RESUMEN

This paper proposes a novel approach to enhance the multichannel fiber optic sensing systems by integrating an Inverse Fast Fourier Transform-based Deep Neural Network (IFFT-DNN) to accurately predict sensor responses despite signals overlapping and crosstalk between sensors. The IFFT-DNN leverages both frequency and time domain information, enabling a comprehensive feature extraction which enhances the prediction accuracy and reliability performance. To investigate the IFFT-DNN's performance, we propose a multichannel water level sensing system based on Free Space Optics (FSO) to measure the water level at multiple points in remote areas. The experimental results demonstrate the system's high precision, with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.07 cm, even in complex conditions. Hence, this system provides a cost-effective and reliable remote water level sensing solution, highlighting its practical applicability in various industrial settings.

Pulmonary fibrosis is known as an incurable lung disorder with irreversible progression of chronic injury, myofibroblast proliferation, extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation, and tissue scarring. Atmospheric particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5 ) is implicated as a risk factor of several diseases, especially lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis. The molecular mechanism which participates PM2.5 -induced pulmonary fibrosis in type II alveolar cells (AEII) has yet to be determined. Our results proved that short- and long-term exposure to PM2.5 significantly stimulated epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) activity in AEII cells, according to, changes in gene signature analyzed by RNA-seq and cell morphology. Furthermore, Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis also suggested that mitochondrial dysfunction was related to progression of pulmonary fibrosis in AEII after PM2.5 exposure. We observed a marked decline in mitochondria membrane potential (MMP), as well as fragmented mitochondria, in AEII cells exposed to PM2.5 , which suggests that energy metabolism is suppressed after PM2.5 exposure. We also confirmed that PM2.5 exposure could influence the expression levels of Mfn1, Mfn2, and Drp1 in AEII. Pretreatment of mitochondrial fusion promoter M1 was able to reverse mitochondrial dysfunction as well as EMT in AEII. These data suggested the key role of mitochondrial fragmentation in AEII, which was induced by PM2.5 exposure, and participated pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. Finally, we investigated the response of lung tissue exposed to PM2.5 in vivo. The data indicated that the lung tissue exposed to PM2.5 obviously induced collagen accumulation. Moreover, IHC results revealed that PM2.5 enhanced Drp1 expression but suppressed Mfn1 and Mfn2 expression in lung tissue. The current study provides novel insight of pulmonary fibrosis caused by PM2.5 exposure.

Alidussignatus Pic, 1926 is transferred from Mispila to Souvanna, and Souvannasignata (Pic, 1926), comb. nov. is proposed. The lectotype of Alidussignatus is designated. The following synonyms are proposed: Souvannasignata = Athylia (s. str.) quadristigma (Gressitt, 1940), syn. nov. = Souvannaphoumai Breuning, 1963, syn. nov. = Mispila (Dryusa) coomani Breuning, 1968, syn. nov., Mispila (s. str.) tenuevittata (Pic, 1930) = Mispila (s. str.) assamensis Breuning, 1938, syn. nov. The gender of the holotype of Alidusmultilineatus Pic, 1925 is determined. New distributional records for Souvannasignata, Mispilacurvilinea Pascoe, 1869, M.subtonkinea Breuning, 1968 and M.tenuevittata are provided.

BACKGROUND: COPD is a common but irreversible disease. Nevertheless, patients with COPD can maintain good quality of life through psychological resilience and effective self-management. However, limited studies have investigated the relationship between self-management behaviors and resilience in patients with COPD. Thus, the present study aimed to determine the factors associated with self-management behaviors and resilience among patients with COPD. METHODS: A total of 100 subjects with COPD were recruited from a medical center in northern Taiwan from February 2020 to January 2021. Each subject completed a questionnaire based on the 20-item COPD Self-Management Scale and 25-item Resilience Scale through a face-to-face interview. A multiple linear regression model that controlled for sociodemographic and clinical factors was used to examine the relationship between self-management behaviors and resilience. RESULTS: Analysis of our data indicated that differences in educational level, smoking status, religion, modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale score, degree of COPD impacting wellbeing, number of COPD-related hospitalizations within 1 year, and self-reported comorbidities were associated with differences in self-management and resilience scores. The GOLD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) D group had the lowest scores for self-management and resilience among GOLD groups A, B, C, and D. Self-management and resilience were positively correlated (r = 0.703, P < .001). In the linear regression model, a better self-management value was associated with a higher resilience score (ß = 0.749, P < .001), whereas an increasing resilience score was also associated with a better self-management score (ß = 0.461, P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that self-management and psychological resilience were positively correlated and associated in our linear regression model. Future work may focus on finding the causative relationship between self-management and resilience among patients with COPD.
