RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: FAST and Stroke-112 are two campaigns to reduce the emergency room arrival time of stroke patients. No study has compared the effectiveness of these campaigns. This study aimed to compare recalling capacity of people in these two campaigns. METHODS: A prospective, open-label randomized study was conducted in 2019. Recall ability for the items of the two campaigns on the 5th and 30th days post-education was compared using non-parametric methods. Subject characteristics including age, education level, presence of stroke in co-residents, and habitual language were evaluated using multiple ordered logistic regression. RESULTS: There were 202 participants in FAST group and 193 participants in Stroke-112 group who completed the study. No differences were observed between the two groups in recall ability, either on day 5 or day 30 after receiving education. For both campaigns, recall ability was better for signs in the face (FAST: 87.1%, Stroke-112: 86.5%) and the arm (FAST: 87.1%, Stroke-112: 88.1%) than for abnormality in speech (FAST: 78.7%, Stroke-112: 76.7%) on day 5. Recall ability on day 30 remained the same only for the arm item (FAST: 86.1%, Stroke-112: 88.6%). The recall ability was correlated to education level equal or more than 7 years in FAST group, and was inversely correlated to age and being a stroke patient in Stroke-112 group. CONCLUSION: We found no difference in recall ability between the 2 campaigns. Education level was associated with recallability of FAST, and age and stroke history were associated with recallability of Stroke-112.

RESUMEN

We have used different molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticle concentrations (0~10 wt%) for doping the hybrid active P3HT:PCBM layer. The root mean square (rms) roughness of the layer increased as the MoS2 nanoparticle concentration increased. The hybrid film with MoS2 has higher absorption intensity than the pristine film. The maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) was 2.73% with 5 wt% MoS2 concentration, higher than that (2.08%) obtained without MoS2.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Discharge disposition planning is vital for poststroke patients. We investigated clinical factors associated with discharging patients to nursing homes, using the Taiwan Stroke Registry data collected from 39 major hospitals. METHODS: We randomly assigned 21,575 stroke inpatients registered from 2006 to 2008 into derivation and validation groups at a 3-to-1 ratio. We used the derivation group to develop a prediction model by measuring cumulative risk scores associated with potential predictors: age, sex, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, stroke history, snoring, main caregivers, stroke types, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Probability of nursing home care and odds ratio (OR) of nursing home care relative to home care by cumulative risk scores were measured for the prediction. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was used to assess the model discrimination against the validation group. RESULTS: Except for hypertension, all remaining potential predictors were significant independent predictors associated with stroke patient disposition to nursing home care after discharge from hospitals. The risk sharply increased with age and NIHSS. Patients with a cumulative risk score of 15 or more had an OR of 86.4 for the nursing home disposition. The AUROC plots showed similar areas under curves for the derivation group (.86, 95% confidence interval [CI], .85-.87) and for the validation group (.84, 95% CI, .83-.86). CONCLUSIONS: The cumulative risk score is an easy-to-estimate tool for preparing stroke patients and their family for disposition on discharge.

RESUMEN

The board of directors of a nonprofit proprietary hospital is responsible for supervising and managing major operational matters and reviewing operational results. This study investigates how hospital financial performance is influenced by director and supervisor characteristics among the board members of nonprofit proprietary hospitals in Taiwan. Data were obtained from the Division of Medical Services of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. A generalized linear model was used to evaluate 32 non-profit proprietary hospitals for the years 2006 to 2017, totaling 363 observations. The empirical results revealed a significant positive correlation between the proportion of directors with management qualifications and hospital financial performance. Moreover, the results represented that a higher proportion of board members with a medical background did not correspond to higher hospital financial performance. Although doctors accounted for the highest proportion of board members, indicating their key role in hospital management, the need for board members with management expertise cannot be ignored. Therefore, a balance between directors with management experience and medical knowledge on the board of directors is beneficial for hospital financial performance.

