Metformin is a first-line drug in the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), which has been used clinically for over 60 years.In recent years, metformin's effects beyond glycaemia have been gradually discovered, including weight loss, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and cardioprotection.Compared with other hypoglycemic drugs, metformin has a clear cardioprotective effect.This article will systematically explain the cardioprotective effects of metformin.
