RESUMEN

The human seasonal coronavirus HKU1-CoV, which causes common colds worldwide, relies on the sequential binding to surface glycans and transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) for entry into target cells. TMPRSS2 is synthesized as a zymogen that undergoes autolytic activation to process its substrates. Several respiratory viruses, in particular coronaviruses, use TMPRSS2 for proteolytic priming of their surface spike protein to drive membrane fusion upon receptor binding. We describe the crystal structure of the HKU1-CoV receptor binding domain in complex with TMPRSS2, showing that it recognizes residues lining the catalytic groove. Combined mutagenesis of interface residues and comparison across species highlight positions 417 and 469 as determinants of HKU1-CoV host tropism. The structure of a receptor-blocking nanobody in complex with zymogen or activated TMPRSS2 further provides the structural basis of TMPRSS2 activating conformational change, which alters loops recognized by HKU1-CoV and dramatically increases binding affinity.

Memory B cells play a fundamental role in host defenses against viruses, but to date, their role has been relatively unsettled in the context of SARS-CoV-2. We report here a longitudinal single-cell and repertoire profiling of the B cell response up to 6 months in mild and severe COVID-19 patients. Distinct SARS-CoV-2 spike-specific activated B cell clones fueled an early antibody-secreting cell burst as well as a durable synchronous germinal center response. While highly mutated memory B cells, including pre-existing cross-reactive seasonal Betacoronavirus-specific clones, were recruited early in the response, neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 RBD-specific clones accumulated with time and largely contributed to the late, remarkably stable, memory B cell pool. Highlighting germinal center maturation, these cells displayed clear accumulation of somatic mutations in their variable region genes over time. Overall, these findings demonstrate that an antigen-driven activation persisted and matured up to 6 months after SARS-CoV-2 infection and may provide long-term protection.

How infection by a viral variant showing antigenic drift impacts a preformed mature human memory B cell (MBC) repertoire remains an open question. Here, we studied the MBC response up to 6 months after SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection in individuals previously vaccinated with three doses of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. Longitudinal analysis, using single-cell multi-omics and functional analysis of monoclonal antibodies from RBD-specific MBCs, revealed that a BA.1 breakthrough infection mostly recruited pre-existing cross-reactive MBCs with limited de novo response against BA.1-restricted epitopes. Reorganization of clonal hierarchy and new rounds of germinal center reactions, however, combined to maintain diversity and induce progressive maturation of the MBC repertoire against common Hu-1 and BA.1, but not BA.5-restricted, SARS-CoV-2 Spike RBD epitopes. Such remodeling was further associated with a marked improvement in overall neutralizing breadth and potency. These findings have fundamental implications for the design of future vaccination booster strategies.

The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant can escape neutralization by vaccine-elicited and convalescent antibodies. Memory B cells (MBCs) represent another layer of protection against SARS-CoV-2, as they persist after infection and vaccination and improve their affinity. Whether MBCs elicited by mRNA vaccines can recognize the Omicron variant remains unclear. We assessed the affinity and neutralization potency against the Omicron variant of several hundred naturally expressed MBC-derived monoclonal IgG antibodies from vaccinated COVID-19-recovered and -naive individuals. Compared with other variants of concern, Omicron evaded recognition by a larger proportion of MBC-derived antibodies, with only 30% retaining high affinity against the Omicron RBD, and the reduction in neutralization potency was even more pronounced. Nonetheless, neutralizing MBC clones could be found in all the analyzed individuals. Therefore, despite the strong immune escape potential of the Omicron variant, these results suggest that the MBC repertoire generated by mRNA vaccines still provides some protection against the Omicron variant in vaccinated individuals.

In addition to serum immunoglobulins, memory B cell (MBC) generation against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is another layer of immune protection, but the quality of MBC responses in naive and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-recovered individuals after vaccination remains ill defined. We studied longitudinal cohorts of naive and disease-recovered individuals for up to 2 months after SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination. We assessed the quality of the memory response by analysis of antibody repertoires, affinity, and neutralization against variants of concern (VOCs) using unbiased cultures of 2,452 MBCs. Upon boosting, the MBC pool of recovered individuals expanded selectively, matured further, and harbored potent neutralizers against VOCs. Although naive individuals had weaker neutralizing serum responses, half of their RBD-specific MBCs displayed high affinity toward multiple VOCs, including delta (B.1.617.2), and one-third retained neutralizing potency against beta (B.1.351). Our data suggest that an additional challenge in naive vaccinees could recall such affinity-matured MBCs and allow them to respond efficiently to VOCs.