RESUMEN

Overloaded work and life stress often result in excessive fatigue and stresses in people, further leading to psychological burden and physiological disease. In this case, good rest is important in busy life. Good rest could result in good quality of life and work efficiency. In order to assist people in getting into deep rest to obtain a restorative state after fatigue, a dynamic lighting system with low-frequency change for assisting users in effective relaxation is proposed in this study. Heart rate variability analysis is used for discussing the change in the autonomic nervous system of the subjects under dynamic lighting environment, and a self-report questionnaire is applied to understand the subjects' psychological feeling. The research results indicate that the subjects significantly showed enhancement in the activities of parasympathetic nervous system within 25 minutes in the dynamic lighting process, in comparison with the steady lighting system. The questionnaire survey results also reveal that the subjects receive higher quality of rest, after the dynamic and low-illuminance lighting stimuli, with good feeling.

RESUMEN

The properties of H2S gas sensing were investigated using a ZnO nanostructure prepared with AZO (zinc oxide with aluminium) and Al surfaces which were developed on a MEMS (Micro Electromechanical System) device. Hydrothermal synthesis was implemented for the deposition of the ZnO nanostructure. To find the optimal conditions for H2S gas sensing, different ZnO growth times and different temperatures were considered and tested, and the results were analysed. At 250 °C and 90 min growth time, a ZnO sensor prepared with AZO and 40 nm Al recorded an 8.5% H2S gas-sensing response at a 200 ppb gas concentration and a 14% sensing response at a gas concentration of 1000 ppb. The dominant sensing response provided the optimal conditions for the ZnO sensor, which were 250 °C temperature and 90 min growth time. Gas sensor selectivity was tested with five different gases (CO, SO2, NO2, NH3 and H2S) and the sensor showed great selectivity towards H2S gas.

RESUMEN

A flexible Ti/Cr/Ti multilayer strain gauge have been successfully developed based on polyimide substrate. The pure Ti metal strain gauge have shown the hysteresis phenomenon at the relationship between resistance and strain during tensile test. The experimental results of multilayer strain gauge show that adding Cr interlayer can improve the recovery and stability of the sensing electrode. When the interlayer Cr thickness was increased from 0 to 70 nm, the resistance decreased from 27 to 8.8 kΩ. The gauge factor (GF) value also decreased from 4.24 to 2.31 with the increase in the thickness of Cr interlayer from 30 to 70 nm, and the hysteresis phenomenon disappeared gradually. The multilayer Ti/Cr/Ti film has feasible application for strain sensor.

RESUMEN

Optical properties and growth mechanism of La3Ga5.5Nb0.5O14 oxides by a Pechini process were investigated. The structure and morphology were obtained after sintering at 600-800 °C. This crystallized orthorhombic La3Ga5.5Nb0.5O14 can be obtained by the heat treatment process at 800 °C from XRD. A proposed schematic growth mechanism of La3Ga5.5Nb0.5O14 macroporous based on the details provided is shown. The photo-luminescence spectra shown that under 327 nm excitation spectra, a broad and blue emission peak is observed at 475 nm at 77 K and this spectrum is originated from the [NbO6]7- octahedra group. The optical absorption spectra of the 800 °C sample exhibited a well-crystalline and very low oxygen vacancy, which corresponded to the band gap energies of 3.95 eV.

RESUMEN

In this study, a flexible and stable pH sensor based on aluminum-doped zinc oxide nanosheets (Al-doped ZnO NSs) was developed by a low-cost hydrothermal method. The results obtained from this study indicated that Al ions could be doped successfully into the ZnO nanostructure, which could change the morphology and improve the pH-sensing properties. The pH sensitivity of Al-doped ZnO nanosheets reached 50.2 mV/pH with a correlation coefficient of around 0.99468 when compared with that of ZnO film (34.13 mV/pH) and pure ZnO nanowires (45.89 mV/pH). The test range of pH values was widened by Al-doping, and the Al-doped ZnO NS sensor could detect the pH value ranging from 2 to 12. It was observed that in a more acidic environment, especially at pH 2, the sensor, Al-doped ZnO nanosheet, was strongly stable over 12 weeks of testing. It was noted that the response time was utterly fast and the response time of the sensors for each pH standard buffer solutions was around 0.3 s. Thus, the response time and performance were quite stable. The microchannel provided a novel testing method for the pH sensor, where the liquid to be tested was just 5 mL. Hence, it was suggested to be useful for many medical diagnoses and treatments. The benefits of Al-doped ZnO nanosheet pH sensor were high sensitivity, good long-term usage, good flexible property, and requirement of a small amount of test liquid, which could make the sensors viable candidates for practical applications.

