The Ministry of Health shares with other State institutions and women's organizations the responsibility of ensuring that care for women and adolescents affected by different types of violence is carried out under a comprehensive approach with special emphasis on achieving their empowerment. Therefore, an effective response to this end, in the consolidation and implementation of self-help groups for women and adolescents (GAAMA) in the Comprehensive and Integrated Health Networks, is the elaboration of the Manual for the training of facilitators of self-help groups of women and adolescents who experience gender violence, whose updating process began by calling on GAAMA facilitators with more than 10 years of experience, who shared their personal learning by facilitating the group, promoting the definition of clear guidelines for strengthening of these guidelines. The document describes different methods and concepts for the development of skills within the learning framework. The socialization of this Manual will be carried out through workshops aimed at multidisciplinary health personnel and institutions related to the comprehensive approach to women and adolescents affected by all forms of violence. The methodology used for the training of GAAMA facilitators allows the development of skills to understand the phenomenon of violence, with greater emphasis on violence that affects adolescents and women, group management, and knowledge of the legal framework that supports this approach. In this sense, the GAAMA provide a space to socialize and raise awareness about situations of violence that have directly affected them and start the process of helping themselves and at the same time helping other women and adolescents

The system to evaluate psychological tests (Satepsi) received notoriety among Brazilians and foreigners for offering a complex system of qualification of psychological tests, which is rarely seen worldwide. Its development depended on an autarchy (which financed, standardized, and maintains it) and on researchers teaching psychological assessment, who brought their expertise to the area so its parameters could be fully established. After two decades of its launch, Satepsi was the subject of articles, chapters, lives, and digital dialogues, which usually highlighted the Resolutions of the Federal Council of Psychology that normatize psychological evaluation and their impacts, such as the increase in the number of qualified Brazilian tests. This study aims to mention its construction in the light of the authors who experienced Satepsi in different functions and times, giving special attention to Projective Methods, whose history remains to be shown.(AU)

ABSTRACT Background: in technical science careers that are studied in medical universities, the Study of Ideology and Politics subject is taught with the aim of teaching the historical-logical evolution of the Cuban people, and its example and transcendence for the world, to the students. Objective: to create a supplementary notebook for the independent work of students with activities of developmental character and learning evaluation. Methods: at the "Dr. Eusebio Hernández Pérez" Medical Sciences Subsidiary in Colón, Matanzas, a development research was carried out during the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic years. Theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic method, inductive-deductive method and systemic-structural method; and empirical methods: documentary analysis of the program and the methodological guidelines, and an interview survey with teachers to verify whether the recommended bibliography was sufficient for the fulfillment of the foreseen objectives and whether it helps the independent study of the subject contents. The supplementary notebook was evaluated according to the criteria of specialists. Results: for this study a bibliographical deficit was evident, contents were scattered in several texts which made the independent work of students difficult, so a supplementary notebook which contains three units and several activities was made in such a way the objectives of the program were fulfilled. Conclusions: the supplementary notebook contributes to solve the insufficiencies were found and it was valued by specialists as pertinent, novel and useful; it is an essential tool to support the independent work of students and learning assessment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Self-management of symptoms related to cancer and its treatment is important for maintaining treatment regimens and improving outcomes. PURPOSE: To determine factors associated with engagement in a symptom self-management intervention among patients initiating oral anticancer treatment. METHODS: This secondary analysis included 127 patients randomized to the medication adherence reminder and symptom management intervention in a recently completed trial. Patients were recruited from six Comprehensive Cancer Centers, interviewed at intake, and mailed a Symptom Management Toolkit (Toolkit) with self-care management strategies for 18 symptoms. During eight automated telephone weekly calls, patients were asked to use the Toolkit to manage elevated symptoms. Toolkit use and symptoms were tracked weekly, and generalized linear mixed-effects models were used to determine factors predictive of Toolkit use. General linear modeling was used to relate the Toolkit use during intervention to postintervention symptom severity. RESULTS: Better cognitive function at intake into the trial and higher symptom burden were predictive of the patients' initial decision to try the Toolkit during Week 1. In subsequent weeks, Toolkit use in the previous week and worsening of symptoms were associated with greater odds of Toolkit use. The extent of Toolkit use modified the relationship between intake and 8 week symptom severity: among patients with higher levels of severity at intake, use of the Toolkit conferred greater benefit at 8 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: Patients make realistic decisions regarding when to use a self-directed approach to self-management and are likely to use strategies when their symptoms are higher and to forego use once symptoms subside. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT02043184.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Proper use of a child health handbook is an important indicator of the quality of care provided to children at healthcare services. This study aimed to evaluate the use of child health surveillance tool (by health professionals?), especially focusing on growth. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study carried out in the context of the Family Health Strategy in two municipalities in Paraíba, Brazil. METHODS: Three hundred and twenty-one children under five years of age from areas covered by health workers were included in the study. Mothers answered a questionnaire asking for information on sociodemographic characteristics. Growth charts, records of iron and vitamin A supplementation and notes on immunization schedules registered in the instrument were analyzed. In the case of children for whom the third version of the child health handbook was used, the association between completion of this handbook and sociodemographic characteristics was analyzed. RESULTS: All the parameters studied showed high frequencies of inadequate data entry, ranging from 41.1% for the weight-versus- age chart to 95.3% for the body mass index-versus-age chart. Higher frequency of inadequate data entry was found among children aged 25 months and over and among those living in areas of these municipalities with minimal numbers of professionals in the healthcare teams. CONCLUSIONS: The use of a child health handbook to monitor children's growth in the municipalities studied appeared to be faulty. Data entry to this instrument was better at locations with larger healthcare teams.

