RESUMEN

The previous research addressed the waste problem of agriculture and forestry residues by exploring the efficient utilization of liquefied soybean straw in supercapacitor. The structures of the liquefied soybean straw were controlled by coupling microwave hydrothermal treatment with carbonization under the influence of a C3N4 bifunctional template. What's more, C3N4 could effectively regulate the pore structures and provide an effective N active site of carbon materials C3N4. The obtained N-SLR Carbon-700 possess a specific surface area of up to 1593.7 m2 g-1, and the pore size is mainly concentrated in the range of 1.8-2.5 nm, providing efficient ions transmission channels and storage space. Its specific capacitance is up to 261.5F g-1 (current density of 0.5A g-1), and the capacity retention is 74.04% when the current density is expanded by 20 times. In the two-electrode system, the energy density of N-SLR Carbon-700 could reach to 31.3 W h kg-1 at a power density of 360 W kg-1, as well as the energy surface density is maintained at 69% when the power density is increased by a factor of 20. This work enhances effectively the charging and discharging stability and capacitance value of carbon-based supercapacitor.

RESUMEN

IMPORTANCE: Olfactory dysfunction is among the earliest signs of many age-related neurodegenerative diseases and has been associated with increased mortality in older adults; however, its genetic basis remains largely unknown. OBJECTIVE: To identify the genetic loci associated with olfactory dysfunction in the general population. DESIGN SETTING AND PARTIICIPANTS: This genome-wide association study meta-analysis (GWMA) included participants of European ancestry (N = 22,730) enrolled in four different large population-based studies, followed by a multi-ancestry GWMA including participants of African ancestry (N = 1,030). The data analysis was performed from March 2023 through June 2024. EXPOSURES: Genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphisms. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Olfactory dysfunction was the outcome and assessed using a 12-item smell identification test. RESULTS: GWMA revealed a novel genome-wide significant locus (tagged by rs11228623 at 11q12) associated with olfactory dysfunction. Gene-based analysis revealed a high enrichment for olfactory receptor genes in this region. Phenome-wide association studies demonstrated associations between genetic variants related to olfactory dysfunction and blood cell counts, kidney function, skeletal muscle mass, cholesterol levels and cardiovascular disease. Using individual-level data, we also confirmed and quantified the strength of these associations on a phenotypic level. Moreover, employing two-sample Mendelian Randomization analyses, we found evidence for causal associations between olfactory dysfunction and these phenotypes. CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide novel insights into the genetic architecture of the sense of smell and highlight its importance for many aspects of human health.

RESUMEN

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a common malignancy whose prognosis and treatment outcome are influenced by many factors. Some studies have found that tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) in cancer may contribute to prognosis and the prediction of immunotherapy efficacy However, the combined role of TLSs in NSCLC remains unclear. We accessed The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases to obtain mRNA sequencing data and clinical information as the TCGA cohort, and used our own sample of 53 advanced NSCLC as a study cohort. The samples were divided into TLS+ and TLS- groups by pathological tissue sections. Patients of the TLS+ group had a better OS (p = 0.022), PFS (p = 0.042), and DSS (p = 0.004) in the TCGA cohort, and the results were confirmed by the study cohort (PFS, p = 0.012). Furthermore, our result showed that the count and size of TLSs are closely associated with the efficacy of immunotherapy. In addition, the TLS+ group was associated with better immune status and lower tumor mutation load. In the tumor microenvironment (TME), the expression levels of CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells of different phenotypes were associated with TLSs. Overall, TLSs are a strong predictor of survival and immunotherapeutic efficacy in advanced NSCLC, and T cell-rich TLSs suggest a more ordered and active immune response site, which aids in the decision-making and application of immunotherapy in the clinic.

RESUMEN

Tin phosphide has gained extensive attention as a prospective anode for lithium/potassium ion batteries because of its high theoretical capacity. Nevertheless, the fast capacity fading, which is induced by the huge volume expansion and poor electrical conductivity during cycling, severely restricts its practical applications. In this work, a SnP3-CNTs/KB composite with a SnP3 content as high as 90 wt% was successfully synthesized by a two-step ball milling method. SnP3 nanoparticles were tightly encapsulated in multi-geometric composite carbon layers to efficiently relieve the volume changes and enhance conductivity. Specifically, the resulting SnP3-CNTs/KB anode showed a specific capacity up to 998.6 mA h g-1 after 100 cycles at 50 mA g-1 and 810.4 mA h g-1 after 500 cycles at 1000 mA g-1 for lithium ion batteries. For potassium ion batteries, a high reversible capacity of 200.2 mA h g-1 was achieved after 200 cycles at 1000 mA g-1. This work affords a new insight for exploring excellent support structures of tin phosphide-based anodes.

