RESUMEN

With increasing interest in constructing more three-dimensional entities, there has been growing interest in cross-coupling reactions that forge C(sp3)-C(sp3) bonds, which leads to additional challenges as it is not just a more difficult bond to construct but issues of stereocontrol also arise. Herein, we report the stereocontrolled cross-coupling of enantioenriched boronic esters with racemic allylic carbonates enabled by iridium catalysis, leading to the formation of C(sp3)-C(sp3) bonds with single or vicinal stereogenic centers. The method shows broad substrate scope, enabling primary, secondary, and even tertiary boronic esters to be employed, and can be used to prepare any of the four possible stereoisomers of a coupled product with vicinal chiral centers. The new method, which combines the simultaneous enantiospecific reaction of a chiral nucleophile with the enantioselective reaction of a chiral electrophile in a single process, offers a solution for stereodivergent cross-coupling of two C(sp3) fragments.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the potential utility of [18F]fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for evaluating pulmonary artery (PA) masses, and compare it with [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT. METHODS: Participants with clinically suspected PA malignancy were prospectively enrolled and underwent dual-tracer PET/CT ([18F]FAPI-42 and [18F]FDG) imaging. Visual analysis and semi-quantitative parameters were compared between the two types of radiotracers. The tissue specimen underwent immunohistochemical staining to verify FAP expression in the tissue. RESULTS: Thirty-three patients (18 males/15 females; mean age 53.1 ± 15.4 years) were enrolled. All 21 patients with malignant PA masses were FDG-positive (100%), whereas 20 out of 21 patients were FAPI-positive (95.2%). All 12 patients with benign PA masses were both negative in FDG and FAPI PET. The mean maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and target-to-background ratio (TBR) of FAPI and FDG in malignant PA masses were significantly higher than those of benign masses. Although there was no significant difference in SUVmax between FDG and FAPI in malignant PA masses (11.36 vs. 9.18, p = 0.175), the TBR (liver) and TBR (left ventricle) were more favorable for FAPI than for FDG (13.04 vs. 5.17, p < 0.001); (median: 7.75 vs. 2.75, p = 0.007). Immunohistochemical analysis (n = 16) validated that the level of FAP expression corresponded strongly to the uptake of FAPI in PET/CT scans (rs = 0.712, p = 0.002). For clinical management, FAPI PET found more metastatic lesions than FDG PET in 4 patients, with 2 patients upgrading and 1 patient changing treatment decisions. CONCLUSIONS: FAPI PET/CT is feasible in the diagnosis of PA masses. Although not superior to FDG PET/CT, FAPI PET/CT showed better target-to-background contrast. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: This study found that FAPI PET/CT is not superior to FDG PET/CT in diagnosing PA masses, but FAPI PET/CT displays better target-to-background contrast and more positive lesions, which may help improve disease management. KEY POINTS: Pulmonary malignancies lack specificity in clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, and routine imaging examinations. FAPI PET/CT is not diagnostically better than FDG PET/CT but displays better target-to-background contrast and more positive lesions. Dual-tracer PET/CT ([18F]FAPI-42 and [18F]FDG) imaging improves clinical management of pulmonary artery masses.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a progressive pulmonary vascular disorder with substantial morbidity and mortality, also a disease underdiagnosed and undertreated. It is potentially curable by pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) in patients with surgically accessible thrombi. Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) and targeted medical therapy are options for patients with distal lesions or persistent/recurrent pulmonary hypertension after PEA. There is an urgent need to increase the awareness of CTEPH. Qualified CTEPH centers are still quite limited. Baseline characteristics, management pattern and clinical outcome of CTEPH in China needs to be reported. METHODS AND DESIGN: The CHinese reAl-world study to iNvestigate the manaGEment pattern and outcomes of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CHANGE) study is designed to provide the multimodality treatment pattern and clinical outcomes of CTEPH in China. Consecutive patients who are ≥ 14 year-old and diagnosed with CTEPH are enrolled. The diagnosis of CTEPH is confirmed in right heart catheterization and imaging examinations. The multimodality therapeutic strategy, which consists of PEA, BPA and targeted medical therapy, is made by a multidisciplinary team. The blood sample and tissue from PEA are stored in the central biobank for further research. The patients receive regular follow-up every 3 or 6 months for at least 3 years. The primary outcomes include all-cause mortality and changes in functional and hemodynamic parameters from baseline. The secondary outcomes include the proportion of patients experiencing lung transplantation, the proportion of patients experiencing heart and lung transplantation, and changes in health-related quality of life. Up to 31 December 2023, the study has enrolled 1500 eligible patients from 18 expert centers. CONCLUSIONS: As a real-world study, the CHANGE study is expected to increase our understanding of CTEPH, and to fill the gap between guidelines and the clinical practice in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients with CTEPH. RESUMEN

