PURPOSE: The tumour's ability to metastasize is the major cause for fatal outcomes in cancer diseases. In breast cancer, aberrant E-Cadherin expression has been linked to invasiveness and poor prognosis. METHOD: We assessed expression of E-Cadherin by immunohistochemistry in primary tumour tissue from 125 female breast cancer patients. Staining intensities were analysed using the immunoreactive score (IRS). We investigated E-Cadherin expression and its associations with clinicopathological parameters (age, tumour size, lymph node status, grade, hormone receptors, Her2 Status) as well as with recurrence and survival. RESULTS: Increased, rather than aberrant E-Cadherin expression was found and was associated with poor outcome (p = 0.046). Our data show an association between elevated E-Cadherin in primary tumour tissue and an unfavourable negative prognosis in patients. CONCLUSION: This association was somehow unexpected as loss of E-Cadherin has long been regarded as a prerequisite for development of invasiveness and metastases. Our findings support the notion that E-Cadherin promotes, rather than suppresses, development of metastasis and invasiveness.

INTRODUCTION: Nonrandomized studies support the potential of cytomegalovirus hyperimmunoglobulin (CMV-HyperIg) in preventing maternofetal CMV transmission, but prospective interventional studies show equivocal results. We pre-sent a prospective phase-III international randomized open-label trial on the potential effect of CMV-HyperIg following serial monitoring of CMV serostatus. METHODS: CMV-seronegative pregnant women (gestational age [GA] <14 weeks) were 1:1 randomized to monthly CMV-serostatus monitoring and CMV-HyperIg upon seroconversion (treatment), or routine prenatal care with CMV-serostatus testing at end of pregnancy (control). Ethical considerations required that control subjects with confirmed seroconversion be offered Cytotect®. The primary endpoint was the proportion of fetuses/newborns with congenital CMV infection. Secondary endpoints included neonatal CMV disease and safety during the 24-month follow-up. RESULTS: The treatment arm counted 4,800 randomized subjects: 52 seroconverted (median GA 24 [11-35] weeks), of which 45 completed follow-up. The control arm counted 4,735 randomized subjects: 42 seroconverted, of which 34 completed follow-up (evaluable data for 28 newborns) and 8 subjects chose off-label Cytotect®. Congenital CMV rates were 13/28 newborns (46.4% [CI 27.51; 66.13]) vs. 16/45 newborns (35.6% [CI 21.87; 51.22]) in control and treated arms, respectively (p = 0.46). Newborn CMV disease was mostly mild and spontaneously resolving. There were no major safety concerns. The target sample was not reached within an acceptable time frame. CONCLUSIONS: Serial monitoring of CMV serostatus with CMV-HyperIg treatment was associated with a mild nonsignificant reduction in the vertical CMV transmission rate. Studies on the optimal preventive strategy are hampered by epidemiological and ethical challenges and should focus on GA-dependent transmission rates and accurate dating of infection.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate delayed interval deliveries in multiple gestations in regard of delayed interval and neonatal survival and to provide a protocol. METHODS: Data of multiple pregnancies with delayed interval delivery at a tertiary maternity unit between 2002 and 2017 were collected. Contraindications for evaluation of a delay of the delivery of the remaining child were: severe maternal blood loss, poor maternal general condition, preeclampsia, placental abruption, fetal distress, serious congenital malformations of the remaining child, chorioamnionitis, and premature rupture of membranes of the second fetus. A total of 14 cases was included in this retrospective monocentric analysis. RESULTS: The cohort comprised nine twin and five triplet pregnancies. Mean gestational age at delivery of the first fetus was 21 + 6 and 26 + 0 of the retained fetus, respectively. The earliest delivery of the first fetus was at 15 + 2 weeks. The mean interval of the delay was 29.3 days (2-82 days). Mortality of the first fetuses was 53.3%, while it was 17.6% for the retained fetuses. Maternal outcome was good in general: two cases of major blood loss occurred with the necessity of a blood transfusion. CONCLUSION: Delayed interval delivery is a reasonable approach in cases of an imminent preterm birth in multiple gestations which can be performed with a good fetal outcome and limited maternal risks. The situation when this procedure may be an option always comes unexpected. Therefore, the team of perinatologists should keep it in mind as one potential therapeutic approach. In addition, a standard protocol for the procedure should be established in the perinatal center.