RESUMEN

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a global health burden characterized by persistent low mood, deprivation of pleasure, recurrent thoughts of death, and physical and cognitive deficits. The current understanding of the pathophysiology of MDD is lacking, resulting in few rapid and effective antidepressant therapies. Recent studies have pointed to the sigma-1 (σ-1) receptor as a potential rapid antidepressant target; σ-1 agonists have shown promise in a variety of preclinical depression models. Hypidone hydrochloride (YL-0919), an independently developed antidepressant by our institute with faster onset of action and low rate of side effects, has recently emerged as a highly selective σ-1 receptor agonist; however, its underlying astrocyte-specific mechanism is unknown. In this study, we investigated the effect of YL-0919 treatment on gene expression in the prefrontal cortex of depressive-like mice by single-cell RNA sequencing. Furthermore, we knocked down σ-1 receptors on astrocytes in the medial prefrontal cortex of mice to explore the effects of YL-0919 on depressive-like behavior and neuroinflammation in mice. Our results demonstrated that astrocyte-specific knockdown of σ-1 receptor resulted in depressive-like behavior in mice, which was reversed by YL-0919 administration. In addition, astrocytic σ-1 receptor deficiency led to activation of the NF-κB inflammatory pathway, and crosstalk between reactive astrocytes and activated microglia amplified neuroinflammation, exacerbating stress-induced neuronal apoptosis. Furthermore, the depressive-like behavior induced by astrocyte-specific knockdown of the σ-1 receptor was improved by a selective NF-κB inhibitor, JSH-23, in mice. Our study not only reaffirms the σ-1 receptor as a key target of the faster antidepressant effect of YL-0919, but also contributes to the development of astrocytic σ-1 receptor-based novel drugs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Olfactory impairment is common in older adults and may be associated with adverse cardiovascular health; however, empirical evidence is sparse. We examined olfaction in relation to the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and congestive heart failure (CHF). METHODS AND RESULTS: This study included 2537 older adults (aged 75.6±2.8 years) from the Health ABC (Health, Aging, and Body Composition) study with olfaction assessed by the 12-item Brief Smell Identification Test in 1999 to 2000, defined as poor (score ≤8), moderate (9-10), or good (11-12). The outcomes were incident CHD, stroke, and CHF. During up to a 12-year follow-up, 353 incident CHD, 258 stroke, and 477 CHF events were identified. Olfaction was statistically significantly associated with incident CHF, but not with CHD or stroke. After adjusting for demographics, risk factors, and biomarkers of CHF, the cause-specific hazard ratio (HR) of CHF was 1.32 (95% CI, 1.05-1.66) for moderate and 1.28 (95% CI, 1.01-1.64) for poor olfaction. These associations were robust in preplanned subgroup analyses by age, sex, race, and prevalent CHD/stroke. While the subgroup results were not statistically significantly different, the association of olfaction with CHF appeared to be evident among participants who reported very good to excellent health (HR, 1.47 [95% CI, 1.01-2.14] for moderate; and 1.76 [95% CI, 1.20-2.58] for poor olfaction), but not among those with fair to poor self-reported health (HR, 1.04 [95% CI, 0.64-1.70] for moderate; and 0.92 [95% CI, 0.58-1.47] for poor olfaction). CONCLUSIONS: In community-dwelling older adults, a single olfaction test was associated with a long-term risk for incident CHF, particularly among those reporting very good to excellent health.

RESUMEN

In this paper, we provide a novel electrode switch (ES) method to improve the stability of the alkaline electrolyzer toward water splitting. The voltage of the alkaline electrolyzer consisting of commercial Ni mesh electrodes utilizing the ES mode exhibits extreme stability because highly active Ni oxide(hydroxide) with oxygen defects is in situ formed during the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) polarization process.