Aphis spiraecola Patch is one of the most economically important tree fruit pests worldwide. The pyrethroid insecticide lambda-cyhalothrin is commonly used to control A. spiraecola. In this 2-year study, we quantified the resistance level of A. spiraecola to lambda-cyhalothrin in different regions of the Shaanxi province, China. The results showed that A. spiraecola had reached extremely high resistance levels with a 174-fold resistance ratio (RR) found in the Xunyi region. In addition, we compared the enzymatic activity and expression level of P450 genes among eight A. spiraecola populations. The P450 activity of A. spiraecola was significantly increased in five regions (Xunyi, Liquan, Fengxiang, Luochuan, and Xinping) compared to susceptible strain (SS). The expression levels of CYP6CY7, CYP6CY14, CYP6CY22, P4504C1-like, P4506a13, CYP4CZ1, CYP380C47, and CYP4CJ2 genes were significantly increased under lambda-cyhalothrin treatment and in the resistant field populations. A L1014F mutation in the sodium channel gene was found and the mutation rate was positively correlated with the LC50 of lambda-cyhalothrin. In conclusion, the levels of lambda-cyhalothrin resistance of A. spiraecola field populations were associated with P450s and L1014F mutations. Our combined findings provide evidence on the resistance mechanism of A. spiraecola to lambda-cyhalothrin and give a theoretical basis for rational and effective control of this pest species.

RESUMEN

Celosia spp. is a widely cultivated ornamental plant in gardens or parks in Taiwan. In September 2021, withering leaves and grayish-brown lesions were observed on the lower stem of plumed cockscombs (C. argentea var. plumosa) in Taichung City, with an incidence of about 22% in 136 plants after continuous precipitation, impacting the aesthetic value of the landscape. Symptomatic plants were collected, surface disinfected with 70% EtOH for ~20 sec., blotted dried, and excised diseased tissues (~ 3×3 mm2) were placed on 2% water agar. Four representative isolates were obtained after purification and the colonies were white with aerial and non-septated hyphae on V8 agar for 7 days. Sporangia were ovoid, ellipsoid or obpyriform, papillate, (26.3-55.9) 38.0 × 29.0 (20.1-40.6) µm (n = 200) (Ahonsi et al. 2007). Chlamydospores were spherical, terminal or intercalary, 26.0 (15.1-40.4) µm (n = 200). All isolates belong to A2 mating type with amphigynous antheridia and plerotic oospores, 21.0 (17.7-25.7) µm (n = 200), resembling the descriptions of Phytophthora (Erwin & Ribeiro 1996). For molecular identification, sequences of the ITS, ß-tubulin (ß-tub), and EF-1α regions of all isolates were amplified using ITS1/ITS4, TUBUF2/TUBUR1, and ELONGF1/ELONGR1 primers, respectively (White et al. 1990; Kroon et al. 2004). BLAST analyses of isolates cap1-2 (ITS: OQ581785; ß-tub: OQ590022; EF-1α: OQ590026), cap1-3 (ITS: OQ581786; ß-tub: OQ590023; EF-1α: OQ590027), cap2-1 (ITS: OQ581787; ß-tub: OQ590024; EF-1α: OQ590028), and cap2-2 (ITS: OQ581788; ß-tub: OQ590025; EF-1α: OQ590029) showed 100% of ITS identity, 99.5 to 99.9% of ß-tub identity, and 99.4 to 99.6% of EF-1α identity with Phytophthora nicotianae (ITS: MG865551; ß-tub: MH493987; EF-1α: MH359043). Phylogenetic trees were constructed using concatenated ITS, ß-tub, and EF-1α sequences based on maximum likelihood with a GTR+G model in MEGA X and Bayesian inference method in Geneious Prime 2022.2. All isolates were clustered in P. nicotianae with similar topology, thereby were identified as P. nicotianae. To confirm pathogenicity, 7 to 10-day-old seedlings and 6-week-old plumed cockscomb plants were inoculated in separate trials and each experiment was conducted twice. For each seedling, the lower stem was inoculated with 50 µl of zoospore suspension (104 zoospores/ml), 3 plants per isolate, and then incubated at 30±2℃ with 12 h light. For adult plants, each was inoculated with mycelial plugs from one V8 plate of 10-day-old P. nicotianae, 5 plants per isolate, and incubated at 25±2℃ in a greenhouse. Control plants were inoculated with sterile water and V8 agar plugs, respectively. Stem and root rot were observed on seedlings 4 days after inoculation while wilting and lower stem browning were observed on adult plants 2 months after inoculation. All control plants remained healthy at the end of repeated trials and identical pathogens were re-isolated only from symptomatic plants, thus fulfilling Koch's rules. P. nicotianae has been reported causing root rot and stem necrosis not only on cockscomb (C. plumosa Hort. ex Burvenich) in Argentina (Frezzi 1950), but also infecting several ornamental plants recently in Taiwan (Ann et al. 2018). To our knowledge, this is the first report of stem blight caused by P. nicotianae on plumed cockscombs in Taiwan. This finding suggests limited options for landscaping and the host preference of the isolates obtained in this study should warrant further studies.

