RESUMO

Compared with the use of monocultures in the field, cultivation of medicinal herbs in forests is an effective strategy to alleviate disease. Chemical interactions between herbs and trees play an important role in disease suppression in forests. We evaluated the ability of leachates from needles of Pinus armandii to induce resistance in Panax notoginseng leaves, identified the components via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and then deciphered the mechanism of 2,3-Butanediol as the main component in the leachates responsible for resistance induction via RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). Prespraying leachates and 2,3-Butanediol onto leaves could induce the resistance of P. notoginseng to Alternaria panax. The RNA-seq results showed that prespraying 2,3-Butanediol onto leaves with or without A. panax infection upregulated the expression of large number of genes, many of which are involved in transcription factor activity and the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Specifically, 2,3-Butanediol spraying resulted in jasmonic acid (JA) -mediated induced systemic resistance (ISR) by activating MYC2 and ERF1. Moreover, 2,3-Butanediol induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR) by upregulating pattern-triggered immunity (PTI)- and effector-triggered immunity (ETI)-related genes and activated camalexin biosynthesis through activation of WRKY33. Overall, 2,3-Butanediol from the leachates of pine needles could activate the resistance of P. notoginseng to leaf disease infection through ISR, SAR and camalexin biosynthesis. Thus, 2,3-Butanediol is worth developing as a chemical inducer for agricultural production.

RESUMO

The pollution release and the antiscourability characteristics of pipe sewage sediments can directly determine the blockage status of pipelines and the treatment burden at the outflow (sewage treatment plant). In this study, sewer environments with different burial depths were designed to explore the impact of incubation time on microbial activity, and the impacts of microbial activity on the physicochemical characteristics, pollution release effect and antiscouring ability of the silted sediment in the drainage pipe were further explored. The results showed that the incubation time, sediment matrix, temperature and dissolved oxygen affected microbial activity, but temperature had a greater influence. These factors affected microbial activity and loosened the superstructure in the sediment. In addition, by measuring the indices of nitrogen and phosphorus in the overlying water, it was found that sediment incubated for a certain time released pollutants into the overlying water, and the release amount was obviously affected by high temperature (e.g. 35 ℃). After a certain time (e.g. 30 days), biofilms appeared on the sediment surface, and the antiscourability of sediment was significantly improved, which was reflected in the increase in the median particle size of sediment left in the pipe.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore if there is a positive additive interaction between no folic acid (FA) supplementation in early period of pregnancy and preeclampsia which increases the risk of preterm birth (PTB). METHODS: We matched 1471 women who had live-birth singleton preterm infants with 1471 women who had live-birth singleton term infants at 15 Chinese hospitals in 2018. We excluded women who took folic acid less than 0.4 mg/d or less than 12 weeks in early stage, women with gestational hypertension, chronic hypertension, or preeclampsia during previous pregnancy. We calculate odds ratios for PTB by performing conditional logistic regression comparing preterm group with term group. We quantified the interaction between 2 exposures by synergy (S) and relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI). RESULTS: Approximately 40% of preterm cases did not take FA in early pregnancy. After adjusting confounding factors by logistic regression, when the 2 exposures (no early FA supplementation and preeclampsia) co-existed, the risk of all PTB increased significantly (aOR11=12.138; 95% CI 5.726-25.73), the interaction between 2 exposures was positive (S=1.27) and increased 2.385-fold risk of all PTB (RERI=2.385); and there were similar results on iatrogenic PTB (aOR11=23.412; 95% CI 8.882-60.71, S=1.18, RERI=3.347). CONCLUSION: Our multicenter study showed, for the first time, that there was a positive additive interaction between no FA supplementation in early pregnancy and preeclampsia which increased the risk of all PTB, especially iatrogenic PTB.