OBJECTIVES: Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) involves a spectrum of abnormal proliferations arising from the placental villous trophoblast. Although the incidence is low, a biomarker with short serum half-life would be a major clinical advance to monitor surgical and medical treatment reducing the socioeconomic burden of multiple control visits as well as patient's anxiety. Placental growth hormone (hGH-V) plays an important role in the regulation of normal placental growth and has shown angiogenic effects. We aimed to determine by immunohistochemistry (IHC) whether hGH-V is expressed in GTD and whether it can be detected in the patient's blood for potential monitoring of surgical or medical treatment procedures. METHODS: Tissue and sera were collected from women undergoing treatment for GTD in a tertiary care university hospital. We evaluated partial and complete hydatidiform moles, invasive moles and choriocarcinoma, n=16. Trophoblast specimens were examined by a newly developed IHC set-up for hGH-V in addition to gross morphologic and histopathological examination. Serum samples were analyzed by a highly sensitive hGH-V specific immunoassay. RESULTS: hGH-V was localized in all entities of GTD to the syncytiotrophoblast by immunohistochemistry. Serum hGH-V was detected for the first time in GTD and was present in a high percentage of all analyzed entities. CONCLUSIONS: hGH-V can be detected in all entities of GTD by IHC as well as by serum analysis and may therefore serve as a novel biomarker for the disease. Its clinical utility in diagnosis of GTD and monitoring surgical or medical treatment needs to be determined in further studies.

Primary infection with the human cytomegalovirus (CMV) occurs in 1-4% of pregnancies. The rates of maternal-fetal CMV transmissions are around 25, 36, 41, and 66%, for infections occurring in the peri-conceptional weeks, first, second, and third trimester of pregnancy, respectively. On the other hand, the severity of fetal organ damage and dysfunction diminishes with increasing gestational age. Congenitally CMV-infected newborns may have neurosensory impairments like mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, progressive hearing loss or visual defects, or even may have a fatal outcome. In in-vitro experiments, CMV specific neutralizing IgG antibodies - which are abundant in CMV specific hyperimmune globulin (HIG) products - inhibited the entry of the virus into target cells and hampered viral cell-to-cell spread. This article provides a brief overview on the epidemiology and diagnostic tools in congenital CMV infection. It also concisely summarizes the currently available study results on the safety and effectiveness of HIG treatment. Accordingly, in clinical studies HIG administration to expectant mothers following primary CMV infection (prophylactic use) was shown to lower the risk of maternal-fetal transmission of CMV compared to untreated controls. HIG was also able to ameliorate the disease sequelae in evidently infected fetuses (therapeutic use), as demonstrated by the regression or even resolution of sonographic pathologies including placental inflammation.

PURPOSE: Since the routine screening program for cervical dysplasia by Pap smear was established in the early 1970s, the rate of cervical cancer has continually dropped. Even if a high percentage of cervical dysplasia shows spontaneous restitution, the only effective therapy for persisting cervical dysplasia is local ablation or excision which might be associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery in subsequent pregnancies. However, data from German patients are missing, so the aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of preterm delivery and associated risks in a cohort of patients who had undergone cervical conisation previous to their pregnancies. METHODS: A total of 144 patients with conisation and subsequent pregnancy were identified. They were compared regarding week of delivery and preterm birth, fetal birth weight, fetal outcome and birth procedure (spontaneous delivery, vacuum extraction, primary and secondary cesarean section) with their matched partners. RESULTS: 135 patients with singleton pregnancies and their matched partners were evaluated in the final analysis. The mean age was 33.5 years. Comparing the case and control group we reached significant different results for week of delivery, but not preterm birth defined as birth prior to 37 weeks of gestation. CONCLUSIONS: Within this German cohort cervical conisation did not increase the risk for preterm birth, cesarean section or poor fetal outcome. We therefore conclude that cervical conisation is an appropriate method to treat women with cervical dysplasia also at childbearing age when prevention of cervical cancer is needed.