RESUMEN

Two series of vanillin derivatives containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,3-thiazolidin-4-one scaffolds were prepared and evaluated for their antifungal activity. The results revealed that compounds 6j (29.73 µg/ml) and 7a (38.15 µg/ml) displayed excellent inhibitory activity against the spore of Fusarium solani. The inhibitory activity of compound 7d (10.53 µg/ml) against the spore of Alternaria solani was more than 42-fold that of vanillin. Compound 7a (37.54 µg/ml) showed better antifungal activity against the spore of B. cinerea than positive controls. The cytotoxicity assay confirmed that compounds 6k, 7a, and 7d showed good selectivity and less toxicity to normal mammalian cells.

RESUMEN

The clinical data of coronary heart disease(CHD) patients treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Shenzhen Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine from January 2022 to March 2023 were retrospectively collected. This study involved the descriptive analysis of demographic characteristics, clinical symptoms, and tongue and pulse features. The χ~2 test was conducted to analyze the distribution of syndrome elements and their combinations at diffe-rent stages of CHD, so as to reveal the clinical characteristics and syndrome patterns at various pathological stages of CHD. This study extracted 28 symptom entries, 10 tongue manifestation entries, and 7 pulse manifestation entries, summarized the 5 main disease locations of the heart, lung, liver, spleen, and kidney, and the 8 main disease natures of blood stasis, phlegm turbidity, Qi stagnation, heat(fire), fluid retention, Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, and Yang deficiency and 8 combinations of disease natures. The χ~2 test showed significant differences in the distribution of syndrome elements including the lung, liver, spleen, kidney, blood stasis, heat(fire), Qi stagnation, heat syndrome, water retention, Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, and Yang deficiency between different disease stages. Specifically, the liver, blood stasis, heat(fire), and Qi stagnation accounted for the highest proportion during unstable stage, and the lung, spleen, kidney, water retention, Qi deficiency, Yin deficiency, and Yang deficiency accounted for the highest proportion at the end stage. The distribution of Qi deficiency varied in the different time periods after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI). As shown by the χ~2 test of the syndrome elements combination, the distribution of single disease location, multiple disease locations, single disease nature, double disease natures, multiple natures, excess syndrome, and mixture of deficiency and excess varied significantly at different stages of CHD. Specifically, single disease location, single disease nature, and excess syndrome accounted for the highest proportion during the stable stage, and double disease natures accounted for the highest proportion during the unstable stage. Multiple disease locations, multiple disease natures, and mixture of deficiency and excess accounted for the highest proportion during the end stage. In conclusion, phlegm turbidity and blood stasis were equally serious during the stable stage, and a pathological mechanism caused by blood stasis and toxin existed during the unstable stage. The overall Qi deficiency worsened after PCI, and the end stage was accompanied by the Yin and Yang damage and the aggravation of water retention. There were significant differences in the distribution of clinical characteristics and syndrome elements at different stages of CHD. The pathological process of CHD witnessed the growth and decline of deficiency and excess and the combination of phlegm turbidity and blood stasis, which constituted the basic pathogenesis.