RESUMO

Exposure to bio-aerosols such as pollen can lead to adverse health effects. There is a need for a portable and cost-effective device for long-term monitoring and quantification of various types of pollen. To address this need, we present a mobile and cost-effective label-free sensor that takes holographic images of flowing particulate matter (PM) concentrated by a virtual impactor, which selectively slows down and guides particles larger than 6 µm to fly through an imaging window. The flowing particles are illuminated by a pulsed laser diode, casting their inline holograms on a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor image sensor in a lens-free mobile imaging device. The illumination contains three short pulses with a negligible shift of the flowing particle within one pulse, and triplicate holograms of the same particle are recorded at a single frame before it exits the imaging field-of-view, revealing different perspectives of each particle. The particles within the virtual impactor are localized through a differential detection scheme, and a deep neural network classifies the pollen type in a label-free manner based on the acquired holographic images. We demonstrated the success of this mobile pollen detector with a virtual impactor using different types of pollen (i.e., bermuda, elm, oak, pine, sycamore, and wheat) and achieved a blind classification accuracy of 92.91%. This mobile and cost-effective device weighs ∼700 g and can be used for label-free sensing and quantification of various bio-aerosols over extended periods since it is based on a cartridge-free virtual impactor that does not capture or immobilize PM.

RESUMO

Large-scale outbreaks of green tides in the Yellow Sea affect the development of local tourism and aquaculture and significantly damage the coastal ecological environment. To study the distribution characteristics of green tides and to explore their impact on the environment, a coupled physical-ecological model (LTRANS-GT) based on the Lagrangian TRANSport model (LTRANS) was constructed in this paper to simulate the growth and dissipation process of Ulva prolifera and to obtain its drift trajectory and biomass. The results show that the tracks of the green tide are mainly divided into three categories, namely, northwestward, northward, and eastward. The green tide biomass showed a single-peak with seasonal variation in most years (entering a rapid proliferation period in May-June, reaching a peak biomass after developing for approximately 30 days, then dying out rapidly and basically disappearing by August), and showed a double-peak only in a few years due to extreme weather effects. In 2017, the biomass of U. prolifera was the lowest, with a maximum wet weight of only 24600 tons, while the largest biomass occurred in 2013, with a maximum wet weight of more than 560,000 tons. The interannual difference in the biomass of U. prolifera was mainly due to its initial biomass and the difference in nutrient concentration in the area where it was located. The year in which U. prolifera absorbed the most dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) was 2013, with absorption values of 3973 tons and 114 tons, respectively; and the year in which U. prolifera absorbed the least DIN and DIP was 2017, with absorption values of 172 tons and 5 tons, respectively. During the period of U. prolifera outbreak, the consumption of DIN and DIP in the sea area where it occurred accounted for approximately 43.65% and 0.6% of the total discharge of the rivers, and 26.86% and 6.1% of the atmospheric deposition, respectively. The impact of green tide outbreaks on the annual nitrogen and phosphorus nutrient budget of the entire Yellow Sea was relatively small, but the impact on the area where U. prolifera grows and decays can not be ignored. In dissipation period, the decay of U. prolifera may make DON and DOP double near Shandong coast.

RESUMO

Five undescribed sesquiterpenoids (1-5), and nine known sesquiterpenoids (6-14) were obtained from the fruits of Litsea lancilimba Merr. by LC-MS/MS molecular networking strategies. Litsemene A (1) possessed a unique 8-member ring through unexpected cyclization of the methyl group on C-10 of guaiane. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques including IR, UV, NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and their absolute configurations were assigned by ECD calculations. All isolated sesquiterpenoids were analyzed by bioinformatics and evaluated for their neuroprotective effects against H2O2-induced injury in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells.

RESUMO

Acute gastrointestinal dysfunction is a common and important complication of sepsis. As no exiting formal definition and classification of gastrointestinal dysfunction, most of the treatment strategies for gastrointestinal dysfunction are not based on clinical evidence, but on their own clinical experience. Experts of traditional Chinese medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and Western medicine from various disciplines in Shanghai are organized by the Shanghai Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and the Emergency Department Branch of Shanghai Physicians Association. After repeated discussion, literature search and formulation of the outline, we developed consensus on gastrointestinal dysfunction secondary to sepsis with integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine by consulting extensively on clinical experts in the fields of emergency medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and holding several expert forums and consultation meetings. This clinical expert consensus focused on acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI) classification and inducer of sepsis. In this consensus, the common symptoms, diagnosis, classifications, treatment strategies and suggestions of acute gastrointestinal injury or dysfunction secondary to sepsis were explored from the aspect of both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine.