RESUMEN

Crack-based flexible strain sensors with ultra-high sensitivity under tiny strain are highly desired for environmental perception and motion detection of novel flexible and miniature robots. However, previously reported methods for fabricating crack patterns have often sacrificed the cyclic stability of the sensor, leading to a trade-off relationship between the sensitivity and the cyclic stability. Here, a universal and simple strategy based on fatigue loading with an ultra-large cumulative strain of up to ∼1.2 × 107%, rather than the traditionally quasi-static pre-overloading methods, is proposed to introduce channel cracks in the sensing layer without sacrificing the cyclic stability. The developed flexible strain sensors exhibit high strain-sensitivity (gauge factor = 5798) under tiny strain (< 3%), high cyclic stability (15 000 cycles) and a low strain detecting limit (0.02%). Furthermore, a leaf-like mechanosensor is developed using the fatigue crack-based strain sensor for the realization of multifunctional applications in environment perception and micro-motion detection. Brilliant airflow sensing performance with a wide sensing range (0.93-11.93 m s-1) and a fast response time (0.28 s) for amphibious applications is demonstrated. This work provides a new strategy for overcoming limits of crack-based flexible strain sensors and the developed leaf-like mechanosensor shows great application potential in miniature and flexible reconnaissance robots.

RESUMEN

In order to prepare biomass-derived carbon materials with high specific capacitance at a low activation temperature (≤700 °C), nanoporous carbon materials were prepared from zanthoxylum bungeanum peels and seeds via the pyrolysis and KOH-activation processes. The results show that the optimal activation temperatures are 700 °C and 600 °C for peels and seeds. Benefiting from the hierarchical pore structure (micropores, mesopores, and macropores), the abundant heteroatoms (N, S, and O) containing functional groups, and plentiful electrochemical active sites, the PAC-700 and SAC-600 derive the large capacities of ~211.0 and ~219.7 F g-1 at 1.0 A g-1 in 6 M KOH within the three-electrode configuration. Furthermore, the symmetrical supercapacitors display a high energy density of 22.9 and 22.4 Wh kg-1 at 7500 W kg-1 assembled with PAC-700 and SAC-600, along with exceptional capacitance retention of 99.1% and 93.4% over 10,000 cycles at 1.0 A g-1. More significantly, the contribution here will stimulate the extensive development of low-temperature activation processes and nanoporous carbon materials for electrochemical energy storage and beyond.

RESUMEN

Commercial nickel foam (NF), which is composed of numerous interconnected ligaments and hundred-micron pores, is widely acknowledged as a current collector/electrode material for catalysis, sensing, and energy storage applications. However, the commonly used NF often does not work satisfactorily due to its smooth surface and hollow structure of the ligaments. Herein, a gas-phase-induced engineering, two-step gaseous oxidation-reduction (GOR) is presented to directly transform the thin-walled hollow ligament of NF into a three-dimensional (3D) nanoporous prism structure, resulting in the fabrication of a unique hierarchical porous nickel foam (HPNF). This 3D nanoporous architecture is achieved by utilizing the spontaneous reconstruction of nickel atoms during volume expansion and contraction in the GOR process. The process avoids the involution of acid-base corrosion and sacrificial components, which are facile, environmentally friendly, and suitable for large-scale fabrication. Furthermore, MnO2 is electrochemically deposited on the HPNF to form a supercapacitor electrode (HPNF/MnO2). Because of the fully open structure for ion transport, superhydrophilic properties, and the increased contact area between MnO2 and the current collector, the HPNF/MnO2 electrode exhibits a high specific capacitance of 997.5 F g-1 at 3 A g-1 and remarkable cycling stability with 99.6% capacitance retention after 20000 cycles in 0.1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte, outperforming most MnO2-based supercapacitor electrodes.