RESUMEN

Enantioenriched organoboron intermediates are important building blocks in organic synthesis and drug discovery. Recently, transition metal-catalyzed enantioselective 1,2-metalate rearrangements of alkenylboronates have emerged as an attractive protocol to access these valuable reagents by installing two different carbon fragments across C═C π-bonds. Herein, we report the development of an iridium-catalyzed asymmetric allylation-induced 1,2-metalate rearrangement of bicyclo[1.1.0]butyl (BCB) boronate complexes enabled by strain release, which allows asymmetric difunctionalization of C-C σ-bonds, including dicarbonation and carboboration. This protocol provides a variety of enantioenriched three-dimensional 1,1,3-trisubstituted cyclobutane products bearing a boronic ester that can be readily derivatized. Notably, the reaction gives trans diastereoisomers that result from an anti-addition across the C-C σ-bond, which is in contrast to the syn-additions observed for reactions promoted by PdII-aryl complexes and other electrophiles in our previous works. The diastereoselectivity has been rationalized based on a combination of experimental data and density functional theory calculations, which suggest that the BCB boronate complexes are highly nucleophilic and react via early transition states with low activation barriers.

RESUMEN

Background Various limitations have impacted research evaluating reader agreement for Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS). Purpose To assess reader agreement of LI-RADS in an international multicenter multireader setting using scrollable images. Materials and Methods This retrospective study used deidentified clinical multiphase CT and MRI and reports with at least one untreated observation from six institutions and three countries; only qualifying examinations were submitted. Examination dates were October 2017 to August 2018 at the coordinating center. One untreated observation per examination was randomly selected using observation identifiers, and its clinically assigned features were extracted from the report. The corresponding LI-RADS version 2018 category was computed as a rescored clinical read. Each examination was randomly assigned to two of 43 research readers who independently scored the observation. Agreement for an ordinal modified four-category LI-RADS scale (LR-1, definitely benign; LR-2, probably benign; LR-3, intermediate probability of malignancy; LR-4, probably hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC]; LR-5, definitely HCC; LR-M, probably malignant but not HCC specific; and LR-TIV, tumor in vein) was computed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Agreement was also computed for dichotomized malignancy (LR-4, LR-5, LR-M, and LR-TIV), LR-5, and LR-M. Agreement was compared between research-versus-research reads and research-versus-clinical reads. Results The study population consisted of 484 patients (mean age, 62 years ± 10 [SD]; 156 women; 93 CT examinations, 391 MRI examinations). ICCs for ordinal LI-RADS, dichotomized malignancy, LR-5, and LR-M were 0.68 (95% CI: 0.61, 0.73), 0.63 (95% CI: 0.55, 0.70), 0.58 (95% CI: 0.50, 0.66), and 0.46 (95% CI: 0.31, 0.61) respectively. Research-versus-research reader agreement was higher than research-versus-clinical agreement for modified four-category LI-RADS (ICC, 0.68 vs 0.62, respectively; P = .03) and for dichotomized malignancy (ICC, 0.63 vs 0.53, respectively; P = .005), but not for LR-5 (P = .14) or LR-M (P = .94). Conclusion There was moderate agreement for LI-RADS version 2018 overall. For some comparisons, research-versus-research reader agreement was higher than research-versus-clinical reader agreement, indicating differences between the clinical and research environments that warrant further study. © RSNA, 2023 Supplemental material is available for this article. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) and total mesorectal excision are standard treatment regimen for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). This sphincter-saving treatment strategy may be accompanied by a series of anorectal functional disorders. Yet, prospective studies that dynamically evaluating the respective roles of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery on anorectal function are lacking. PATIENTS/DESIGN: The study is a prospective, observational, controlled, multicentre study. After screening for eligibility and obtaining informed consent, a total of 402 LARC patients undergoing NCRT followed by surgery, or neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery, or surgery only would be included in the trial. The primary outcome measure is the average resting pressure of anal sphincter. The secondary outcome measures are maximum anal sphincter contraction pressure, Wexner continence score and low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) score. Evaluations will be carried out at the following stages: baseline (T1), after radiotherapy or chemotherapy (before surgery, T2), after surgery (before closing the temporary stoma, T3), and at follow-up visits (every 3 to 6 months, T4, T5……). Follow-up for each patient will be at least 2 years. DISCUSSION: We expect the program to provide more information of neoadjuvant radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy on anorectal function, and to optimize the treatment strategy to reduce anorectal dysfunction for LARC patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05671809). Registered on 26 December 2022.

