ABSTRACT

Homology of medicine and food is an important content in Chinese medicine and also works as the basis for guiding the development of compound health food containing Chinese materia medica. The top products, supplements, health care prescriptions, and medicinal meals in traditional herbal texts are the theoretical treasures of Chinese medicine compound health foods. With the implementation of the National Healthy China 2030,China's major health industry faces with tremendous opportunities. It is necessary to develop a batch of compound health food containing Chinese materia medica with Chinese medicine characteristics,in line with the needs of the country and society. Domestic research on compound health food containing Chinese materia medica mainly focuses on the extraction of functional components, preparation molding processes, quality standards, and efficacy evaluation. However, there are still some deficiencies in the related characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) theory and function, evaluation criteria of efficacy and safety, new product R&D evaluation system and R&D platform. Based on a large number of previous studies by this laboratory, the views in nature, flavor and efficacy relationship were put forward in this paper. Based on the establishment of the Chinese medicine function-pharmacology-clinical application database system, the Chinese medicine compatibility database system, the Chinese medicine nature and flavor modern research database system, and the evaluation platform for animal models of Chinese medicine; the efficacy study, safety evaluation system, new product research and development evaluation system as well as research and development platform were established, providing a basis for the development and evaluation of compound health food containing Chinese materia medica. The modern scientific connotation of the core efficacy of compound health food containing Chinese materia medica was explained as well, helpful to promote the research and development of compound health food containing Chinese materia medica and play an important role in general health.

ABSTRACT

Health food containing Chinese materia medica has many advantages in health preservation and reducing the risk of disease occurrence, which meets people's demands for " great health" and " preventive treatment of disease". However, due to its complex ingredients, diverse quality of raw materials,as well as the vagueness and lack of integrity for existing quality standards, chaos is caused in the health food market, which restricts its healthy development and also poses new challenges to the quality control of healthy food. At present, the total component content or single component content is determined in most functional/marker component examinations. Safety and microbial detection methods fail to cover the contamination range of the raw materials of Chinese materia medica. Therefore,it is impossible to meet the purpose of ensuring authenticity, safety and efficacy. In recent years,a lot of Chinese materia medica extracts have been used as raw materials for food products, but many extracts lack standards. The author believes that the quality control of health food containing Chinese materia medicas should start with the quality control of Chinese materia medica extracts. In this way, product quality is controlled from source to ensure product consistency; secondly, the overall quality control should be strengthened to ensure the authenticity of the products; the scope of safety inspection shall be expanded to fundamentally ensure the safety of products. At the same time,we should strengthen the quality control of whole process and strengthen the overall quality control of raw materials to produce health food of high quality.

ABSTRACT

The historiographical prejudice that sees in Jean-Jacques Rousseau an implacable opponent of scientific knowledge has long prevented an objective evaluation of the important influence that medical thought exerted over his philosophy. The aim of this paper is to show not only Rousseau's familiarity with the most important expressions of eighteenth-century medical literature, but also his willingness to incorporate some medical suggestions in his philosophical and literary production. In the first part of this article, I try to show how Rousseau's sensibility theory presupposes precise medical ideals, related to Montpellier School of vitalism. In the second part, I stress how Rousseau's philosophy of alimentation (which has clear anthropological and political implications) can be regarded as a genuine application of an ambition typical of vitalism: to use medical hygiene, also and above all, for moral purpose.

ABSTRACT

HYPOTHESIS: Self-reported use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has been shown to increase following a cancer diagnosis, and breast cancer survivors are the heaviest users among cancer survivors. The aim of this study was to determine whether the prevalence estimate of CAM use varied according to classification of CAM. The authors used a comprehensive system to classify CAM users and test differences in demographic, lifestyle, quality of life, and cancer characteristics among them. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Participants were 2562 breast cancer survivors participating in the Women's Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) Study, aged 28 to 74 years. A structured telephone interview assessed CAM use, questioning about specific CAM practices, and whether use was related to cancer. This study examined CAM use in relation to demographics, health behaviors, and quality of life. RESULTS: Approximately 80% of the women used CAM for general purposes but only 50% reported CAM use for cancer purposes. Visual imagery, spiritual healing, and meditation were the most frequently used practices for cancer purposes. CAM use, defined as consulting a CAM practitioner and regular use, was significantly related to younger age, higher education, increased fruit and vegetable intake, and lower body mass index (P < .05). CAM users who had seen a practitioner were also more likely to report poor physical and mental health than non-CAM users (P < .05). CAM use was not associated with changes in physical and mental health between study baseline and 1-year follow-up. CONCLUSION: This study addressed important differences in the classification of CAM use among breast cancer survivors. Future studies need to further test the potential benefits and risks associated with CAM use.

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus has grown alarmingly in recent times, but beyond statistical considerations should be noted that patients with this condition can have a good prognostic and a quality of life if it complies with a plan that addresses three key issues: a program of moderate exercise, drug therapy and an individualized meal plan based on your food preferences, your lifestyle and your overall health. Good nutrition is important for the body to remain in balance, but in the case of those affected by diabetes it will be a paramount importance to prevent complications of the disease characteristics: diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy and the thrombotic vascular injury to cardiac and cerebral le among others. Learning to eat, and know that a healthy diet is far removed from the idea of following a "diet': a term that implicitly connotes a temporary effort to lose we the first step in controlling a condition affects nearly 10 million people in Mexico.