RESUMO

Four undescribed sesquiterpenes (1-4) and 20 known sesquiterpenes (5-24) were obtained from the fruits of Litsea lancilimba Merr. by Small Molecule Accurate Recognition Technology (SMART). The gross structures and the relative configurations of the new compounds were deduced by spectroscopic data analysis. The absolute configurations were defined by comparison of their experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra data. All compounds were screened for their neuroprotective effects against H2O2-induced SH-SY5Y cells injury. Compounds 2, 3, 7, 8 and 13 exhibited comparable neuroprotective activity to the positive trolox at 50 µM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acupuncture is considered as an effective alternative treatment for post-stroke depression because of its low side effects and easy availability. However, it usually depends on the skills and experience of doctors to choose which acupuncture methods for specific parts. This study compared the effectiveness of different frequently-used acupuncture methods for specific parts in treating post-stroke depression patients by using network meta-analysis. METHODS: We searched eight databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, Wanfang database, Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), VIP Chinese Science, the Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed and Web of Science from the date of database inception to November 29, 2020 to identify eligible RCTs. The trial registers in ClinicalTrials.gov, World Health Organization, and Cochrane trials were searched as a supplement. The effective rate was extracted from the included RCTs as primary outcomes after screening. The network meta-analysis was performed by Review Manager 5.3, Stata14.0, and R 3.6.3. RESULTS: 51 studies were included, which contained 3966 participants among 12 interventions. Based on the ranking probability, scalp acupuncture plus conventional acupuncture was considered to be the most effective method, followed by auricular acupuncture, eye acupuncture, eye acupuncture plus drug, auricular acupuncture plus drug, auricular acupuncture plus conventional acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, scalp acupuncture plus drug, abdominal acupuncture, conventional acupuncture plus drug, drug, conventional acupuncture. CONCLUSIONS: 12 acupuncture methods may be effective and safe in improving the condition of patients with PSD. Higher quality randomized controlled trials need sufficient evidence because the overall quality of included trials can only be classified as low quality. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020177099).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Our previous study found carotid baroreceptor stimulation (CBS) reduces body weight and white adipose tissue (WAT) weight, restores abnormal secretion of adipocytokines and inflammation factors, decreases systolic blood pressure (SBP) by inhibiting activation of sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in obese rats. In this study, we explore effects of CBS on aortic remodeling in obese rats. METHODS AND RESULTS: Rats were fed high-fat diet (HFD) for 16 weeks to induce obesity and underwent either CBS device implantation and stimulation or sham operation at 8 weeks. BP and body weight were measured weekly. RAS activity of WAT, histological, biochemical and functional profiles of aortas were detected after 16 weeks. CBS effectively decreased BP in obese rats, downregulated mRNA expression of angiotensinogen (AGT) and renin in WAT, concentrations of AGT, renin, angiotensin II (Ang II), protein levels of Ang II receptor 1 (AT1R) and Ang II receptor 2 (AT2R) in WAT were declined. CBS inhibited reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, inflammatory response and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in aortas of obese rats, restrained vascular wall thickening and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) phenotypic switching, increased nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, promoted endothelium-dependent vasodilatation by decreasing protein expression of AT1R and leptin receptor (LepR), increasing protein expression of adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1) in aortic VSMCs. CONCLUSION: CBS reduced BP and reversed aortic remodeling in obese rats, the underlying mechanism might be related to the suppressed SNS activity, restored adipocytokine secretion and restrained RAS activity of WAT.