RESUMEN

The entire chloroplast genome of Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg was identified as a circular molecule of 174,885 bp length with a typical tetrad structure, including a pair of inverted repeats (42,103 bp each), a large single copy (87,331 bp) and a small single copy (3,348 bp) regions. The A. sinensis cp genome encoded 8 rRNAs, 39 tRNAs, and 90 proteins. A phylogenetic tree was reconstructed using the 43 protein-coding genes of eight Thymelaeaceae. Two other Malvales, Abelmoschus esculentus and Durio zibethinus, were selected as the outgroup. Our phylogenetic analysis suggests that the five examined species of Aquilaria appeared a monophyletic group with robust support.

RESUMEN

Two tetrapyridyl ligands of 1,2,4,5-tetraethynyl(4-pyridyl)benzene (tpeb) and tetra(4-pyridyl)-tetrathiafulvalene (TTF(py)4) were used to react with trinuclear (Re(CO)4)3(C3N3S3) (C3N3S3 = cyanurate trianion) moieties to afford hexanuclear [(Re(CO)3)6(tpeb)2(C3N3S3)2]·4CH3CN·toluene (1) and dodecanuclear [(Re(CO)3)12(TTF(py)4)3(C3N3S3)4]·8CH3CN·12DMF (2) boxes, respectively, under solvothermal conditions. Surprisingly, similar tetrapyridyl ligands with different core units (i.e., benzene and tetrathiafulvalene moieties) led to dramatically different structural motifs (i.e., hexanuclear and dodecanuclear boxes). Complex 1 forms a slightly bent trigonal-prismatic structure, containing two µ3-tpeb ligands and two Re3C3N3S3 moieties as well as a ππ interaction distance of 3.86 Å. It is noted that complex 2 features a novel four-star structure, and three crossed tetrathiafulvalene moieties from three µ4-TTF(py)4 ligands to form a triple-decker arrangement with a ππ interaction distance of 3.70 Å. Moreover, 1 and 2 display luminescence properties in the solid state along with electrochemical properties for complex 2 arising from the electroactive TTF core.

RESUMEN

Construction of multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs) with near-infrared (NIR) plasmonic responses is considered a versatile and multifaceted platform for several biomedical applications. Herein, a double layer of Au/Ag alloy on the surface of truncated octahedral iron oxide NPs (IONPs) was prepared and the distance between the layers was controlled to exhibit broad and strong NIR absorption. The rattle-shaped IONP@shell-in-shell nanostructure showed light-response to the NIR biological window from 650 to 1300 nm for photothermal therapy (PTT) and magnetic guidance for hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosis. Exposing the aqueous solution of IONP@shell-in-shell to a 1064 nm diode laser, its heat conversion efficiency was ∼28.3%. The in vitro cell viability at a gold concentration of 100 ppm was ∼85%, and decreased to ∼16% when the cells were treated with the NIR irradiation and magnetic attraction. T2-weighted MRI images showed a clear accumulation of IONP@shell-in-shell at the tumor site with magnetic attraction. In vivo luminescence tumor images explained that the IONP@shell-in-shell could reduce the U87MG-luc2 cancer cell proliferation in mice with the NIR irradiation and magnetic attraction. These results indicate the IONP@shell-in-shell as a promising nanomedicine for PTT, magnetic targeting, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

RESUMEN

An ultraviolet-enhanced (UV-enhanced) nitric oxide (NO) sensor based on silver-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflowers is developed using a low-cost hydrothermal method. The results indicate that silver (Ag) ions were doped into the ZnO nanostructure successfully, thus changing the morphology. In the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images, we also found that some Ag ions were separated out onto the surface of the ZnO nanoflowers and that the Ag-doped and Ag nanoparticles improved the sensing property. The NO sensing property increased from 73.91 to 89.04% through the use of a UV light-emitting diode (UV-LED). The response time was approximately 120 s without the UV-LED, and the UV-enhanced Ag-doped ZnO nanoflower sensor exhibited a reduced response time (60 s). The best working temperature could be reduced from 200 to 150 °C using UV light illumination, and it was found that the NO response increased by 15.13% at 150 °C. The UV photoresponse of the Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers and the mechanisms by which the improvement of NO sensing property occurred through the use of UV light illumination are discussed. The property of the gas sensor can be calibrated using a self-photoelectric effect under UV light illumination. These interesting UV-enhanced Ag-doped ZnO nanoflowers are viable candidates for practical applications.