RESUMEN

Polyoxometalate (POM)-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials possess versatile properties and applications; however, the ratios of organic cations to POM anions still remain to be solved. In this work, 14 POM-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials were synthesized by the precipitation, hydrothermal, and solvent-evaporation methods. These hybrid materials consisted of a wide range of quaternary ammonium and imidazolium cations with different alkyl chains and different Keggin-type heteropolyanions [i.e., phosphotungstic ([PW12O40]3-), phosphomolybdic ([PMo12O40]3-), silicotungstic ([SiW12O40]4-), and silicomolybdic ([SiMo12O40]4-) anions]. Their compositions and structures were characterized complementarily by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The actual ratios of organic cations to heteropolyanions of [PW12O40]3-, [PMo12O40]3-, [SiW12O40]4-, and [SiMo12O40]4- were found to always be 3:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 4:1, respectively, independent of the organic cations, synthesis methods, and reaction parameters. This finding demonstrates that the organic cations completely substituted the protons of the heteropolyacid precursors in the hybrid materials, which thus hardly possessed Brønsted acidity probed by the pyridine adsorption and cellulose hydrolysis reaction. Such complete substitution of the protons arose apparently from the strong noncovalent interactions between the organic cations and heteropolyanions (such as electrostatic and C-H···O interactions) in the POM-based hybrid materials.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has excellent accuracy in diagnosing preoperative lesions before anal fistula surgery. However, MRI is not good in identifying early recurrent lesions and effective methods for quantitative assessment of fistula healing are still warranted. This retrospective study aimed to develop and validate a specific MRI-based nomogram model to predict fistula healing during the early postoperative period. METHODS: Patients with complex cryptoglandular anal fistulas who underwent surgery between January 2017 and October 2020 were included in this study. MRI features and clinical parameters were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. A nomogram for predicting fistula healing was constructed and validated. RESULTS: In total, 200 patients were included, of whom 186 (93%) were male, with a median age of 36 (18-65) years. Of the fistulas, 58.5% were classified as transsphincteric and 19.5% as suprasphincteric. The data were randomly divided into the training cohort and testing cohort at a ratio of 7:3. Logistic analysis revealed that CNR, ADC, alcohol intake history, and suprasphincteric fistula were significantly correlated with fistula healing. These four predictors were used to construct a predictive nomogram model in the training cohort. AUC was 0.880 and 0.847 for the training and testing cohorts, respectively. Moreover, the decision and calibration curves showed high coherence between the predicted and actual probabilities of fistula healing. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a predictive model and constructed a nomogram to predict fistula healing during the early postoperative period. This model showed good performance and may be clinically utilized for the management of anal fistulas.

RESUMEN

Reactive fillers consisting of reduced sulfur and iron species (SFe-ReFs) have received increasing attention in tertiary wastewater treatment for nitrate and phosphate coremoval. However, the existing SFe-ReFs suffer from either low performance (e.g., pyrrhotite and pyrite) or unsatisfactory use in terms of combustible risk and residual nonreactive impurities (e.g., sulfur mixing with natural iron ores). Here, we developed a new type of sulfur-siderite composite ReF (SSCReF) with a structure of natural siderite powders eventually embedded into sulfur. SSCReFs exhibited many excellent properties, including higher mechanical strengths and hardness and especially much poorer ignitability compared to pure sulfur. By using SSCReF to construct packed-bed reactors, the highest denitrification and dephosphorization rates reached 829.70 gN/m3/d (25 wt % siderite) and 36.70 gP/m3/d (75 wt % siderite), respectively. Dephosphorization was demonstrated to be dependent on sulfur-driven denitrification, in which the acid produced from the later process promoted Fe(II) dissolution, which then directly combined with phosphate to form vivianite or further converted into phosphate adsorbents (ferrihydrite, a green rust-like compound). Water flush was an effective way to finally wash out these surface deposited Fe-P compounds, as well as those nonreactive impurities (Si and Al-bearing compounds) detached from SSCReF. Such a highly efficient and safe SSCReF holds considerable application potential in secondary effluent polishing.