Four endemic seasonal human coronaviruses causing common colds circulate worldwide: HKU1, 229E, NL63 and OC43 (ref. 1). After binding to cellular receptors, coronavirus spike proteins are primed for fusion by transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) or endosomal cathepsins2-9. NL63 uses angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 as a receptor10, whereas 229E uses human aminopeptidase-N11. HKU1 and OC43 spikes bind cells through 9-O-acetylated sialic acid, but their protein receptors remain unknown12. Here we show that TMPRSS2 is a functional receptor for HKU1. TMPRSS2 triggers HKU1 spike-mediated cell-cell fusion and pseudovirus infection. Catalytically inactive TMPRSS2 mutants do not cleave HKU1 spike but allow pseudovirus infection. Furthermore, TMPRSS2 binds with high affinity to the HKU1 receptor binding domain (Kd 334 and 137 nM for HKU1A and HKU1B genotypes) but not to SARS-CoV-2. Conserved amino acids in the HKU1 receptor binding domain are essential for binding to TMPRSS2 and pseudovirus infection. Newly designed anti-TMPRSS2 nanobodies potently inhibit HKU1 spike attachment to TMPRSS2, fusion and pseudovirus infection. The nanobodies also reduce infection of primary human bronchial cells by an authentic HKU1 virus. Our findings illustrate the various evolution strategies of coronaviruses, which use TMPRSS2 to either directly bind to target cells or prime their spike for membrane fusion and entry.

Infection with viruses of animal origin pose a significant threat to human populations. Simian foamy viruses (SFVs) are frequently transmitted to humans, in which they establish a life-long infection, with the persistence of replication-competent virus. However, zoonotic SFVs do not induce severe disease nor are they transmitted between humans. Thus, SFVs represent a model of zoonotic retroviruses that lead to a chronic infection successfully controlled by the human immune system. We previously showed that infected humans develop potent neutralizing antibodies (nAbs). Within the viral envelope (Env), the surface protein (SU) carries a variable region that defines two genotypes, overlaps with the receptor binding domain (RBD), and is the exclusive target of nAbs. However, its antigenic determinants are not understood. Here, we characterized nAbs present in plasma samples from SFV-infected individuals living in Central Africa. Neutralization assays were carried out in the presence of recombinant SU that compete with SU at the surface of viral vector particles. We defined the regions targeted by the nAbs using mutant SU proteins modified at the glycosylation sites, RBD functional subregions, and genotype-specific sequences that present properties of B-cell epitopes. We observed that nAbs target conformational epitopes. We identified three major epitopic regions: the loops at the apex of the RBD, which likely mediate interactions between Env protomers to form Env trimers, a loop located in the vicinity of the heparan binding site, and a region proximal to the highly conserved glycosylation site N8. We provide information on how nAbs specific for each of the two viral genotypes target different epitopes. Two common immune escape mechanisms, sequence variation and glycan shielding, were not observed. We propose a model according to which the neutralization mechanisms rely on the nAbs to block the Env conformational change and/or interfere with binding to susceptible cells. As the SFV RBD is structurally different from known retroviral RBDs, our data provide fundamental knowledge on the structural basis for the inhibition of viruses by nAbs. Lumbar fractures and/or multiple fractures at the lumbar or thoracolumbar regions are risk factors for sagittal malalignment in patients older than 70 years old. Although patients with OVF show a huge capacity to compensate after the fractures, lumbar and TL lumbar fractures require closer monitoring. PURPOSE: To assess the impact of osteoporotic vertebral fractures on the sagittal alignment of the elderly and identify risk factors for sagittal malalignment. METHODS: We performed a retrospective study on a cohort of 249 patients older than 70 years old and diagnosed with osteoporosis who suffered chronic vertebral fractures. Demographic and radiological data were collected. Full-spine lateral X-rays were obtained to analyze the sagittal plane. Patients were classified according to the number and location of the fractures. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationships between the type of fractures and sagittal alignment. RESULTS: A total of 673 chronic fractures were detected in 249 patients with a mean number of vertebral fractures per patient of 2.7 ± 1.9. Patients were divided into 9 subgroups according to the location and the number of fractures. Surprisingly, any of the aggregated parameters used to assess sagittal alignment exceeded the threshold defined for malalignment. In the second part of the analysis, 41 patients with sagittal malalignment were identified. In this subpopulation, an overrepresentation of patients with lumbar fractures (34% vs. 11%) and an under-representation of thoracic fractures (9% vs. 34%) were reported. We also observed that patients with 3 or more lumbar or thoracolumbar fractures had an increased risk of sagittal malalignment. CONCLUSIONS: Lumbar fractures and/or multiple fractures at the lumbar or thoracolumbar regions are risk factors for sagittal malalignment in patients older than 70 years old. Although patients show a remarkable capacity to compensate, fractures at the lumbar and thoracolumbar regions need closer monitoring.

