RESUMEN

Members of the plant-specific gene families IQD/SUN, OFP and YABBY are thought to play important roles in plant growth and development. YABBY family members are involved in lateral organ polarity and growth; OFP members encode transcriptional repressors, whereas the role of IQD/SUN members is less clear. The tomato fruit shape genes SUN, OVATE, and FASCIATED belong to IQD/SUN, OFP and the YABBY gene family, respectively. A gene duplication resulting in high expression of SUN leads to elongated fruit, whereas a premature stop codon in OVATE and a large inversion within FASCIATED control fruit elongation and a flat fruit shape, respectively. In this study, we identified 34 SlSUN, 31 SlOFP and 9 SlYABBY genes in tomato and identified their position on 12 chromosomes. Genome mapping analysis showed that the SlSUN, SlOFP, and SlYABBY genes were enriched on the top and bottom segments of several chromosomes. In particular, on chromosome 10, a cluster of SlOFPs were found to originate from tandem duplication events. We also constructed three phylogenetic trees based on the protein sequences of the IQ67, OVATE and YABBY domains, respectively, from members of these families in Arabidopsis and tomato. The closest putative orthologs of the Arabidopsis and tomato genes were determined by the position on the phylogenetic tree and sequence similarity. Furthermore, expression analysis showed that some family members exhibited tissue-specific expression, whereas others were more ubiquitously expressed. Also, certain family members overlapped with known QTLs controlling fruit shape in Solanaceous plants. Combined, these results may help elucidate the roles of SUN, OFP and YABBY family members in plant growth and development.

This controlled, randomized, in vitro study evaluated the shear bond strength of several seventh generation bonding agents on the dentin of primary teeth. Six different adhesives were used: Xeno IV, Clearfil S3 Bond, Adper Prompt-L-Pop, AdheSE One, Bond Force, and Optibond (control). Ninety primary teeth were prepared by wet grinding with a 320-grit silicon carbide paper on a polishing wheel running at 110 RPM. After 24 hours of storage in water, shear bond strengths of each group were determined. The mean shear bond strength of the tested adhesive systems to primary dentin was 12.27 MPa. One-way ANOVA testing showed a statistically significant difference between adhesive products (P < 0.001). Tukey HSD post hoc tests were used to assess which means were significantly different from one another. There was no statistically significant difference between the fifth generation adhesive system (Optibond) and the two seventh generation systems (Xeno IV and Bond Force), with Optibond exhibiting a lower mean shear bond strength compared to Bond Force. Within the limitations of this study, there is a significant difference between seventh generation bonding materials. Bond Force and Optibond appear to exhibit higher shear bond strengths than the other products.

PURPOSE: To assess the impact of delayed hemothorax on outcomes in blunt chest trauma patients without life-threatening condition at admission and characterize the predictive value of predefined anatomical factors for delayed hemothorax. METHODS: In a single-centre retrospective study, every spontaneous breathing patient admitted for a blunt chest trauma without significant pleural effusion at ICU admission was included. A multivariable regression model was used to determine the covariate-adjusted odd of secondary respiratory complications in patients with delayed hemothorax ≥ 500 ml. The characteristics of rib fractures (number, location and displacement) were integrated into a logistic regression model to determine variables associated with delayed hemothorax in multivariate analysis. RESULTS: Over the study period, 109 patients were included and the rate of delayed hemothorax ≥ 500 ml was 36%. Patients with delayed hemothorax had higher rates of pulmonary infections (OR 4.8 [1.6-16.4]) but no statistical association between delayed hemothorax and secondary respiratory failure (OR 2.0 [0.4-9.4]). A posterior location and a displaced rib fracture were independent predictors of delayed hemothorax (OR 3.4 [1.3-8.6] and OR 2.3 [1.1-5.1], respectively). At least one displaced rib fracture was more specific of delayed hemothorax than the commonly used threshold of three or more rib fractures (81.3 vs. 51.5%). CONCLUSION: Delayed hemothorax is a frequent complication associated with increased risk of pulmonary infection. The posterior location and the displacement of at least one rib fracture in the initial CT scan were independent risk factors for predicting the occurrence of delayed hemothorax.
