As voltas e viravoltas dos jovens do início do século XXI / Changes and turnarounds of young people in the beginning of the 21st century

RESUMO

O presente artigo discute a inserção da juventude citadina na apropriação do uso da internet, baseando-se em pesquisa realizada com jovens que terminaram o ensino médio, ouvindo-os no momento de sua entrada na universidade em relação ao uso e às representações que fazem da internet, tendo como contraponto as representações do livro, da TV e do computador. Os passos metodológicos são descritos e os resultados analisados. A pesquisa mostra que, pelo menos um segmento da população de jovens citadinos nascidos no final da década de 70 e 80 são pertencentes à chamada Geração Y, independente de sua classe econômico-social, não importando se, para acompanhar os avanços midiáticos, os menos favorecidos tenham que criar, com muito esforço, uma série de maneiras para poder usufruí-los.

ABSTRACT

The present article discusses the insertion of the city youth in the appropriation of the use of the internet, based on a research conducted with young people who have completed high school, listening to them at the moment they entered the university, concerning the use and representations they make of internet, having as a counterpoint the representations of the book, of the TV, and of the computer. The methodological steps are described and the results are analyzed. The research shows that, at least a segment of the population of the youth from the city born in the late 70's and 80‟s belongs to what is called Generation Y, regardless of their socioeconomic class, not mattering if, to follow the media advances, the low income population has to create, with a lot of effort, a series of forms to take proffit of them.