BACKGROUND: Allergic diseases begin early in life and are often chronic, thus creating an inflammatory environment that may precede or exacerbate other pathologies. In this regard, allergy has been associated to metabolic disorders and with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, but the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. METHODS: We used a murine model of allergy and atherosclerosis, different diets and sensitization methods, and cell-depleting strategies to ascertain the contribution of acute and late phase inflammation to dyslipidemia. Untargeted lipidomic analyses were applied to define the lipid fingerprint of allergic inflammation at different phases of allergic pathology. Expression of genes related to lipid metabolism was assessed in liver and adipose tissue at different times post-allergen challenge. Also, changes in serum triglycerides (TGs) were evaluated in a group of 59 patients ≥14 days after the onset of an allergic reaction. RESULTS: We found that allergic inflammation induces a unique lipid signature that is characterized by increased serum TGs and changes in the expression of genes related to lipid metabolism in liver and adipose tissue. Alterations in blood TGs following an allergic reaction are independent of T-cell-driven late phase inflammation. On the contrary, the IgG-mediated alternative pathway of anaphylaxis is sufficient to induce a TG increase and a unique lipid profile. Lastly, we demonstrated an increase in serum TGs in 59 patients after undergoing an allergic reaction. CONCLUSION: Overall, this study reveals that IgG-mediated allergic inflammation regulates lipid metabolism.

The first crystal structure of an ortho-lithium phosphinothioic amide complexed with tetramethylethylenediamine 12 is reported. The complex consists of a spirane in which the spiro-lithium is N,N- and C,S-chelated by the diamine and organophosphorus ligands, respectively. The analogous ortho anion 14 obtained by Sn(IV)/Li transmetallation in THF has also been synthesized. Nuclear magnetic resonance study of both anions showed that they exist as monomers in solution and are involved in dynamic processes including the restricted rotation around the P-N bond. 14 is converted at room temperature by nucleophilic cyclization to the dearomatized anion 15, which evolves after a few hours to the benzophosphindole sulfide 16. Density functional theory calculations supported the aggregation state in solution and were used to explore the conformational space of anion 12, the mechanism of ortho-lithiation directed by P(X)-N (X=O, S) groups, and the mechanism of formation of 15.

