Os invólucros da memória na ficção de Carlos Heitor Cony

Este trabalho enfoca a obra de Carlos Heitor Cony atendo-se à percepção da passagem do tempo pelas personagens de ficção. No primeiro capítulo, são apontados temas recorrentes ao longo da trajetória intelectual do autor. O ceticismo e o relativismo, conjugados, resultam em uma visão de mundo permeada pela negatividade. Faz-se uma apresentação breve dos diversos romances, desde o livro de estréia, O ventre (1958), até O indigitado (2001). As referências à produção não-ficcional prestam-se a situar o conjunto da obra no tempo histórico, identificando linhas de força do pensamento e da cultura do século XX. A revisão bibliográfica perpassa a ainda pequena fortuna crítica da obra de Cony. No segundo capítulo, a ênfase vai para a análise da temporalidade, principalmente no romance Matéria de memória (1962). A relação entre matéria e memória é analisada, com destaque para os leitmotive "fantasma" e "embrulho". Tomam-se como base para a análise quatro categorias estabelecidas por santo Agostinho ao estudar a temporalidade: dissolução, agonia, banimento e noite. O terceiro capítulo aborda a correspondência entre temporalidade e espaço ficcional, destacando os motivos "casa" e "cão". Neste capítulo, são analisados dois romances que tematizam a dissolução das relações amorosas: Antes, o verão (1964) e A casa do poeta trágico (1997).(AU)

This thesis is a study on Carlos Heitor Cony´s work. Such study focuses on the fictional characters' perception of the passing of time. The first chapter presents some recurring themes on the author´s intellectual trajectory. Skepticism and relativism, together, end up in a world view permeated by negativity. Many of Cony´s novels are presented here in brief, starting from his opening book, O ventre (1958) and finishing with O indigitado (2001). References to Cony's non-fictional works are used here as ways to historically contextualize his whole work and to identify some of the main trends in the twentieth century thinking and culture. The bibliographic review presented in this thesis deals with Cony's critical fortune, yet small. The focus of the second chapter is on the analysis of temporality, especially in the novel Matéria de memória (1962). The relationship between matter and memory is analyzed by bringing the leitmotive "fantasma" (ghost) and "embrulho" (wrap) to the foreground. Four analytical categories established by Saint Augustin are used as background to the study of temporality: dissolution, agony, banishment and night. The third chapter focuses on the correspondence between temporality and fictional space, with emphasis on the motifs "casa" (house) and "cão" (dog). In this chapter, two novels that deal with the dissolution of love relationships are analyzed: Antes, o verão (1964) and A casa do poeta trágico (1997).(AU)