RESUMEN

The production of hydrogen through seawater electrolysis has recently garnered increasing concern. However, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by alkaline seawater electrocatalysis is severely impeded by the slow H2O adsorption and H* binding kinetics at industrial current densities. Herein, a face-centered cubic/hexagonal close packed (fcc/hcp) NiRu alloy heterojunction was fabricated on Ni foam (N doped NiRu-inf/NF) by a low-temperature nitrogen plasma activation. Simultaneously, nitrogen atoms are introduced into the alloy to facilitate d-p hybridization. When N doped NiRu-inf/NF is integrated into a dual-electrode cell for urea-assisted seawater electrolysis, it achieves 100 mA cm-2 with an ultra-low voltage of 1.36 V and excellent stability. Density functional theory (DFT) verifies that the robust d-p hybridization among Ni, Ru and N exhibits more energy level matching for H2O molecule adsorption at the Ru sites, while simultaneously reducing the interaction between H* and Ni sites in N-doped NiRu-inf.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Accurate bowel preparation assessment is essential for determining colonoscopy screening intervals. Patients with suboptimal bowel preparation are at a high risk of missing >5 mm adenomas and should undergo an early repeat colonoscopy. In this study, we used artificial intelligence (AI) to evaluate bowel preparation and validated the ability of the system to accurately identify patients who are at high risk of having >5 mm adenomas missed due to inadequate bowel preparation. METHODS: This prospective, single-center, observational study was conducted at the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, from October 8, 2021, to November 9, 2022. Eligible patients who underwent screening colonoscopy were consecutively enrolled. The AI assessed bowel preparation using the e-Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (e-BBPS) while endoscopists made evaluations using BBPS. If both BBPS and e-BBPS deemed preparation adequate, the patient immediately underwent a second colonoscopy; otherwise, the patient underwent bowel re-cleansing before the second colonoscopy. RESULTS: Among the 393 patients, 72 adenomas >5 mm in size were detected; 27 adenomas >5 mm in size were missed. In unqualified-AI patients, the >5 mm adenoma miss rate (AMR) was significantly higher than in qualified-AI patients (35.71% vs 13.19% [P = .0056]; odds ratio [OR], .2734 [95% CI, .1139-.6565]), as were the AMR (50.89% vs 20.79% [P < .001]; OR, .2532 [95% CI, .1583-.4052]) and >5 mm polyp miss rate (35.82% vs 19.48% [P = .0152]; OR, .4335 [95% CI, .2288-.8213]). CONCLUSIONS: This study confirmed that patients classified as inadequate by AI exhibited an unacceptable >5 mm AMR, providing key evidence for implementing AI in guiding bowel re-cleansing and potentially standardizing future colonoscopy screening. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we examine how impairments in vision, hearing, touch, and olfaction relate to depression in older adults, considering both individual and multisensory impairments (MSIs). STUDY DESIGN: Analysis of cross-sectional data from a longitudinal investigation involving black and white older adults aged 70 to 79 at enrollment. SETTING: We studied 1640 black and white participants in the Health ABC study using complete sensory evaluation data from years 3 to 5. METHODS: Our MSI assessment utilized data obtained for visual acuity, hearing perception, olfactory performance, and tactile function. We performed multivariable logistic regression analyses to examine the associations between the presence of individual and MSIs and depression which was defined as the presence of antidepressants prescribed for depression, or a Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale score of greater than 10. RESULTS: We observed a possible dose-response relationship between the number of sensory impairments and depression. In adjusted models, when compared to no impairments, vision (odds ratio [OR] = 1.45, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.09-1.93) and hearing impairments (OR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.11-1.99) were significantly associated with depression, whereas olfaction (OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 0.83-1.47) and tactile impairments (OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 0.96-1.70) were not. Participants with 3 sensory impairments had a higher rate of depression (OR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.22-3.54) compared to those without impairments, and this risk increased further for those with 4 sensory impairments (OR = 2.95, 95% CI: 1.48-5.88). CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that individuals with MSI represent a high-risk population for depression, warranting close monitoring to screen for depression. The study emphasizes the importance of considering multiple sensory impairments in the context of mental health and supports the early identification and monitoring of depression in this population.