The progesterone receptor (PR) has been increasingly well described as an important mediator of the pathogenesis and progression of breast cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the role of PR status as a prognostic factor in addition to other well-established prognostic factors. Data from five independent German breast cancer centers were pooled. A total of 7,965 breast cancer patients were included for whom information about their PR status was known, as well as other patient and tumor characteristics commonly used as prognostic factors. Cox proportional hazards models were built to compare the predictive value of PR status in addition to age at diagnosis, tumor size, nodal status, grading, and estrogen receptor (ER) status. PR status significantly increased the accuracy of prognostic predictions with regard to overall survival, distant disease-free survival, and local recurrence-free survival. There were differences with regard to its prognostic value relative to subgroups such as nodal status, ER status, and grading. The prognostic value of PR status was greatest in patients with a positive nodal status, negative ER status, and low grading. The PR-status adds prognostic value in addition to ER status and should not be omitted from clinical routine testing. The significantly greater prognostic value in node-positive and high-grade tumors suggests a greater role in the progression of advanced and aggressive tumors.

AIMS: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARγ) plays an important role in insulin metabolism, trophoblast differentiation and anti-inflammatory circuits. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of PPARγ in the placenta of patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and the regulation of PPARγ by its agonists in trophoblast tumour cells BeWo in vitro. METHODS: PPARγ expression in a total of 80 placentas (40 GDM/40 controls) was analysed by immunohistochemistry using the semi-quantitative immunoreactive score. Furthermore, a quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed to determine the PPARγ mRNA-expression in both groups. We used a fused and a non-fused BeWo cell culture model for the stimulation with arachidonic acid and 15-Deoxy-Δ12,14-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2). Afterwards PPARγ mRNA-expression was analysed by quantitative real-time PCR (RT-PCR) (TaqMan). RESULTS: Using immunohistochemistry we identified a decreased expression of PPARγ in the syncytiotrophoblast and the extravillous trophoblast of GDM placentas compared to normal controls. Furthermore, PPARγ mRNA-expression was reduced in GDM placentas. Stimulation of BeWo cells with arachidonic acid and 15d-PGJ2 caused a downregulation of PPARγ expression. CONCLUSION: As PPARγ is down regulated by arachidonic acid and 15d-PGJ2, the reduced PPARγ expression in GDM placentas may be due to an altered concentration of fatty acid derivates.

INTRODUCTION: Breast reconstruction with salpingo-oophorectomy can easily be performed in patients with genetic mutations increasing the risk for mammary and ovarian carcinoma. However, many patients are skeptical about having several surgeries, as they may result in additional anesthesiological risks as well as multiple visible scars. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of prophylactic mastectomy and breast reconstruction combined with simultaneous transmammary salpingo-oophorectomy for BRCA carriers. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Of the six patients (1 %) who chose prophylactic mastectomy with salpingo-oophorectomy at our hospital four patients had BRCA-1 mutations, one patient had a BRCA-2 mutation and one patient had a family inheritance pattern with no mutations. All patients chose to reduce their risk for mammary and ovarian cancer by undergoing bilateral mastectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Prophylactic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction was performed, followed by bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with a procedure that relies on transmammary access and reduces the number of necessary surgeries without compromising cosmetic results, surgical risks and operating time. RESULT: The mean age of the patients was 46.7 ± 1.8 years (SD). The mean operative time was 190.2 ± 13.7 min. No complications were observed during the operations. The mean intra-operative loss of blood was 363.3 ± 77.9 ml. The operative method was successful in all six cases and was performed with no complications. All of the patients were satisfied with the cosmetic results. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, prophylactic mastectomy and breast reconstruction combined with simultaneous laparoscopic salpingo-oophorectomy via transmammary access is feasible, easy to perform and provides an intriguing and novel approach to female BRCA carriers who desire operative prophylactic measures in one surgical session with no visible abdominal scars and no additional risks and complications.

RESUMEN

The 2012 "4 countries meeting" of the French, Dutch, British and German Societies of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (CNGOF, NVOG, RCOG, DGGG) was dedicated to the topic "Low-risk pregnancy and normal delivery". The objective was to compare how each country organises prenatal care and normal delivery. The discussion is outlined in the article and provides new opportunities to learn from each other's strengths in order to provide the highest level of care regardless of social, demographic, educational and clinical differences.

