Key Clinical Message: Consideration of spontaneous urinary bladder rupture in the differential diagnosis of acute abdominal pain for alcohol-abusing patients is crucial for ensuring timely surgical intervention and preventing life-threatening complications due to its high associated morbidity and mortality. Abstract: Spontaneous rupture of the urinary bladder (SRUB) is a rare but critical urological emergency, typically associated with malignancy, neurogenic dysfunction, or previous radiation therapy. Here, we present a unique case of SRUB in a 65-year-old chronic alcoholic male who presented with acute lower abdominal pain following heavy alcohol consumption. Initial evaluations revealed leukocytosis, elevated serum creatinine levels, and ultrasound findings suggestive of bladder rupture. Computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis, indicating an intraperitoneal rupture with associated hematoma. Immediate surgical repair was performed, leading to a successful outcome. This case underscores the importance of considering SRUB in patients with acute abdominal pain, especially in the context of alcohol intoxication, and highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with this condition. Early recognition and intervention are crucial to prevent life-threatening complications associated with urinary bladder rupture.

Abstract: Hemophilic pseudotumors are rare complications occurring in individuals with severe hemophilia, characterized by progressive cystic swellings in muscles and/or bones due to recurrent bleeding. Although their incidence has decreased with the advent of factor VIII replacement therapy, they still create challenges, particularly in regions with limited access to medical care. Here, we present a case report of a hemophilic pseudotumor of the knee joint in a 15-year-old male with hemophilia A. The patient presented with severe left knee pain, swelling, and restricted range of motion, prompting further investigation. Imaging studies revealed lytic lesions, and MRI bone signal changes consistent with hemophilic pseudotumors. Prompt initiation of factor VIII replacement therapy and supportive management led to a significant improvement in symptoms and joint functionality. Follow-up after 2 months showed that the swelling had significantly reduced in size, with marked improvement in the functionality of the knee joint. This case confirms what is already known in the hemophilia literature: how important it is to prevent, diagnose, and treat pseudotumors early in hemophilia. However, longer clinical and imaging follow-up of this case is necessary to determine whether the complaints associated with pseudotumors resolve with hematologic treatment or will require surgical treatment.

Co-occurrence and spatial and temporal overlap of sympatric jungle and leopard cats are influenced by habitat preferences, and interspecific competition. Understanding these factors influence is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies. We conducted a camera survey in Parsa‒Koshi Complex (PKC), Nepal during December 2022-March 2023 to investigate factors influencing occupancy and spatial and temporal overlap between jungle cats (Felis chaus) and leopard cats (Prionailurus bengalensis). The mean detection probability (t = 0.664, p = 0.507) did not differ between jungle cats (p = 0.500 ± 0.289) and leopard cats (p = 0.501 ± 0.288); however, occupancy (t = 31.008, p < 0.001) was greater for jungle cats (ψ = 0.247 ± 0.020) than leopard cats (ψ = 0.178 ± 0.019). Jungle cats and leopard cats were positively associated with large predators, and jungle cats were positively associated with human presence and negatively associated with canopy cover. We observed high diel overlap between leopard cats and jungle cats (Dhat1 = 0.802, norm0CI: 0.720-0.884), with both species largely nocturnal. Co-existence of jungle cats and leopard cats in PKC appears to be facilitated by spatial segregation. These findings provide valuable insights into the complex ecological dynamics and interactions between sympatric jungle and leopard cats.

Glancing angle deposition (GLAD) of CdTe can produce a cubic, hexagonal, or mixed phase crystal structure depending upon the oblique deposition angles (Φ) and substrate temperature. GLAD CdTe films are prepared at different Φ at room temperature (RT) and a high temperature (HT) of 250 °C and used as interlayers between the n-type hexagonal CdS window layer and the p-type cubic CdTe absorber layer to investigate the role of interfacial tailoring at the CdS/CdTe heterojunction in photovoltaic (PV) device performance. The Φ = 80° RT GLAD CdTe interlayer and CdS both have the hexagonal structure, which reduces lattice mismatch at the CdS/CdTe interface and improves electronic quality at the heterojunction for device performance optimization. The device performance of HT CdS/CdTe solar cells with Φ = 80° RT with 50 to 350 nm thick GLAD CdTe interlayers is evaluated in which a 250 nm interlayer device shows the best device performance with a 0.53 V increase in open-circuit voltage and fill-factor product and a 0.73% increase in absolute efficiency compared to the HT baseline PV device without an interlayer.

Understanding factors associated with coexistence of human and wildlife in human-dominated landscapes is crucial for effective species conservation. Among the wildlife species, the sloth bears Melursus ursinus are found both inside and outside the protected areas of Nepal, and with increasing cases of human and bear conflicts in both areas. This highlights the necessity for a comprehensive understanding of anthropogenic and ecological factors that affect the occurrence of sloth bear. The understanding of these factors is important for its coexistence and conservation in human-dominated areas through establishing management and conservation action plan. We studied the sloth bear's occupancy and their coexistence in human-dominated environments with other large predators in the Parsa-Koshi Complex of Nepal using camera traps from December 2022 to March 2023. We identified the occupancy and detection probability of the sloth bear as 0.12 and 0.31, respectively. Our analysis reveals a positive relationship between sloth bear occurrence and the presence of large predators (ßpredators = 3.104 ± 0.968), such as tigers (Panthera tigris) and leopards (Panthera pardus), as well as the number of humans detected (ßhuman = 1.428 ± 1.216) and canopy cover percentage (ßcc = 1.002 ± 0.737). However, the number of livestock detected shows a negative interaction with the occurrence of sloth bears (ßlivestock = -2.240 ± 1.467). There was insignificant interaction between sloth bear occupancy and distance to human settlements, roads, and water bodies. These findings underscore the complex dynamics between sloth bears, humans, large predators, and livestock in human-dominated landscapes. To ensure the long-term survival of sloth bear populations and promote species conservation, comprehensive conservation strategies that account for both ecological and socio-economic factors are essential.

Nanocrystalline hydrogenated silicon (nc-Si:H) substrate configuration n-i-p solar cells have been fabricated on soda lime glass substrates with active absorber layers prepared by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The cells with nanocrystalline PECVD absorbers and an untextured back reflector serve as a baseline for comparison and have power conversion efficiency near 6%. By comparison, cells with sputtered absorbers achieved efficiencies of about 1%. Simulations of external quantum efficiency (EQE) are compared to experimental EQE to determine a carrier collection probability gradient with depth for the device with the sputtered i-layer absorber. This incomplete collection of carriers generated in the absorber is most pronounced in material near the n/i interface and is attributed to breaking vacuum between deposition of layers for the sputtered absorbers, possible low electronic quality of the nc-Si:H sputtered absorber, and damage at the n/i interface by over-deposition of the sputtered i-layer during device fabrication.
