Comparar gastos com serviços de atenção básica para homens e mulheres em Bauru-SP, Brasil. Métodos:
estudo transversal com amostra composta por usuários dos serviços com ≥50 anos de idade selecionados aleatoriamente; os gastos com saúde em consultas, exames, medicamento e gastos totais foram analisados retroagindo 12 meses.Resultados:
o estudo incluiu 707 mulheres e 256 homens atendidos; o gasto total foi maior para mulheres (mediana R$128,1) do que para homens (R$108,6; p-valor=0,027); proporcionalmente, o gasto com consultas (27,6 por cento e 18,4 por cento; p=0,005) e exames (27,1 por cento e 19,5 por cento; p=0,022) foi maior para o sexo feminino do que para o masculino; após ajuste pelas variáveis de confusão (tabagismo, classe socioeconômica, atividade física e excesso de peso), o sexo feminino continuou associado a maiores gastos com exames (odds ratio = 1,47; intervalo de confiança de 95 por cento 1,01-2,14).Conclusão:
o sexo feminino apresentou maiores gastos com exames, enquanto a obesidade, maiores gastos com consultas médicas...ABSTRACT
To compare expenditure on primary health care services for men and women in Bauru-SP, Brazil. Methods:
cross-sectional study with a sample composed of randomly selected health service users' aged ≥50 years. Healthcare expenditure over the last 12 months was analyzed and stratified into medical consultations, exams, medication and overall expenditure.Results:
707 women and 256 men were assessed. Women had higher overall expenditures than men (median R$128.1 versus R$108.6; p-value=0.027). Comparing females and males, being female was associated with higher medical consultation expenditure (27.6 per cent versus 18.4 per cent, respectively p-value=0.005) and exams (27.1 per cent versus 19.5 per cent, respectively p-value=0.022). After statistical adjustments (smoking, socioeconomic status, physical activity and overweight), being female was still associated with higher exam-related expenditure (Odds Ratio= 1.47; 95 per cent confidence interval 1.01-2.14).Conclusion:
