RESUMO

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by multiple cutaneous venous malformations in association with visceral lesions, most commonly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Oral cavity lesions occur in 59 to 64% of cases. We report a unique presentation of this syndrome in a 25-year-old male patient with prominent oral findings. This is a sporadic case, started during early childhood, progressively increasing in number and size. Oral vascular lesions were part of gastrointestinal involvement. Associated cardiac abnormalities were also observed. An early diagnosis of this syndrome is required as it gets complicated with bleeding, anemia and other systemic complications.

RESUMO

Female aged 55 years presented with signs and symptoms of borderline lepromatous leprosy and presence of a non-healing ulcer and multiple haemorrhagic blisters over dorsum of both feet. Discharge from the various lesions was subjected to microbiological examination and an unusual organism Shewanella purtefaciens was isolated which was sensitive to most routine antibiotics. Patient responded well to cephadroxil therapy with uneventful and complete healing of ulcer and blisters.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Skin disease leading to extensive blistering and loss of skin is associated with a characteristic smell. Odor can cause physiologic disturbances such as increase in heart rate and respiratory rate. It can also cause nausea and vomiting and is disturbing to bystanders. AIMS: To test odor reducing capability of activated charcoal. METHODS: In this blinded experimental study we used putrefied amniotic membrane to produce odor and studied the effectiveness of activated charcoal and soda-bi-carbonate to reduce odor. RESULTS: Statistical analysis with Kruskal Wall's Chi Square Test and Man Whitney U test showed significant reduction of odor using activated charcoal by itself or along with soda-bi-carbonate. CONCLUSION: We recommend the usage of activated charcoal with/without soda bicarbonate as an inexpensive practical measure to reduce foul odor associated with extensive skin loss.