RESUMEN

Vascular epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), as an important tyrosine transmembrane protein, plays an important role in regulating endothelial cell proliferation and migration, regulating angiogenesis and other biological functions. VEGFR-2 is aberrantly expressed in many malignant tumors, and it is also related to the occurrence, development, and growth of tumors and drug resistance. Currently, there are nine VEGFR-2 targeted inhibitors approved by US.FDA for clinical use as anticancer drugs. Due to the limited clinical efficacy and potential toxicity of VEGFR inhibitors, it is necessary to develop new strategies to improve the clinical efficacy of VEGFR inhibitors. The development of multitarget therapy, especially dual-target therapy, has become a hot research field of cancer therapy, which may provide an effective strategy with higher therapeutic efficacy, pharmacokinetic advantages and low toxicity. Many groups have reported that the therapeutic effects could be improved by simultaneously inhibiting VEGFR-2 and other targets, such as EGFR, c-Met, BRAF, HDAC, etc. Therefore, VEGFR-2 inhibitors with multi-targeting capabilities have been considered to be promising and effective anticancer agents for cancer therapy. In this work, we reviewed the structure and biological functions of VEGFR-2, and summarized the drug discovery strategies, and inhibitory activities of VEGFR-2 inhibitors with multi-targeting capabilities reported in recent years. This work might provide the reference for the development of VEGFR-2 inhibitors with multi-targeting capabilities as novel anticancer agents.

RESUMEN

Fusarium wilt of Luffa, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. luffae, causes great losses in Luffa plants worldwide. In this study, 45 accessions of Luffa germplasm were used to determine their resistance to F. oxysporum f. sp. luffae isolates (FOLUST, FOLUSC, Fomh16, and Fol114) in two independent trials. In the first trial, only FOLUST was used to preliminarily identify resistant accessions. Nine accessions of Luffa acutangula and five of L. aegyptiaca were resistant to the FOLUST isolate. In the second trial, the other three isolates were then used to reevaluate the 14 resistant accessions. The results indicated that the 14 accessions were resistant to FOLUSC but exhibited variable resistance to the Fomh16 and Fol114 isolates. Eight accessions of L. acutangula and one accession of L. aegyptiaca were resistant to Fol114. Seven accessions of L. acutangula and one accession of L. aegyptiaca were resistant to Fomh16. Despite the lack of any symptoms, the F. oxysporum f. sp. luffae isolates were recovered from the hypocotyls of all resistant accessions at 28 days postinoculation, except for isolates FOLUSC and FOLUST on one accession (LA140). A high percentage (87.5%) of accessions collected from Bangladesh were identified as resistant, highlighting the effect of local adaptation on resistance. These results provide potentially valuable genetic resources for breeding programs to develop new varieties or rootstocks that could be beneficial for controlling soilborne diseases in different cucurbit crops and further investigating the mechanisms of resistance to F. oxysporum f. sp. luffae in Luffa plants.