BACKGROUND: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive malignant neuroendocrine tumour. There are two subsets of MCC, one related to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and the other to ultraviolet radiation (UVR). MCPyV-positive and MCPyV-negative MCCs have been considered to be different tumours, as the former harbour few DNA mutations and are not related to UVR, and the latter usually arise in sun-exposed areas and may be found in conjunction with other keratinocytic tumours, mostly squamous cell carcinomas. Two viral oncoproteins, large T antigen (LT; coded by MCPyV_gp3) and small T antigen (sT; coded by MCPyV_gp4), promote different carcinogenic pathways. OBJECTIVES: To determine which genes are differentially expressed in MCPyV-positive and MCPyV-negative MCC; to describe the mutational burden and the most frequently mutated genes in both MCC subtypes; and to identify the clinical and molecular factors that may be related to patient survival. METHODS: Ninety-two patients with a diagnosis of MCC were identified from the medical databases of participating centres. To study gene expression, a customized panel of 172 genes was developed. Gene expression profiling was performed with nCounter technology. For mutational studies, a customized panel of 26 genes was designed. Somatic single nucleotide variants (SNVs) were identified following the GATK Best Practices workflow for somatic mutations. RESULTS: The expression of LT enabled the series to be divided into two groups (LT positive, n = 55; LT negative, n = 37). Genes differentially expressed in LT-negative patients were related to epithelial differentiation, especially SOX9, or proliferation and the cell cycle (MYC, CDK6), among others. Congruently, LT displayed lower expression in SOX9-positive patients, and differentially expressed genes in SOX9-positive patients were related to epithelial/squamous differentiation. In LT-positive patients, the mean SNV frequency was 4.3; in LT-negative patients it was 10 (P = 0.03). On multivariate survival analysis, the expression of SNAI1 [hazard ratio (HR) 1.046, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.007-1.086; P = 0.02] and CDK6 (HR 1.049, 95% CI 1.020-1.080; P = 0.001) were identified as risk factors. CONCLUSIONS: Tumours with weak LT expression tend to co-express genes related to squamous differentiation and the cell cycle, and to have a higher mutational burden. These findings are congruent with those of earlier studies.


Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive form of skin tumour. There are two subtypes of MCC: one of them is related to a virus called Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV); the other one is related to persistent exposure to sunlight. The aim of this research was to find differences between these subtypes in their molecular behaviour (the genes that are expressed and the mutations that may be found). To do this, we carried out two studies, one to investigate gene expression (the process cells use to convert the instructions in our DNA into a functional product such as a protein) and one to look at gene mutations (changes in the DNA sequence). We found that the tumours that were not related to MCPyV expressed genes related to epithelial differentiation (the process by which unspecialized cells gain features characteristics of epithelial cells, which, among other things, make up the outer surface of the body), which means that the origin of both MCC subtypes may be different. We also found that MCPyV-related tumours had fewer mutations. Our findings are important because they help us to understand the biology of the MCC subtypes and could help with the development of new treatments for people diagnosed with skin tumours.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the bone microstructure to determine whether curative surgery of primary hyperparathyroidism produces changes in bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular bone score (TBS), and three-dimensional (3D) dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) parameters and whether these changes are comparable. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 85 patients (60 women and 25 men, 60.4 ± 12.5 years) diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism and undergoing parathyroidectomy. Mean percent changes in BMD (lumbar spine [LS], femoral neck [FN], total hip [TH], and 1/3 radius), TBS and 3D-DXA parameters (trabecular volumetric BMD (vBMD), cortical vBMD, integral vBMD, cortical surface density (sBMD), and cortical thickness at TH) after surgery (12, 24, and/or 36 months) were calculated and compared, and we sought the determinants of these changes. RESULTS: After parathyroidectomy, BMD presented statistically significant mean increases in LS, FN, and TH during the first 3 years after surgery (P < .001), accompanied by an improvement in all 3D-DXA parameters, but there were no significant changes in 1/3 radius BMD or TBS. Cortical sBMD, trabecular vBMD, and integral vBMD reached mean increases of similar magnitude to those of FN and TH BMD. Age and preoperative serum levels of parathyroid hormone and carboxy-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen were significantly associated with percent changes after surgery. CONCLUSION: We found a benefit of parathyroidectomy for bone, with significant percent increases in LS, FN, and TH BMD up to the third year after surgery, and a qualitative benefit for the hip in both its trabecular and cortical compartments and bone strength.