RESUMEN

The ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors with ZnO nanorods (NRs)/CdS thin film heterostructures on glass substrates have been fabricated and characterized. It can be seen that the UV photoresponsivity of such a device became higher as the ZnO NR length was increased in the investigation. With an incident wavelength of 350 nm and 5 V applied bias, the responsivity of photodetectors based on ZnO NR/CdS heterostructures with the ZnO NR length at 500, 350, and 200 nm and traditional CdS film were at 12.86, 3.83, 0.91, and 0.75 A/W, respectively. The measurement results of the fabricated photodetectors based on ZnO nanorods (NRs)/CdS heterostructures have shown a significant high sensitivity in the range of UV light, which can be useful for the application of UV detection.

RESUMEN

The relationship between cholesterol level and hemorrhagic stroke is inconclusive. We hypothesized that low cholesterol levels may have association with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) severity at admission and 3-month outcomes. This study used data obtained from a multi-center stroke registry program in Taiwan. We categorized acute spontaneous ICH patients, based on their baseline levels of total cholesterol (TC) measured at admission, into 3 groups with <160, 160-200 and >200 mg/dL of TC. We evaluated risk of having initial stroke severity, with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) >15 and unfavorable outcomes (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score >2, 3-month mortality) after ICH by the TC group. A total of 2444 ICH patients (mean age 62.5±14.2 years; 64.2% men) were included in this study and 854 (34.9%) of them had baseline TC <160 mg/dL. Patients with TC <160 mg/dL presented more often severe neurological deficit (NIHSS >15), with an adjusted odds ratio [aOR] of 1.80; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.41-2.30), and 3-month mRS >2 (aOR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.11-1.78) using patients with TC >200 mg/dL as reference. Those with TC >160 mg/dL and body mass index (BMI) <22 kg/m2 had higher risk of 3-month mortality (aOR 3.94, 95% CI 1.76-8.80). Prior use of lipid-lowering drugs (2.8% of the ICH population) was not associated with initial severity and 3-month outcomes. A total cholesterol level lower than 160 mg/dL was common in patients with acute ICH and was associated with greater neurological severity on presentation and poor 3-month outcomes, especially with lower BMI.

RESUMEN

The optoelectronic characteristics of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)/ZnO flexible photodetectors are investigated. A red-shift effect and improved photocurrent properties of the flexible devices are demonstrated. MoS2 doping improved the photocurrent properties and conductivity. The photocurrent/dark current ratios of pure ZnO and MoS2/ZnO flexible photodetectors were 10(3) and 10(4), respectively. The responsivity of MoS2/ZnO increased, and the wavelength was red-shifted.

RESUMEN

Photo-assisted one-step electrodeposition has been applied to help in forming smooth and dense CuInSe2 films. The difference in surface morphology and crystalline quality between CuInSe2 films with various photo-assistance has been investigated. In the photo-assisted electrodeposition process, the many kinds of lamps providing maximum light intensity at about 380 to 620 nm were used as light source to be irradiated onto the surface of Mo-coated soda-lime glass substrates. The results suggested effects of photo-assistance including activating surface diffusion and growing high-crystalline quality films with reduced defects during electrodeposition.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate that heterojunction photovoltaics based on hydrothermal-grown In2S3 on p-Si were fabricated and characterized in the paper. An n-type In2S3 nanoflake-based film with unique 'cross-linked network' structure was grown on the prepared p-type silicon substrate. It was found that the bandgap energy of such In2S3 film is 2.5 eV by optical absorption spectra. This unique nanostructure significantly enhances the surface area of the In2S3 films, leading to obtain lower reflectance spectra as the thickness of In2S3 film was increased. Additionally, such a nanostructure resulted in a closer spacing between the cross-linked In2S3 nanostructures and formed more direct conduction paths for electron transportation. Thus, the short-circuit current density (Jsc) was effectively improved by using a suitable thickness of In2S3. The power conversion efficiency (PCE, η) of the AZO/In2S3/textured p-Si heterojunction solar cell with 100-nm-thick In2S3 film was 2.39%.