RESUMO

PROBLEM ADDRESSED: In recent years, there has been increased recognition in Canada of the need to strengthen mental health services in primary health care (PHC). Collaborative models, including partnerships between PHC and specialized mental health care providers, have emerged as effective ways for improving access to mental health care and strengthening clinical capacity. Primary health care physicians and other health professionals are well positioned to facilitate the early detection of mental disorders and provide appropriate treatment and follow-up care, helping to tackle stigma toward mental health problems in the process. OBJECTIVE OF PROGRAM: This 4-year mental health and addiction capacity-building initiative for PHC addressed competency needs at the individual, interprofessional, and organizational levels. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The program included 5 key components: a needs assessment; interprofessional education; mentoring; development of organizational mental health and addiction action plans for each participating community health centre; and creation of an advanced resource manual to support holistic and culturally competent collaborative mental health care. A comprehensive evaluation framework using a mixed-methods approach was applied from the initiation of the program. A total of 184 health workers in 10 community health centres in Ontario participated in the program, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and administrative staff. CONCLUSION: Evaluation findings demonstrated high satisfaction with the training, improved competencies, and individual behavioural and organizational changes. By building capacity to integrate holistic and culturally appropriate care, this competency-based program is a promising model with strong potential to be adapted and scaled up for PHC organizations nationally and internationally.

RESUMO

This article describes a 10-session group-based Mindfulness Program for people with mild to moderate dementia. It aims to equip people with dementia with skills to manage psychological distress, with support from carers. The Mindfulness Program was developed through reviews of existing literature, consultation with experts, and a focus group with people with dementia. In a randomized controlled feasibility and pilot trial with people with mild to moderate dementia in care homes, it was found to significantly increase quality of life. The manual presented here is designed to be administered flexibly to promote participants' personhood. The protocol is designed for use by therapists with experience in practicing mindfulness meditation.

Since the creation of the qualification of Spanish practitioner 'practicante' in 1857 in Spain, its teaching was regulated by several curriculums until the unification in 1953 of the three auxiliary degrees in medicine ("practicante", midwife and nurse), in the technical health assistant (ATS). This paper analyzes the socialization of "practicantes" through the various editions of "El Manual del Practicante" (1907, 1922, 1934 and 1942), prepared by the physician in charge of their formal education in Zaragoza, Felipe Sáenz de Cenzano. After analyzing its structure and content, especially the basis of their knowledge and technical skills or nursing care, we highlight the differences observed in the manuals and the legally established, which were always more restrictive. In summary, it be outlined the configuration of two different work settings, the city and the rural area, that projected two different professional images

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patient education is an important part of holistic care for patients with chronic diseases. With the success of the Heart Manual, it was felt there is a strong need to develop such a manual for those with pulmonary hypertension (PH) - the Pulmonary Hypertension Manual (PulHMan). This was developed through a qualitative methodology in order to ensure the needs of the patients were being met. The impact of the PulHMan on awareness about exercise-related benefits and PH are not known. Therefore the aim of this study was to assess the effects of the PulHMan on improving awareness among individuals with PH. METHODS: A repeat cross sectional study was carried out on 30 patients with PH to assess the effects of using the PulHMan on awareness of exercise-related benefits in PH. Awareness was assessed from a self-developed and validated questionnaire that included components of PH and exercise related components. RESULTS: Thirty patients with PH (mean right ventricular systolic pressure and six minute walk distance of 89.2±4.1mm Hg and 322.8±102m respectively) were included in the study. At baseline, it was seen that there was a low awareness regarding the benefits of exercise for PH. However, they were aware of the general health benefits of walking. After three months, it was seen that the PulHMan improved awareness on the benefits of exercising. Despite a low number willing to exercise (2/30) and participate in a home-based program (2/30), after using the PulHMan for three months, there was an improvement in those willing to exercise and participate in a home-based program (22/30 and 25/30 respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The PulHMan was seen to improve awareness regarding the exercise-related benefits among patients with PH. More studies are needed to determine if this change in awareness translates into a behavioural change for those with PH.

OBJECTIVE: the aim of this research is to review the content, and describe the structural and contextual discourse around planned birthplace in six clinical practice manuals used to care for pregnant Aboriginal women in Australia׳s remote Northern Territory. The purpose is to better understand where, how and why planned birthplaces for Aboriginal women have changed over time. METHODS: content and discourse analysis was applied to the written texts pertaining to maternal health care and the results placed within a theoretical framework of Daviss׳s Logic. FINDINGS: the manuals demonstrate the use of predominantly scientific and clinical logic to sanction birthplace. Planned birthplace choices have declined over time, with hospital now represented as the only place to give birth. This is in opposition to Aboriginal women׳s longstanding requests and is not supported by robust scientific evidence. CONCLUSIONS: despite scientific and clinical logics dominating the sanctioning of birthplace for Aboriginal women, conjecture is apparent between assumed logics and evidence. There needs to be further critical reflection on why Aboriginal women do not have planned birthplace choices, and these reasons, once identified, debated and addressed both in research agendas and policy re-development.