BACKGROUND: KBG syndrome is a highly variable neurodevelopmental disorder and clinical diagnostic criteria have changed as new patients have been reported. Both loss-of-function sequence variants and large deletions (copy number variations, CNVs) involving ANKRD11 cause KBG syndrome, but no genotype-phenotype correlation has been reported. METHODS: 67 patients with KBG syndrome were assessed using a custom phenotypical questionnaire. Manifestations present in >50% of the patients and a 'phenotypical score' were used to perform a genotype-phenotype correlation in 340 patients from our cohort and the literature. RESULTS: Neurodevelopmental delay, macrodontia, triangular face, characteristic ears, nose and eyebrows were the most prevalentf (eatures. 82.8% of the patients had at least one of seven main comorbidities: hearing loss and/or otitis media, visual problems, cryptorchidism, cardiopathy, feeding difficulties and/or seizures. Associations found included a higher phenotypical score in patients with sequence variants compared with CNVs and a higher frequency of triangular face (71.1% vs 42.5% in CNVs). Short stature was more frequent in patients with exon 9 variants (62.5% inside vs 27.8% outside exon 9), and the prevalence of intellectual disability/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder/autism spectrum disorder was lower in patients with the c.1903_1907del variant (70.4% vs 89.4% other variants). Presence of macrodontia and comorbidities were associated with larger deletion sizes and hand anomalies with smaller deletions. CONCLUSION: We present a detailed phenotypical description of KBG syndrome in the largest series reported to date of 67 patients, provide evidence of a genotype-phenotype correlation between some KBG features and specific ANKRD11 variants in 340 patients, and propose updated clinical diagnostic criteria based on our findings.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to compare voice outcomes in open partial horizontal laryngectomy vs. total laryngectomy (TL) with voice prosthesis. METHODS: In this retrospective monocentric study patients undergoing OPHL or TL with voice prosthesis were enrolled during the usual oncological follow-up consultations at the Otolaryngology and Audiology Unit of a University Hospital in the period between July 2022 and June 2023. Acoustic analysis (F0, HNR, NHR), maximum phonation time, I-SECEL and INFV0 scale were used to assess voice outcome. RESULTS: Forty-three patients were enrolled. Voices of patients undergoing LT were better in quality of voice (V0) at INFV0 scale. The scores in I-SECEL and acoustic analysis were comparable. CONCLUSIONS: Voice quality could be slight better in patients undergoing TL with voice prosthesis than those undergoing OPHL.

PURPOSE: A variety of lesions could arise from the GG area, or extend into this region from adjacent sites. The management of perigeniculate lesions includes observation, surgery, and radiation, according to the nature, the size of the lesion, and the accompanying symptoms. Preliminary experiences on the exclusive transcanal endoscopic approach to the GG area have shown safety and feasibility avoiding of any postauricular incision, or brain manipulation. The experience from two referral centers on patients treated for a GG lesion with a totally endoscopic approach is herein reported. METHODS: Data about patients who underwent exclusive endoscopic approach to the GG area at the Otolaryngology Departments of the University Hospitals of Modena and Bologna between May 2017 and February 2022 were retrospectively collected. RESULTS: The total number of patients included in our study was 11. 10 patients (91%) had progressive unilateral facial paralysis and 1 patient (11%) presented with chronic otorrhea. The mean largest diameter of the treated lesions was of 8 mm. The resection was extended to the fundus of the IAC in 2 patients (expanded approach). The remaining 9 patients (82%) underwent partial ossicular replacement prosthesis (PORP). No major complications occurred. Facial nerve outcomes were good in all patients and the mean ABG worsened from 12 dB pre-operatively to 22 dB post-operatively. CONCLUSIONS: The exclusively endoscopic approach to GG lesions represents a viable alternative to traditional microscopic approaches and may be included in the armamentarium of ear surgeons.