RESUMEN

Alzheimer's disease (AD), referring to a gradual deterioration in cognitive function, including memory loss and impaired thinking skills, has emerged as a substantial worldwide challenge with profound social and economic implications. As the prevalence of AD continues to rise and the population ages, there is an imperative demand for innovative imaging techniques to help improve our understanding of these complex conditions. Photoacoustic (PA) imaging forms a hybrid imaging modality by integrating the high-contrast of optical imaging and deep-penetration of ultrasound imaging. PA imaging enables the visualization and characterization of tissue structures and multifunctional information at high resolution and, has demonstrated promising preliminary results in the study and diagnosis of AD. This review endeavors to offer a thorough overview of the current applications and potential of PA imaging on AD diagnosis and treatment. Firstly, the structural, functional, molecular parameter changes associated with AD-related brain imaging captured by PA imaging will be summarized, shaping the diagnostic standpoint of this review. Then, the therapeutic methods aimed at AD is discussed further. Lastly, the potential solutions and clinical applications to expand the extent of PA imaging into deeper AD scenarios is proposed. While certain aspects might not be fully covered, this mini-review provides valuable insights into AD diagnosis and treatment through the utilization of innovative tissue photothermal effects. We hope that it will spark further exploration in this field, fostering improved and earlier theranostics for AD.

RESUMEN

Cancer is commonly considered as one of the most severe diseases, posing a significant threat to human health and society due to various serious challenges. These challenges include difficulties in accurate diagnosis and a high propensity to form metastasis. Tissue biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosing and subtyping cancer. However, concerns arise from its invasive nature and the potential risk of metastasis during these complex diagnostic procedures. Meanwhile, liquid biopsy has recently witnessed the rapid advancements with the emergence of three prominent detection biomarkers: circulating tumor cells (CTCs), circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), and exosomes. Whereas, the very low abundance of CTCs combined with the instability of ctDNA intensify the challenges and decrease the accuracy of these two biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. While exosomes have gained widespread recognition as a promising biomarker in liquid biopsy due to their relatively low-invasive detection method, excellent biostability, rich resources, high abundance, and ability to provide valuable information about cancer. Therefore, it is crucial to systematically summarize recent advancements mainly in exosome-based detection methods for early cancer diagnosis. Specifically, this review will primarily focus on label-based and label-free strategies for detecting cancer using exosomes. We anticipate that this comprehensive analysis will enhance readers' understanding of the significance and value of exosomes in the fields of cancer diagnosis and therapy.

RESUMEN

"Driver gene-negative" lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) was of rare treatment options and a poor prognosis. Presently, for them, few biomarkers are available for stratification analysis to make appropriate treatment strategy. This study aimed to develop a DNA-methylome-based signature to realize the precise risk-stratifying. Here, an Illumina MethylationEPIC Beadchip was applied to obtain differentially methylated CpG sites (DMCs). A four-CpG-based signature, named as TLA, was successfully established, whose prognosis-predicting power was well verified in one internal (n = 78) and other external (n = 110) validation cohorts. Patients with high-risk scores had shorter overall survival (OS) in all cohorts [hazard ratio (HR): 11.79, 5.16 and 2.99, respectively]. Additionally, it can effectively divide patients into low-risk and high-risk groups, with significantly different OS in the diverse subgroups stratified by the standard clinical parameters. As an independent prognostic factor, TLA may assist in improving the nomogram's 5-year OS-predicting ability (AUC 0.756, 95% CI:0.695-0.816), superior to TNM alone (AUC 0.644, 95% CI: 0.590-0.698). Additionally, the relationship of TLA-related genes, TAC1, LHX9, and ALX1, with prognosis and tumour invasion made them serve as potential therapy targets for driver gene-negative LUAD.

