RESUMEN
INTRODUCCION:
las intervenciones comunitarias constituyen una herramienta fundamental para la prevención y control del dengue aplicable por el médico de la comunidad.OBJETIVO:
diseñar y ejecutar de una intervenci¾n comunitaria.MÉTODOS:
el universo estuvo constituido por 15 000 hab de la localidad de San Mateo, municipio Libertad, Anzoátegui, en la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, en el período comprendido de mayo de 2007 a mayo de 2008. La intervención se realizó en 3 fases. La primera consistió en el levantamiento, capacitación y organización de la comunidad, la segunda fue la puesta en marcha, y la tercera de evaluación y control.RESULTADOS:
se realizó una intervención comunitaria de tipo mixto encaminada a la prevención y control de la enfermedad, que se enfocó a evitar sus riesgos y causas específicas. Se creó una metodología abierta con un enfoque estratégico pluralista y participativo que estuvo presente a lo largo de todo el proceso. CONSIDERACIONES FINALES la metodología empleada logró modificar hábitos y costumbres que contribuyeron a la disminución de la enfermedad, aplicable por el médico familiar en comunidades alejadas de las grandes urbes. Su flexibilidad, particularidad, inmediatez, carácter integrador, autonomía, sencillez, factibilidad y fiabilidad permiten la sostenibilidad de un programa de prevención y control del dengueABSTRACT

to design and to execute a community intervention.METHODS:
sample included 15 000 inhabitants of San Mateo town, Libertad municipality, Anzoátegui in Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from May, 2007 to May, 2008. Intervention was carried out in three phases. The first consisted of community raising, training and organization, the second one was its implementation, and the third was of evaluation and control.RESULTS:
a mixed community intervention was carried out aimed to prevention and control of this disease focusing in elimination of its risks and causes. An open methodology was designed with a pluralist and participation strategic approach present throughout the process. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS the methodology used achieved to modify the habits which contributed to decrease of disease, applicable for the family physician in communities distant of large cities. Its flexibility, peculiarity, immediateness, integration character, autonomy, simplicity, feasibility and reliability allow the sustenance of a program of dengue prevention and controlKey words