PURPOSE: To compare the audiological outcomes, tympanic membrane (TM) healing rates and complication rates in patients undergoing endoscopic underlay and over-under tympanoplasty type I (TTI). METHODS: The study includes 95 patients who underwent endoscopic TTI in the period between 2018 and 2023: 56% of the patients had the underlay technique and 41% had the over-under technique. Data regarding pre- and postoperative hearing, perforation characteristics, surgical procedures, graft types and complications were retrospectively analyzed. Audiometrical assessment included air conduction (AC) and bone conduction (BC) pure tone averages (PTA) and air-bone gap (ABG), pre- and postoperatively. RESULTS: Both underlay and over-under techniques significant improved AC PTA, with a mean ABG improvements of 5.9 dB and 7.2 dB, respectively. There was no significant difference in BC PTA between pre- and post-operative, indicating no inner ear damage in both techniques. The over-under technique showed a significantly higher TM closure rate (94.4%) compared to the underlay technique (80.6%). Complications were rare, with only one case of TM lateralization requiring revision surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic TTI is an effective treatment in improving auditory function in chronic middle ear diseases. In our cohort, the detachment of the umbo does not negatively influence the postoperative hearing results and does not increase rate of complications. Moreover, the over-under technique demonstrates superior TM closure rates, making it a valuable option for specific cases. However, future prospective studies with larger sample sizes and longer term follow-up are needed to validate these findings and provide more comprehensive insights.

OBJECTIVES: Among the complications of parotid surgery, facial palsy is frequent and burdened by high functional and social impact for the patient. There are few data on the efficacy of facial neuromuscular retraining (FNR) in patients with facial palsy after parotid surgery, and no data exist on its impact in timing and extent of recovery. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on patients undergoing FN sparing parotid surgery and suffering from postoperative facial palsy. Among 400 patients undergoing surgery between July 2016 and May 2023, those with the preservation of the FN and onset of facial palsy were selected. Nerve function was evaluated during 2 years follow up using the House-Brackman (H&Bs) and Sunnybrook scales (SBs). RESULTS: A total of 46 patients undergoing partial or total parotidectomy were included. At discharge 18 patients (39,1%) had IV to VI grade paralysis according to the H&Bs and the mean SBs value was 54. At 2 and 6 months after surgery, the average value of Sunnybrook increased to 76.5 and 95.4 respectively. After 12 months no patients with IV to VI grade paralysis were represent in our cohort. Two years after surgery, only five patients (10.9%) had persistent grade II paralysis according to HBs. CONCLUSIONS: Our study supports the efficacy of FNR in the rehabilitation of facial paralysis after nerve-sparing parotidectomy. The greater functional improvement is achieved within the first 6 months of rehabilitation. A significant improvement is detected still after 18 months, supporting the importance of long rehabilitation for patients without complete recovery after the first year.

Today, it is difficult to have a high-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) device due to the high cost of its acquisition and maintenance. These high-end machines require significant space and specialist personnel for operation and offer exceptional quality in the acquisition, processing, and other advanced functions associated with detected signals. However, alternative devices are low-field nuclear magnetic resonance devices. They benefit from the elimination of high-tech components that generate static magnetic fields and advanced instruments. Instead, they used magnetic fields induced by ordinary conductors. Another category of spectrometers uses the Earth's magnetic field, which is simple and economical but limited in use. These devices are called Earth-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (EFNMR) devices. This device is ideal for educational purposes, especially for engineers and those who study nuclear magnetic resonance, such as chemistry or other experimental sciences. Students can observe their internal workings and conduct experiments that complement their education without worrying about damaging equipment. This article provides a detailed explanation of the design and construction of electrical technology devices for the excitation of atomic spin resonance using Earth's magnetic fields. It covers all necessary stages, from research to analysis, including simulation, assembly, construction of each component, and the development of comprehensive software for spectrometer control.

We describe the use of nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomics to analyze blood serum samples from healthy individuals (n = 26) and those with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC; n = 57). The assessment, employing both linear and nonlinear multivariate data analysis techniques, revealed specific metabolite changes associated with metastatic CRC, including increased levels of lactate, glutamate, and pyruvate, and decreased levels of certain amino acids and total fatty acids. Biomarker ratios such as glutamate-to-glutamine and pyruvate-to-alanine were also found to be related to CRC. The study also found that glutamate was linked to progression-free survival and that both glutamate and 3-hydroxybutyrate were risk factors for metastatic CRC. Additionally, gas chromatography coupled to flame-ionization detection was utilized to analyze the fatty acid profile and pathway analysis was performed on the profiled metabolites to understand the metabolic processes involved in CRC. A correlation was also found between the presence of certain metabolites in the blood of CRC patients and certain clinical features.