Ovarian granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are thought to arise from cells of the ovarian follicle and comprise a rare entity of ovarian masses. We recently identified the G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER/GPR30) to be present in granulosa cells, to be regulated by gonadotropins in epithelial ovarian cancer and to be differentially expressed throughout folliculogenesis. Thus, supposing a possible role of GPER in GCTs, this study aimed to analyze GPER in GCTs. GPER immunoreactivity in GCTs (n = 26; n (primary diagnosis) = 15, n (recurrence) = 11) was studied and correlated with the main clinicopathological variables. Positive GPER staining was identified in 53.8% (14/26) of GCTs and there was no significant relation of GPER with tumor size or lymph node status. Those cases presenting with strong GPER intensity at primary diagnosis showed a significant reduced overall survival (p = 0.002). Due to the fact that GPER is regulated by estrogens, as well as gonadotropins, GPER may also be affected by endocrine therapies applied to GCT patients. Moreover, with our data supposing GPER to be associated with GCT prognosis, GPER might be considered as a possible confounder when assessing the efficacy of hormone-based therapeutic approaches in GCTs.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of the cell adhesion-related glycoproteins MUC-1, ß-catenin and E-cadherin in multicentric/multifocal breast cancer in comparison to unifocal disease in order to identify potential differences in the biology of these tumor types. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on the expression of MUC1, ß-catenin and E-cadherin by immunohistochemistry on tumor tissues of a series of 112 breast cancer patients (total collective) treated in Munich between 2000 and 2002. By matched-pair analysis, 46 patients were entered into two comparable groups of 23 patients after categorizing them as having multicentric/multifocal or unifocal breast cancer. Matching criteria were tumor size, histology grade and lymph node status; based on these criteria, patients were distributed equally between the two groups (p = 1.000 each). Data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis and the Mann-Whitney tests. RESULTS: In the matched groups, we found a significantly down-regulated expression of E-cadherin in multicentric/multifocal breast cancer compared to unifocal disease (p = 0.024). The total collective showed even higher significance with a value of p < 0.0001. In contrast, no significant differences were observed in the expression of ß-catenin between multicentric/multifocal and unifocal tumors (p = 0.636 and p = 0.914, respectively). When comparing the expression of MUC1, E-cadherin and ß-catenin within the unifocal group, we found a significant positive correlation between E-cadherin and ß-catenin (p = 0.003). In the multicentric/multifocal group we observed, in contrast to the unifocal group, a significant decrease of MUC1 expression with increased grading (p = 0.027). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that multicentric/multifocal and unifocal breast cancers with identical TNM-staging clearly differ in the expression level of E-cadherin. We suggest that the down-regulation of E-cadherin in multicentric/multifocal breast cancer is causally connected with the worse prognosis of this tumor type.

BACKGROUND: Knowledge on immunosuppressive factors in the pathogenesis of endometrial cancer is scarce. The aim of this study was to assess Glycodelin (Gd) and its immunosuppressive isoform Glycodelin A (GdA) in endometrial cancer tissue and to analyze its impact on clinical and pathological features and patient outcome. METHODS: 292 patients diagnosed and treated for endometrial cancer were included. Patient characteristics, histology and follow-up data were available. Gd and GdA was determined by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization was performed for Gd mRNA. RESULTS: Endometrial cancer shows intermediate (52.2%) or high (20.6%) expression for Gd in 72.8%, and GdA in 71.6% (intermediate 62.6%, high 9.0%) of all cases. The glycosylation dependent staining of GdA is tumour specific and correlates with the peptide-specific Gd staining though neither of the two is associated with estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor or clinic-pathological features. Also Gd protein positively correlates with Gd mRNA as quantified by in situ hybridization. Gd positive cases have a favourable prognosis (p = 0.039), while GdA positive patients have a poor outcome (p = 0.003). Cox-regression analysis proofed GdA to be an independent prognostic marker for patient survival (p = 0.002), besides tumour stage, grade and the concomitant diagnosis of hypertension. CONCLUSION: Gd and GdA are commonly expressed in endometrial cancer tissue and seem to be of relevance in tumourigenesis. They differ not only in glycosylation but also in their biological activity, since only GdA holds prognostic significance for a poor overall survival in endometrial cancer patients. This finding might be explained by GdAs immunosuppressive capacity.

