OBJECTIVE: To study the different mature stages and the best processing methods on the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii seeds. METHODS: The content of 3,29-dibenzoyl rarounitriol in Trichosanthes kirilowii seeds was determined by HPLC. The sample of different mature stages such as immature, near mature and fully mature and processed by different methods were studied. RESULTS: Fully mature Trichosanthes kirilowii seeds were better than the immatured, and the best processing method was dried under 60degrees C, the content of 3,29-dibenzoyl rarounitriol reached up to 131.63microlg/mL. CONCLUSION: Different processing methods and different mature stages had a significant influence on the quality of Trichosanthes kirilowii seeds.

BACKGROUND: Intravesical explosion during transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TUR-BT) is a very rare complication, and it may result in rupture of the bladder, which usually requires surgical correction and causes a potential threat to the patient's life. CASE SUMMARY: This paper reports a case of intravesical explosion during TUR-BT. Combined with the literature review, the risk factors are analyzed and measures of prevention and treatment are discussed. CONCLUSION: Although rare, intravesical explosions can cause serious consequences, and the loud explosion can also lead to a profound psychological shadow on the patient. Urologists must be aware of this potential complication. Careful operative techniques and special precautions can reduce the risk of this complication.

OBJECTIVE: To study internal quality of 14 batches Epimedium cut crude drug processed with oil, and to provide informations for quality specification in Chinese Pharmacopeia of 2010 edition. METHODS: 14 batches Epimedium cut crude drug processed with oil were investigated impurity, moisture content, total ash, acid-insoluble ash, extractum and assaying to analyze and evaluate their quality condition. RESULTS: It is suggested that, in Epimedium cut crude drug processed with oil, the moisture content should not pass 8.0%, total ash should not pass 8.0%, acid-insoluble ash should not pass 2.0%, extractum content should not lower than 12.0%, total flavonoids content should not lower than 5.0%, icariin content should not lower than 0.6%, and Baohuoside I content should not lower than 0.1%. CONCLUSION: Quality evaluation system of Epimedium cut crude drug processed with oil has been constructed initially, it will offer scientific basis for instituting quality specification in Chinese Pharmacopeia of 2010 edition.