RESUMEN

New Guinea impatiens (Impatiens hawkeri) is a common ornamental crop usually planted in pots and planters, flower beds, home gardens, or parks in Taiwan. In June 2021, leaf spots on 87.1% (27/31) of potted I. hawkeri plants on National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) campus were observed. Initially, tiny chlorotic leaf spots were found, which aged into brown to grayish white necrotic spots with reddish-purple margins. The necrotic spots enlarged, coalesced, and formed concentric rings. To isolate the pathogen, diseased leaves were surface-disinfected with 70% ethanol for 15 seconds and blotted dry with a paper towel. Small pieces (~2×6 mm2) of tissues were excised from the junction of the lesions and healthy areas, placed onto 2% water agar, and incubated at 25°C with 12-h photoperiod for three days. Individual hyphal tips growing out of diseased tissues were transferred onto potato dextrose agar (PDA). Three isolates, OM10, OM43, and OM45, were obtained and grown on half-strength PDA at 28°C in the dark for at least two weeks. Conidia of each isolate produced on the half-strength PDA were washed off in sterile water with 0.01% of Tween 20. Pathogenicity tests were performed by spraying leaves of 2- to 3-month-old potted healthy I. hawkeri plants with 5 ml of conidial suspension (1 × 105 conidia/ml) of the three isolates, respectively. Control plants were sprayed with sterile water. There were four plants per treatment and the experiments were conducted twice. Inoculated plants were covered with plastic bags for two days and incubated in a greenhouse with a temperature range of 19 to 31°C. Leaf spots similar to those observed in the field were observed at 7 to 14 days after inoculation in both trials. The same fungus was isolated from inoculated plants, whereas control plants showed no symptoms. Thereafter, the three isolates were subjected to morphological and molecular identification. Colonies were brown to gray in the center and white in the border with abundant aerial mycelia. Conidia were brown, obclavate to ovoid, produced in single or branched chains, one to seven transverse and zero to three longitudinal septa. Conidial size of the three isolates ranged between 11.2 to 43.1 × 6.0 to 12.7 µm (n = 50 for each isolate). Conidiophores of the three isolates were dark-brown, septate, branched or unbranched, and measured 27.0 to 147.65 × 2.71 to 4.54 µm (n = 50 for each isolate). Based on the morphological characteristics, the three isolates were identified as Alternaria spp. (Simmons 2007). For molecular identification, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), and major allergen Alt-a-1 gene (Alt-a-1) were amplified using primer pairs ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990), RPB2-5F2/RPB2-7cR (Sung et al. 2007), gpd1/gpd2 (Berbee et al. 1999), and Alt-for/Alt-rev (Hong et al. 2005), respectively. Sequence analyses of isolates OM10 (ITS: GenBank Accession no. OP358436; RPB2: OP377483; GAPDH: OP377468; Alt-a-1: OP377471), OM43 (ITS: OP358437; RPB2: OP377484; GAPDH: OP377469; Alt-a-1: OP377472), and OM45 (ITS: OP358438; RPB2: OP377485; GAPDH: OP377470; Alt-a-1: OP377473) showed 100%, 99.61 to 100%, 99.65%, and 100% identities with a reference strain CBS 107.38 of A. burnsii for ITS (KP124420), RPB2 (KP124889), GAPDH (JQ646305), and Alt-a-1 (KP123967), respectively. They also showed 100%, 99.61 to 100%, 99.65%, and 99.58% identities with an A. tomato strain CBS 103.30 for ITS (KP124445), RPB2 (KP124915), GAPDH (KP124294), and Alt-a-1 (KP123991), respectively. Based on the morphological and sequence characteristics, the pathogen causing New Guinea impatiens leaf spot was identified as a member of the Alternaria burnsii - A. tomato species complex. The diseased plants on NCHU campus were destroyed. There have been no reports of the disease in other landscape areas or nurseries. To our knowledge, this is the first report of A. burnsii - A. tomato species complex causing New Guinea impatiens leaf spot in Taiwan. Since the pathogens in the species complex have been documented causing diseases on several important economic crops and the New Guinea impatiens is widely planted in nurseries and landscapes, the host range and the significance of the pathogen in agro-ecosystem may warrant further investigations.

RESUMEN

Brown root rot disease (BRRD), caused by Phellinus noxius, is an important tree disease in tropical and subtropical areas. To improve chemical control of BRRD and deter emergence of fungicide resistance in P. noxius, this study investigated control efficacies and systemic activities of fungicides with different modes of action. Fourteen fungicides with 11 different modes of action were tested for inhibitory effects in vitro on 39 P. noxius isolates from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, and Pacific Islands. Cyproconazole, epoxiconazole, and tebuconazole (Fungicide Resistance Action Committee [FRAC] 3, target-site G1) inhibited colony growth of P. noxius by 99.9 to 100% at 10 ppm and 97.7 to 99.8% at 1 ppm. The other effective fungicide was cyprodinil + fludioxonil (FRAC 9 + 12, target-site D1 + E2), which showed growth inhibition of 96.9% at 10 ppm and 88.6% at 1 ppm. Acropetal translocation of six selected fungicides was evaluated in bishop wood (Bischofia javanica) seedlings by immersion of the root tips in each fungicide at 100 ppm, followed by liquid or gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry analyses of consecutive segments of root, stem, and leaf tissues at 7 and 21 days posttreatment. Bidirectional translocation of the fungicides was also evaluated by stem injection of fungicide stock solutions. Cyproconazole and tebuconazole were the most readily absorbed by roots and efficiently transported acropetally. Greenhouse experiments suggested that cyproconazole, tebuconazole, and epoxiconazole have a slightly higher potential for controlling BRRD than mepronil, prochloraz, and cyprodinil + fludioxonil. Because all tested fungicides lacked basipetal translocation, soil drenching should be considered instead of trunk injection for their use in BRRD control.