RESUMEN

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a significant contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality. The Sigma-1 (σ-1) receptor has received increasing attention in recent years because of its ability to link different signaling systems and exert its function in the brain through chaperone actions, especially in neuropsychiatric disorders. YL-0919, a novel σ-1 receptor agonist developed by our institute, has shown antidepressive and anxiolytic effects in a variety of animal models, but effects on PPD have not been revealed. In the present study, excitatory/inhibitory signaling in the hippocampus was reflected by GABA and glutamate and their associated excitatory-inhibitory receptor proteins, the HPA axis hormones in the hippocampus were assessed by ELISA. Finally, immunofluorescence for markers of newborn neuron were undertaken in the dentate gyri, along with dendritic spine staining and dendritic arborization tracing. YL-0919 rapidly improves anxiety and depressive-like behavior in PPD-like mice within one week, along with normalizing the excitation/inhibition signaling as well as the HPA axis activity. YL-0919 rescued the decrease in hippocampal dendritic complexity and spine density induced by estrogen withdrawal. The study results suggest that YL-0919 elicits a therapeutic effect on PPD-like mice; therefore, the σ-1 receptor may be a novel promising target for PPD treatment in the future.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the leading cancer worldwide. Microbial agents have been considered to contribute to the pathogenesis of different disease. But the underlying relevance between CRC and microbiota remain unclear. METHODS: We dissected the fecal microbiome structure and genomic and transcriptomic profiles of matched tumor and normal mucosa tissues from 41 CRC patients. Of which, the relationship between CRC-associated bacterial taxa and their significantly correlated somatic mutated gene was investigated by exome sequencing technology. Differentially expressed functional genes in CRC were clustered according to their correlation with differentially abundant species, following by annotation with DAVID. The composition of immune and stromal cell types was identified by XCELL. RESULTS: We identified a set of 22 microbial gut species associated with CRC and estimate the relative abundance of KEGG ontology categories. Next, the interactions between CRC-related gut microbes and clinical phenotypes were evaluated. 4 significantly mutated gene: TP53, APC, KRAS, SMAD4 were pointed out and the associations with cancer related microbes were identified. Among them, Fusobacterium nucleatum positively corelated with different host metabolic pathways. Finally, we revealed that Fusobacterium nucleatum modified the tumor immune environment by TNFSF9 gene expression. CONCLUSION: Collectively, our multi-omics data could help identify novel biomarkers to inform clinical decision-making in the detection and diagnosis of CRC.

RESUMEN

The development of a strong and tough conductive hydrogel capable of meeting the strict requirements of the electrode of a hydrogel-based triboelectric nanogenerator (H-TENG) remains an enormous challenge. Herein, a robust conductive polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel is designed via a three-step method: (1) grafting with 3,4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde, (2) metal complexation using ferric chloride (FeCl3) and (3) salting-out using sodium citrate. The hydrogel contains robust crystalline PVA domains and reversible/high-density non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions and Fe3+-catechol complexations. Benefiting from the crystalline domains, the hydrogel can resist external forces to the hydrogel network; meanwhile, the reversible/high-density of non-covalent interactions can impart gradual and persistent energy dissipation during deformation. The hydrogel possesses multiple cross-linked networks, with 6.47 MPa tensile stress, 1000 % strain, 35.24 MJ/m3 toughness and 37.59 kJ/m2 fracture energy. Furthermore, the inter-connected porous hydrogel has an ideal structure for ionic-conducing channels. The hydrogel is assembled into an H-TENG, which can generate open circuit voltage of âˆ¼ 150 V, short-circuit current of âˆ¼ 3.0 µA, with superb damage immunity. Subsequently, road traffic monitoring systems are innovatively developed and demonstrated by using the H-TENG. This study provides a novel strategy to prepare superiorly strong and tough hydrogels that can meet the high demand for H-TENGs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet score lowers blood pressure (BP). We examined interactions between genotype and the DASH diet score in relation to systolic BP. METHODS: We analyzed up to 9 420 585 single nucleotide polymorphisms in up to 127 282 individuals of 6 population groups (91% of European population) from the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology consortium (n=35 660) and UK Biobank (n=91 622) and performed European population-specific and cross-population meta-analyses. RESULTS: We identified 3 loci in European-specific analyses and an additional 4 loci in cross-population analyses at Pinteraction<5e-8. We observed a consistent interaction between rs117878928 at 15q25.1 (minor allele frequency, 0.03) and the DASH diet score (Pinteraction=4e-8; P for heterogeneity, 0.35) in European population, where the interaction effect size was 0.42±0.09 mm Hg (Pinteraction=9.4e-7) and 0.20±0.06 mm Hg (Pinteraction=0.001) in Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology and the UK Biobank, respectively. The 1 Mb region surrounding rs117878928 was enriched with cis-expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) variants (P=4e-273) and cis-DNA methylation quantitative trait loci variants (P=1e-300). Although the closest gene for rs117878928 is MTHFS, the highest narrow sense heritability accounted by single nucleotide polymorphisms potentially interacting with the DASH diet score in this locus was for gene ST20 at 15q25.1. CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated gene-DASH diet score interaction effects on systolic BP in several loci. Studies with larger diverse populations are needed to validate our findings.