RESUMO

Mushroom Inonotus sanghuang has been characterized as a traditional medicine in China and has pharmacological activities to treat inflammation, gastroenteric dysfunction, and cancer. Recently, we reported the impact of Inonotus sanghuang extract (ISE) from ethyl acetate fraction on bleomycin (BLM)-induced acute lung injury in mice. Here, we aimed to investigate ISE's impact on pulmonary fibrosis using in vivo and in vitro models and the underlying mechanisms. To evaluate pulmonary fibrosis, female C57BL/6 mice fed ISE (0% or 0.6% in diet) for 4 weeks were instilled intratracheally with BLM and then continued the same diet before the end of the experiment. A549 cells were used to evaluate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Feeding ISE improved BLM-treated mice's survival via decreasing lung infiltrating cells and fibrosis, followed by reducing hydroxyproline content, collagen deposition, and mesenchymal markers (α-SMA and vimentin) while increasing epithelial marker E-cadherin. ISE also suppressed the TGF-ß expression, Smad2/3 phosphorylation, and EMT-related transcription factor Snail upon BLM instillation. Iin vitro study demonstrated that ISE inhibited TGF-ß-induced EMT-like phenotype and cell behaviors, the expression of α-SMA and vimentin, and prevented E-cadherin reduction of A549 cells. Consistent with in vivo study, ISE abrogated p-Smad2/3, and Snail expression. Finally, the influence of ISE on EMT was not due to ISE toxicity. Our findings indicated that ISE effectively attenuated BLM-induced lung fibrosis. These ISE properties were thought to be involved in interfering TGF-ß, Smad2/3 phosphorylation, and EMT process, suggesting that the material has the potential health benefits to improve lung fibrosis.

RESUMO

Carotid baroreceptor stimulation (CBS) has been shown to improve cardiac dysfunction and pathological structure remodelling. This study aimed to investigate the effects of CBS on the ventricular electrophysiological properties in canines with chronic heart failure (CHF). Thirty-eight beagles were randomized into control (CON), CHF, low-level CBS (LL-CBS), and moderate-level CBS (ML-CBS) groups. The CHF model was established with 6 weeks of rapid right ventricular pacing (RVP), and concomitant LL-CBS and ML-CBS were applied in the LL-CBS and ML-CBS groups, respectively. After 6 weeks of RVP, ventricular electrophysiological parameters and left stellate ganglion (LSG) neural activity and function were measured. Autonomic neural remodelling in the LSG and left ventricle (LV) and ionic remodelling in the LV were detected. Compared with the CHF group, both LL-CBS and ML-CBS decreased spatial dispersion of action potential duration (APD), suppressed APD alternans, reduced ventricular fibrillation (VF) inducibility, and inhibited enhanced LSG neural discharge and function. Only ML-CBS significantly inhibited ventricular repolarization prolongation and increased the VF threshold. Moreover, ML-CBS inhibited the increase in growth-associated protein-43 and tyrosine hydroxylase-positive nerve fibre densities in LV, increased acetylcholinesterase protein expression in LSG, and decreased nerve growth factor protein expression in LSG and LV. Chronic RVP resulted in a remarkable reduction in protein expression encoding both potassium and L-type calcium currents; these changes were partly amended by ML-CBS and LL-CBS. In conclusion, CBS suppresses VF in CHF canines, potentially by modulating autonomic nerve and ion channels. In addition, the effects of ML-CBS on ventricular electrophysiological properties, autonomic remodelling, and ionic remodelling were superior to those of LL-CBS.