RESUMEN

In factories, energy conservation is a crucial issue. The co-fabrication space is a modern-day equivalent of a new factory type, and it makes use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as sensors, software, and online connectivity, to keep track of various building features, analyze data, and produce reports on usage patterns and trends that can be used to improve building operations and the environment. The co-fabrication user requires dynamic and flexible space, which is different from the conventional user's usage. Because the user composition in a co-fabrication space is dynamic and unstable, we cannot use the conventional approach to assess their usage and rentals. Prototyping necessitates a specifically designed energy-saving strategy. The research uses a "seeing-moving-seeing" design thinking framework, which enables designers to more easily convey their ideas to others through direct observation of the outcomes of their intuitive designs and the representation of their works through design media. The three components of human behavior, physical manufacture, and digital interaction are primarily the focus of this work. The computing system that connects the physical machine is created through communication between the designer and the digital interface, giving the designer control over the physical machine. It is an interactive fabrication process formed by behavior. The Sensible Energy System+ is an interactive fabrication process of virtual and real coexistence created by combining the already-existing technology, the prototype fabrication machine, and SENS. This process analyzes each step of the fabrication process and energy, fits it into the computing system mode to control the prototype fabrication machine, and reduces the problem between virtual and physical fabrication and energy consumption.

RESUMEN

Due to the development of wireless network technology, various applications relying on good network quality are widely used on mobile devices. Taking the commonly used video streaming service as an example, a network with high throughput and low packet loss rate can meet the service requirements. When the moving distance of the mobile device is greater than the signal coverage of the AP, it will trigger the handover process to connect to another AP, and cause the network to disconnect and reconnect instantaneously. However, frequently triggering the handover procedure will cause a significant drop in network performance and affect the operation of application services. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes the OHA and OHAQR. The OHA considers whether the signal quality is good or bad, and uses the corresponding HM method to solve the problem of frequent handover procedures. The OHAQR integrates the QoS requirements of the throughput and packet loss rate into the OHA with the Q-handover score, to provide high-performance handover services with QoS. Our experimental results show that the OHA and OHAQR have 13 and 15 handovers in a high-density scenario, respectively, and are better than the other two methods. The actual throughput and packet loss rate of the OHAQR are 123 Mbps and 5%, respectively, and the network performance is better than that of other methods. The proposed method shows excellent performance in ensuring the network QoS requirements and reducing the number of handover procedures.

RESUMEN

Atherosclerosis(AS) is the key pathological basis of coronary heart disease(CHD), and lipid infiltration is a classical theory to explain the pathological mechanism of AS. The theory highlights that the occurrence and development of AS are closely related to abnormal lipid metabolism, with the essence of the pathological reaction caused by the invasion of lipids into arterial intima from plasma. Phlegm and blood stasis are physiologically homologous and subject to pathological co-existence. Phlegm-blood stasis correlation is the basic theory to explain the pathogenesis characteristics of CHD and has important guiding significance for revealing the mecha-nism of lipid infiltration of CHD. Phlegm is the pathological product of abnormal metabolism of Qi, blood, and body fluid, and a gene-ral summary of a series of abnormally expressed lipid substances. Among them, turbid phlegm invades the heart vessels, gradually accumulates, and condenses to achieve the qualitative change from "invisible pathogen" to "tangible pathogen", which corresponds to the mechanism of lipid migration and deposition in the intima of blood vessels, and is the starting factor of the disease. Blood stasis is the continuous development of phlegm, and it is a result of pathological states such as decreased blood fluidity, increased blood coagulation, and abnormal rheology. The fact that blood stasis caused by phlegm accords with the pathological process of "lipid abnormality-circulatory disturbance" and is the central link of the disease. Phlegm and blood stasis aggravate each other and lead to indissoluble cementation. The phlegm-blood stasis combination serves as common pathogen to trigger the disease, which is the inevitable outcome of the disease. Based on the phlegm-blood stasis correlation theory, the simultaneous treatment of phlegm and blood stasis is established. It is found that this therapy can simultaneously regulate blood lipid, reduce blood viscosity, and improve blood circulation, which can fundamentally cut off the biological material basis of the reciprocal transformation between phlegm and blood stasis, thus exerting a significant curative effect.
