RESUMO

Microbial spectrum and non-specific as well as specific IgA1 protease activity of isolated microorganisms were investigated in gingival liquid of patients with periodontitis. Microorganisms from the gingival liqud of these patients belonged to conditional-pathogenic obligate and facultatively anaerobic bacteria. 24 strains of microorganisms have been identified. Nonspecific proteolytic activity was found in the following microorganisms: Actinomyces israelii, Actinomyces naeslundii, Aerococcus viridans, Bifidobacterium longum, Neisseria subflave, Streptococcus parvulus, Eubacterium alactolyticum, Lactobaccilus catenoforme, Bacillus spp. Specific IgA1-protease activity and lack of proteolytic activity towards IgG was found in Streptococcus acidominimus, Streptococcus hansenii, Streptococcus salivarius, Leptotrychia buccalis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Neisseria sicca. No proteolytic activity was found in cultivation medium of Eubacterium alactolyticum (1 strain), Prevotella buccalis, Aerococcus viridans and Streptococcus sanguis.

RESUMO

In comparison to normal controls, the non-sporing anaerobes were often isolated from orodental sepsis (42% to 44.4%), chronic suppurative otitis media (40%), septic abortion (40.3%), uterocervical wound (45.4%), vaginitis (50%) and cancer cervix (50%). This was true (40%) in perforating ulcers of foot in leprosy. These organisms were less frequently noted in abdominal (11%) and episiotomy (22.8%) wounds and leucorrhoea (33.3%). The role of non-sporing anaerobes was also suggested by the high percentage ratio of number of isolates to number of cases and by its primary isolation in moderate to heavy number. Barring the cases of cancer cervix, the aerobic bacteria were the most common (78.8% to 100%) in all other conditions.

RESUMO

Out of 25 cases of trophic ulcers of the foot, 10 (40%) were both aerobic and anaerobic, 14 (56%) only aerobic and one (4%) showed no growth of bacteria. With the exception of two cases (8%) in the aerobic group, all others showed mixed infections. A wide range of bacteria is reported. Topical application of gentamicin and chloramphenicol is recommended, based on the results of in vitro sensitivity.

RESUMO

Material from 108 trophic ulcers from leprosy cases were studied bacteriologically. 4 cases showed growth of pure anaerobes and 69 showed mixed growth of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. The predominant anaerobes were Fusobacteria (41), anaerobic cocci (30) and Bacteroides (25). Clostridia were isolated only in 10 cases. Metronidazole, chloramphenicol, penicillin and ampicillin were found effective against anaerobes in in-vitro studies.