RESUMO

Mushroom Phellinus linteus ("Sanghuang" in Chinese) is a popular medicinal polypore used to treat several disorders through its various biological functions. Inonotus sanghuang is claimed to produce general immune-potentiating and strengthening, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-microbial properties, but its effect on acute lung inflammation and oxidative stress are not clearly understood. To determine the effect and mechanism of the polyphenols-rich ethyl acetate fraction from wild I. sanghuang extract (ISE) on acute lung injury (ALI) induced by bleomycin (BLM), female C57BL/6 mice were fed ISE (0%, 0.15% or 0.6% in diet) for 4 weeks prior to challenge with BLM. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) from lung, spleen and lung tissues were collected on day 3 after BLM challenge for histological, oxidative stress, molecular and biochemical analysis. ISE supplementation improved pathological features in lung injury scores and reduced lung wet-to-dry ratios. Moreover, ISE reduced inflammatory cell infiltration and the pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α in BALF, decreased the MPO activity and the MDA level and increased the SOD, CAT and GSH-Px activities in lung tissue homogenates. Further mechanism analysis demonstrated that dietary ISE inhibited NF-κB signal. Finally, peripheral immune function analysis showed that ISE had less effect on immune response including splenocyte producing inflammatory cytokines and T cell proliferation except for IL-1ß and IL-2. Our findings indicate the possibility that dietary ISE attenuates ALI induced by BLM through correcting the inflammation and oxidation balance at least in part via inhibiting NF-κB signal in vivo, suggesting that ISE might be a valuable medicinal food effective in improving lung injury.

RESUMO

The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) regulates the functions of white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) tightly. Carotid baroreceptor stimulation (CBS) efficiently inhibits SNS activation. We hypothesized that CBS would protect against obesity. We administered CBS to obese rats and measured sympathetic and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/ PPAR pathway responses as well as changes in perirenal WAT (PWAT), epididymal WAT (EWAT), and interscapular BAT (IBAT). CBS alleviated obesity-related metabolic changes, improving insulin resistance; reducing adipocyte hypertrophy, body weight, and adipose tissue weights; and decreasing norepinephrine but increasing acetylcholine in plasma, PWAT, EWAT, and IBAT. CBS also downregulated fatty acid translocase (CD36), fatty acid transport protein (FATP), phosphorylated and total hormone sensitive lipase, phosphorylated and total protein kinase A, and PPARγ in obese rats. Simultaneously, CBS upregulated phosphorylated adipose triglyceride lipase, phosphorylated and total AMPK, and PPARα in PWAT, EWAT, and IBAT. However, BAT and WAT responses differed; although many responses were more sensitive in IBAT, responses of CD36, FATP, and PPARγ were more sensitive in PWAT and EWAT. Overall, CBS decreased chronically activated SNS and ameliorated obesity-related metabolic disorders by regulating the AMPK/PPARα/γ pathway.