Phytoestrogens have a controversial effect on hormone-dependent tumours. Herein, we investigated the effect of the pumpkin seed extract (PSE) on estradiol production and estrogen receptor (ER)-α/ER-ß/progesterone receptor (PR) status on MCF7, Jeg3, and BeWo cells. The PSE was prepared and analyzed by mass spectrometry. MCF7, Jeg3, and BeWo cells were incubated with various concentrations of PSE. Untreated cells served as controls. Supernatants were tested for estradiol production with an ELISA method. Furthermore, the effect of the PSE on ER-α/ER-ß/PR expression was assessed by immunocytochemistry. The PSE was found to contain both lignans and flavones. Estradiol production was elevated in MCF7, BeWo, and Jeg3 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. In MCF7 cells, a significant ER-α downregulation and a significant PR upregulation were observed. The above results after properly designed animal studies could highlight a potential role of pumpkin seed's lignans in breast cancer prevention and/or treatment.

OBJECTIVE: The evaluation of breast implants for rupture is currently the domain of ultrasound and MRI, while mammography is of very limited diagnostic value. Recently, specific visualisation of silicone has become feasible using dual-energy CT. Our objective was to evaluate whether it is feasible to identify silicone in breast implants by dual-energy CT and to reliably diagnose or rule out ruptures. METHODS: Seven silicone breast implant specimens were examined on dual-source CT at 100- and 140-kV tube potential with a 0.8-mm tin filter (collimation 128 × 0.6 mm, current-time products 165 and 140 mAsref with modulation, rotation time 0.28 s, pitch 0.55). Two patients scheduled for implant removal or replacement were examined with identical parameters. RESULTS: The silicone of the implant specimens showed a strong dual-energy signal. In one patient, both implants were intact, while a rupture was identified in the other patient. Ultrasound, MRI, surgical findings and histology confirmed the dual-energy CT diagnosis. CONCLUSION: Dual-energy CT may serve as an alternative technique for speedy evaluation of silicone breast implants. Specific clinical studies are required to determine the diagnostic accuracy and define indications for this technique.

AIM: Disseminated tumor cells are found in the bone marrow of patients with epithelial carcinoma and are correlated with a poor prognosis of the disease. Their detection is a technical challenge. This report describes a model system for the detection of cancer cells by co-immunostaining of Thomsen-Friedenreich and Her-2 antigens. METHODS & RESULTS: Small numbers of cancer cells from different cancer cell lines were mixed with blood samples of healthy donors. Cytospins were prepared and double immunostaining against Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen and Her-2 was carried out by fluorochrome-coupled antibodies. Quantification of Thomsen-Friedenreich and/or Her-2-positive cells was performed with an epifluorescence microscope. On average, 83% of cancer cells were recovered by this method. CONCLUSION: Immunostaining is a useful method for the detection of cancer cells in blood samples. Results of this model system will be transferred to bone marrow patient samples to prove the benefits for detection of disseminated tumor cells.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence and detrimental health effects of intimate partner violence have resulted in international discussions and recommendations that health care professionals should screen women for intimate partner violence during general and antenatal health care visits. Due to the lack of discussion on routine or case-based inquiry for intimate partner violence during antenatal care in Germany, this study seeks to explore its acceptability among pregnant German women. METHODS: A mixed methods approach was used, utilizing a self-administered survey on the acceptability of routine or case-based inquiry for intimate partner violence in a university hospital's maternity ward in Munich and in-depth interviews with seven women who experienced violence during pregnancy. RESULTS: Of the 401 women who participated in the survey, 92 percent were in favor of routine or case-based inquiry for intimate partner violence during antenatal care. Acceptance of routine or case-based inquiry for intimate partner violence during antenatal care was significantly associated with women's experiences of child sexual abuse, being young, less educated, single or divorced and smoking during pregnancy. Open-ended survey questions and in-depth interviews stressed adequate training for screening, sufficient time and provision of referral information as important conditions for routine or case-based inquiry for intimate partner violence. CONCLUSIONS: Women in this study showed an overwhelming support for routine or case-based screening for intimate partner violence in antenatal care in Germany. Until adequate training is in place to allow providers to inquire for intimate partner violence in a professional manner, this study recommends that health care providers are made aware of the prevalence and health consequences of violence during pregnancy.

