as far as use, hygiene and care of prosthesis, and the oral and prosthetic hygiene after having applied the strategy; the stomatological urgencies were not plentiful; everybody learned something new in health prevention through the meetings.