RESUMO

Curcumin, isolated from rhizome of turmeric, has been widely studied as a potential therapeutic drug for cancer. However, protective effects of curcumin on chronic heart failure (CHF) have not been fully studied. In the present study, the effects of curcumin on CHF and the underlying mechanisms were investigated. A total of 40 rabbits were randomized into 4 groups: Control rabbits fed with placebo (Con) or curcumin (Concur), CHF rabbits fed with placebo (CHF) or curcumin (CHFcur). CHF was induced by volume and pressure overload. The effects of curcumin on cardiac function and left ventricular (LV) structure were assessed by echocardiography and histology. The effects of curcumin on CHF molecular biomarkers were detected by dihydroethidium and immunohistochemical staining. The effects of curcumin on Dickkopfrelated protein 3 (DKK3), p38 mitogenactivated protein kinase (p38), cJun Nterminal kinase (JNK) and apoptosis signalregulating kinase 1 (ASK1) were assessed by immunohistochemical staining and western blot analysis. Cardiac dysfunction and LV remodeling were successfully produced by ten weeks volume overload and eight weeks pressure overload in the CHF group. Compared with the Con group, the CHF group demonstrated higher levels of CHF molecular biomarkers, a lower level of DKK3 expression and alterations of p38, JNK and ASK1 protein expression. Curcumin alleviated all those abnormalities markedly in the CHFcur group. In summary, curcumin may exert cardioprotective effects by upregulating DKK3, which in turn may inhibit p38 and JNK signaling pathways in an ASK1dependent way. The present study demonstrated that Dickkopf3 upregulation mediates the cardioprotective effects of curcumin on chronic heart failure for the first time.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of Bufei Yishen Granule BFYSG) combined with Shufei Tie acupoint sticking therapy on quality of life of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). METHODS: A multi-center, double-blinded, double-dummy and randomized controlled method was adopted in this trial. A total of 244 patients were randomly assigned to a trial group and a control group according to the random number, each with 122 patients; treatment allocation occurred when the participants met the inclusion criteria and signed the informed consent form. In the trial group, patients were treated with BFYSG combined with "Shufei Tie" acupoint sticking therapy and sustained-release theophylline dummy, and in the control group patients were treated with oral sustained-release theophylline and BFYSG dummy combined with "Shufei Tie" acupoint sticking therapy dummy. The therapeutic course for two groups was 4 months and the follow-up was 6 months. The frequency and duration of acute exacerbation calculated by adding up each frequency and duration of acute exacerbation in treatment and follow-up time respectively, the quality of life measured by the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL)-BREF scale and adult COPD quality of life (COPD-QOL) scale were observed. RESULTS: Among the 244 enrolled patients, 234 were screened for full analysis set (FAS); 221 were screened for per-protocol analysis set (PPS). After 4-month treatment and 6-month follow-up there were differences between the trial group and the control group in frequency of acute exacerbation (FAS: P=0.013; PPS: P=0.046); duration of acute exacerbation (FAS: P=0.005; PPS: P=0.006); scores of physiological, psychological and environment aspects of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire (FAS: P=0.002, P=0.006, P=0.000; PPS: P=0.00, P=0.001, P=0.000); scores of daily living ability, social activity, depression symptoms aspects of the COPD-QOL questionnaire (FAS: P=0.000, P=0.000, P=0.006; PPS: P=0.002, P=0.001, P=0.001). CONCLUSION: BFYSG combined with acupoint sticking therapy could improve the quality of life of patients with stable COPD.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Bu-Fei Yi-Shen granule combined with acupoint sticking therapy has been used in the patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as major traditional interventions for the treatment of the disease. AIM OF THE STUDY: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, the Bu-Fei Yi-Shen granule combined with acupoint sticking therapy in patients with stable COPD. METHODS: A 4-center, double-blinded, double-dummy and randomized controlled method was conducted. 244 patients who were divided into the trial group (n=122, treated with Bu-Fei Yi-Shen granule combined with Shu-Fei Tie acupoint sticking therapy and oral placebo sustained-release theophylline) and the control group (n=122, treated with oral sustained-release theophylline and placebo Bu-Fei Yi-Shen granule combined with placebo Shu-Fei Tie acupoint sticking therapy). The frequency and duration of acute exacerbation, lung function, clinical symptoms, six-minute walking distance, dyspnea grade and quality of life were observed during the 4-month treatment period, and for a further 6 months follow-up. RESULTS: Two hundred and twenty one patients fully completed the study, intent-to-treat (ITT) population was 234 and per-protocol (PP) population was 221. After treatment for 4 months and follow-up for 6 months, there were differences between the experimental and control group in frequency of acute exacerbation (ITT: P=0.007, P=0.013; PP: P=0.045, P=0.046); duration of acute exacerbation (ITT: P=0.030, P=0.005; PP: P=0.048, P=0.006); scores of symptoms (ITT: P=0.000, P=0.000; PP: P=0.000, P=0.000); six-minute walking distance (ITT: P=0.002, P=0.001; PP: P=0.002, P=0.001); dyspnea grade (ITT: P=0.014, P=0.009; PP: P=0.018, P=0.012); physiological aspects (ITT: P=0.003, P=0.000; PP: P=0.001, P=0.000); psychological aspects (ITT: P=0.007, P=0.001; PP: P=0.001, P=0.000) and environment aspects (ITT: P=0.003, P=0.000; PP: P=0.001, P=0.000) of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. There were no differences between the experimental and control group in FVC, FEV1 and FEV1% and adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Bu-Fei Yi-Shen granule combined with acupoint sticking therapy showed beneficial effects for patients with stable COPD in the measured parameters over the 4-month treatment period and 6 months follow-up, with no relevant between-group differences in adverse events.