PURPOSE: Flaxseeds were shown to have anticancerogenic properties on breast cancer. In this work, an extract of roots of Linum usitatissimum was tested on MCF-7 and BT20 mamma carcinoma cells in vitro. METHODS: The extract was produced by an ethanolic extraction method and its chemical composition was afterwards analysed by pyrolysis field ionization mass spectrometry. The extract was tested in concentrations from 0.01 to 1,000 µg/mL. Its effects were detected by measuring the influence on cell lethality, viability and proliferation. RESULTS: The extract was shown to contain mainly sterols and triterpenes (21.4 %), free fatty acids (17.8 %), lignin dimers (12.2 %) and lipids (7.7 %). High concentrations of the extract caused significant cell lethality and suppression of cell vitality and proliferation. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, it was shown for the first time that an extract made of flaxroots caused different anticancerogenic effects on MCF-7 and BT20 cells in vitro. The extract supposably acts as a plantal multicomponent mixture, whereas the main active agents are not yet indentified and can only be suggested. Summarized, roots of flax may contain potential agents in the therapy of mamma carcinomas. Further investigations have to be carried out.

INTRODUCTION: Inhibins are important regulators of the female reproductive system. Recently, two new inhibin-subunits ßC and ßE have been described, although, their function is still quite unclear. Interestingly, there is an association between interferon and TGF-ß expression. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine expression changes of inhibin-ßC and -ßE subunits in endometrial Ishikawa carcinoma cell line after stimulation with interferon-ß1a. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Ishikawa cell line was cultured until confluence was observed (after 2 days). After adding interferon-ß1a (1,000 IE/ml), Ishikawa cells were analyzed for inhibin-ßC and -ßE subunits by RT-PCR. The fibroblast cell line BJ6 served as negative control. Experiments were performed in triplicates. RESULTS: The endometrial adenocarcinoma cell line Ishikawa synthesized the inhibin- ßC and -ßE subunits. The fibroblast cells BJ6 did not demonstrate an inhibin -ßC and -ßE mRNA expression, while inhibin-ßC subunit is down-regulated and inhibin-ßE is up-regulated in Ishikawa carcinoma cell line after stimulation with interferon-ß1a in Ishikawa. DISCUSSION: We demonstrated for the first time a functional relationship between interferon and the novel inhibin-ßC and -ßE subunits. It might be possible that interferon exerts a possible apoptotic function through the ßE-subunit, while, by down-regulating the ßC isoform, cell proliferation is inhibited. However, the precise function of the novel ßC- and ßE-subunits are still not known in human endometrial tissue and a possible association with interferon is still unclear and warrants further research.

PURPOSE: Pro-inflammatory immunity, either infectious or sterile-derived, is one of the major causes of preterm birth and associated with enhanced maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Diagnosing intrauterine inflammation at an early stage is tremendously important. Amniotic fluid interleukin (IL)-6 concentration is currently the most investigated diagnostic tool for detecting intrauterine inflammation. METHODS: Amniotic fluid samples were obtained from women with no signs of intrauterine infection [amniocentesis (n = 82), cesarean section (n = 110), spontaneous delivery (n = 20) and those with clinical signs of intrauterine infection or inflammation (AIS, n = 16)]. Amniotic fluid was screened by commercial ELISAs for IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IL-15, IL-17, growth regulated oncogene-α (gro) α, macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP) 1α, MIP1ß, histone, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α, proIL1ß and interferon γ-induced protein (IP) 10. RESULTS: ProIL-1ß, MIP1ß, IL-10 and IL-8 levels were significantly elevated in the AIS group, whereas IL-4 levels were significantly lower in the AIS group. No significant differences were found regarding IL-2, IL-6, IL-12, IL-15, IL-17, GROα, MIP1α, histone, TNFα, ProIL1ß and IP10. CONCLUSION: MIP1ß, IL-4, IL-8, IL-10 and proIL-1ß might be potential singular biomarkers in diagnosing intrauterine inflammation. The combinations of elevated levels of IL-17/GROα, MIP1ß/IL-15 and histone/IL-10 are new potentially advantageous biomarker combinations.
